Gosh this world is getting worse every day. I feel so sorry for the victims and their loved ones. I cant imagine the terror of the whole city is in knowing he hasn’t been caught
I dunno, the world has always been awful. Less people die today than did in the past. You think living in the 1500's was better? The problem is that nothing is being done to stop the mass killings - people have always been awful throughout history and that hasn't changed. One thing we know for sure, the killings will continue because we fetishize guns and value them more than our own families and communities. The real question is why do we insist on living in a culture like this? It's not the "world" that has so many mass shootings, it's America, here in our own back yards.
I lived in Maine for over ten years. My boy was born there. And while I've since moved on, I maintain several relationships with 'Mainers'. I can say that they are amongst the kindest, most honest and 'real' people this great country has to offer. My heart is broken for those who not only have lost their lives, but for those loved ones and friends who bear the burden of such senseless loss.

I don’t know about the local media there, but I heard a local radio station here in California making it sound like the suspect is a “highly trained” army reservist who obviously has been trained in how to kill. The guy was a Fuel Specialist. He was a military gas station attendant! He most likely knows how to stay undetected in his environment due to his upbringing. I’m just assuming that some people in Main like to hunt. Maybe this maniac is a hunter. Not trying to upset hunters. But the escaped killer who eluded police for 10 days recently was not a military veteran. And as far as being a “firearms instructor”, most N.C.O’s in the military at one point or another have additional firearms training to be “safety instructors” when their units are sent to the qualifications range. I’m a 11 year veteran who served in a infantry battalion for 6 years. Yes we are trained. But put me out in the woods and try to survive, I will be crying for help in a matter of hours.
I am blown away that someone could carry out this act. I am praying for the families of the deceased, and those that were injured. No one deserves to be shot just because some scumbag decided to shoot others for no specific reason. Places with more restrictive gun laws tend to have less gun violence. Just look at the states with the most gun violence per capita, they are all red states.

We need to strongly consider requiring gun training courses and a full/indepth background evaluation before giving anyone a gun. Also, we should require periodic recertification and checks. A "normal" person who gets a gun could, one day, change and become a threat. For example, a person who gets a mental illness down the line.
