I was the 4th person in Austria to get one! 3 months wages... worth every penny. Till a few years ago, when the MPC X blew up.
The VSTs were nothing to write home about, that's for sure. The fader layout and screen size were what had me sold on the item, the biggest screen of it's time. Now we have color screens the 2 tone blue screen on the old MPCs look retro.
Yeah man..The screen size was nice..And all the knobs and faders was a big plus..It definitely sped up the workflow.
The 5000 is very slept on I have 2 with the 2.0 upgrade super dope
Cool.
How’s the timing?
btw, I like you commentary brother! Keep at it!
no doubt playa!
There is much more to this story. On one of my channels I interviewed the man behind it and it tells the whole story of how it went from design (3500) to production model (5000) it was never meant to be the 4000 successor…
Whats up Flux!..Oh ok no doubt ima check it out.
Just got one bro and what had happened was I’m hooked!!! What’s funny is I learned on the renaissance before I went to the 5000! Together they’re dangerous but that 5000 is a monster!!
I remember trying one out in Guitar Center when they were launched. The actual timing of the thing was off. Recording a basic drum loop was tedious because it kept skipping timing. I wrote it off after that. Since then I've heard they've updated it and it's a good machine. Basically a 2500 with an internal synth.
Yeah..the update fixed alot of things.
Did jj make a os for this too?
Your laugh gets me everytime, this is quality content, thanks.
Lol Thanks fam!..I appreciate it.
You were right Dawg ... Bought the 5000 and man it's indeed a Beast !
Most underrated MPC ever.
I really like your voice, Dude. Learning about Akai MPCs. Thanks a bunch :-) ...
No doubt fam.
This was during the period when Akai was acquired by the same parent company that owns Numark. The quality went downhill. The MPD pad series, the 2500, the 5000 they were during that era. You can tell the difference in the feel of the pads. MPC2000 and 2000xl had the big squishy pads, after that they fell off for a bit. Glad to see they're coming back these days.
Yeah man.
My first MPC I ever owned. Now I have the X.
I was one of the early buyers of the 4000. If you think the 5000 had bugs....man!!!!!....the 4000 had a lot bugs that were annoying for YEARS.
good video...I ended up getting the Roland MV8800 because I saw the 5000 was not up to it's hype..I might still get one though,or the Z8...
The z8 is dope..but u still need a sequencer..I think the 5000 is a comfortable machine its all in one and the features are great even in today's times.
@@DyReckProductions that sucks that the Z8 has no sequencer..i have that covered though with some standalone sequencers
May as well find a fully blown 4k!!! Workflow is 10x better and not plastic junk
Imma be a good friend and tell you to save your money. I had the 5000 , and sold it. It’s a good machine but the Mv work flow is much faster.
@@ricardomilice2470 thanks
I fell for the hype as well. Good video
thanks fam.
I had one, it was a good mpc, just seems like the os was unfinished and it was a little sluggish when doing track/pad mutes.
Yeah when they updated the os thats when they really started to get things together.
In truth...I procrastinated like Tree Beard on the 5000, 2500, 1000, 500 and everything after. I weathered that storm 11 years until The One - which I pre-ordered cause I had to have it!!!!
No doubt Lol!
Good info here. I think a 5000 is what I'm aiming for, for my studio. Also the price of these in the UK is actually pretty good which I imagine came from people hating on it so much which is ideal for me.
If you could get one for a good price I would get it..just make sure it has the 2.0 os.
hey I'm not hating on the 5000 because at first I had wanted that myself - but as a center piece for your studio I'd save up for the MPC X it's way way better, more current features. but if you gonna cop it because of price then you lost already, take your time research a bit. Akai is a great company and has a lot of great products. I Myself have the MPC X & the Live II both excellent gear leading into the new era of music production (which is STANDALONE Mode). with that being said you also may want to look at Native Instruments - the Maschine Plus (standalone) $1300 compared to MPC Live II $1100 / MPC X $ 2G"s
again, if you love music production never base your decision on price! GOOD LUCK and let me know how you made out my youtube is Masterwise7
@Allious Unknown The 500 was meant to be a complimentary mpc to the bigger unit someone already had.. they just wanted it to be like a sketch pad if you were on a plane or on vacation somewhere you could make beats..But since the price was low alot of folks brought it and wanted to make it their main piece..I'll say one thing if you learn your way around the 500 you can get busy on any sampler.
