I love how you've stuck with doing painting/tutorial videos. Many channels move on to more painting-adjacent videos that are for pure entertainment but I really enjoy your approach to painting and am glad to see it continue. Keep up the good work!
Yea it’s worth watching, I’m learning something and I can’t wait for this kick starter to drop I’ve only ever painted with Army painter (which is a beginners best choice IMO), and like 4 Vallejo paints(which are leagues better then AP) but from what I’ve heard and watch P3 makes Vallejo feel like army painter 😂
Wow. Absolute kudos to Steamforged Games for not only continuing the legacy of P3, but iterating on and improving the original recipe. Pure bottled magic
The paints look awesome. Been out of work for a while but hopefully when things work out I can pick up some of their new paints for my son and I. Our 12 paints only go so far.
Coal Black... LOVE that P3 paint! Glad to see it's still going to be a thing. P3 is still and has been for almost a decade been a part of my paint box.
My brother (who hasn't been in the hobby for over 2 decades) recently found a stash of old Citadel paints and gave them to me. Some of those paints I didn't even know GW made (colored metals for instance). Out of all the bottles only Tin Bitz had seperated a bit (which I would argue is not the fault of the bottle), the rest were pristine. Bottles with lids aren't the problem, bad lids are.
True. I love my dropper bottles, but if GW dropped their current garbage pots and went back to the OG Citadel/P3/Foundry pot design, I wouldn't have a preference. The only issue with the P3-style pots is that the plastic the lids are made from sometimes turns brittle as it ages, which makes it easy to snap the hinge if it happens. That could just be an issue with pots that're exposed sunlight though, I'm not sure.
@nicholassinnett2958 is totally right about the brittle lids. I don't mind pots, but the lids of every color I used regularly all broke. No thumb tab to pop the lid, combined with dried paint around the seal makes it so tricky and annoying to open without the paint flying everywhere like a spring snake in a pringles tube.
I'm super excited to see this range come back! Fun fact: the main reason these are so easy to blend is due to the painting style used on Warmachine Warjacks. They have tons of smooth, rounded surfaces, which look great with wet blending. All of the old Privateer Press painting tutorials feature tons of wet blending and two brush blending.
There's an old Privateer Press video floating around (that may have originally come out on DVD) that was hugely helpful on my learning to paint miniatures. Glad to see this paint line back.
Thank you Ninjon for re-sparking my love for painting figures after almost 20 years. I am (well you are ^.^) teaching my 7y old son how to paint. All the best.
Painting since the '90's. Started with GW pots with lids, but nowadays all my paints are dropper bottles. Never painted with P3 though. Sure want to try some of their paint range, but in the dropper bottles of course 🙂
You’re absolutely right about those old paint pots. Not long ago I pulled out my old paints from the early 90’s and was surprised to find that they were still good. Something about those pots made such a great seal.
Those bottle were very much like the very very old Citadel types that would seal amazingly well provided you kept the rims clear of buildup...(IIRC, some mentioned they used the same manufacturer that GW/Citadel used to use with their original lines). I really wouldn't mind if these paints were offered in dropper bottles though, just out of ease of deployment vs pots. Won't stop me from getting the new stuff(Ioved the old Citadel and the P3 paints, although the old P3 metallic were a bit hit and miss).
I've got Citadel pains from the early 90s that are still good. Not long ago, I painted some of the original Striking Scorpions with the original Striking Scorpion green :D.
Damn, when I was starting this hobby, people weren't recommending paint ranges but specific paints. Pick yellow from that range, pick purple from the other etc. Now we have whole ranges that are all so solid, the options we have now! Damn, the hobby has evolved tremendously.
Honestly I find it overwealming. I bought a crap tonne of AK but I find the new Vellejo ranges pretty similar to use but without caps that split/clog. And I don't even know wtf the difference is between game color and model color apart from the colours available. What the hell do I buy now? Vince Recommended Vellejo Ice yellow in an old vid and his recent one he recommends AK Ice yellow, right after I just ordered the new forumula vellejo one. Did I make the best choice!? I have no idea. Sometimes I think the smartest thing would be to sell 90% of my paints, buy a single set of Golden Soflat acrylics and mix all my colours, and it'll prob save me days staring at a shopping cart filled with paints I may or may not need that aren't properly represented in pictures.
