In today's video we dive into the newest in the Neptune family from Elegoo the Neptune 4 Pro. Compared to the previous generations of Neptune printers this one has some great upgrades like an all metal hotend, Klipper firmware, linear guides, and 4 4020 blower fans for layer cooling. Today we will go through this printers specs, what setup was like, how it has performed, and I will give you my overall thoughts based on my time with it so far.

For WiFi connection one can always use a WiFi extender that has Ethernet Jack. For print farm use could go from extender to a switch and then to multiple printers.
I was going to suggest the same thing.
100%
elegoo is the AMD of 3dprinting and i like it. i have the neptune 3 plus and its been great. may have to pick up a neptune 4
Elegoo for me is a company of good to great quality especially for the price, and their customer service is very good. I called them because I had thermal runaway and they just immediately sent me a new board that fixed the problem.
My issue with them is that they sometimes release too many incremental versions of a generational printer. I got the neptune 3 shortly after it came out, then not a month later they announced the Pro 3 and I felt a little ripped off.
Very least I hope they go and try to make a coreXY printer soon, especially if they could go larger format. A Neptune XL if you will.
Yeah, pretty much. I bought Neptune 3 when I started my engineering and it has been just under a year and we already had neptune 3 pro line and now neptune 4.
@@ahmadilyas5736 I have a bet going on a forum I'm on as to whether anycubic or elegoo will make a bambu or prusa xl clone first. We were gonna write off creality's K1 but turns out the K1 Max is pretty good. Go figure.
How did you predict the orange Storm giga
Few things...
You should point out that the USB C port is a service port for serial SSH into the Linux side, not for controlling the printer.
A linksys ac750 range extender is probably the best bet for Wi-Fi communication.
Have you had chronic mcu shutdowns? The rk3328 is kinda notorious for that and it runs incredibly hot.
There are also adxl pins on the board you can probably tap into.
Rather than a USB WI-FI adapter, I’d recommend Ethernet to WI-FI adapters instead. I’ve been pleased with various brands for IT and video legacy interfaces.
The board has a RJ45, I would recommend a Powerline Ethernet so you don't have to deal with WiFi tantrums anymore.
@@eaman11 you’d need two, but yeah whatever. The point is USB to WI-FI dongles are rarely platform independent.
I've been incredibly confused why people are struggling so much looking for USB adapters when you just get an ethernet to wifi adapter and don't have to deal with drivers... I suppose the USB adapter may be cheaper, but I've been using an ethernet-wifi adapter with my camera DVR for years and it has been flawless.
@@ziggystardog They do sell it in couples usually. Ethernet in standard, once you have plugged your hub with Powerline Ethernet you can have cabled ethernet everywhere in your house and it's stable.
Years ago I bought some TP-Link personal routers. Super small little devices that are setup like any other router/gateway but can also be set to be used as a wireless adapter. I had to use one on my bedroom TV when the built in Wi-Fi died. A device like this would be perfect for those that don't want to or can't run an ethernet cable to the printer. The added benefit is that you don't have something plugged into the USB port when you want to print from a thumb drive.
By chance are you sharing the “tweaks” you have done to the print profiles? :)
That's what I've been searching the comments section for.
Me too
Just connected to one of those Wi-Fi extender
So you connect the extender to your home network then you connect the ethernet port to the printer and that way you can also add a network switch and have multiple
I'm on the fence between buying the Neptune 4 Pro and waiting for a Neptune with a larger build plate (for printing multiple parts) and builtin WiFi. No wireless LAN was a misstep on a Klipper printer. I agree that an accelerometer and a routine to calibrate input shaping on each machine to fine tune it would be great. Maybe Elegoo could make an upgrade pack with the accelerometer (with firmware upgrade) as well as a plug-and-play WiFi dongle (Ethernet or USB).
I got my Neptune 4 Pro a week or so ago and I would buy an upgrade pack tonight if available. I love this thing. If it could be better, I'd do it
@@McKevittS - I'm not sure I really need a larger build volume so I'm thinking seriously about buying the Neptune 4 Pro. I looked at the Sovol SV07 Plus for a few days and while it does have WiFi that the Neptune 4 lacks out of the box, I just couldn't get happy with the acetyl V wheels, even though I've printed a lot on my Sovol SV01 and never needed to adjust the acetyl wheels. I'm worried that the forces from the larger build area will put more stress on the acetyl V wheels, even if I print relatively slowly, and they may deform enough under dynamic load to slightly reduce print quality. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the Neptune 4 Pro's steel-on-steel motion control components, not only for long term reliability but also for high print quality.
