oh i just did one. I couldnt sleep week before speech, i couldnt eat. And i just practiced. Recorded on video, said it over and over in front of a mirror. And when i was standing in front of 100 ppl i just started talking, because this is what I had to do. I just spoke, didnt look at the notes, messed up a bit cos still i was very nervous. Stopped. Concentrated, picked it up. Had few jokes. Looked at peoples eyes. And it was weird as if i watched myself from the side. It wasnt me at all. And people loved it. Somebody said: ive never heard you talking for so long :))) It was great experience! Just prepare and do it :)
I think every moment I spent watching this is gold. But he seriously 'woke' me up when he said that our mentality in putting conversation with others as a 'performance' which indicates there is right/wrong, - is the main reason why are we always freaking out when communicating. there is no right and wrong when communicating with human beings - and we should not always aim for the correct ways, but to ensure the person gets what we are trying to say.

Gosh I thought I was the only one... I'm studying abroad and English is not my mother language but I need to use it to present everything... I felt so bad every time I finish the presentation thinking "I ruined it again"
My problem is my shaking voice. I usually have my presentation or content well prepared but delivering the content to an audience is always a challenge. I literally sound like someone crying😪😪
I have similar issues ,I find it helpful to find places to pause the regather my breath it’s usually that I’m hyperventilating that my voice is shaking, I’ve also found if I can ask a question of the audience early also helps make it more of a conversation than a speech or a lecture.
Practicing good non-verbal techniques and room control works really well here. People see and feel your energy more than they hear it in your voice. Gesture and command space, good posture and deliberate pauses. Hand gestures, some eye contact and balancing your open body around the room works wonders more than clever words
There’s a Ted talk about the power of the voice and how confidence is rooted in the voice. One of the tips she gives is practicing singing as a hobby. Learning that sort of control of the voice and your diaphragm can really help!

Oh trust me there's a plethora of reasons. I'm the same. The cause is always childhood trauma. However you can fight your issues by learning from people like this and working really really hard for months, if not years.
Try not to memorize word to word as in the subconscious mind we have the fear of forgetting and we are more focussed on getting the words right rather than concentrating on the message that we want to deliver.

I hate myself so much after each time I talk. I have had nervousness for years!

Thank you for this amazing talk. I have a difficulty while speaking, I stutter a lot and no one understands my speech because of this, I feel so nervous when I am unable to produce normal talk. People also feel so annoyed
I understand. I tend to speak very fast and sometimes stutter, especially when I'm feeling shy or nervous. It helps to consciously slow down your speech, but it's hard to be constantly aware.
I have anti-social anxiety. If I want to manage my own anxiety, I must let it in. Let it be part of who I am so I can become brave and talk to people calmly. To express myself to others in a social situation. I will do this to be straightforward.
if you browse any recruiting website, the most demanding skills are not "hard skills" like coding, drawing or designing. It is "soft" skills like "verbal & writing communication, presentation" that have been asked in most of the job postings.
This has helped me tremendously I have so much to give I do Comedy but I just recently started doing stand up ,that is one of the most courageous things I have ever done ,thank you I will use some of these techniques great advice!
One is to find out when & where... We start to feel our anxiety and by finding out that portion which will play a major role in recovering from anxiety & mine was whenever I see a couple of people my anxiety kicks in and my words will start to break, I can't make any eye contact with audience and i think that's the major thing we all went...I hope we all overcome our anxiety 🙃
It's for me the first time to follow an English speech and so that well inspire my objective. Therefore thanks to give me the envy of discovering futher English language.
Thanks to this video... Finally i realised how i got my anxieties... I used to be a good speaker at school... And i remember once i attended specking show and... The topic which was chosen for me was new to me.. And i did terrible job front of my teachers and all the students and after that i started to minimize my conversation and started to think that maybe i can't talk front of people..maybe it’s my physical problem that can't be changed... And now when I'm in College i really want to talk front of people better but....now i know where from all of that came! Whatever i want to change now! I'm practicing a lot and i hope that i will be a good speaker again!
Thank you so match, it was useful for me, I had to do a lot of presentations and every time I was suffering from the anxiety, from now on I have a steps to do during the presentations, What I am thinking now that I will be more comfort and confidence. Thank you again.
Says a man who has an amazing presence, timbre in his voice and the ability to keep his thoughts in order. He must've had wonderful parents and close to no childhood trauma. People who never read books, have been bullied and had inappropriate parenting will have an incredibly hard time trusting themselves so they can speak well. Everyone is different and if I can speak for myself, I am not prepared to take on such an insane journey.
Bravo! I teach college students the soft skills they need to get jobs and succeed in the workplace. We cover, among other things, networking interviewing, and interacting with colleagues, bosses, subordinates, and/or the general public. I will definitely be incorporating this video into one of our first lessons of the semester. Mark Abraham offers outstanding advice on how to overcome the anxiety associated with interpersonal communication on the job or anywhere. You CAN overcome your fear of speaking, even if you decided long ago that it isn't possible. I've seen it happen over and over in the classroom in individuals who come in terrified to speak in front of others and finally win out over their anxiety. It takes willingness, determination and PRACTICE. Begin where you are, and do not give up!
When I was 12....I gave a speech in my class and everybody laughed...Now whenever I am speaking and look around to see if anybody is laughing .Even a slight smile gives me anxiety attacks
A simple way to overcome you're fear at that right moment is: to tell you're self : ''it's now or never'' and you do it. You will often not have time for remembering these steps in real life. Many people panick because something comes sudden sometimes not giving them enough time to mentaly prepare. It's only overthinking that causes you unnecassary doubt and deliberation, leading to unnecassary hessitation.
Good for Irma,It’s very very sad with some teachers can tell a child I was humiliated too as a child ,but we have choices as we get older we can learn to work against it and prove to them that they are not right

