My skin is sensitive but pretty good. My first product used ever was the Neutrogena one. I saw results in the smoothness and firmness of my skin pretty quickly. I still have that one but am trying Olay Max 24 and the non- max one. They seem really great too I'd say try it.They work. Pores are smaller....sure a little flakiness in the beginning but not bad and that passes. Definitely worth it.
I’m now using Altreno and seeing amazing results. However I did start out with the L’Oréal gray jar you recommended about a year ago. Your channel is where I got started and learned everything about my skin care. All the products have been great recommendations. Thank you 🙏
Hi dear, can you please let me Know what cleanser moisturizer and sunscreen you use with Altreno. I was prescribed it and am almost giving up due to breakouts and no results.
This comprehensive explanation is really what people need to listen in order to start using retinoid. I've been using 0.1 % tretinoin and I'm grateful that I can tolerate it. Since I'm acne prone, prescription retinoids are not a big problem. In my country, it's cheaper getting prescription strength retinoid than getting OTC Retinoid. Otc products are way too expensive. So I decided to start my journey with tretinoin and I've committed to use it forever. Alongside with sunscreen and moisturizer, I've achieved my healthy youthful skin. But for those of you who can not access Prescription stuff, just use OTC retinoid, especially if you just want to pursue anti aging benefit.
Same here. I've been using the 0.1% tretinoin for months without any side effects at all, and it's a lot cheaper than otc retinols. Otc retinols are usually above $7, while tretinoin creams are around $2-$4 in my country, depending on the concentration.
I definitely agree! I used OTC retinols for maybe 2 years and didn’t noticed that much of a difference, however I had no irritation with it. My pocket was also hurting from the OTC prices. Started tretinoin 8wks ago and already notice a big difference in my acne but am dealing with some mild dryness. However, I paid $4 for tretinoin which will last me probably 6 months, so nothing can beat that
@@lisk3822 but you have to remember that most of us who are living outside US is not lucky enough to get high quality evidence based cosmeceutical products. US based cosmetics are way way way too expensive and very cost prohibitive here. So of course prescription stuff that is very2x affordable is such a bless for us. For example, here in my country, azelaic acid in any concentration is considered a drug, unlike in the US which you can find in 10 % concentration. And things like benzoyl peroxide here is considered a limited drugs, which means that if you wanna use that, you have to go to a pharmacy and obtain that, unlike in the US, which you can find in Costco, Target, and walmart.
I think a person's age at baseline will make a difference too. While I had used tretinoin off and on over about 20 years, I did not get serious and use it almost daily until 2019. I am just now beginning to see some softening of wrinkles...BUT, I am now 75. When I was a child in SoCal, sunscreen did not screen anything, so I played outside everyday, got visible light, UVA, UVB exposure for at least 30 years before sunscreens began to have even SPF 15. Someone who begins a retinol at age 25-30 will probably see improvements to photo damage and wrinkles, because they are not as bad in the first place, their skin is also already functioning better, and turning over more quickly. I think our expectations have to be tempered by what condition our skin is in at baseline.
This video exemplifies what I like about you. Everything you say is scientific, backed up by studies. I love that I can go to the studies and see what the results are. I'm retired but have a scientific degree and understand that studies have to be designed properly and that sampling is all important. I've been using retinol for about seven months and just started on tretinoin yesterday, so I can't say if there's any difference. I did see results with retinol and I use Vitamin C serum in the morning. Sunscreen every single day. When I picked up the tretinoin the pharmacist told me about using sunscreen and I told her I had it on at that time. She got a big kick out of that as it was snowing. My light skinned husband has has two minor skin cancers removed, I have a Mediterranean complexion but I'm taking no chances. Thank you again for your clear, concise, informative videos. I send links to them to all my friends and family.
I have been using Tretinion for about four years. I use Curology. And it isn’t that expensive. However I cannot use it on my neck. I’ve tried numerous times. And I just itch the next day. So I’m going to look into one of the things you mentioned. My hands are dry, but don’t show my age, yet. So I need whatever I use on my neck for my hands. I have so many products I’ve tried. I did order some Versed. But it hasn’t arrived yet. I think I ordered the body lotion. But it’s been a while so I’m not sure. I also ordered some No. 7 ceramides & peptides capsules to try. Those haven’t arrived yet either. I’m not sure how they will work. But I thought I would give it a try. I love your videos. They always have so much information in them. And with you being a dermatologist I trust what you say.