@@blakearius You made the best choice. Us hobbyists are as addicted to new paints as we are to new boxes, but new paint is easier to justify as it's a fraction of the cost of a box of minis xD
@blakearius you're overthinking it. It's not that serious. Try as much as you can, and you will find what you like, and what you don't like. Don't not use what you have or like because someone says something else is better. At the end of the day it's just paint for a hobby and no one will remember you made the wrong choice in 100 years
I was among the few in my local space who went over to P3 when it came out. I loved the way they had the built in 'steps' for quick, easy blending. I still have a large collection but many of the more used ones are exhausted or close to. I've already backed the kick starter to top up my set. Also I've been painting several times as long as you but I'm barely half as good. This might get me back into it again.
I really don't need another paint range, but when army painting the ability to wet blend on the model means cloaks, spacemarine armour, gostly weird bits, metal and horses all paint waaaaay quicker. So whilst I likely won't be buying them all, for most big projects I'll pick out two or three purely to wet blend quickly and simply without falling back on oil paints. That way it will absolutely speed up my army painting
P3 was (is?) ridiculously good at wet blending, and was my go-to paint for it. I think buying a couple pots of it and giving it a try may up your blending game! Sometimes, it really is the paint and not the painter.
11:00 you can do the same with a dropper bottle. Instead of squeezing it onto your palette - hold it horizontally and hold your brush to the nozzle. Squeeze lightly - and you can have as little paint as you like. 🎉
@@obyiscushobbyandgaming it will only happen if your nozzle has dry paint on it In general, if it's blocked you shouldn't squeeze but use a needle to fix it.
Or just squeeze the paint directly onto the palette instead of holding the bottle in the air and squeezing until there is enough for a drop to fall or it shoots out in a stream. Holy crup do youtubers like to waste paint filling their palette. Getting even less than enough for the tip of a brush shouldn't be a problem. It would be a bit pointless, but not a problem...
Def doable but still more effort. I mean I get both sides. People also seem to associate paint pots with the new citadel version which is literally the worst attempt at containing paint known to man. The old GW paints were solid and worked fine in old pots similar to these
War Machine was the first miniatures game I ever really encountered 'in the wild.' A buddy of mine needed to run to his house before a movie and he had a little card table set up in his kitchen with a bunch of models and paints scattered across it, and we had to relocate everything because we were taking the table to a party. It was kind of a bizarre moment, because we were friends through comics and video games, but he had never mentioned anything about miniature gaming in any context before that point, and I knew next to nothing about it other than being vaguely aware that people painted toy soldiers. By the time I got into the hobby myself, the good P3 colors were hard to come by, so this kickstarter has my name on it.
Everytime I watch one of your videos I get so inspired that I have to start painting right away. Thanks for the motivation and for helping me slay the grey!
Well, broken anvil paints, it's been fun. Time to find my old p3 paints and put them on my desk so they can watch me order the new ones! Except Thornwood Green, that one never left my desk.
Thornwood Green, Coal Black, Hammerfall Khaki, Exile Blue, Cygnar Blue Highlight, Grave Digger Denim, Arcane Blue, Deathless Metal... it actually surprises me that amount of P3 that is still on my table! I was really glad I did a huge P3 restock at the beginning of the year.
Do i need new paints? No. Did i click notify on launch to get new paints? Yes. Thank you so much for all the content, it's helped tremendously in my own journey of being a mini painter.
I just started painting again, after taking a good few months break. Loved Scale75 as Paints but now changed to the new Warpaints Fanatic and they've just been working lovely for me.
P3 has some amazing colors you can't really find in other lines. I bought out my local store once privateer press was having issues... Coal black, khador red, morrow white, menoth white and highlight. So many good colors
Cryx Bane Base too. It's like the cool version of GW Death Korps Drab. I've noticed some P3 paints have a subtle undertone of a complementary colour, like CBB (which is a muddy dark green, but with a hint of red). I love when paints do that, since it makes colours really interesting, but P3's the only brand that seems to experiment like that.