What a fantastic speech👏👏 I really resonated with the idea of reframing a speech into a conversation. I used this in a speech not too long ago without even knowing it🤣
I used to hate it when the teacher asked us to introduce ourselves in class. I have been shy since high school. It's being fluid and able to think on our feet that's key. That freezing moment and how to run to the danger and not away from it. Good advice about the anxious moments. Had blushing for years. Am much better now. Don't care too much. Dark skinned people are very fortunate in that their emotions are not written on their face. It's that moment when the adrenaline dump arrives and you feel as if in a tunnel. I feel Irma's pain. I had a 10th grade English teacher who was a real mégère. Why do we carry these unimportant moments for so long? Thanks for the advice!
0:00 Why is it important? -> in order to share your ideas effectively and efficiently with your audience you need to be calm (and there's a lot you have to say so it's worth it)
4:00 Where does the anxiety come from? -> it's a survival method from days long past - fighting for status, so it's basically in our DNA
Managing physiological symptoms:
5:35 if you are anxious, in general -> take a deep breath before you start
5:50 if you shake -> gesture broadly
6:00 if you perspire or blush -> hold something cold in your hand (not sure how this is practical though :P )
Managing cognitive symptoms -> greet your "anxiety", accept it (it's actually just energy you can perceive it as either additional energy for your talk or anxiety)
Managing sources (TL;DR - make your talk a structured conversation with your audience)
7:55 (1) "I'm afraid I'm going to forget" -> have a map, a structure like e.g. "what, so what, now what" structure
8:55 (2) We feel the audience is exercising judgment on us -> redirect attention (show a video, ask a question, etc.) (note: (2) is also solved if you exercise (3))
9:35 (3) If it feels like a performance -> reframe it as a conversation (put your attention on your audience, use conversational language (us, you, we), ask questions)
And remember it takes time and will to get out of the comfort zone.
Thank you

no matter how many of these i listen too, when I'm actually in front of the class my whole body freeze and I farts out all my knowledge at that moment
Hahahahahahaaaa
Watch out " A dialogue to kill the fear of publics peaking TEDx"
Me too i've just made a presentation and it was hooooooooooorrible hooorrible hooorrible 😑😑😑
If that's happening, simple techniques are probably not enough. But there are more powerful techniques that can work for you!
@@fathifathi8750 I'm sorry to hear that! But you can get beyond the fear, I promise. You just haven't found the right intervention. What have you tried so far?
This TED talk already makes me moved and motivated very much!!!Thanks sir for your useful speech,I will try my best to present so confidently and emotionally like you do!!!
+1
Taking a giant leap to building bold , confident and compelling conversations
Imagine having built your whole life career based on something your english teacher said. We never think before we speak and hurt others, we never care if our words have an impact on their lives and their emotions.
"Reasearch shares with us that 85% of people, feel anxious in high stake speaking situations. And quite frankly, I think the other 15% *are lying*"
Exposed
My be lying ,but have confident outside .
OMG my high school English teacher!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I was a sophomore though so we were COOL 😎 lol
Where is actually he teach at?
he's now a legend
So jealous
Shrimp Ball luck you
thank you so much for sharing such a priceless and unified ideas .
The biggest gift God had been giving you is your self confidence . Everything begins from this critical point . If you have some special features try to strength and courage yourself to do the best . Speaking of front audience isn't an embarrassing situation if you have the ability only try to destroy your fears . Try to forget your social category. Train yourself to dealing with the disorders case as you are a professional person who has the potential qualifications in the Human studies . You are the psychologist yourself nobody knows your mind more than you .
He doesn’t have shaking voice at all and that’s a great thing, also he was so humorous when he is talking about the pants part : )
I have anti-social anxiety. If I want to manage my own anxiety, I must let it in. Let it be part of who I am so I can become brave and talk to people calmly. To express myself to others in a social situation. I will do this to be straightforward.
Next week I'm starting my first job as an english teacher & I'm freaking out.
This is very helpful. Thanks a lot.
Amazing presentation. I've been suffering from anxiety since I was a kid. I'm going to try all you mentioned.
Thank you
I love this presenter. Your message perfect.
Wow one of finest speech and clearly explained..
if you browse any recruiting website, the most demanding skills are not "hard skills" like coding, drawing or designing. It is "soft" skills like "verbal & writing communication, presentation" that have been asked in most of the job postings.
His voice is really awesome!!!
This has helped me tremendously I have so much to give I do Comedy but I just recently started doing stand up ,that is one of the most courageous things I have ever done ,thank you I will use some of these techniques great advice!
Wonderful presentation. Now a days I'm trying to become a public speaker and trying speak maximum as I can.
How's the progress coming along my dude??
This topic is near and dear to my heart. Well done, sir!
This is just want I needed today. Thank you
Nice job! He mastered this speach no better than I have ever seen anyone do.
Dude I’m listening to this half an hour before a debate in class! I’m going to report on how I performed later.
You didn't 😭😭
Thanks to this video... Finally i realised how i got my anxieties... I used to be a good speaker at school... And i remember once i attended specking show and... The topic which was chosen for me was new to me.. And i did terrible job front of my teachers and all the students and after that i started to minimize my conversation and started to think that maybe i can't talk front of people..maybe it’s my physical problem that can't be changed... And now when I'm in College i really want to talk front of people better but....now i know where from all of that came! Whatever i want to change now! I'm practicing a lot and i hope that i will be a good speaker again!
After seeing this video and your advice, I can give a more powerful lecture without any anxiety.....and thank you so much.
each of us has stories to share

