I've always been super impressed with the gradients and blending you achieve without an airbrush. The wet blending and control of the paint is so well done. I've been painting since the early 90's and I'm still learning new stuff from you.
I was teaching a beginner mini painting class and I started using the Frazetta shirt I was wearing as an example. I made a circle with my fingers and put it on my shirt. You could take pretty much any small portion of the painting and there was little to no detail. It all works to support and suggest a few key areas. I haven’t been able to do that with any of my minis yet but this video makes me want to try again!
Really intersting work, the reductive approach really comes to live with this shorter projects, where your light sketch from the start stays visible for quite some time. Thank you, my gears are turning too now and I think I've learned a lot today!
Really enjoyed watching the process of this miniature coming together! I could not tell from the footage - is this a ~ 28 mm figure or is it a bigger scale?
Amazing work are the places in Alaska where I can increase my skills in painting or any renowned painters coming up to teach classes in Anchorage, Alaska where do I find this information out at?
Sam, you gotta turn down your ISO by a LOT on your camera. The close ups of the mini have some very gnarly grain, it makes it rough to really see what you are painting in detail
You’re the best Sam! Love the way you paint, explore along the way & the way you deliver the tutorials! None better in my opinion!!
Thank you so much, I'm honored :)

Thanks man! It's an endless pursuit and that's the fun part. It feels new quite often.

That's a good way to look at it! Glad you enjoyed it. We don't have quite the amount of atmospheric play available on a canvas, but we try.

I love that purple shadow that you added at the end. Pushing that color into the shadows really enhanced your other tones.
Cheers man, it's all about those subtle details!
I love high contrast stuff like this
Sam always looks to me like a surfer who wandered into the wrong shop, met some friendly nerds and just never left
Your bonus voice over is THE BEST! :)
Haha, thanks man!
Another inspirational video and tutorial! Thanks for sharing

What a beautiful mini! You have definitely stoked my desire to try a new technique! Thanks!!

His spirit is always near haha.
I love this style, and I'd like to see more (and try it myself). Thanks!
Glad you liked it! I'm always looking for new ways to simplify things.
Glad to hear that, unchained!

Unchained!
Hell yeah! Soo much meat and potatoes in this! Specially for those of us always struggling with speed and quality! Your my boy blue!
Thanks, glad it helps! 💪
I finally don't have a massive, pointless class project to work on at night. Time to dust off the painting station.
One might say you're unchained!
Nice!
Thanks!
You rock!🤟🤟
As a beginner, how do I paint rainbow fairy wings?
haha, I still struggle with rainbows.

Thanks man! Ya got me there, I have no idea. I'm in Wisconsin.
Do you still get the big packs of nylon brushes? Were those on Amazon?
I use Monument brushes these days. But I used to but pack of those brushes on Ebay.

Thank you! I made the adjustments. I'm pretty bad with cameras as it's the newest thing for me. Much appreciated.
What kind of miniature is it?
