{GET THE TRAILER!!!!} Bruce, this is the type of video that is food to the soul of us "old timers". I started in my misspent youth in 1957 using a 1944 AUTOCAR ex NAVY tractor with a 50 ton winch for a large body shop. Some of those pulls were definately sketchy! Sure brings back many memories. The equipment today is in a different world that what was available then. The age if 6 volt batteries. Those WHITE tractors were very common in fact the gasoline delivery tanker (ATLANTIC RICHFIELD) was one of the first diesels readily available. Please keep up the great videos like this in the future.

If at all possible, you should buy the trailer as well. Then you have a complete set, of old preservable unit and trailer which would be a great attraction both for the channel and the shop. SO glad you went back and found the owner, who knows what you may find once you really get to look. Thanks from UK.

24 years ago I got to work a little on a 47 white Super Power just like this. It has a Straight 6 cylinder gas engine. The White script was cast into every part of the engine. And the box under the dash is the same heater the one I worked on had. Cool trucks always liked the looks of them.

Brings back memories of some ass busting work. In the 80s, the company I worked for has a '62 White. It was white in color. At that time we delivered primarily produce. They even had an old single axle trailer that had an antique refrigeration system for the lack of a better description. Used ice not freon. I didn't have any experience with it and I'm don't regret that. No turbo, just the engine. Drug going up a hill and fly going down.

Honestly: take the super-massive job on restoring the White. Not necessary to showroom level, but "nice working truck" level of restoration. WITH THE TRAILER! That would be beyond amazing, because White trucks are something you can't find anywhere these days. Well, maybe Australia, but they are going fast and it's part of trucking history in itself.

The 2 loves of my life after my wife is old iron and Heavy Duty Towing and Recovery. You can learn a lot about your rotator, but it takes years to master. Much like learning how to work on the old trucks, it only comes with experience. Make sure to always work within your Working Load Limits (WLL), and use cable breaking techniques for winch pulls. Your spreader bar would have been good to spread out the pull for that load to avoid the sharper angle from the front to the rear of that truck when you hoisted it up.

Those old White trucks came with all kinds of engines in the many different models over the years, some models even had gas engines, like a 440 big block, and others had Cummins turbo-diesel engines, and some of the smaller compact trucks had Ford, Perkins, or Detroit Diesel engines in them. Yesterday I thought it was like a 1946, but they all look alike, but now looking at the front wheels It must be around a 1950 or newer.

That White tractor probably at the start had a straight 6 gas motor made by White motor company. Monstrous things to work on. I’m think that that tractor can out after the White Mustangs also known as Snubnose, the hood was barely three feet long and with a 220 cummins in it with a ten speed road ranger the stick shift was touching the back wall of the cab. Drove one during the tomato season in Chatham On. for Charron transport.

From recovering several dozen cars and trucks buried in or overgrown with weeds and other vegetation I quickly learned that a week or two before you go and recover the truck /try and get them running etc that you spray the truck and its surrounding with Round-Up or similar weed killer and then if possible come back and weed whip around the truck. Doing so helps get rid of critters and other creepy crawling things. Additionally experience has taught me that it is a good idea to let rescued treasures like that old White and Pete to sit a few days before out in the parking lot before bringing them into the shop to give and critters and creepy crawly things a chance to leave under their own and then new treasure a nice long bath with a steam cleaner/pressure-washer. Personally I don’t like bringing snakes, mice, rats, opossums, raccoons, etc much less insects into my shop if I don’t have to.
PS A snatch block should be attached to a low point on the Wrecker so that the cable is pulling straight as possible towards the hook point of the truck that is being pulled instead of pulling on an
