Millions of us pass by these waterways every day totally oblivious to it all. Officials should not simply say they are for the environment. You are giving them a long laundry list of goals to set and complete to leave this world better than they found it. Everybody, wherever you are: flood the mayors' offices with phone calls demanding them to watch all these videos and start projects to clean these places up and bring people to them to enjoy them.
Wow, just, WOW 🎯 I agree. It's a shame that we allow our waterways to be mistreated. Like you said, out of sight, out of mind. It's sad. I love and appreciate your comment. Thank you for watching.

That creek has a mud bottom. That's the way parts of the Sound or Creek are that go back into mud flats. It is normal to smell like that. Wildlife enjoy eating the fish. I live in Houston but grew up in New York. These areas are sacred to me because it started me on a life of outdoors and an appreciation for the wildlife you show Duck and Swans. Lovely.
Unfortunately, there's also raw sewage that flows into Westchester Creek during rain events. Lots of previous industrial pollution as well. You're rights about the mud bottom etc. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Omg the rat at the end 😂 typical NYer. I came across your videos a few weeks back when u kayaked the Bronx River. I’m a lifelong NYer born in Manhattan raised in the Bronx and I never got to appreciate the outdoors with the exception of hanging out in front of our building or the local park ( mainly in the 80s and 90s) and now with my young nature loving son we live in Westchester and I’ve discovered that I too love the outdoors. I try to make the most of nature on the weekends with our son and I’m not sure if I could kayak any time soon I hope to try it someday. Thanks for the new to me perspective on NYC’s nature.
Thank you so much for this amazing comment. I didn't even see the rat until I was editing the video. I think it's kinda cool to capture it on video. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Awesome tour. Thanks. This was great. Love the idea for the new channel. I grew up in NYC but live in PA now and right by a river that I want to go canoeing around so reviews would be great.
12:53 YMCA #2 Castle Hill Ave. Went there a few times as a kid. Also remember late nights doing donuts in cars there where Castle Hill and Zerega Ave meets. Also use to be the 1st stop for the Bx13 bus. I think it’s the Bx22 Now.
If you want to do some great paddling through undisturbed nature with no nearby traffic, airports, etc., come down to the Pine Barrens in NJ! There is the Wading River, Batsto River, Mullica River, Oswego River and more! If you are coming from NY, it may be best to plan an over-nighter. Plenty of camping!
I have definitely been considering this. I'm in the South New Jersey Kayakers group and have been following posts about that area. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Thank you for this video. I live in this area at Westchester Square. Your point of view from the kayak is amazing. I am an artist and have been doing paintings of Pelham Bay Park and other NYC parks. It would be great to see this area cleaned up somehow. Or least your video calls attention to this place and its needs. Thank you.
Thank you!! Speaking of Pelham Bay Park, you should watch this video of mine at Pelham Bay Park. So beautiful!! ua-cam.com/video/rj8HijgxzuI/v-deo.htmlsi=BZYWncqKysE5kKAB
@@TwoFeetOutdoors I saw it - amazing! Again your point of view at water level is incredible. It answers a lot of my curiosities about the spaces I can't see - especially looking back at the shoreline. You've inspired me to also start carrying a trash bag! Thank you.
You can keep it all on one channel and have categories on the one channel. just make the one channel versatile, with reviews and the instructional stuff like setting up your kayak or other gear.
your coney island nathan hot dog mention.. I have been buying 3 pounds at a time ever since that video.. I suddenly remembered their uniqie odor when cooking...had to have them.
that was a pretty good video. I wasn't sure with it being an hour long, but it was well edited and well put together. I liked the maze and brief rain, you will see at the end of my next video that I got caught in a thunderstorm :). Oh, and your grill is awesome! some chili cheese dogs sounds pretty good right now :)
@sailingslowmotion Thank you. I don't really plan for time. I edit what I want to use, and when I put it on a timeline, I see where I'm at. My 2 most recent videos are an hour long. My longest videos. My watch hours are off the charts, so It seems people are enjoying them. I've never had a negative comment about length. Did you notice the rat at the end when I was talking about the trash? Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Your videos are amazing, if you do a 2nd you tube channel, I would like to see how you prep for these adventures you go on, from the equipment down to the planning of the paths you take. I know sheepshead bay would be great and around that whole millbasin area. Once again thank you for making great content. I would expect the shipwreck auther kill to be the worst of the smells but I bet Westchester is just as bad lol.
There are a lot of inlets and bays to explore in and around the Hudson River and Long Island Sound. Some of them are in urbanized areas but still contail lots of wildlife hidden from the average person. Annsville Creek, Mianus River, Norwalk River, Fishkill Creek, Hutchison River, etc
Pugsley Creek and the surrounding park, which Matt sort of skipped over quickly, is one of the most bio-diverse places in the city. I used to work out of garages in the area, and saw all kinds of aquatic birds there, and the park has a big population of Pheasants, and a Yellow-crowned Night Heron rookery.
Pugsley Creek was too shallow. I bet at high tide, I could have gone much deeper into that creek. That is a really tidal creek. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
@@TwoFeetOutdoors Yes, at low tide, most of the water well north of the mouth of the creek is just the water flowing out of the mud into the center and streaming south. When the Sandpipers and Plovers are migrating through, they love that mud.
I looked back on a 1954 aerial photo and that chimney looking thing looked exactly the same and the pilings had what looks like buildings/warehouses sitting on them.
Just a fascinating series of trips this summer. Places I didn’t know existed! A new product channel sounds great. I feel like you’d do detailed honest reviews. Actually wondering what gear you use to shoot and edit these.
Thank you so much. I appreciate the feedback. There's so much that I want to do. So little time to do it all. I'll get there. I love the adventures and exploring. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
I noticed the rat during editing, not when I was there. He was the co-star. 🤣🤣 I panned over just to put him on center stage. I thought it was kinda cool he came out and made an appearance. 🐀🐭🌭
Those tall buildings are the Castle Hill projects . Mound with the tarp on it; I think it's where they keep salt or sand for the winter; A sanitation station is there.
Hey Matt I thought of an idea if you would consider it.. you know how people have bike packing trips across the US or up and down the coast? Perhaps you can do a multi day kayak packing trip up or down the coast to whichever destination and vlog each day as a new episode? Can maybe also by up the Hudson and camping along the way or along the Connecticut coast or down the coast to the mid Atlantic or something. Definitely extreme and you'd need to plan, but maybe a small tent with a few small supplies in your kayak and time it right.. just thinking it would def be a journey we'd all follow along!
@gildisc9759 Thank you. I appreciate the suggestion. I love kayak camping. I would definitely need a different kayak for a full-on excursion like that. 👍
At 08:35 , The big rectangular building to the left of your kayak is probably 1925, 1935, or 1945 Eastchester Rd. They are the tallest building in the area, located next to Jacobi on the Albert Einstein Medical Campus. They are residental dorms. Also, love your videos keep it up! I drive past westchester creek often on the hutch so its amazing seeing it from another perspective
I love your videos! I follow your progress on Google earth and it’s amazing! If you ever make it to Colorado swing by Winter Park and we can go out on kayaks on Grandby lake into Rocky Mountain National Park!
Oh, wow! Not good. So far, I have not had any issues with feeling sick paddling anywhere. I do try to avoid touching the water with my hands. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Always enjoyable to watch your posts as you share these interesting journeys. It's the ultimate of ironies that you film in an metro area of millions of people, but you can enjoy solitude & relative seclusion. It's the wonderful theme of your videos & what truly makes your channel so interesting. Thank you fro your efforts & shared results!
Thank you so much! I love experiencing relative solitude and beautiful nature in the big city. Did you spot my visitor in the rocks towards the end of the video? Thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. I'm so glad you are enjoying my videos.
Marine creeks and mountain creeks are quite different things with the same name. Same with "rivers". The Hudson river is actually a fjord or very long bay in its lower 140 miles or so.
I like looking up the places you paddle and follow along on the map. I never realized the NYC area is so vast! Lots of hidden gems, that's for sure! About 2nd channel... if that's how your brain works to keep things separated like that, I'd say go for it. Less pressure to produce a full video and focus on reviewing products.
Thank you so much for your feedback. I really appreciate your support and kind way you put it. That is kind of how my brain works, to keep things separated. 😃🙃
Enjoying your videos!! We have been canoeing everything in Metro Detroit a few decades now, it is always amazing how once on the river you can feel nature and connection.. Those boat houses are great and similar to many I painted in a massive Detroit river mural i had made in the 00's.. One of the great aspects to them is you do not have to pay taxes.. Always wondered though how the bathroom plumbing worked.. I remember they were starting to spot beavers in the Brooklyn or Bronx waterways it was in the news a while back hopefully they are still going strong.. We have seen a few coming back in Metro Detroit..
Thank you for this amazing comment. Boats with bathroom (black water / gray water) storage tanks have to have them pumped out occasionally. It's incredible that wildlife stays in some of these urban areas and don't just go to other areas with cleaner waters. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
That Westchester water does look nasty compared to other waters you been lately. 57:45 You are teasing me w/ the dogs! 59:21 Huge Rat > must smell the Nathan hot dogs Lol, but went wrong way. Got your recipe Nathan / Chile Beans & Mex cheese - I'm going to try that. Thanks for the trip again.🍺🍺🍺