Wow , I think this is actually my favorite video ! So well researched, so clear. I love person that back their facts with real study. Thank you for your incredible work and giving to us all that knowledge :D
Love Avene Retrinal .1 cream! Had to slowly work up to this strength, but have had zero problems dooms ot that way. Do not even need a moisturizer after applying it.
I can't speak directly to the anti aging part as I honestly don't struggle with that yet, but as far as texture and acne goes, Tretinoin was far above OTC products for me. My skin was never as smooth and I still got clogged pores/blackheads on my nose that were RELENTLESS. After being on tret for just 6 months those problems are all completely gone, compared to being on OTC retinoids or differin for years.
So helpful! I have been on prescription tretinoin for a year now and the peeling, burning and discomfort are horrible and embarrassing. I just can’t tolerate it anymore. I don’t have sensitive skin, but despite being consistent I have not been able to maintain this routine without severe side effects. So glad to try these products and I appreciate your advice so much.
I'm 34, been using retinol and retinaldehyde for 14 months and all I have are 3 very small and shallow creases on my forehead. I have to frown really hard to make them visible. I know 18 year olds who have more lines than I do. I used: Olay 24 Serum Neutrogena Cellular Boost Concentrate Avene RetrinAL Intense 0.1
In my experience with about a year (19-20) of the ordinary 1% granactive retinoid I couldn't notice too muchq change but once I started Tretinoin 0.05% almost a year (21-22) ago I noticed major changes after 3ms of using it.
@@TheBudgetDermatologist Hi doc, Im about start using Retin-A for ageing skin issues. Ive read its best for fine lines, wrinkles & age spots. Could I possibly see improvements in festooning? Thanks
I used OTC retinol for 12 years before trying tret and on my skin at least, they do about the same thing, except tret just works a bit more quickly. Unfortunately, tretinoin, even at 0.018 %, seems to increase the redness in my skin more than do the OTC options. I was never able to get my neck to tolerate tret, so I just use a 0.01 % retinaldehyde product there, and I've been thinking about taking a break from my tretinoin and trying a stronger retinaldehyde product on the rest of my face to see if I get less redness that way.
The information here is so helpful. I have seen products on the market for years with a tiny amount of retinol in them and thought they would never work. However, after two attempts with Retin-A, which resulted in redness, a ton of peeling and no help with acne, I have decided to go forward with some over the counter retinol. Consistency is the right approach. We'll see what happens after 3 months.
@@doloresmedina7176 So 2 months in and it began with light peeling then breakouts. I looked bad for about 3 weeks but much better right now. I think by June my face will smooth out and pores will be emptied. The Adapolene is a good choice because it's gentle.
How does adapeline measure up to the retinols you mentioned for over the counter use . I’m 50 have combo skin and am fairly happy with the results… I just want to make sure I’m using something that is most beneficial. Love your channel I tell everyone about it🥰
I’ve been using Curology for 2 years and I’ve never been able to tolerate daily use. In fact they keep having to lower the dose because I get terrible peeling and stinging. I’m all the way down to 0.016% and still can’t use it daily. I am going to cancel and get one of the OTC options instead. Thank you so much for this Doc, you are awesome 👏
I tried Curology Tretinoin as well and couldn’t tolerate it. Instead I now use Paula’s Choice Salicylic acid (in the dark gray bottle) twice a day and LOVE it. I get the same exfoliation that I did with Tretinoin 0.025% without the irritation. My skin texture is like glass & my hyperpigmentation is almost gone after 3 months 👍🏼
@@amyk6028 that’s good to know! I used Paula’s Choice years ago (before Paula sold her company) and her products are great. I met her in Scottsdale when she gave a talk on SPF and she signed her book for me, she’s an awesome lady. Thanks for the idea, I will definitely try the PC salicylic acid 🙌🏻
Just try to be patient. I‘m using a similar service to get my tret. They started me with 0.0125. It took me three months to finally be able to tolerate daily use together with tons of soothing and moisturizing steps both in my morning and evening routine. They now put me on 0.025. Haven‘t started yet, but will definitely go back to starting with 3 times a week and building up to not destroy my skin barrier again. I guess some of us are just more sensitive.
