Nice! My first fox was 1982 back in 2013 I still have the TRX wheels. Now I’m on my 5th foxbody. My wife and kids just don’t get it. Fox life. Thanks to channels like this I get to nerd out on fox bodies. I would put 17 inch TRX wheels on it.
That is a beautiful example of an 82. My 82 Fox GT memory was limited to about 10 minutes of a test drive in May 1982 when I was 18. I did drop the clutch with the salesman in the right seat, and am surprised it lasted that long. I haven’t seen an 82 for quite a while and later model Foxes aren’t seen on the road as much any more. I did buy a new LX 5.0/5-speed ten years later. The SROD - I had heard comments here and there about them being fairly durable despite basically being a 3-speed with manual overdrive. Had one in an F100 work truck for a while and it got fairly abused but would not break.
I own my 82 GT that my parents bought new. Have the original trx rims. But I have the 87 GT syclone rims on it. Mine is a factory sunroof car not a t top. And it's black but has the maroon interior with an 87 T5 as well as a Ford motorsport 140 mph Speedo. Holly 600, edelbrock intake, 289 ho cam bored 40 over and early 70s heads. Truly the best nose of the foxbody. Nobody can offer me enough to get rid of it. I'll be buried in mine
That is one FINE ride. My first new car was a 1987 5.0, and I had that for 13 years and 140k miles. Similar style of mods (small cam, rear discs, long tubes). The lady we sold it to drive for another 10 years - at least. This story just made me smile. Thank you for sharing!
Im 20 and bought me an 82! Same car, T top, double exhaust,black, etc.. got it for $1000 from an old family friend, tho it took me a year to talk him out of it😅. a little rough in the interior but runs and drives like a dream! Is my first car i buy with my own money and i honestly just love it! I hope i get to keep it as long as him!
I had an 84 Gt 5 speed with t-tops back in 91-92 when I was stationed in Germany in the Army. Wish I had hung on to it. It's still in Germany somewhere. Today I have a 2018 GT 6 speed with all the right mods. I had a 94 GT convertible too. The difference between all 3 is incredible. I'm probably going to hold on to this S550 though. Something tells me these are going to be in demand one day like the 66-68 fastbacks are today.
nice my 1979 mercury Capri has the Michelin TRX wheels. the 390 is a metric wheel its 390 mm wide. that's why only one tire fits that TRX rim. Hopefully bring my 1979 Capri up next year.

