Same. We used to drive to my uncles and stop at a gas station/restaurant on a very steep part of the mountain. It was next to an a large highway so I’d hear all the jakes. No idea what they were at the time, but I loved them.
years ago I worked on a nuclear power plant and was in charge of hauling steel from the laydown yard to the job site. Strictly off road. We had an old 1953 international with a 250 Cummins. We would put as much as 140 thousand pounds of steel on the trailer and the old truck would pull it like it wasn't back there. Never got out of third gear. Fun hauling.
The 444 Cummins was such an underrated engine because of the poor cooling and injection systems. But I gotta say, if you keep them tuned right, they run and sound just as good as a red-top N14 or the like. Killer sound.
MichaelTJD60 They were an important step on the way to the Redtop!444 was a tinkerer's wet dream! If you were one of those guys who love to tune on something every weekend these things were unbeatable! Important member of the 885 family!
I like Peterbilt just 379 and 389 models. And I like this particular Cummins engine! I play American Truck Simulator just on Peterbilt and have been looking for an engine that I would like in sound for a long time. At first I played on the engine, which was installed directly in the game itself. It was a Cat C15 (625 horsepower). But then I found the Cummins 444 KRM engine thanks to mods.
Very awesome....This I think was one the the best truck cab ride videos I have ever seen...Very well done whoever was driving...Nicely done on the shifting and braking.....Thanx for sharing this!!!! =)
Totally flawless job of driving. Much precision. Boston IN. area grain haulers of much Quality. Thank you Mr. Richard Pruitt. Totalmente impecável trabalho de condução. Muito precisão. Na área de Boston. grãos transportadores de muita qualidade. Obrigado Sr Richard Pruitt.
i like the way you downshift, i think thats a good way to downshift, i have a cummins big cam 400 turnec up to 500hp, in my Peterbuilt 359 will duel 6inch straight pipes my jake are very loud on third stage but i love it Cummins for life.
Spoon I’m not telling you to like anything I’m simply just saying Ford sucks so instead of putting ur shitty 2 cents into something you know nothing about move along and hop back in ur rust bucket ford
@@Laryhoover69420 Accept PACCAR your truck industry is owned by European companies. You may ask yourself why. And slowly more and more of you will love the DAF engine (Dutch) which is renamed to PACCAR. You need to get accustomed to big power by low rpm as well a smooth and silence engine.
That ol Cummins is on the money most of them had a problem about the rpm's not wanting to fall back down to make smooth soft shift they seemed to be pulling air and would just makeyou would have to wait to float the Transmisson, thats a fine sounding com - a - long and in their time was a fine Engine
My dad had Inter transtar4670 with a 444 in it ,only problem was the aussie roads kept stuffing the radiator mounts.other wise a buitiful truck in its time,we also had slines with 525 s in them ,now they were great trucks.cummins man .
They were a great running old 855 after you converted them from low-flow you can drag that load and hundred degree heat all day long and never break 175
This beautiful sounding engine has some of the best qualities of the 2 stroke Detroit and the big inline Cat (just not as low of a rumble). Cummins was making some really great engines when they produced the Big Cam 400, the 444 and the N14/N14+. Once the EGR engines came along...not so much.
Question: When the driver starts to slow down for the stop, I can hear the jakes come on strong and loud for a split second, but then go quiet, almost as if the jakes weren't on at all. Same thing appears to happen on every downshift leading to the stop... anyone know why the jakes aren't super loud the entire time the truck is slowing (except when the driver is revving up for the next downshift)?
Hey bud, It can either 1: Simply be on the first or second stage of the Jake. Or #2: Plain and simple he's got fat stack straight pipes and the shifting down "from lower RPM to *all of a sudden higher* causes a huge bubble of exhaust basically. Which multiplies the sound and amount coming out. Hope this helped.
go on my video to see me testing out my Jake brake, ill post more videos when its completed my fuel pump is not responding to good ill be taking it out to get shimed and recalled for even more power i can get a easy extra 100hp out those PT Pumps thanks to a friend who knows how to turn any cummins into a monster, in the fucture i plan on upgrading the motor to put out 800hp but for now 500hp is good
But you can’t hurt a 237 or a 300+ Mack especially with #55,000 rears LOL talk about deep reduction gears you don’t see the parts of Kentucky I saw. Not from the interstate, I went places in a 75 DM 800 Mack you wouldn’t think a dirt bike would go

Justin Martin hot in summer cold in winter beat your brains out but couldn’t get enough of ridin them coal buckets with my uncles n cousins and hearing that sound those were good days
Yea, I’m a truck mechanic by trade, and being in an agricultural community lets me see a lot of these beasts. The old off set cab dm is sweet, it has a one of a kind approach you can’t miss em. Mack’s new heavy truck chassis are still the good stuff, camelback suspension, heavy overbuilt components, etc. But sadly, the engine took a severe blow when Volvo was thrown in the mix, it just isn’t the same bullet proof monster they used to be.
+BlueLivesMatterPA My thoughts exactly! Wish my international sounded like that, certainly beats what it sounds like now. although the second-gen maxxforce engines have pretty good torque and decent power.
Love the way he downshifts a real driver who is operating his equipment with precision
Man I love this sound. As a kid I used to stare as semis would roll past our house. That turbo whistle with the deep roar is so nestalgic

Nice control of the accelerator keeping it within the 2000rpm range. You are a very good driver who knows what he’s doing.

What type turbo are you using in this 444? Is it a Holset HT4C original turbo?

Yeah. Sure did a great job of keeping foot into it.

believe it's cause he's letting the trucks tach drop low so the jake brake gets lower and quiet.
It's probably the camera self adjusting the sound so it's not louder than is should be, because I've never heard a jake do that either,

MontageGaming Inc Yes the jake brake goes quiet because of the rpm. it gets quiet around 900 rpm