Thank you so much for this in-depth explanation! I have been using Curology. I’m at 0.35% and even though I’ve been using it for over a year it still rips my face apart (red, irritated, flaking) and my skin can’t tolerate it more than a few times per week. I’m going to give the Avene a try. I also use the La Roche Posay Double Repair Moisturizer and also use the spf version during the day and I LOVE both formulas. Thank you so much for your recommendations!
Same here, my skin is waaaaaaay too sensitive for prescription-strength products. But 'little and often works better for me with OTC options. Thank you Dr - once again, you provide the best "skincare for dummies" guide.. And I really appreciate that you offer budget friendly options.. (-:
My derm doc says he sees more people with skin irritation from using Curology. I experienced irritation as well, but I ended up using it on sun spots and it worked great to lighten those.
Honestly i keep going back to ROC. It’s the only one I can visibly notice the difference. I hate that it has so much fragrance in it though. But my skin seems to tolerate it fine.
Years ago I was prescribed Retin A for a skin condition (not anti aging). Initially I loved it because it cleared up my complexion and made my skin super smooth. Months later, it made my skin incredibly dry no matter what moisturizer I applied on top and very irritated to boot. It's a drug and it has side effects! I also used Differin for a while when it went OTC, but it hit a plateau and wasn't working well. I also got tired of having to buy separate treatments /serums/moisturizers. Fortunately I came across this channel! I've been using the Olay Max and while it hasn't been enough time yet to see the full effects, I really like it. It's moisturizing and doesn't irritate my skin at all.
This care application has been on my radar for a while. I'm going to start this weekend with Maelove Moonlight. That serum checks the high-bar quality boxes and also priced reasonable, affordable for the masses and long term care.
This is very interesting but since here in my country it’s kind of cheaper to get tret than most OTC Retinols (the good quality ones at least) I just rather use it 🤷🏻♂️
I live in Australia where it's free to see a doctor and the price of Tretinoin is about the same price as a number of OTC retinoids. I'm currently using a compounded prescription of Tret that also contains niacinamide and hyaluronic acid which also means I don't have to purchase a separate HA/VB3 product- so the prescription option becomes the most affordable option overall. I patiently worked on repairing my dry, sensitive skin barrier before I added a retinoid and when I did, I added it into my routine slowly. Initially I had a tiny bit of flaking around the corners of my mouth but otherwise my skin tolerated it well. I do use Avene Physiolift Eyes (the closest thing we have to RetiAL Eyes) for the sensitive eye area and Versed body retinol- which per mL is about 25% cheaper than Paula's Choice option. Thank you for this video, even though I don't use OTC options, it's good to see that you mention factors like price and accessibility as things to consider when making your decision.
@@quinnpark8257 If The Agency skincare is available in your area, you could try that as well. Their business provides a doctor to prescribe a formula based on your needs from the comfort of your home.
I used a reputable cosmetic brand's Retinal Serum (no percentage noted on package) nightly on my face for three weeks and experienced 3 months of major irritation. Once that cleared up and having watched a Budget Dermatologist video, I switched to Avene .05 on a two-time a week schedule to an every other day schedule for one month and had no reaction to it, though I did not notice any appreciable improvement in skin tone or wrinkle reduction. I then added Avene .1 intensive cream, alternating it with Avene .05 on an every other day schedule. It's now been eight months and I am almost exclusively using Avene .1. I could not be happier. Facial skin is smooth and silky and 68 yrs of wrinkling is fading. I love it and will gladly purchase a retinal body cream upon Dr. Locke's recommendations. PS- I also use Vichy 89 serum in the morning upon her recommendations and recommend this product too!
Thank you so much for your advice. I love them. The products you advised for the body are not avaible in Portugal (Europe). Could you point another choice? Thank you.
Thanks for looking at the science, taking the time to find, read, and evaluate the studies. You have the education to do this. I don’t,and am often a sucker for marketing, and not science.