I've settled down a bit but my car was always built to run and if it breaks you fix it but I'm always down to use the line lock do burnouts and some donuts and if it breaks we fix it
Gorgeous 82 GT, my car looks exactly the same save for the T tops and the wheels, I have 93 Cobra replica wheels on mine, definitely one of the best looking Fox Bodies. I love all Fox Bodies, 4 eye or aeros, both desings are super cool cars
I always thought I'd end up with an aero nose... 83 glx rag top 5.0 5 spd. Not sure how that happened. Now 85 86 is my fave. Now. What did I learn. I love ragtops. And I did get a new top and re did the weatherstripping. But man, t tops are so much easier to live with in terms of care and stuff like window adjustment.
Very cool, an original owner car. Funny you mentioned the TRX wheels and tires. I had a 83 GT and replacement tires were so expensive I ended up trading car in rather then paying an arm and a leg for new tires. The dumb things we do when we're young.
Damn, nice one! I have this same car, it's actually my 4th 82 GT with T-tops. The 82 GT was my first car back in 1985, Maroon T-top 4 speed with roller rocker arms and Holley 650 4bbl and an Edelbrock aluminum intake, I was just 15 and my mom wouldn't let me drive it until I got my license. lol One hot ass AL summer day, while my mom was at work, I fired the her up and took her for a spin! Well, being a young inexperienced driver, I forgot to check the fuel level and ran out of gas about 1/4 mile from the house. Stuck on an old blacktop road, I had to push that damn car back home with no shoes on, just wearing some cutoffs. I had to get the car back before momma came home and killed me! lol I try and push my car now and have no idea how I did that. lol I guess a Mommas ass whoopin motivates the hell outta kids though, right!? Good times! The second 82GT I owned burned to the ground after I tried racing a kid from high school and when I revved the motor my motor mount was broken and it made the top radiator hose pop off spraying water all over my distributor making my engine bog down and run for shit. (Humiliated me in front of my class mate who was thinking he could beat me in his 83 GLX with a 6 cyl LOL) I pimped the car over to my dads insurance office about 2 miles away and parked it with the hood up so it could dry, then I was gonna fill the radiator back up and put the hose back on a drive home to fix it. Well, about 5 minutes later a guy bangs on the back door of my pops office saying "Hey man, a car's ON FIRE OUT HERE!" I look out the door and flames are licking the inside windshield! I grabbed the fire extinguisher off the wall and ran out to my car, I grabbed the door handle to lift it and burned the tips of all four fingers, badly!! (bubble blisters) That car burned so fast that the fire dept. who was there within a minute, as they were just across the street, couldn't save my 82 T-top. It got so damn hot that the back glass bubbled out about 6 inches from the heat and air pressure.Think Capri hatch lol Turns out the water from the radiator hose blew back into the firewall shorting out some naked wires on a radio I had just crudely installed about a week or so earlier. Total loss! My dad had a black 82 GLX with T-tops and my sister had a shitty 4cyl. 79 notch, white with blue interior and spoked hubcaps. I have a black 82 T-top now and an 86 GT convertible, factory black both. I wish more "fox body" vids would show these four eyed cars as they are rarely featured. Love the channel and appreciate you sharing fox body knowledge as you learn yourself! Keep up the hard work Matt because many of us out here really appreciate it, pal!

Wanted an 86GT vert but was to late in the year to order what I wanted, so I ended up ordering an 87. Still have it. Damn should have videoed myself last week, just finished doing a heater core and evaporator on the 87.

My parents had an 82 in just as good of condition and exactly the same as Kim’s except the back window had the cage over it. I have the car now and it use to be my daily driver after I brought it back to life and then I discovered alcohol. I’m paying for it now. Just bought an 82 GT parts car to replace the front end to repair a fender bender. Just started on it today. My kids are 5 and 3 and they look at it the same way I did when I was 5 and couldn’t wait to be old enough to drive it. Use to sit in it for hours in the driveway and pretend to drive it. I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from damaging it.

I have an 82 GT with a single exhaust. I've been trying to get information on what parts I would need to upgrade it a dual exhaust. My rear main seal is leaking, so now would be the best time to upgrade the exhaust system since the engine will be pulled out. Any information would help. Thank you.
@acjmarial you will need the transmission crossmember with a dual hump from a 87-93 gt and an X pipe and exhaust hangers from a 87-93 gt. I bought the exhaust hangers from LMR

I have an 84 LX Droptop 5.0 auto .. I need a plan for it as it is all stock CFI and EFI .. I need a distributor or mine rebuilt or something like His 82 setup , move to 4Bl carb and keep auto trans as it just needs seals front and rear .. move to dual exhaust .. It dose run but it will lose total power going down the road after maybe 15mins or so .. will restart while still rolling (shift to n) thinking stator as EFI was replaced already . Also have this 2001 GT Deluxe Droptop .. I get ask about it a lot because I left it stock looking and New Edge has it's fans . I had 4:10's added ( ford racing) auto but I am going put it back 3:27 to 3:55 if you have a rear end laying around as those 4:10 have about 15,000 on them .. better to leave the gears in that rear as a Rock Crawler spec list put them in , ua-cam.com/video/t2XAJShAnX8/v-deo.html
I hope you get the 84 figured out. I think you'll like 3.55's a lot more. I feel like that's the right blend of quick take off while keeping some highway drivability. I'm not a big New Edge fan myself, but they definitely have a following for sure.