Thank you for pointing out what makes this paint different. I really enjoy the thought you put into each video. This and your great sense of humor make your videos a must watch when I see them posted.
What a blast from the past. My first ever time I put paint to model was from P3. My cousin gave me some pots to take home and try my hand with skaven. Many years ago but I remember it fondly
I hope to paint half as well as you do. I am just getting into it as of a couple of months ago. Thank you for sharing your talent this way so that we as a community can learn from you.
The Bone and Black Highlighting looks amazing... Definitely going to be backing this Kickstarter. Your honest painting/tutorial guides are one of my go 2s! Keep doing these.
Thanks for all the content you are producing, you are one of the few people, who I have followed from their beginning on UA-cam. It is amazing to see how you developed as a painter, but always stayed true to yourself. Keep up the good work!
Really looking forward to trying them out and see if all their paints now hold up to the high quality that Steamforged Games envisioned. I have tried it a handful of years back and ran into to many colors for my taste that did not live up to P3 branding, but still some really good ones. Hope they all now have achieved the top quality.
I'm loving the return of p3. It's been my dominant paint for years, but I gotta come out in support of the dropper bottles. I definitely had old citadel paints circa 2005 or so turn to solid unrecoverable blocks in pots. I found the paint gets in the hinge, you don't notice and a week goes by when you realize oh crap it wasn't sealed right. I don't have that problem with a top that I screw on.
Ninjon, love your channel/work, and your podcast with Miniac. Appreciate your in depth reviews, your skaven tutorial got me to try wet blending for the first time this week!
As I've only been in the miniature painting realm for a few years, I had heard of this range but never had the chance to try it or see it for sale. I am happy to have watched some solid view points on it and would be excited to see this line for sale in the future so I hope it's kick starter does very well! Thanks for the content!
Fantastic review of these new paints. I'm personally really excited because I still have so many P3 paints that I was worried I'll never find again. The Molten Bronze is a favorite and I use it a ton.
Another entertaining and educational video :) Thank! P3 is and has been my favorite paint brand for years, and I'm so exited too! We here in Denmark have had a hard time finding shops that stock them as well, so hopefully we can get the ones that are used up, replaced soon.
Unfortunately my local place just started carrying Pro Acryl. So my paint love has a current favorite. Love your passion and let's me know it definitely a quality paint. Luckily for you, your miniture painting has blessed you in multiple ways. Keep up the great channel.
when i first got into mini this hobby i was given p3 bottles that had been in storage for about 10 years from what i was told and they still ran flawless and was my favourite paints i owned
P3 were my first non-gw paints that I tried, many years later they still are my go to for almost all anything consiting of few colours I have left. Good coverage, vibrant colours, great mixing, even their metallics were decent. Can't wait for them to come back.
Interesting paints. I will have to look into them. I have been looking to getting back into the Warhammer 40k hobby and am amazed at all the companies that make paints now.
I stopped painting for about a decade and I'm just now getting back into it. When I started rebuilding my painting supplies I was super bummed that P3 wasn't around anymore because it was one of my favorites too. Glad to hear they're coming back.
I've loved P3 paints in the past. I'm glad to see someone else loves them too. I loved blending and stuff I was able to do with it in the past. Last couple of years I've been using it with ProAcryl. I hope I can get P3 paint in store again. There were certain colors I loved and used the most like coal black, menoth white, umbra umbral.
You've always talked about P3, but I've never been able to get any. I'm happy to see that they are redeveloping it, and can't wait to get my hands on some! I'm really bad at wet blending with the paints I have because of their low dry time, so I'm excited to try the technique with this new paint range. Keep up the good work!
I loved many of the colors of the old P3 paint line. Still have some. Still use some. But I'm backing this kickstarter. Excited to see them back on the market!
You are video by video slowly changing the way i paint and practice painting on a daily basis. Im starting to feel confidence in my color theory understanding and am finally feeling comfortable with expanding into different ranges, this is one ill consider adding to the list.