I have used Differin for 7 months. I see a difference in my 64 year old skin. Should I start with Tretinoin now or stay with Differin for a while longer? Will the Tretinoin show more improvement than Differin? I love your channel! Thank you for all the advice you give to help us with our aging skin!😊
I was given prescription tretinoin, used it for a year and still got dry patches on my cheeks, used max 3 times a week. Then I wanted to try Differin, it's been two months and I see good results and no irritation so far. It really depends on your skin, I am sticking with Differin for a while.
@@ausmat25 I've been using tretinoin for 10 months and still extremely dry and flaky. I've buffered it and moisturize afterwords. Also use hydrating toners to try to help. Maybe I should try differin.
I'm curious of your opinion of Adapalene and how you think it compares to over the counter retinol? I've been using differen for about a year now, and my skin has never looked so good! I don't have significant acne, so i started using it in place of retinol due to some of what I had read. I would really love to hear your perspective as a dermatologist!
Wonderful video about Retinoids. A long while ago my Derm Dr. friend (I'm not her patient) threw me a tube of Tretinoin .05% for my face. Had no problems with it at all. She said I don't need it but "what the hell". I want to start early preventing lines and wrinkles.. But then my sensitive neck.....OMG. So she told me to start with moisturizer first, then she gave me a Retinol and that worked great to put on top of the moisturizer. Did that for a couple of months and then she turned me onto the Mae Love Moonlight Retinaldehyde for my neck and she told me to put it all the way down to my "Ta Tas" lol. Everything is working great with Vit C and sunscreen in the morning and the Retinoids at night. Thank you for a great video!
Thank you for a very good, informative video. I am currently using the Cerave retinol resurfacing lotion on my face and ii feels comfortable and is slowly having a positive effect on my skin.
I started watching your videos 2 months ago and was excited to start a routine. However I just became overwhelmed as more products are introduced in videos. I am happy to see today's recommendations are consistent with past recommendations as I keep thinking " maybe I should"'ve tried this instead after purchasing previous rcommendations. Based on today's video, I am now confident that I am ready to start my retonoid journey with a finalized list! I would like to mention I have flaky skin and just incorporating the L'oreal revitalift triple power lzr instead of a physical exfoliater, the results have been amazing for me in a short time period and I have also Ben using the avene eye cream for over a month and can very clearly see a difference in under eyes and crows feet. I am so happy I found you on you tube!
I was in same position but i started with a minimal skin care mornings gentle cleanser, Hyluronic Acid Serum, Moisturizer and Spf before makeup and on evening Makeup removing , gentle Cleanser , Retinol , Caffeine for under eye from Ordinary and evening moisturizer, once or to per week also a peeling cleanser. My skin started to be super puffy and elastic. I have dry skin and in winter i had problems with super drying patches that peeled themselves. Of course you have to understand your type of skin and the problems that you really want to improve with your routine. Good luck
I have been using the maelove midnight retinaldehyde serum and have seen great results. It’s very gentle on the skin. I also love the stratia retinal cream on my neck and hands which is super moisturizing. This video was very informative. Thank you so much!
I like the Neutrogena retinol oil. Is that a good one too? Have a blessed day. I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for the advice. I'll be 50 years old. I need it!
So I have super sensitive rosacea skin and I chose to go with agency but instead of following their orders I am doing 0.05% tretenoin every 4th day for now. I cleanse with vanicream cleanser add a layer of vanicream daily moisturizer then wait 20 min then carefully pat in a pea size amount and amazing to me I had no reaction. But then I got brave the other night and wanted to try their cloud moisturizer and I had a reaction. Went back to my tried and true vanicream and did fine. 🤷♀️ I will be attempting to try working in the dark spot formula later this week on non future formula nights to see how I do with it, but I doubt I will allow it to be put on my cheeks
I have been using Curology for about 8 months. Haven't noticed any real change compared to the 2 years I used retinols. I am able to tolerate the Curology every night...so run out before my next shipment. I am cancelling and going back to retinols. Thank you for the great information.
After trying retinol and retinaldehyde and 0.05 Tretinoin my choice hands down is Tretinoin. It did take me months for my skin to get used to it but it has also offered visible results that I never saw with OTC products. Cost wise prescription Tretinoin 45 gram tube of 0.05 costs me $70.00 and lasts three months. Avene retinaldehyde costs about the same for less product and zero visible results.