A 4 eye Foxbody tune up: 1. Replace the horrible TRX tires. 2. Replace the 4 speed with a 5 or 6 speed. 3. Add a panhard bar. 4. Upgrade to 5 lug 4 wheel disc brakes.
I had two 5.0 Pace Cars from 1987 to 1991 and I absolutely HATED the TRX tires! I went through the brakes in the first Pace Car including replacing the proportioning valve and in a panic stop any one of the 4 tires could lock up. 1989 I bought a set of new take off 1989 Mustang GT wheels and tires from Kenny Brown and it was a huge improvement.
Beautiful 82 GT. Not a fan of those rims though. Makes the car look cheap. I’d get a set of trx repros. Sounds just like my old 84 GT with Holley 4bbl, edelbrock intake, bbk long tubes and flowmaster 40s. I also did the 8.8 rear but with 3.73s. Fast fun and dead nuts reliable. I miss that car.
Beautiful '82. My first car that I bought at 16 was an '82 GT. Had to sell it when I went to college because I couldn't afford to put gas in it, that was back in 1991. lol. I found one a couple of years ago and bought it and am in the process of restoring some things on it. I need to replace the dash pad and bought one off of LMR. I can't get it to fit correctly so probably have to scrap it. You mentioned replacing the one in this car, curious as to which one and where did you find one that fits?
Hey that's cool that you're going to rebuild the t5 , there's a Ford performance kit that you can rebuild it with that will make it a little stronger for 400 to 500 bucks on Sumit or Ebay. You got me curious about the engine that you pointed at that u said that you haven't let the cat out of the bag yet so u got me curious, what are you going to do with it? 347😁? Supercharger 😁? U can't leave a cliffhanger without at least letting me know 😂 You're going to have to make Tar heel fox a beast I was listening in the the live lastnite where they were saying that convertibles aren't really desirable and I saw that u had chimed in a couple times during the live so I was thinking that it would be really cool if u created a beast that would outrun the car on that channel with Tar heel now that would make my day right there being the vert wasn't getting any love . But yeah I was thinking that while that was being said lastnite that that would be awesome if u came back with something that would eat that car for lunch 😁 but yeah man that is a very nice car u had on the channel I wish I would have kept the 84 t top I had a while back, it was in good shape. @@GearHead704 I like your 331 vert its badass, I had a 92 vert a few years ago that I built a very strong 306 for it and could spin in 3rd gear going 35 or so and it was fun and I got to missing it which is what started this build but I'm about to watch your video and I'm guessing that you are fixing to do the 306 swap now let's see if I'm right and oh yeah my 92 vert lx was a 4 to 8 cylinder build as well that 2.3 just wasn't cutting it 😁🚗💨
Just bought my uncles 82 GT that I've always loved since I was a kid in the 80's. He finally sold it to me. I would love to replicate the upgrades to my exhaust system like the Fox you have featured on this video that I've watched around ten times. Would you possibly be able to give me a product list of parts that I would need to to this? My car has a double exhaust that is only on the drivers side. I'm still learning about all this and appreciate any information. Thanks!
I've never converted a car that didn't originally have dual exhaust. You'll probably need to source some hangers and such. I recommend calling Summit Racing or one of the big companies like that to try and get the right parts you need. I don't know if they would have it or not, but I've always like Steeda. Alternatively you could always order the headers, h-pipe, and cat back and just take to a local muffler shop and have them put everything on for you.
Does this 82 in this video have a stock 4-barrel carborator from a 85 mustang? and also if it has a cat back on the exhaust system. I am trying to use this video as an example of the upgrades i want to do to my 82. Thank you for your help.@@GearHead704
Is it for sale? That was my first sports car. Mine had a roll cage in it. It had motor modifications and was really fast. It ran in the low 14''s. I am looking for that same car . I will pay you cash money for it.
I bought a burgandy/Recaro gut '82 that I planned to keep forever but it was a piece of junk and rotted out by mid-90s. Ford had put a fuckin' Pinto rear under it, heater core went out in a year, trans. probs. I babied it too washed under/over constant, just one of those Monday built POS. TRX were 15.5 inch. 390 divide by 25. Not a bad size but should have just designed a 16.
@@GearHead704 yes, a 6.5" non posi. It of course broke. It was a strange one. No GT badges, just stickers. I thought maybe it was designed for Hertz or rental market but all those had the 255cid and auto. trans. Oh well. Ford lost a customer for life. I never bought another new one from them as much as I liked their trucks and some cars.