Always enjoy your vids, they are detailed enough to be informative but with a great hint of comedy and honesty. TBH I got into the hobby through lore vids and was scared to get into the painting side, but started watching your vids and you helped me not be so afraid to commit paint to plastic on my ‘nids and salamanders. Keen to order some P3 for myself! All the love man and keep on truckin’
One of my LGS had a small selection of P3 Paints until recently. I grabbed a few and have to say I enjoyed using them. I have to fight to get them open, but a friend of mine says that's how you know it's air tight. Excited to see this range getting a revive.
I love trying new paints but yeah it is hard to get your hands on a lot of brands where I am so I have to order just a few and try them. It is great to get some information from videos like these.
I only have the Wurm green paint mostly for classic grass meadow bases on my deathwatch, and from when I've used it for models it was pretty great. it's good to see that when I run out I won't be out for ever!
I can't say I was a huge fan of p3 from years ago, but this video made me interested in how it changed. I jumped in on the kickstarter and was really happy to see that the smaller set actually had a proper selection of colors for mixing! Really excited to see how they turn out.
Couple of years ago I bought a full range of Scalecolor paints. Though I love it's matte finish, your vid about cleaning your paints showed me that the difficulty to work with wasn't just on me. Since, I've been looking for a new set. This one just might be it! AND paired with the chance to fit a new sick graphics card!? Boy what a day!
I have always loved p3 paint. I ordered buckets of it for backstock when PP started slowing down on production because I was afraid of them not continuing the line, so happy to support this Kickstarter.
I’ve been a big fan of P3 since I started painting. They were my first successful attempt at doing a bright poppy red. I’m glad to see the line back in action with such an outstanding review
This is wild, the old P3 paints were also my favourites, there was only one FLGS that I had found that stocked them back in the day so snapped them all up. So excited to see them back and updated. That graphics card is also so sexy, good luck to everyone!
I've actually struggled a bit with learning techniques like wet blending and feathering. I'm happy to hear this paint range is coming back, and I'm looking forward to trying it to help me improve.
I'm actually looking forward to P3. I just started painting and I don't have a wide range of paints so it arrives just at the right time cuz I need to get all the paints !
I had no idea you've only been in the painting minis hobby for around 7 years or so! Gives me hope that I can keep getting better at my painting and will get close to your level someday. I've been watching your videos for a while and I appreciate what you've done for the hobby!
Ive been taking a 2d art class for a year now, and am just getting to painting from other mediums. The single pigment paints my art teacher asks us to use have been great to work with on canvas and miniatures. The vibrancy of the resulting colors is difficult to beat when compared to many miniature lines. They are glossy however and need to be fixed with some matte varnish.
Interesting paint line. They remind me of the really old school citadel paints but modernised and improved. Keep up the great work Ninjon, your videos are always a pleasure to watch and always learn something new.
Thanks for testing these out and letting us know they're back! I only ever had a chance to buy one and didn't get a chance to blend like this, I'll have to grab a few of them in the old pots, of course. By the way- this purple should work nicely with your dark plum, shouldn't it?
I still have Citadel paint pots of the same design, bought by me, from my local store, decades ago. I seriously have to consider these P3's to carry on the hobby for a couple of decades, at least.
So happy to see they're back. It took me a long time to get all of my original P3's into dropper bottles, so very happy to see it is available in the new range!
I just got back into painting miniatures after a 14 year break and I bought a set if Vallejo paints, I heard they ae good too! I now want to try P3 though!
I'm excited to see P3 paints come back. I only owned 1 pot of P3 and I remember liking it. Don't know if I'll spend the money on a Kickstarter for them but if they hit my local stores I'll start picking them up again. Great video, looking forward to the next one!
Was looking forward to this rebirth of that paint range. Hope it will be much more easier to get a hand on it. Thanks for your insights. Now I have to head over to kickstarter…
This was helpful - thanks! And despite having many more paints that only see occasional use, I joined the KS campaign. It is useful to have these reviews. Thanks!