@@DyReckProductions The 500 is dope. I really don't understand why the 500 gets so much flack. Maybe it's not the machine, it's the musician.
@@RoomAtTheTopStudio I use to think the same thing I think it comes down to sample chopping..if they made a easier way to chop up your samples I think everybody would love it.
Hey good comment sir I have the 3000 and the 5000 i remember having some bugs with the 5000 but still a good machine
Yeah man.
The underrated beast ...
I feel you.
Love these videos 🇨🇦✊🏿🔥
Thanks.
Its the Battleship of MPCs! You need a big desk or a very strong lap to use it! I kind of like the small, lap friendly MPCs (I had the MPC500) or the Live, with built in battery.
Its weird the 5000 had less features than the 4000, does'nt make sense, eh?
Thanks for telling the story. I didn’t know that the first fw was that bad. Actually this thing still lives on my desk today to my full satisfaction. I think it’s underrated though. Most other owners I talk with are not aware of all the functions it has.
Yup its very underrated..Its a beast on the low.
Great review of the mpc5000
Thanks fam.
I still love my 5K
I dont what my man talking about q-tip made 6 projects on that album lower end theory using the 5000 it was an amazing opportunity to watch him make those beats.
Got a 5000 on the way can’t wait to try out that 2.0 software
Oh ok dope!
Thank you for ALLLL the memories man. - What Had Happened Was.... Is Great Stuff.
The other thing that happened was they re-packaged the Alesis Fusion hence some of the weird quirks along with the slight marketing blunder but overall looks decent. I've only ever used the classic's 60, 3k, 2x XL but I'm feeling these and the 4000 at the prices they sell for
Yeah I think its a good sampler..And your right its very similar to the Fusion.
Nice vid. I really hate stuff like this. I always give gear a chance especially when someone rants about it and you're right this became a dope MPC. Time has proven that. Lot of cats banged this thing out and are still banging this thing out making fire. Real talk though what MPC did people not complain and whine about when it dropped? People get hype over the 2000 & 3000 but I remember those times vividly... people b*tched about those too. Hell they even used to whine about the 60 all the time. Used to come across people giving these boxes away every time something new came out. What you think guys with SP1200's did when the ASR-X came out? Folks should take a field trip and browse ye old internet to read people bashing the SP-1200 and praising the ASR-X because the alchemist used it or something. hahaha.
Yeah your right new UA-cam doesn't realize that old UA-cam was bitching about the same machines there celebrating now lol.
I think you mean the ASR 10 lol which is a phenomenal unit btw
@@DyReckProductions My favorite is people claiming now that the 2000XL has a fat and warm sound. Lmao.
@@BeefyTime1 lolol
the 5000 is an alesis fusion in an mpc box, after i got my 4000 i was interested in the 5000 but found a fusion in the meantime.researching its features i realized that other than polyphony of the synth they were the same in a different box and made by numark, the fusion is cool, but midi a fusion to,say a mpd 32,and you got it!save some money.
Wow thats interesting.. a fusion without the keyboard.
When akai and alesis were under the same roof, they did a lot of overlap between 5000 and the Fusion. It had the analog engine similar to fusion. It also had a lot of issues like the fusion did early on.
I actually preferred working with it more than the 4k
I like the 5000..I think its a good machine.
Why is that?
I had the 4K and it was a beast of a machine
I skipped the 5000. I had the opportunity to choose between that and the 2500 for around the same price range second-hand on ebay back in 2012 to replace my JJOS MPC1000 I had at the time for studio work. The thing about the MPC5000 is there was no JJOS for it, which also meant the MPC5000 lacked some of the features of the JJOS. It was also by no means better than my 4000. If there was a JJOS for the 5000 or the 5000 had more features than the MPC4000, I would've considered it. See, I made a lot of beats and programs on the JJOS2XL MPC1000 and if I had gotten the MPC5000, they wouldn't have been compatible. So for compatibility reasons, I choose a fully loaded JJOS2XL MPC2500 over the MPC5000. I'm still using that 2500 right now but I'm getting ready to convert my MPC2500 drumkits to work on the new MPC X and MPC One.