Yeah, the convertibles are great, but a lot of hard work to get right. I do prefer the 85/86 nose over the older 4 eyes.

Damn, nice one! I have this same car, it's actually my 4th 82 GT with T-tops. The 82 GT was my first car back in 1985, Maroon T-top 4 speed with roller rocker arms and Holley 650 4bbl and an Edelbrock aluminum intake, I was just 15 and my mom wouldn't let me drive it until I got my license. lol One hot ass AL summer day, while my mom was at work, I fired the her up and took her for a spin! Well, being a young inexperienced driver, I forgot to check the fuel level and ran out of gas about 1/4 mile from the house. Stuck on an old blacktop road, I had to push that damn car back home with no shoes on, just wearing some cutoffs. I had to get the car back before momma came home and killed me! lol I try and push my car now and have no idea how I did that. lol I guess a Mommas ass whoopin motivates the hell outta kids though, right!? Good times!
The second 82GT I owned burned to the ground after I tried racing a kid from high school and when I revved the motor my motor mount was broken and it made the top radiator hose pop off spraying water all over my distributor making my engine bog down and run for shit. (Humiliated me in front of my class mate who was thinking he could beat me in his 83 GLX with a 6 cyl LOL) I pimped the car over to my dads insurance office about 2 miles away and parked it with the hood up so it could dry, then I was gonna fill the radiator back up and put the hose back on a drive home to fix it.
Well, about 5 minutes later a guy bangs on the back door of my pops office saying "Hey man, a car's ON FIRE OUT HERE!" I look out the door and flames are licking the inside windshield! I grabbed the fire extinguisher off the wall and ran out to my car, I grabbed the door handle to lift it and burned the tips of all four fingers, badly!! (bubble blisters) That car burned so fast that the fire dept. who was there within a minute, as they were just across the street, couldn't save my 82 T-top. It got so damn hot that the back glass bubbled out about 6 inches from the heat and air pressure.Think Capri hatch lol
Turns out the water from the radiator hose blew back into the firewall shorting out some naked wires on a radio I had just crudely installed about a week or so earlier. Total loss!
My dad had a black 82 GLX with T-tops and my sister had a shitty 4cyl. 79 notch, white with blue interior and spoked hubcaps. I have a black 82 T-top now and an 86 GT convertible, factory black both. I wish more "fox body" vids would show these four eyed cars as they are rarely featured. Love the channel and appreciate you sharing fox body knowledge as you learn yourself! Keep up the hard work Matt because many of us out here really appreciate it, pal!

Wanted an 86GT vert but was to late in the year to order what I wanted, so I ended up ordering an 87. Still have it. Damn should have videoed myself last week, just finished doing a heater core and evaporator on the 87.
Not a bad situation to be in LOL, I still like the aero more, but I like the 4 eye very much more than I used to.

My parents had an 82 in just as good of condition and exactly the same as Kim’s except the back window had the cage over it. I have the car now and it use to be my daily driver after I brought it back to life and then I discovered alcohol. I’m paying for it now. Just bought an 82 GT parts car to replace the front end to repair a fender bender. Just started on it today. My kids are 5 and 3 and they look at it the same way I did when I was 5 and couldn’t wait to be old enough to drive it. Use to sit in it for hours in the driveway and pretend to drive it. I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from damaging it.

