Man I need to stop watching your videos lmao I just did the sub and cold air intake still on the way now I'm looking in to the doors. What's next upgrade amp for sub... love this channel
Haha! That is quite the compliment!! Thank you. We may both go broke, lol. The biggest difference you will hear with the sub will be installing the audio control LC2i and amp. More power and better signal, good luck my friend! Unfortunately, I have already installed amp and line converter prior to starting the channel.
Looking for some input here guys. I purchased (4) 6x9 3-way Infinty Reference door speakers and (2) 3.5 tweeters for my 2016 Dodge Ram. A 6 speaker set up. I also sound proofed the doors. It sounded pretty good but nothing like the Alpine system my wife has in her truck. Ended up totaling my 2016 and took all the speakers out. I Purchased a 2019 ram with alpine system, sounded great, but figured I spent money on those other speakers and they were just laying around, why not put them in. So I did, the center dash speaker and sub being the only speakers in the Alpine system not replaced. I sound proofed the doors while I was at it too. Figured the new infinity’s would blow away the Alpines. Not the case. The alpines were I think 2 ohm 2-ways and the infinity’s are I think 4 ohm 3-way. It sounds clearer but almost too clear, and not as loans. The bass is overwhelming on some songs when the sound rumbles, but the mid bass doesn’t hit as hard. Almost sounds spongy. And now the surround sound mode sounds better than regular mode whereas with the stock alpines, the regular sounded better than the surround sound. I’m thinking of putting the stock alpines back in or maybe getting new 2ohm 6x9’s. Not sure what to do here. The new more expensive infinity’s were supposed to sound better and they don’t. Thoughts?
Hey Ryan! Thanks for watching and I am sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. Looking over the description in your comment, my opinion here is that it comes down to the resistance in the speakers. I specifically purchased these JBLs because they were like a 2.5 or 3 ohm something like that. I will honestly say that the Alpine system had more volume but these are definitely clearer. Now, there are also some other limitations within this setup but it is based around the truck and the way the Alpine system is tuned. I can't specifically speak for the 2019 (since it is technically a new generation) but for the 2009 -2017 (ish) generation, the front door speakers with the Alpine system DO NOT RECEIVE A FULL RANGE SIGNAL.... Repeat, they are mid-base only. In all honesty, this is why I replaced my rear doors only. Not until I get a 4 channel amp will I replace the front door speakers too.
OOPS... hit return too soon.... Ok, So back to the resistance issue. You mentioned that the bass was too loud and that the mid-bass was not loud enough....I think this is because you are having to turn it up so loud just to get the same volume and since the 3.5s and the sub has not changed, you are over working those guys. In conclusion, what I would do in this instance here is I would reinstall the Alpine system until you can find a lower resistance set of 6x9s and 3.5s. The dash speakers made the biggest difference and since they were only amplified from factory Alpine amp, I didn't have to wire in a cap for the lower frequencies. Again, a very frustrating situation but you can probably do the speaker swap with your eyes closed now!
Our Garage Auto Detail. Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, the two front doors and I think even the rear one’s don’t have a full signal. I noticed that but figured it may have been the speaker and the 3-ways would be better but they are not. I’m going to swap it all back and call it a day I think.
Ryan, that makes sense, I think you’ll probably be happier putting the factory speakers back in. As far as the rear speakers, in the research I found they were a full range signal. I actually tested the factory vs the JBL frequency response and it appeared that the JBL had higher dynamic range. That video can be found on my channel....
Swapped them all back to factory and it sounds way better. What ohm are your rear JBL’s? I can’t believe new speakers would sound so bad. Is impedance that important? Could I have just got an amp for the 4 ohm infinities or something?
Yep, you can, same size. Understand though, the signal through the front speakers is not “full range” it’s mostly midbass so you may or may not even notice a difference. Good luck!
@@Ourgarageautodetail rhino liner, Lol! I can't point fingers actually. Original plaster cracking off of clay blocks from 1924 inside mine. The garage itself is the garage find, Haha!
I would honestly say not a huge difference between the alpine. The rears door speakers are full range so the JBL did a better job pronouncing the higher frequencies but that is hard to hear in the front seat. The speakers that did make the most difference were the JBL 3-1/2” dash speakers that I did before I started the channel.
@@fdtruck125 hey there! The 6x9s in the rear doors and 3-1/2s in the dash are all running off the factory amp in the truck for the alpine system. Made a difference, pretty easy, and an affordable upgrade.
When I did mine on my 2018 power wagon that connectors I got from Crutchfield were wrong I had to repin them when I hooked all the speakers up they were at a phase
Oh man, what a frustrating experience. Sorry to hear that. I hope you were able to figure out the phasing problem and you are on your way bumping down the road!
I do not think Ram has changed the configuration of the rear speakers so installing a 2 or 3 way speaker that’s quality, should bring out more highs and fuller range.
@@Ourgarageautodetail thank you for replying. Did the new speakers make it louder? Also do you know what ohm the rear door speakers are and the dash speakers?
@@kystarnes71 so in my opinion, swapping the rear speakers did not make the system louder but better frequency response, crisper sound, and fuller range of sound. If anything, it was quieter than stock because I believe the stock speakers, front dash included, are a resistance between 2-3 ohm (closer to 2.3 ohm…) and I swapped in 3 ohm speakers so the factory amp did not have to work as hard thus making the rear output quieter…I hope that answered your questions, thanks for watching!
Hi I need your advice again. I just bought some jbl gto 939 3 ohm for my back door speakers. From what I understand the front doors are midrange and are wired differently on the rams. In your opinion are they worth changing out. I would like a better quality and sound there as well. What do u suggest on a midrange speaker or should I even bother changing them. I’m waiting to get my jbl’s and I’ll see what it sounds like when I install them to get a feel of sound. But any suggestions will help me thanks again.
Hey good morning. I understand all that to be true as well which is why I swapped the rears first. The plan for the truck is eventually a 4-channel and a separate mid and tweeter in the door since I’ll be using the PAC adapter, I would be able to get a full range sound out of the fronts then, but sadly, not before… the factory speaker should be the same that is in the rear door it’s just that the amp is only sending it a midrange signal so until the time you switch that amp powering those fronts. What you could do if you were really ambitious, swap 1 front door speaker, close the doors for the truck and just listen to the music you normally listen to and see if you can hear a difference. That way you would know if switching the fronts are even worth it. Dang it now that I had that idea, I wish I would have tried that first. I always knew I was going to add another amp and a set of 6-1/2” components one day so that is why I chose the rear doors. Whew…. That was long winded and I hope it helped.
Great vid man! Appreciate the work. I was wondering if you could recommend a speaker set for a 2018 ram with straight stock speaker. No alpine system? Thanks again
Thank you Charles! These speakers should work for NON alpine system as well. Infinity Reference REF-9632ix are on sale at Crutchfield right now and those should fit both front and rear door of 1500 crew cab... good luck and thanks for watching!

For a stock Stereo, the alpine is good if you have a good recording, Mine sounds great and goes loud with AC/DC . Not bad for Stock.
Agreed! I just needed a little more, how the French say, oomph!

Kind of, they make a 6x9 component system, with the separate tweeter but that requires a little more effort and wiring.

I would verify the number using Crutchfield.com