While I'd almost certainly upgrade the Neptune 4 Pro to WiFi for all of the advantages of a LAN attached 3D printer, the full size USB port on the front will be a huge upgrade after a couple of years of fiddling with a micro SD card as I do with the SV01. That wouldn't be too bad for a 3D printer that repeatedly prints the same products, but I do a lot of prototyping and it's a major hassle.
i hope u waited lol.
@@themechanic6151 - I bought the Neptune 4 Pro and it's very nice although I'm still working through the new printer issues with slicer settings, etc. Added to that is a minor hassle of buying and installing a Linksys AC750 to get the wired LAN port on the Neptune 4 Pro onto my WiFi network. The Neptune 4 Plus and Max went on sale two days ago and they have built-in WiFi. I'm waiting for the Neptune 4 Pro Max (with steel rails for motion control).
Neptune 4 plus is the one to go. It has input shaping, better hotend, no endstop and wifi out of the box, also bigger for just 50 bucks more. I got one and love it.
Yea, I’ve had quite a few people run into that Wi-Fi issue. Mine didn’t have that issue, but I’ve also had people find those Tenda adapters aren’t working for them too. So who the heck knows what’s up. They really need to add Wi-Fi onboard, but most companies running variations of that board are using dongles too.
I just experienced a similar issue with a completely different board and manufacturer. It ended up coming down to a file that was conflicting but without really knowing what you are looking for and Linux how would you know? I spent easily an hour or two trying different variations of instructions from different sources. With how many people run wireless with Klipper manufacturers should ship with a dongle and instructions on exactly how to set up. Leaving it up to the end user has proven to be a pretty poor experience.
@@ModBotArmy 10,000% agreed. Definitely the big miss on that machine.
1ST COMMENT. I have a Neptune 4. I'm impressed with it's price and print quality. Speed is good, too. I can start it without hassle or worry. Did you notice how much their Elegoo Cura looks like Ultimaker Cura? I don't get the print quality issues that you have. That can be a combination of belt tension, print temps, filament brand, filament moisture level, filament type, leveling, etc. I just printed a statue of David planter and it is perfect. No ringing at all. In fact, haven't got ringing (ghosting) on anything. I usually print at 250mm/s with a layer height of 0.18mm. Seems to be a magic layer height number. Print at 195°C with bed temp at 62°C. I've been able to print even at high-speed with those settings and not lose layer strength. I use Overture brand filament almost exclusively. PLA+ (professional) or Super PLA+ and PETG is what I typically print with. Super PLA+ is 5x stronger than PETG but prints crazy well and doesn't bone up the printer. I use Amolen for multicolor filaments and their silks. I would recommend for the price.
Super PLA+ is that good?
I got around the wifi issue with just adding a wifi extender near the printer with an ethernet port. Works perfectly.
I have ordered the same printer and was wondering about this, too.
Did you have to install some drivers or did the wifi to lan adapter just worked out of the box ?
@@boom-rh2wv out of the box. Followed instruction on how to connect the wifi extender to my network and everything just worked. I bought TP link extender for $20 on Amazon and have Xfinity.
Nice Video Dude! At 9:40 the printer does this "nozzle cleaning stripe" at the edge. I am a new neptune user and I noticed at the beginning sometimes he does the line on the edge and sometimes not. How is this feature called and how to set the parameters for it? Thanks a lot!
Thanks. I have a maxed out E3 running klipper but as it ages it's getting hard to maintain. I think this is the fresh start I need if I don't go corexy.
the ender 3 v3 SE is currently 100 less
looks really tempting, I am wondeirng if it will be the regular price or if it is pre order only though
I want to jump but I have a feeling miceocenter will offer a first time customer coupon for $99
Great video Sir. I didn't know Elegoo did anything other than Resin.
I knew them mainly for Arduino knockoffs a few years ago
Hello, what isnit for a cube at 11:01min? Where can i get the stl pls 🤔😎🙃
I got the Neptune 4 pro and have been trying to get a camera working on it. From what I've heard, cameras are not supported but klipper does most definitely support cameras. If anybody finds a way to get it to work, I would be grateful to hear about it.
I just run Octoprint with Klipper on RPI4.