Do you use it around eyes too? Ive been on tretinoin for 6 months with good results but eye area doesnt seem to tolerate it well (rest of the face is fine). So I dont use it around eyes. Which sucks becaue I want to target crows feet the most and my skin everywwere else but eye area actually looks good. I use tretinoin 3 times per week. So I was thinking of using retinol/retinal for eye area during "off days". Or would it be better to use tretinoin for eyes as well and work up slowly until eye are tolerates it as well?
@@Marko-ij4vy yes. I initially I diluted it with moisturizer- alot. It took over a year, maybe two before I could reduce the amount of moisturizer I was diluting with. I still dilute it around my eyes but less so than in the beginning. I should add I can use Tretinoin on my neck and chest, most people can't. You may want to use the Avene Retinal eye cream to start. I used that for a while.
@@IONPortraits if Avene is working for you that's great. It's definitely less drying than Tretinoin and has a lovel feel when you apply it. Avene (retinaldehyde) had no visible results for me, retinol either.
Great införmation, and I love that the studies are linked. I've been looking for a gentler retinol for around my eyes so I really appreciate the Avene recommendation. Thank you!
My using Differin gel that you recommended I used it when I was in my 20’s and forgot about it and moved on to prescription ones and I got tried of my face peeling all the time so I stopped using it. But far I love the Differin gel and I got Neutrogena for my neck and hands love it to . I do have a two severe line wrinkles on my forehead would Botox get rid of them?
I am 56 & subscribe to Skin & Me (similar to Curology). I’m on 0.3% Tretinoin 4% Azelaic Acid & 4% Niacinimide - been on this for 6 months. I don’t get irritation. The Tretinoin goes up very gradually over a period of several months. It’s working for me.
This was an informative video; only downside was it did not discuss the flip side of things; there are also as many randomized clinical trials that showed over the counter retinol products do not have a statistically significant benefit.
@@mayamorabito1669 I haven’t compared it because Differin has worked so well at clearing my hyperpigmentation and smoothing my skin. Also, I was worried about Tret because my skin’s very sensitive and I’d rather go gentler and slower with vitamin A/retinoids.
Thank you for such informative and thoroughly explained videos! I’m at 1% Tretinoin and after a year still trying not to peel like a snake. Although it may be the 2% BHA exfoliant I’m using. Off topic but I’m wondering if you have a product recommendation for acne scars? Or please link a video if you have one on this topic. Thanks so much!
Very good to hear Retinol is a good product. I have very sensitive skin & could not tolerate anything stronger .. even now I have to skip some nights. I have used a couple of your recommendations.
You saved my skin ☺️ I am so grateful to you Mam🙏, I have always been so frustrated about why my skin is getting acnes and rashes!! Then I have found your videos where you have explained how we can take good care of our skin twice a day in the morning and night. My skin gets very dry during winter and from your recommendation, I bought the right products that I needed for my skin long ago. I don't have any more acnes or rashes, my skin can now breathe well. Thank you a lot ❤️🤗
This was excellent information. Given what you have shared, then why do Dermatologists advance patients from a lower strength to a higher strength retinoid? It makes no sense to do that unless there was some advantage to higher strength retinoids.
Hello Dr. Locke, first I want to say thank you so much for all of your advice, your videos are very informative and that's what I needed. Unfortunately, I am new to the skincare world but I should have taken an interest years ago. I do have mature skin but, I am using the Cerave Skin Renewing Retinol Serum three times a week to build a tolerance. You had mentioned that was better for wrinkles and lines as opposed to the other Cerave Retinol that's for more acne-prone where that is not my trouble. But I have two questions. 1. What do you think about the Glycolic-Retinol mixture that Dermatologists have been talking about lately? Dermatologists say it does work well together but, how would you use those products individually but together so it can work. Peter Thomas Roth makes a Glycolic Retinol serum and I was wondering if that is a good product? Also, what do you recommend for my neck retinol? I want something that will last like body retinol because the serum goes too fast to put on the neck. Thank you any help would greatly be appreciated.
Peter Thomas Roth products are EXCELLENT. They actually do work, I’ve used them for 5+ years. That said I used the glycolic retinol pads recently and felt like they dried me out bad, but I didn’t try the serum I believe that’s much less drying. You can try it they have a nice return policy.