I guess you can say the MPC X is a great successor to the older MPC5000 and JJOS MPCs. As of right now, even the MPC X still lacks a few of the MPC4000's features. However, I'm hoping it will one day surpass the MPC4000 featurewise and finally become what the MPC5000 should have been. I think adding the MPC4000's modulation matrix would alleviate that issue for the most part.
Ok so there are no 96k converters on the X. That'll just be a feature that's as exclusive to the 4000 as the VGA output option is to the 3000. But with the MPC4000's sampler engine, the X would indeed surpass the 4000 overall in features.
i got 1000 but i hope one day i get to own a 2500
Great video man
Thanks fam.
Heyyyy you messed up the intro!. I didn't hear that What's up it's your boy DyReck aka Native Shades. Through me off lmfao LOLOLOL
They stopped updating, that's what happened family, I owned it
Lol.
Ya'll buggin this unit was highly slept on.After the 2.0 update this thing is as stable as anything out there.I still own one don't use it but it's still my fav.beside the 2000xl.
I feel u.
Mine didn't last long after it got stuck in a boot loop. Turns out the internal power supply failed. Lots of owners got the same problem. My 18 year old Yamaha MOTIF ES6 out lasted it that still works. The older generation MPCs were better made when it was the old AKAI. The company is run buy a different set of people. Quality ain't the same. If I had to buy another one, it would be a 3000. Rodney Jerkins still uses his 3000 still to this day although he does mostly use software.
3:40 that just blaze rant created the 2.0 update 😂😂😂😂
Yup.
The 5000 was suppose be like the current gen X....... but suffers the same fate... It's great but the 2500 is pretty satisfying. I personally like the Live ii over the X.
i'm diggin the 2500 (never tapped out on it) but the MPC X is Official tissue copped that back in 2019 - it is the leader of the new MPC generation. I also have the Live II as well
I feel you the 2500 is dope..I think it has a better sound engine than the 5000..when listening to them both it sounds like the 2500 sounds a bit better.
Feel the same about the MPC X. Not impressed. Hardly use it. Still bought the MPC One and LOVE it. It is my studio!
Still got my 5K.
cool.
I bought this from guitar center in 2011. it was cool but compared to the mv8800 at the time it paled in comparison
Yeah the MV8800 was before its time.
Never forget justblazes rant lol
Lol.
MPC 2000 (original) What had happened was.... plzzzz =))
Lol I feel u.
is it me or am I the only one wondering why homie is promoting the MPC5000 NOW !
What happen was roger line left simple ....lol
@@Dewane1511 Lol yeah alot of folks feel that way.. things changed after the 3000.
After being spoil from the Roland Mv....I didn’t like the 5000, so I sold it.
Oh ok. I feel u.
I watching all these and only have a mpd218 lol
Lol..as long as you know what your doing with it its cool..gear can get addictive lol.
@@DyReckProductions I'll work my way up to an mpc lol I wasn't about to start with that shit. Did u START making beats on an mpc?
@@Juline1221 In the late 90's I was using anything i could to make beats..I was looping on mini disc's you name it lol..but then I started using acid pro..then the mpc 500..and that open the gates to me being a gear junkie lol..I rapped to so my boys always had some gear whether its a roland 808..or an mpc.
@@DyReckProductions ok cool because when I get comfortable enough I def wanna buy an mpc or a maschine just didn't know if I should get one while still learning music production. Yes I know u never stop learning lol but idk who is insane enough to buy those and don't know shit
New mpc line seems like smart future-proof investment at last. 1k is a classic, but at 3/4 of the price of One, I'd say grab One. Cool thing is, it has ableton export, so can really focus on music and mix it later in some paid studio ( I suggest doing that as you'll learn 100x more and faster from real people working every day, than on your own).
That's last pic looks like mine but I have all black buttons
Oh ok cool.
The only thing that I went to with this one was......its synths. It was also overpriced at the time The 4000 to me was much better to me. But now with the current OS it's great, but it's too much too late
I feel you.