I just got mine working using a way simpler method:
SSH into the printer
sudo systemctl enable webcamd
sudo systemctl start webcamd
Go onto the printers webinterface
Go into settings and then Cameras
Select the "Default" camera and activate it
I'm running an Aukey PC-W3 Webcam and the quality is pretty good.
I'd love to see you do a 3D printer tier list. I wanna hear them hot takes!
I bought one--nice quick printer. However, why load the steel rails with dust & grime attracting grease? The steel rollers have bearings. They're supposed to roll on the rails, not slide on them. Maybe the grease is for the lead screws?
How about using dry-lube like on bike chains? PTFE-based lubricant thats made for off trail biking without attracting dust and particles sand-particles to the chain.
Can the print speed be set to be slower at 60-100mm/s or is the default only a minimum speed of 250mm/s?
I'd say that WiFi (or rather Network) is one of the main points of a Klipper printer.
Also, I see a lot of comments about how WiFi doesn't work well in these Raspberry alternatives, mainly when using a third party USB adapter. I'd like to see these Skipr like boards including a good WiFi module with external antennas and a hardware button to disable the WiFi module if user wanted (maybe a jumper).
Could you make your Neptune 4 pro profiles available for download? I’m dialing in my own currently but I still have yet to optimize for speed, right now I’m just tweaking for best quality, but I’d love to be able to compare with the profile analyzer tool. Thanks!
yes please do this
Great review Bud
This is a really good review! One thing I don't understand is what is the point on 300°C on a printer that doesn't have an enclosure.
kinda curious if we can make something similar to that x axis fan. Ive been able to print fast on my bed slinger and now my bottleneck is cooling. I looked at some voron examples and some, like the v0.2, have extra cooling on the sides that does not move as the bed moves down so it only focuses on the fresh layers. Would be interested to see if this slowly becomes a mod people add.
Thanks for posting the review!
Thanks. Considering this as an upgrade from a Creality Ender 3 V2. Also looking at the Ender 3 V3 SE, so I need to see what this one has that is worth an extra $100.
Are replacement nozzles readily available? I didn't see on their site.
They have been used by creality in the ender 7 and 5s1 for a while now. Also the ankermake m5c uses about the same size. Personally i dont like this size since its rather uncommon and i haven't found steel nozzles yet, only brass, nickel plated brass and copper
Aliexpress selling hardened steel and stainless steel nozzles for neptune 4 printers.
That screen should be running klipper like the sovol. Also, they need to release the nozzles...brass 0.4 only is not enticing at all.
why is nobody talking about the Neptune 4 Plus? i think the extra $50 is worth the wait, but want to scope it out a bit more ahead of time.
Great points.
Interesting printer thou.
Thanks for sharing your experience with All of us 👍😃
Ethernet into a wifi extender is how i do one of my klipper set ups that has no native wifi
Just got a neptune 4 pro. Havent been able to use it since i can level it at all the z stop issue seems to have defeated me
Forget the WiFi. Just invest in a TP link power line adapter. Job done.
100%
is the auxiliary cooling fan controllable in GCode?
It matches the part cooling fan speed (unless you turn it off with the switch of course).
@@Chirimorin ah thanks that sounds really nice
I just wonder what the max flow rate of this printers hotend is. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.
At 0:43 did you say 'today we will go over the printers spanks'...???
Great review! Thanks
I am getting the a1 mini or should I get this one
I would chose the a1 mini. The neptune ist not very reliable, because it has a lot of software bugs and with the a1 you get the option to buy an ams
Has anyone been able to get Cura style rafts in Orca Slicer? Thanks!!
My biggest problem with connection to pc was that Neptun 4 doesn't support static IP. Every time I start the printer IP is different, and I need to check IP address before printing ...better than using USB stick but still a pain
What would you recomend between this and sovol svo6?
I am not a fan of the wheels but the metal ones on pro don't sound too bad
I've read that the mainboard for this printer crashes a lot mid print, is it true?
I have two heavily modded, klipper'ed neptune 2s' and I like them. Maybe one day I'll pick up a newer Elegoo offering.
Can I ask what kind speeds and accelerations you are getting with the old models?
I just got a 2s and I'm considering swapping to Klipper.
@@eaman11 on mine that I have also klipperized my input shaping graphs max out at about 4000mm/s and i can run travel moves at around 400-500mm/s. when I go above that things started to misbehave
@@gebebbebebebr Dam man that is a fast bed slinger, I'll get a CHT nozzle and some extra cooling and I'll try that too!
Thanks and congratz!
