This was wonderful. I was always wondering how to slice wedding cakes so well, and I didn't know that the bride and groom kept the top cake for the 1 year anniversary. We ate ours the day after Lol
A+! My mom did cakes for a living. So I have cut more wedding and celebration cakes than I can remember. She always opted for an option that was kind of a hybrid between the circle and square cuts. I am so glad you shared this because so many people just don't know how to even cut a sheet cake properly to serve the right amount of people. To this day I always volunteer to cut the cake for people if I am at some sort of party or event. Always good to keep sharp on your skills. LOL!
Now this was a very informational video I never knew there was a method to go by when cutting cakes!! Thanks for sharing and as always girl your the bomb!!!
Where were you/this video, when me and my friend was cutting a wedding cake last summer?! Thank you for sharing this, now I know how to cut the cake next time.
Thanks so much for this! Will be serving my friend’s wedding cake at the reception in a month and want to do it just right. This looks the easiest and most uniform
Thank you so much for this visual tutorial, I had seen photos of this method but never figured out how it was to be executed. Thanks so much Gretchen! :) You're the best!!
thank you so much. I wish to become a pastry chef and I am finally doing my first wedding cake. to say the least it's a bit scary but I know I can do it thank to you!!!! :)
Great video. Cutting does deem very daunting. I had never seen it done before. I am always looking to learn a new skill. Eventually my husband and I will have a real wedding. I'm planning to do my own cake and most everything else. ( I'm an extremely crafty, creative, ambishious, control freak 😉)Thanks for your great videos!
Ha you just helped me so much! I want to have at least 200 people at my future wedding, if possible, so now I know just how many tiers of a cake I should have!
O my that's a beautiful cake, the pink inside looks delicious, plus I had no idea there was a method to cutting the cake, I thought it was just cut birthday cake style
I have always wondered how to keep the tiers frosting from pulling off when unstacking. Now I know. Use parchment paper between them. Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Stunning really!!I learnt a lot from u can u plz tell me which type of cake sponge better for wedding cake but it should be soft plz tell n gimme ur recipie if possible reply asp plz want to bake for my niece wedding dinner s cake
Gretchen's Bakery oh lucky neighbor, question I'm making a 2tier cake the bottom is 9inches but I'm lost on wat the 2nd tier should b, should it be 5 or 6 inches, thanks in advance
i wondered how they get so many slices out of some small wedding cakes- the smaller cakes are popular now i guess..and wondered how ya serve so many LOL great .thanks
Is that a special type of cake knife? I am wondering because I have seen many other videos where frosting sticks to the blade and makes a hot mess out of the guest slices. Or is it that fondant simply cuts cleaner?
I actually wouldn't recommend freezing a cake for a year. Freezer burned cake is not what's up. Gretchen stated in her previous wedding cake video that she would just bake a cake for the couple a year later. Much better idea, I think.
+Gretchen's Bakery LOL I'm fully aware of the tradition. I also remember the faces some of my cousins made when they bit into their year old cake. Hilarious though they didn't think so at the time. Anyway, for my one year anniversary, I'm making our own cake since my husband and I eloped in Las Vegas last August.
ive never done it either (I never got married LOL) but its tradition to save the top tier- I suppose it will test the strength of that marriage to eat a stale cake together LOL
While it is easier to cut a slightly colder cake, if a wedding cake has been sitting out at a reception for hours and hours, The cake will most likely not be cold at all. This is not an issue though, as people have been slicing wedding cakes for ages.
It used to be easier when wedding cakes were those heavy-duty British fruit cakes, which don't need freezing. Friends of mine mailed a slice of their wedding cake home to Britain from Australia.
Have you done any gluten free recipes? I think it would be so cool to start a building on recipes gluten free style. Educate on different types of flours, why and how. Converting a refular recipe to gluten free. Gluten free from a box is awful but home made can be amazing. I think there is a whole subscriber group calling your name. So many people are intolerant or just giving it up for a healthier lifestyle, they might quickly be able to make 1million and beyond. We are many!
I'm certainly on the hunt for a gluten free cake recipe. Also...I was blown away that you didn't use a center dowel for support. What keeps you tiers from sliding during transport? Thanks!
Everyone needs salvation here are the words of salvation please forgive me jesus im a sinner come into my heart and save me from my sin I no that you are the savior and I no that God raise you from the dead and you are alive and I thankyou for your salvation in Jesus holy name amen and its important to always ask for forgiveness every night so your always right standing with the lord please give these words to someone
Most guests are pretty thankful for that! They've been stuffing themselves on all sorts of goodies and will keep doing that. A bigger slice might fill some people up to the brim, so they have to say no to other treats, they'd otherwise would have loved to sample. But if it makes you uncomfortable, you can give each guest more. Or have thicker and thinner portions, so they can choose ;)

How cold should the cake be? What if its room temperature
While it is easier to cut a slightly colder cake, if a wedding cake has been sitting out at a reception for hours and hours, The cake will most likely not be cold at all.
This is not an issue though, as people have been slicing wedding cakes for ages.
This is the first time I've seen someone using parchment paper between each tier. Could you share the reason for using it? Thanks and love all you do!
yes sure I talk all about it here in this video and blog post www.gretchensbakery.com/how-to-make-a-wedding-cake/
Now i finally know, thanks! :)
very interesting. I actually didn't know that the newlyweds are supposed to freeze the cake until their one year anniversary
Me too!!!😁
It used to be easier when wedding cakes were those heavy-duty British fruit cakes, which don't need freezing. Friends of mine mailed a slice of their wedding cake home to Britain from Australia.
Yeah a lot of people don't know that. I didn't either until about a few years back. I think that's such a beautiful thing 😊

I feel its rude to give a guest a paper thin portion
Most guests are pretty thankful for that! They've been stuffing themselves on all sorts of goodies and will keep doing that. A bigger slice might fill some people up to the brim, so they have to say no to other treats, they'd otherwise would have loved to sample.