Thank you so match, it was useful for me, I had to do a lot of presentations and every time I was suffering from the anxiety, from now on I have a steps to do during the presentations, What I am thinking now that I will be more comfort and confidence. Thank you again.
I have the content but my legs and voice shiver while delivering
Excellently given I was so inspired on his speech
What part inspired you the most?
Surely I'll do gr8 at my speech tomorrow......hats off
i really love the way this guy talks! he is so confident and calm!
A superb presentation with a basketful of valuable kernels, personally a great refresher and honed my presentation edges. Thank you and appreciated
I hope one day I am on that stage, giving a speech.
Thanks dear sir Matt Abraham 🙏🙏🙏for most valuable public speaking skills
I cried with this... Burma ✨✨
Great speech and excellent information. Thank you for sharing
When I was 12....I gave a speech in my class and everybody laughed...Now whenever I am speaking and look around to see if anybody is laughing .Even a slight smile gives me anxiety attacks
Tomorrow i'm having an interview and it has really helped me. I was feeling really jittery but now i am feeling good.
9:18 the speaker himself is nervous, but he's managing it, it's all about managing your anxiety
So clear and soft
We all must learn this as school students, but it is never too late anyway.
Talk of the century
started conversation with his story, and emotionally connected to audience , this helps to keep focus on him
A simple way to overcome you're fear at that right moment is: to tell you're self : ''it's now or never'' and you do it.
You will often not have time for remembering these steps in real life.
Many people panick because something comes sudden sometimes not giving them enough time to mentaly prepare.
It's only overthinking that causes you unnecassary doubt and deliberation, leading to unnecassary hessitation.
Wow Thank you so much
Now I am going to prepare for my presentation
Good for Irma,It’s very very sad with some teachers can tell a child I was humiliated too as a child ,but we have choices as we get older we can learn to work against it and prove to them that they are not right
you know what my Anxiety is?
I can't even talk to a kid alone properly.
I don't know if something went wrong with me in my childhood or what...
Hello Noman. Can u tell me how old are u? I am 27 and i am like u . I have social anxiety and this issue have stole my life. How do u handle this problem? U can share with me. I am waiting for your answer
There's a lot of possibilities of what might be going on with you. I suggest working with someone who uses applied kinesiology to get to the root of the issue. :-)
@@rovshanlohuseynov388 You might benefit from working with someone who uses applied kinesiology also so you can get to the root cause of your challenges.
Sorry to know that man :'(
Awesome! I agree with Cassandra below. One of the best classes I ever took. Thanks again.
This is truly awesome....
What a fantastic speech👏👏 I really resonated with the idea of reframing a speech into a conversation. I used this in a speech not too long ago without even knowing it🤣
I will be delivering a speech tomorrow. Phew!
you are an amazing speaker! highly motivating thank you
I looked at him and i realized this ‘ Change ur heads direction every three seconds ‘
I used to hate it when the teacher asked us to introduce ourselves in class. I have been shy since high school. It's
being fluid and able to think on our feet that's key. That freezing moment and how to run to the danger and not away
from it. Good advice about the anxious moments. Had blushing for years. Am much better now. Don't care too much. Dark skinned people are very fortunate in that their emotions are not written on their face. It's that moment
when the adrenaline dump arrives and you feel as if in a tunnel. I feel Irma's pain. I had a 10th grade English teacher
who was a real mégère. Why do we carry these unimportant moments for so long? Thanks for the advice!
I GIVE THIS GUY A 10^1000000000000000000000000000000000 LIKES
We must believe in what we are saying .
I love the tip to do a question in the start! It really works !
I'm not fluent in english. I'm a south indian. For me, speaking in english makes my anxiety even more worse.
This is the most motivating speech ..so useful to me ..Thank you sir ..
Very useful recommendations! And example of absolutely controlled, targeted and calm speaching.
This is the best TedTalk that I've watched in a long time
I love this ted talk so much!! I am feeling very excited and looking forward to speaking up again with people around me. ❤️🙏