I have one, but I don't know how I can use the clipper. Seriusly I few that... I don't extract a 100 percent of it.
what are the parameters of the retract?
I own a Neptune 2s and wifi is something Elegoo has struggled with for some time. However the printer isn't the actual problem, their version of Cura is. I struggled for months to get the 2s to play nice over wireless after installing the MKS module. It would work, but it was temper mental and would randomly print out absolute garbage. Then I ordered a Bambu Labs printer and while waiting on it, I decided to get familiar with Bambu studio. While I had to jump through all kinds of silly hurdles with cura, bambu slicer simply recognized the printer, set it up and ran it better by default than cura ever did. So the problem was never the printer and never the wifi chip, it was the slicer and how it communicated. It blows my mind that their own branch of slicer works worse than another manufacturers entirely. I'm still actively printing on the 2s and it's running better than it ever has and I'm getting some solid upgrades printed for it now. Which is good because at this point if Bambu pisses me off anymore, I'm going to refuse delivery of the damned thing when it arrives and just get a refund.
So, if connected to the house network with an ethernet cable, will I be able to send the gcode files directly to printer from my computer and bypass the pendrive?
yes you can connect to the printer through a web interface. just check your printer settings for the IP address
I really don't care about wireless, in fact I'm pro ethernet here, I plugged mine into my network and it works.
“Baby’s first klipper printer”? Did you yoink that from the MandicReally channels video or is that a common phrase I’ve never heard?
ive enjoyed my Neptune 4 pro so far. i had one issue with nozzle occasionally dragging over printed areas, any idea how to fix that? also i had some part warping issues and just ended up turning off the huge fan altogether at least during winter dry months...seems to help. I lowered extrusion to 95% seems to help with nozzle drag but still happens some....
turning combing off introduces stringing but helps with collision
What I still wamt is the possibility to control via phone. See a video what is currently happening with the possibility to stop the print. EVEN when i am not in the same WiFi Network. So when I am grocery shpping (for example). This is important for bigger prints which are aking very long.
Elegoo had to add Wi-Fi and accelerometer on this printer . Anycubic Kobra 2 pro has WI-FI and accelerometer for lower price .
Neptune 4 Plus has both
Noise doesn't HAVE to be part of the cost of better cooling, printer manufacturers just need to start using quality fans like Noctua's. That said, a printer using quality fans likely isn't going to be hitting a $300 price point like this one. It would be great if they'd start designing things to allow fan upgrades with minimal effort, though.
USB WI-FI adapter are pain. Just buy wifi repeater with ethernet port. U can buy used for like 5-10 € new for +-20€
6:00 this machine have quiet mode fans
Super PLA+
Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro is great but I'm worried about what glue to use to make the models stick to the table. 😃😃
I get why people want a cheaper version on a printer but they exist so I don’t get why a company like elego would waste tgeor time making this printer and not coming out with at least a larger printer
@0:29 My God! All those years, al those models and yet they (and many other brands) can't run a belt parallel to the axis.. This such a simple to fix design flaw.. 😖
@1:06 another example of this incompetence..
I recently repaired one of these at my shop, and they cheaply replicated the Creality Sprite extruder for their print head. And I mean cheap as in low quality, not cheap as in cost effective.
At least they use bmg clone gears (neptune 3 pro had them) and not those stupid straight cut feed gears, so it can actually grip tpu
@@kilianlindlbauer8277creality sprite extruder can't print tpu? That sucks
@@omegadeepblue1407 it can, but only hard tpu like 90 and 95a. 85a and lower (car tires are like 70 to 75a i think) not so much, you can pretty much pull the filament put of the extruder, the generic, single brass gear extruders grip soft tpu better than a sprite extruder. Just watch makers muse tpu videos, in one of the later ones he features the elegoo neptune 3 pro which is rather good at printing soft tpu , while some printer with the sprite really struggles with the same filament
@@kilianlindlbauer8277 thanks
The Neptune 2 wasn't good. I had it and returned it after one year due to not printing reliably after printing not much over this one year.
May I ask who did you buy it from that gave you refund after a year of use ?
Thanks for sharing!!!
@@joearchuleta7538 Amazon. They gave me a complete refund.
Was the video behind you? 😜🤪
"Elegeoo"

No idea how that slipped through. Thank you.
why is it that you reviewers never mention anything about these neptunes constantly knocking supports into the 13th dimension of hell? i have 5 of them, soon to be 3 because im returning 2 and maybe my max also. they need to stick with resin and leave fdm ito creality