If you’re looking for retinol for lines/wrinkles that’s not too drying and actually works I love Roc line smoothing capsules. They will not dry you out and they smooth lines quite well
Thank you for this in-depth explanation of retinol products. I can’t afford Paula’s Choice right now and I am relying on less expensive solutions. Your videos are helping me make good choices. I am currently using a serum from Dermelect.
Hi, I loved your video, it was so informative. I was wondering if you can purchase avene retinal in any cvs or walgreen's or do you have to only buy it on line, also I have been using the naturium skin line lately which combines retinol with bakuchiol, what are your thoughts about this, thankyou so much🙂
Thank you, thank you. This is the clarity I needed about what to do after using Differn for three months and seeing awesome results I decided to move up to Trentinoin next week, but with the information from you today Avene will be my next step in my anti aging skin care. I feel blessed to have found yor U tube channel. Again thank you.
I've been using La Roche Posay retinol for a year and it's definitely made a change with crows feet but not so much the lines around upper lip- I use the eye product around the mouth, and then the regular one on the rest of my face. I imagine if I had started using these years ago it would have been more effective. I would recommend it for any young women right from the beginning. When I was young we didn't even think of things like this :(
I am 54, this year. The past two years I’ve noticed my skin becoming pouchy, puffy, and old looking. I’ve always used moisturizer, but I don’t believe it’s working anymore. Can you do a video to help those of us who are in the middle of menopause and dealing with messy skin and feeling old.? I want to know how to cleanse, moisturizer, deal with breakouts, wrinkles, and firming. would appreciate it.
Dr. Locke had several great videos for getting both night time and morning routine started for anti aging. Just look through her playlist. You may want to watch some of the videos several times to start to learn the lingo. I'm also 54. I was guessing about what to do for my skin until I came across Dr Locke. Now I feel almost like an expert.
Interesting video. Less expensive to get a tretinoin prescription from Curology with additional age fighting ingredients such as niacinamide and azelaic acid at no additional cost.
I have used both OTC Retinol and Tretinoin. I started with 1% Retinol for 6 months then upgraded with .1% Tretinoin. OTC Retinol was less irritating however the brand I was using consisted of Retinol plus AHA and was around 100$. With Tretinoin 0.1% I had a nightmarish experience for almost a year before my skin started tolerating it. Its been almost 3 years now and my personal opinion ? Nothing beats Tretinoin. Yes you definitely get some results with OTC Retinol no one is disputing that but compare to Tretinoin its nothing. I use Tretinoin all over my face, neck, décolletage and my hands. I am 46 and my skin is better than what it was in my early 30s. As they say you always get what you pay for.
Thanks for this comprehensive video. I have been faithfully using the products from the ordinary. I am pretty happy with them, the retinol 1% and the vitamin C with alpha arbutin. Would you be willing to give us your thoughts on that?
For anti-aging, also remember sunscreen the next morning to help maintain/protect your retinol investment.
Yeah I'm surprised she didn't address this.

This video took me FOREVER!! So thank you for appreciating that haha! :)
My FAVORITE Retinol cream is ROC. I've gotten huge results around my eyes & forehead!! I'm surprised you didn't mention this product.

This is one of the main subjects at the top of my long list for anti aging topicals, but you sum it up very well. Thank you so much ❤
you are welcome! this is such an important part of the anti aging skincare routine
Right, absolutely, very imporatant. I place high value on substance, honesty. She's ao profesional, A+.
Hi Dr. Where do you rank The Ordinary Retinol Emulsion?
Love Avene Retrinal .1 cream! Had to slowly work up to this strength, but have had zero problems dooms ot that way. Do not even need a moisturizer after applying it.
Evidence based practice on UA-cam! Wow! Thanks for posting an informative video and explaining it so well.
I used:
Olay 24 Serum
Neutrogena Cellular Boost Concentrate
Avene RetrinAL Intense 0.1
In my experience with about a year (19-20) of the ordinary 1% granactive retinoid I couldn't notice too muchq change but once I started Tretinoin 0.05% almost a year (21-22) ago I noticed major changes after 3ms of using it.
thanks for sharing this experience!