@AOMilvado Oh, wait, was that you at Coney Island? I thought maybe you were trying to warn me about the people's fishing lines from the pier at Kaiser Park. If that was you, I couldn't hear what you were saying. Lol. I saw you looking. My kayak usually draws a little attention, but I wasn't thinking you were someone that recognized me.
Interesting video . .... It makes me wonder if one, or any, of those rusted hulks are the remains of boats/ships that broke loose from anchor during hurricanes in years gone by. Something to consider, before you start another channel, is to have occasional episodes dedicated to the subject matter you discussed. Then, if the volume of interest continues to increase, you can adjust and adapt by creating a dedicated channel to suit the need. Ever try a Sea Eagle product? BTW Nathan's are great!
@TechExploresNYC Yes, pretty cool, right? Have you watched my Staten Island Ship Graveyard video? Those ships look really cool on Google maps. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
I've never paddled Lake Ronkonkoma, but I've run 1/2 marathons around it with the Lt. Michael Murphy "Run Around the Lake" a few years in a row. 😀 Have you heard of the "Lady of the Lake"?? @@TwoFeetOutdoors I've heard of the legend and paddled the lake. Gotta say that there's something supernatural out on the water. Edit: There are ruined old staircases and docks scattered around. Some are sunk and others are still floating. Mostly on the southern side of the lake.

Great video as always Matt, I must say this was one BOLD paddle! I grew up in the Bronx cool to see it from this perspective.
Thank you. I appreciate it. I don't really think of it as being bold, I just enjoy exploring. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Thank you.
