I am not sure there is a state were it is not restricted. The issue is that the way mental health is treated is sending the person off when some meds to "deal with the problem". This is due to the optics of putting people in those nice white padded rooms. People piss and moan about it.
Thus you have the med solution in which you are now considered treated, they cannot release you otherwise, and can again have guns.
Basically it is a failure with gun laws and treating mental health issues.
Either they do the above or just ignore the person completely and then you have these killings.
The number of mass shooting even 30 years ago was nothing compared to now. What has changed? The per capita of gun ownership has gone up but not to the level that would correlate to the number of mass shootings.
What it is though is the general degradation of morality and discipline in society and the complete disregard of treating mental health issues.
Because the 2nd amendment says nothing about mental health or convictions.

I agree, but the reason they call them suspects or person of interest is to prevent the defence attorney from claiming the cops disregarded his right to presumption of innocence.
And should his attorney manage to convince the court with such an argument, the perpetrator could sue the authorities, very likely successfully.
He would not be the first bad guy to get away with his crimes, while receiving a healthy wad of cash from the taxpayers as well.

It's crazy how shootings have become such a big part of our lives. I never heard of stuff like this back in the 50's or 60's, and if there was, it was very rare. Really this type of thing seemed to have grown alot during late 90's, and now we hear about it all the time. What happened??? Where have we gone as human beings? We have no morals, or care for other lives. It's sad to see. It makes me sick that people like this exist. If it's not this, then its war, or terrorism. It blow my mind how monsterous human beings can be.
It's clear to see the contrast between 1950/60s America and now.
From technology, to society, to economic power, relationship dynamics, etc.
Life got shitier for most in present day America.

Obviously most of the people making critical remarks about the police response have not been to Maine. Maine has a small population considering its size. Somewhere around 1 and one half million in the entire state. Even though Lewiston/Auburn area is the second largest population area after Portland, you can get into the woods, or on the water to hide in the blink of an eye. There's tons of heavy forest cover in which to hide, ( Maine is the most heavily forested state in the lower 48) back and logging roads aplenty to avoid road blocks. On the Androscoggin River where Card's car was found at a Lisbon Falls boat launch, it could have provided him an escape route. This is not like Uvalde where the cops didn't enter the school. Hundreds of police are involved in the search and responded to the bowling alley fairly quickly. The problem here is the lack of oversight in respect to gun laws and background checks and how we as a nation treat our mentally ill themselves and the public to protect all of us from harm.
This is why I don't go out to any events or gatherings anymore

It's not about trying to keep communities safe whatsoever it's to keep folks in control. Had they cared about the communities being safe they wouldn't be implementing no cash bail policies or lenient sentences on the most severe criminals as they are now doing.
Because these shooters are the FBI’s guinea pigs. That’s why it’s always said they were “monitoring the shooter for _ months” but they’re never stopped before the fact, mysteriously have access to a gun despite having mental health histories and incidents with police, and write the exact same kind of alt-right manifesto before committing the shooting.
