Creator of the Color Cube here! 👋
Thank you so much for this amazing video.i had an influx of sales over the weekend and didn’t know why, until one of your amazing fans left me a comment and mentioned your video.
I’ve been curious about seeing the Color Cube used for miniatures, but haven’t seen anyone use it until now. I loved the results! All of your extra tips were amazing.
I’ll be sharing your video with my audience too- and please reach out about becoming an affiliate so your fans can support you while purchasing😊

Alright. I'll admit it. I was ready to be an asshole. In my mind, I was ready to write off this product and video completely. And, I was wrong.
I have a huge love of colors. I love them so much. I think of color schemes in my free time. I have spend hundreds of hours of my life looking into things like the advanced mechanisms of color theory and physics, looking into color inspirations, etc. Colors are my greatest strength. And like, even then, I have thousands of pictures saved that I have swatched myself. I have no less than three add ons for my browser that can get color info on any page or image I'm looking at.
And like, thats so much work! Why *wouldn't* someone need a faster and more efficient way to understand color and how it looks? Thats so smart and practical. It gives so much knowledge so quickly. And its accessible! Just because I am a color fanatic who can think of these things, doesn't mean that I don't basically do this exact thing the hard way all the time.
I'm sure this product was made out of the same love of colors and beautiful schemes that I have. And on that merit, I will probably be buying it.
      Thanks for making it :)

Love the idea behind the color cubes, and the end model looks awesome. I'd love to see this become a series where you take a model from your pile of shame, generate a random number, and then paint it using the scheme from that color cube card - I think watching you work through those challenges could be really interesting.

I was just about to suggest the same thing! I really enjoyed the 3 colour roulette video and have been wishing for something like it again. Pick a random model from the pile of shame and a random colour scheme from the cubes and see what you can do with it :D Bonus points if the model is a big vehicle.

And it was used a lot in medieval time also. In chivalry time there was a lot of dueling rules and a good one was that when the weather was very hot, your opponent would be sweating a lot so you could help him by gently rubbing their face with your shield.

    • @graefx
      @graefx 7 місяців тому +9

We did that in paint ball. Hang a towel from your belt and if a paint ball hit it, it wouldn't burst and didn't count as being a hit. Also you didn't get hit in the nuts.

Shield "towels" were used to hide the legs while the shield protected the mid and upper body. They would hide the bearers stance so their opponent couldn't tell their movement intentions, also they would cause arrows to be snagged.

Great video Jon!! This same concept is why I started the 4 color challenge! I’ve had so many community members report back about how a limited palette can inspire so much flexibility in a paint job, and you have built in harmony since any blends you create will be in the same families. As a neat side effect, the 4 color challenge has become a really exciting stream segment!

I'm fairly sure that you can find similar solutions with color swatches via free apps or browser, but I do enjoy the restrictions of it being a physical product. Both for the limited options but also cause you can see how the colors react to your lights. Apps and such often have a good idea at the center but have to cram in so many other features and options that it just paralyses me with choices. Not sure how much I'd actually use this product but I really like it. Also love that the color-codes are on the back!

You should have set up an affiliate account with them.. I would have never known I wanted this, but it checks both my mini painting boxes and my wife's interior decorating box. It's quite affordable too.

Thank you for making this video. The mini turned out great with this color combo! I have been eyeballing these color cubes for a while, wondering if they're worth getting, and I think you just sold me on them 😅

This would be a fun way to play a game with your painterly friends.
Pick a card at random, then give it to them. They have to come back in a week or a month with a painted mini using only those colors

Neat idea. When I show old friend I was trying to drag back into mini wargaming, I showed him one of your videos first.
He’s first comment was that guy has no clue about the colour wheel. …
    And now I owe him $5 bucks….
    Thanks…
    Long time fan.

Amazing scheme, thanks for showing it, Having options is not bad if You don't sink on them and You didn't Sunk on the Cube, You Used as a New tool and went full on gears, that created something Great! so thanks Again!

Excellent video! Definitely one of the most overlooked time sinks in mini painting is color selection, and also something that causes disappointment (when you don't do a test model and don't have a jiving scheme).

I really dig this idea.. I went to the local hardware store and the paint department, and picked up tha cards there, kinda the same idea.. but this is is even better so I went ahead and got them. THANKS for the cool tip. As for my Signature colors, it is PINKS PURPLS, and ORANGES, with Teal blue greens.

I love my cube cards, and I'm sure they'll help you a lot. Absolutely love your signature colors!! With the cubes, you can grab a variety of cards with some of your sigs and come up with even more great combos. Good luck!

I find extreme value in this sort of thing. Color harmonies are sort of hard to grasp, but this feels like a real wealth of value broken down into a digestable way...its almost like a course in color theory but in like... well like math cards but its paint swatches. My imagination is like a turned over kickstart motorcycle. Takes a lot of effort to get it off the ground, and even then you gotta bloody beat the bastard before it even tries to turn over. To be 100% honest, you do not need to acquire these. You can open up open source documents with images from designers with a similar sort of taste and understanding and eye droper them over as reference material...it may even be 100% legal as its education purposes. Fair use. That said, your display settings/ color accuracy probably isn't near as accurate.

Very cool! I might pick these up at some point. I at least need a color wheel that shows color harmonies.

I have these and love them, especially because color choices are tough for me, too (even when I was using a color wheel before these cards). When you do start trying some new schemes, being able to see a real-life object using that scheme should also help give you confidence with the choices you make. But hey, worst case, repaint! Good luck! :-)

Great job! Using color swatches is a nice idea!
I've painted Darkoath warband from Warcry using limited palette of colors, but playing around with different skintones. That was only detour from my limited palette of half a dozen colors. They turned out nicely (at least for my skill level)!

Love the color scheme and idea. You can find similar catalogs that are free at your builder supply big box store. Not as many color schemes in those catalogs but also not a place I'd ever considered looking for a miniature color scheme. Thanks for the great video and the 80s chia pet commercial.