Is the same as retinol different name
@@TheBudgetDermatologist Hi doc, Im about start using Retin-A for ageing skin issues. Ive read its best for fine lines, wrinkles & age spots. Could I possibly see improvements in festooning? Thanks
I've been using the Neutrogena retinal serum 0.5%, then I use the Olay Retinal 24 moisturizer on top. I feel like it works pretty good 👍
Love your videos! Very knowledgeable! What are the best sites to order avene retrinal in Canada? Thanks.
You’re the best at providing explanations and recommendations. Thank you for your help!
Again, I LOVE how you break down research for average consumers! Thank you so so much!!!!
Keep us updated !!
It just needs to have at least .25 retinol to convert to tretinoin.
@@doloresmedina7176 So 2 months in and it began with light peeling then breakouts. I looked bad for about 3 weeks but much better right now. I think by June my face will smooth out and pores will be emptied. The Adapolene is a good choice because it's gentle.
@@lisk3822 Hey good to hear !!👍Sounds like you’re getting good results. You do have to be patient and consistent ; but you know that already 🙂👍
I have heard it all concerning retinoids. I really liked the way you put this video together!
I was having issues and I ended up using moisturizer>tret>wait 10-20 mins>petrolatum over night and it fixed all the problems for me.
@@amyk6028 good evening how are you doing, how’s the pandemic situation over there in your country?
@@MartinaMcDonagh good evening how are you doing, how’s the pandemic situation over there in your country?
My derm doc says he sees more people with skin irritation from using Curology. I experienced irritation as well, but I ended up using it on sun spots and it worked great to lighten those.
@@mslaurateague bruh noooo I just ordered from curology 😭 nothing happened to my skin with retinol so I’m hoping I’m okay
Honestly i keep going back to ROC. It’s the only one I can visibly notice the difference. I hate that it has so much fragrance in it though. But my skin seems to tolerate it fine.
this is the most potent otc......you actually FEEL something.
OTC Differen is only .1% Rx is .3%.
This care application has been on my radar for a while. I'm going to start this weekend with Maelove Moonlight. That serum checks the high-bar quality boxes and also priced reasonable, affordable for the masses and long term care.
Thank u for expanding how to use product u are the only one who expand this😘
This is very interesting but since here in my country it’s kind of cheaper to get tret than most OTC Retinols (the good quality ones at least) I just rather use it 🤷🏻♂️
I live in Australia where it's free to see a doctor and the price of Tretinoin is about the same price as a number of OTC retinoids.
Thank you for this video, even though I don't use OTC options, it's good to see that you mention factors like price and accessibility as things to consider when making your decision.
out of curiosity, if one also wanted this tretinoin prescription what should one ask for? asking for a friend 😁
@@quinnpark8257 ask your doctor for Tretinoin, or Retin-A (brand name).

Have any studies demonstrated differences among the various percentages of retinol?
Ur videos are so well made and super clear with lots of scientific info! Thank you!!
Amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing your detailed experience.
Always love your videos. One of my favourite derms to follow. Thank you.
What one is the best for older women face Products is it elf or avenue Neutrogena what is a better product for people with older skincare
You mention mostly aging, but what about acne? Are retinols as effective as something like differin for acne?
I went from Differin to Tretinoin with no problem! I'm 62.
@@kristymiller4634 I use Neutrogena Hydro boost after my retinol dries. My face is still soft the next morning!
Awesome. Thank you for sharing!!

Thank you for your in depth and meticulous explanations. Much appreciated 🙏🏻
You are so welcome!
i am 64 yrs of age. is this netrogena suitable for this age range?
I use the geek & gorgeous a-game 10 retinal and love it! I wish it was more accessible in the US though!
Thank you for sharing!!
This was an informative video; only downside was it did not discuss the flip side of things; there are also as many randomized clinical trials that showed over the counter retinol products do not have a statistically significant benefit.
About that “accessibility” issue - I get an annual skin cancer exam from my dermatologist and that’s when she refills my tretinoin prescription.
Really great video. Thanks for sharing!! ❤

This was excellent information. Given what you have shared, then why do Dermatologists advance patients from a lower strength to a higher strength retinoid? It makes no sense to do that unless there was some advantage to higher strength retinoids.
Please comment on the ordinary retinol

Thanks for sharing your opinion. We all will have such different experiences, its great to learn from each other!
