Nah, Teddy Riley already had the daddy for the mpc3000 which was the MPC 60. Teddy didn't skimp on new equipment. He was the first producer in New York State to score the MPC60. 90% of his hits came from it. He would also be able to afford many MPC3000s when it came out. Maybe he borrowed QTIPs Machine when he didn't have his on him, but it is hard to see him throwing away his old MPC60. It swings even better than the 3000 and bangs even more with 12 bit grit. Teddy had an SP12 or 12000 I believe. I have both the 3000 and the 60, but I prefer the mpc60 with the new MPC3000 software upgrade for hard swinging dirty crusty hip hip. .The MPC 3000 itself still does my the bulk of my work though. It is better for long samples , clarity and deep basses with it's filter. The mpc60 can still sound clean depending on what and how you sample. . Both great machines.

Not knocking those who love the SP but I just couldn’t wrap my mind around why it was considered by some on par or better than the 3K and the 60 or 60II back then when it’s obviously not but to each it’s own 🤷🏾‍♂️

Don’t forget the legendary rack mount entries, like the S950, S2800 and the EMU Emax. Of course they didn’t have the coveted sequencer but what an amazing combo with the 3000 sequencer. Roger Linn lifted the curtain on his secret groove sauce a little while back:
"My implementation of swing has always been very simple: I merely delay
the second 16th note within each 8th note. In other words, I delay all
    the even-numbered 16th notes within the beat (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) In my
products I describe the swing amount in terms of the ratio of time
duration between the first and second 16th notes within each 8th note.
For example, 50% is no swing, meaning that both 16th notes within each
8th note are given equal timing. And 66% means perfect
swing, meaning that the first 16th note of each pair gets 2/3 of the
time, and the second 16th note gets 1/3, so the second 16th note falls
on a perfect 8th note triplet. The fun comes in the in-between settings.
For example, a 90 BPM swing groove will feel at 62% than
at a perfect swing setting of 66%. And for straight 16th-note beats (no
swing), a swing setting of 54% will loosen up the feel without it
sounding like swing. Between 50% and around 70% are lots of wonderful
little settings that, for a particular beat and tempo, can change a
rigid beat into something that . "

  • @unc1589
    @unc1589 2 роки тому +4

The 3k timing was just different. Don’t believe the “myth” lie. What people don’t realize is that “swing” is not just about timing but also velocity. Roger did something in that unit…. It’s subtle but noticeable. You could turn the swing off and loop a straight Billie Jean drum intro groove and the magic still happens. It’s the 3k. Everybody knew this. Radio ready out the box.

You can make any MPC sound warm and grimey it what you put in it. With that said in my opinion I think the MPC X is the best MPC created. It has tons of features and chopping a sample is so easy with a few different ways of chopping. Also you can mix and master right in the MPC. You can use as a standalone or if you daw person you can hook it up to a PC. So and what happened was with mpc 3000 is time's changed and it's still over priced on Ebay

Can you address specifically the MPC3000LE that came out in 2000? There has always been a big rumor in the MPC community that AKAI made only 2000 international units for the year of 2000. AKAI made commemorative number plates for each MPC3000LE supposedly numbered #0001 - #2000. I personally haven’t seen any LE’s numbered higher than 1400. Dilla’s MPC3000LE was #0449 and I have #0538.
Nonetheless, another great video! Cheers from England! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I'm going to look into this very soon but as of right now: Don't tha SP1200 do tha same thing, if not more ? Again, I am gong to look into this but once you put tha sounds into either one of these machines, it's tha buttons and faders that make all of tha magic happen ( AFTER ) you run sounds through these machines, right.
Plus I always wondered why I never really heard a kick and a snare by itself, it was stolen / sampled, lol.

Sounds like it's an instrument. Price should be whatever... guitarists expend more for a guitar or amplifier so if you like it, just save for it and go for it. That's it. Thanks for the video I have heard lots of love for the 3000 and 60 but never touched one so I can't say nothing more. :)

I owned the Akai MPC 3000 LE. It had a sturdy built and swallow menus. It also had a slightly darker sound for a 16 bit sampler. However it also lacked a lot of features like time stretch pitch shift and wave editing. I just don’t see why people are paying $6000 for 30 year old technology.
Only reason I think people are paying so much for these old pieces of gear is because of famous producer used them and for some reason they think they can be like J dilla or whoever.
Can could never be like anybody but yourself and buying the same gear as your favorite producer won’t change that.
Older gear is the more tedious to use and new gear has better workflow.

I hear you..Most people love the 3000 for the sound..Alot of the new stuff even though there good..Sometimes cant give you the punchiness or artifacts the old stuff can give and on some tracks it makes a difference.

Idk...I tried the 3000...I Stayed with the 2000xl... until the 4000 came out...it was all love... Payed the 4000 and 1 dollars...the filters on 3000 as good as the XL but the 4000 timing is better no opinion.
sample play back punchy...I A and B both...I like the 3000 because of the filters but its my opinion that the 4000 just feels more refined minus the filters having noise at the floor a lot quicker...but the XL filters are best from it's base...idk WHY...it just IS.
