Its a darn shame to see the USS Ling sitting there rotting away. It would take a lot of money, but it would be good to see it pulled out of the water and secured on dry land as a static display piece like the sub in Chicago and there's also another one (I can't remember where it is, somewhere in a park on the Mississippi river) or, towed out of there and taken down state to be tied up next to the USS New Jersey where it could get some visitors. If I remember, the water got inside the sub because some vandals went inside of it one night and opened the sea cocks. They did a lot of damage to the interior and there is currently a volunteer crew trying to save her.

It's really a shame what has happened to the Ling. I understand that there has been disputes between City, State and Federal responsibility for the vessel. The "floating Boom" is actually a device to absorb any chemicals and oils rising from the derilict vessel. In the early 1980's I took the family on the tour when my boys were very young. Also I attended Fairleigh Dickinson in the mid-1970's after moving from the Bronx and transferring to FDU. By the way, the way FDU does occupy both sides of the Hackensack with the Dental School being on the West Bank. In my teen years of the late 1960's I fished and crabbed the length of the Hackensack from NY State down to Seacaus along baarely accessible banks of both the east and west sides. Various spots along the River border the Meadowlands which at that time was a fast marshland teeming with wildlife of every sort. @@TwoFeetOutdoors yes, that sounds familiar, I couldn’t remember if it was TN or KY. That sub is so stuck in the mud it’s gonna take a miracle to get her out. If you ever come back to Jersey, it’s worth checking out the wreck of the Atlantus in Cape May

I immediately thought he was going to start grilling the franks for another one of his famous hot dogs...LOL Matt, it's so sad to see all those waterways turned into waste, polluted, full of trash. It sickens me and hurts my heart. To see a beautiful boat like that gets abandoned and vandalized like that. I would of loved to see her in person and look at the amazement of that boat.
Yeah, it's very sad. The future of the USS Ling is unknown, but I don't think it can stay where it's at now with the development of the land around it. We'll see. I hope for a better future for the Ling.
Amazing video! It's just straight-up so disappointing and heartbreaking seeing our history just go get wasted like that and not protected. Especially if someone bought Ling, had her placed on land display like Drum, and repair her so people can tour and view the history of her including her crew members.
To bad about the submarine. The longer it's sitting in water, the more damage is done. My first time on the Hackensack River, thanks for having me along.
In 2020 I was the photographer documenting the efforts to prepare the Ling to be removed from the silt and moved to a museum in Kentucky. Those efforts fell apart during the pandemic. I made a video featuring a tour of the interior with a man who served on the ship. ua-cam.com/video/vkX_PtdJIpg/v-deo.htmlsi=JT_QlVMJtI86NL3D
@user-yz4ee7ib6n Paddling along the full length of it really shows just how long it is. So many of those views and angles, it looks like it goes on forever. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
When the Ling was towed to its current location there was regular barge traffic on the Hackensack river so a shipping channel was maintained in the river up to the City of Hackensack. There has been no barge traffic to Hackensack for many years now so the shipping lane has not been maintained and is totally silted in. The shipping channel would have to be dredged out and that's federal, the state could not do such a thing on its own.
Yeah, it's a bit hidden behind a mall. If you Google it, maps will get you there. It's a pretty overgrown lesser used park, it seems. I set everything up on the dock but launched through some marsh grass off a trail near the dock. I just went and explored and made it work. It's not ideal. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
@@TwoFeetOutdoorsthat’s the Riverside Square Mall. I have to see how I can get behind it. I don’t have a kayak yet, but I have an RC boat that goes about 60mph and requires open spaces to run it.

I agree with you completely. Our veterans deserve more respect and better benefits from the federal government. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
I visited the "Ling" several times in the past when it was still open to the public for self guided tours , it is really a shame to see what time and vandalism has done to a gallant ship !

@jamesmeader6539 Certainly NOT click-bait. The Ling is no longer a museum and hasn't been accessible to the public since 2016. It's currently stuck in the silt on the bottom of the Hackensack River. The sub has been flooded by vandals, and the plank to board the Ling was damaged from Hurricane Sandy. There's currently no plans for the USS Ling's future. Do some more research. The Quester 1 was never a museum ship and is in the middle of Coney Island Creek. It doesn't get more abandoned than that. Thanks 😀 Please watch the video, and you will see.

Wow, I love this lengthy comment. So much great info. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. I also want to check out and paddle those areas around the Meadowlands.
NJ Native. I went on the Ling before Hurricane Sandy when she was still a museum. I have heard rumors an organization is interested in taking her out of state and restoring her.
Awesome 👌 That's great that you got to experience that. I heard the possibility of it going to Louisville, KY, but the cost of that would be outrageous. Is that where you heard was being considered?
@@TwoFeetOutdoors yes, that sounds familiar, I couldn’t remember if it was TN or KY. That sub is so stuck in the mud it’s gonna take a miracle to get her out. If you ever come back to Jersey, it’s worth checking out the wreck of the Atlantus in Cape May

It would be nice if they could save the USS Ling, but I know it would probably cost much more than 10 million. 😕
Another entertaining video.👏
🍞🧀 🍅 Lunch was amazing! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I'm sure there's going to be a lot more pressure for something to be done with the ship with the new construction happening around it. The new seawall looks nice. One of those communities should just take it over and put a walking path along the shoreline to enjoy the view of it. Put up a new memorial plaque.
@@TwoFeetOutdoors I agree. It would be a great asset.

Sad to see the state of the Ling now. I remember my veteran grandfather taking me to Hackensack to tour it decades ago when i was a kid and it was an operating museum sub.
I lost track of who was going to do what with Ling. Thought it had been towed away.
@jamescarroll6718 Thank you for watching and commenting. Being a sunny, beautiful day, the Ling looked beautiful. It is very sad that it's just sitting there all alone.

@daewooparts Really? I've heard "yellow submarine." Cool. Another variation. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.

I'm sure it's a battle of nobody wanting to take responsibility and spend the money.
@@MrSloika Yes, you're right. Thank you so much for this comment. Very informative. I appreciate you watching and commenting.

Where is that dock? I work about 5 minutes from the Ling and never knew there was a dock around there. I have no clue how you access that county park.
Not "abandoned" They're museum ships. Click-bait headline.