P3 Bloodstone makes a really great "rust" when you thin it down a bit and run it over some metallics. Solid results. I do like those paint pots, but honestly after a while the plastic on the lid tends to weaken and often breaks - the little "lip" at the opening and the hinge at the back are the biggest issues. And then getting the pots open sucks...

Thanks for all the content you are producing, you are one of the few people, who I have followed from their beginning on UA-cam. It is amazing to see how you developed as a painter, but always stayed true to yourself. Keep up the good work!
I have the old Cygnar paint set from P3 purchased in early 2000's. Paint is still usable and covers great.
Glad to hear the new stuff works better.
I love all your painting tutorials. they really inspire me to go out and improve my painting skills. thanks for all the tutorials!
The coverage and blending looks so good!
May have to have a look into them for my next project. Nice metallics are also a positive
New to the miniature painting scene and I've been binge watching your videos! Thank you for all the great explanations
Excellent! Always loved this range. Several of the colors were favourites. Thank you for the review.
This sounds pretty sweet, I've been curious about wet blending, but didn't want to mess with additives in paints.
I really am thinking about expanding my paint range and helped a bunch, thanks!
Looking good! I've pledged for the whole range after seeing this.
Been on a bit of a break from painting, but now it looks like I'm about to be back.
Ninjon, I have never used P3 paints but I am a fan of your Pro Acryl Series. I am intrigued of the comments you have made about P3 Paints. Thanks.
I'll definitely be looking to try these paints out. I like the versatility they bring to the table. 😊
I used P3 a lot as well, and I loved it. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new stuff works.
I’m getting back into painting after taking a few months off, I might have to try these paints out if any of my local hobby stores have them
really appreciate videos about different paints as someone new to the mini painting hobby :)
I still have Citadel paint pots of the same design, bought by me, from my local store, decades ago. I seriously have to consider these P3's to carry on the hobby for a couple of decades, at least.
Lucky guy but wheres that base acquired from bro its sure putting the other paints like citadel cracking as it drys occasionally!
This looks like great paint!!! Going to have to give it a go. What are the whites like? Not too pastle?
So happy to see they're back. It took me a long time to get all of my original P3's into dropper bottles, so very happy to see it is available in the new range!
As a somewhat mini painting newbie, this is helpful to point in the right direction for which paints I should actually pay attention to and buy!
I've been looking at expanding my paint range as I predominantly use pro acryl, definitely going to check out this Kickstarter!
This is amazing news!!! Brass balls is my favorite metallic, and gravedigger denim is such a great shade!
Gravedigger Denim for the win!
Great to see you energised over this! It's clear to see it's something you've been hoping for.
Thanks for the review. Currently in the market research phase of purchasing an entire paint range so this was timely.
Just getting into painting and airbrushing in particular. Loving this channel
Great video! I am curious about these paints, but was hesitant to buy them BEFORE this video.... now not so much, so thank you for a good review!
I'm a huge fan of pro-acryl and fanatic paints. I hope these are available in MN so I can grab a few as well.
Nice to see P3 return there's a few paints I've always really liked for weathering hopefully the Kickstarter goes well.
Was looking forward to this rebirth of that paint range. Hope it will be much more easier to get a hand on it. Thanks for your insights. Now I have to head over to kickstarter…
Looks great, but I'm wondering; How well does it thin with contrast mediums for slap chop esque techniques, and how well does it airbrush?
I still have a lot of P3 paints. I use them interchangeably alongside Two Thin Coats. Stoked I can buy replacements or new colors if I need to.
This was helpful - thanks! And despite having many more paints that only see occasional use, I joined the KS campaign. It is useful to have these reviews. Thanks!
This channel has helped me immensely with getting started in this hobby. I love this kind of content keep it coming!
the coverage is insane on the base, love the gradient. Gonna have to try it when i can. great vid Jon!!!!
Definitely looking at backing the kickatarter after seeing your breakdown. That coverage is insane. Cheers Ninjon! Great video mate!
I've just started this hobby and I am so excited! liking your content too!
When I started mini painting, I started with the P3 line of paints. Glad they are coming back!