Just looking at the 2.0 release notes. Compared to the previous OS they added or changed 65 features and made 66 bug fixes! 😲
Yeah man..The 2.0 isn't bad.
I want a 2500 or a 1000 with jjos
I feel you.
People are still right though, the 4k is better
Lol.
Unfortunately the MPC 5000 was Akai's worst MPC ever made that had a lot of problems esp when it was first released. Now they have a known hardware failure problem with the internal power supply as mine died on me last year. Checked the forums and discovered lots of people with the same problem.
Oh wow.. I got to check that out.
Nobody can not afford this machine , just like the mpc4000,3000, the roland mv 8000 8000 that why!
Lol..I feel u.
Pawnshops. That is where I found 50 percent of my gear
@@titanjake8640 same here & the pawn shop is eBay
It goes for maximum 600 bucks over the last 5 years
It should have been the MPC 3000 MK2
Hmmm..That would have been interesting.
Who cares, i like the sound quality ot sound just like the 4000 anyway, it actually sound better than the new mpc x & se
I think the 5000 is nice..Real smooth to work with.
My opinion...there's junk and junk junk.....this is junk junk...I have a cover on it. Not using the messssssss. My 4k runs circles around it
Lol..I think the 4k is better.. but the 5k is a good sampler.
You aren't wrong. I still have my 5000 which is now a paper weight I'm about to get rid of. They have a known internal power supply failure as mine is stock in a boot loop due to failing power supply capacitors. I bought my 5000 back in 2012 and my 18 year old Yamaha Motif ES6 and 16 year old Roland Fantom XR out lived it that's still kicking. Akai's quality control has really went down hill since the release of the 5000. All the older MPCs were better made.
@@eman0828 Numark had no idea how to run the company. They should have begggged Roger Linn to Consult and help redesign the machines. Plastic and poor chip programming in my opinion. The metal casing is freaking sturdy and all good.
@@eman0828 A power supply failure?..Thats crazy.
@@DyReckProductions Yeah it's a known problem as lots of others got the same problem. Its def the worst MPC ever made that had both software and hardware issues. It was basically a half baked product when it was first released. If I ever buy another MPC it would probably be a 3000 but nowadays everyone is sequencing in the DAW.
They didn't help themselves by releasing it so full of bugs.
yeah the first os sucked.
LOL this was nothing more but a MPC 2500 with a stripped down version of JJOS there's no way this is better than a 4000 . My MPC 3000 would smoke in a one on one without it even being plugged in .
Lol.
@@DyReckProductions Facts FAM
pls use antipop
Lol.
like the video, BUT !.... how can you talk about the 5000 when the MPC X is the NEW kid on the block who took over. NOW with that being said maybe the 5000is top dog in it's class I think you are about 7 years to late since the 5000 came out in 2009/2010 we are in 2021 & the MPC X has been here for at least the last 4/5 years.
I think you might have missed the point of the video. It is not a review of the MPC5000. It is a look back at the history of it, and what went wrong with it. We are roughly 13 past its release, so it is interesting to look back and see what happened.
Perhaps 🤔 it’s all good
@@masterwise7 Yeah fam..just taking a trip through memory lane thats all.
I think this is a nostalgic trip to talk about old samplers back in their hayday. To be honest it's kind of cool because not every cat is in to the new MPC's. Lot of people chasing after the older ones for the work flow. They get em' but don't really know the history.
@@187onasimp True.
Hear me out, i think people didnt rock with it cause its ugly, really bad looking design.
LOL
Why does MPC have so many problems
Lol. Mpc's have a crazy history.
MPC 2000 "classic" was the last great traditional MPC, ever! Which is a multi channel MIDI sequencer and drum sampler. If you couldnt make music on that, you werent s&^%! XL was just an ugly version of the 2000. 4000 to that bs 5000 were MPC workstation missteps. Total failures!!!!!!!!! Akai got the whole MPC workstation right when they released the Live/Live II/One/X. End of story.
Damn, u be everywhere Im at 😂😂😂😂
What's your FB page?
Do you work for Akai?? I would like to know what happened to JJ and why he was not full time staff lol
What about the 1000 and 2500??