I have an 82 GT with a single exhaust. I've been trying to get information on what parts I would need to upgrade it a dual exhaust. My rear main seal is leaking, so now would be the best time to upgrade the exhaust system since the engine will be pulled out. Any information would help. Thank you.
@acjmarial you will need the transmission crossmember with a dual hump from a 87-93 gt and an X pipe and exhaust hangers from a 87-93 gt. I bought the exhaust hangers from LMR

I have an 84 LX Droptop 5.0 auto .. I need a plan for it as it is all stock CFI and EFI .. I need a distributor or mine rebuilt or something like His 82 setup , move to 4Bl carb and keep auto trans as it just needs seals front and rear .. move to dual exhaust .. It dose run but it will lose total power going down the road after maybe 15mins or so .. will restart while still rolling (shift to n) thinking stator as EFI was replaced already .
Also have this 2001 GT Deluxe Droptop .. I get ask about it a lot because I left it stock looking and New Edge has it's fans . I had 4:10's added ( ford racing) auto but I am going put it back 3:27 to 3:55 if you have a rear end laying around as those 4:10 have about 15,000 on them .. better to leave the gears in that rear as a Rock Crawler spec list put them in , ua-cam.com/video/t2XAJShAnX8/v-deo.html
I hope you get the 84 figured out. I think you'll like 3.55's a lot more. I feel like that's the right blend of quick take off while keeping some highway drivability. I'm not a big New Edge fan myself, but they definitely have a following for sure.

A 4 eye Foxbody tune up:
1. Replace the horrible TRX tires.
2. Replace the 4 speed with a 5 or 6 speed.
3. Add a panhard bar.
4. Upgrade to 5 lug 4 wheel disc brakes.
Not a bad list. Lot of 4 lug options now though, so don't have to go 5 lug anymore like you used to.
I had two 5.0 Pace Cars from 1987 to 1991 and I absolutely HATED the TRX tires! I went through the brakes in the first Pace Car including replacing the proportioning valve and in a panic stop any one of the 4 tires could lock up. 1989 I bought a set of new take off 1989 Mustang GT wheels and tires from Kenny Brown and it was a huge improvement.

Sounds just like my old 84 GT with Holley 4bbl, edelbrock intake, bbk long tubes and flowmaster 40s. I also did the 8.8 rear but with 3.73s.
Fast fun and dead nuts reliable. I miss that car.

Beautiful '82. My first car that I bought at 16 was an '82 GT. Had to sell it when I went to college because I couldn't afford to put gas in it, that was back in 1991. lol. I found one a couple of years ago and bought it and am in the process of restoring some things on it. I need to replace the dash pad and bought one off of LMR. I can't get it to fit correctly so probably have to scrap it. You mentioned replacing the one in this car, curious as to which one and where did you find one that fits?

Hey that's cool that you're going to rebuild the t5 , there's a Ford performance kit that you can rebuild it with that will make it a little stronger for 400 to 500 bucks on Sumit or Ebay. You got me curious about the engine that you pointed at that u said that you haven't let the cat out of the bag yet so u got me curious, what are you going to do with it? 347😁? Supercharger 😁? U can't leave a cliffhanger without at least letting me know 😂 You're going to have to make Tar heel fox a beast I was listening in the the live lastnite where they were saying that convertibles aren't really desirable and I saw that u had chimed in a couple times during the live so I was thinking that it would be really cool if u created a beast that would outrun the car on that channel with Tar heel now that would make my day right there being the vert wasn't getting any love . But yeah I was thinking that while that was being said lastnite that that would be awesome if u came back with something that would eat that car for lunch 😁 but yeah man that is a very nice car u had on the channel I wish I would have kept the 84 t top I had a while back, it was in good shape. @@GearHead704 I like your 331 vert its badass, I had a 92 vert a few years ago that I built a very strong 306 for it and could spin in 3rd gear going 35 or so and it was fun and I got to missing it which is what started this build but I'm about to watch your video and I'm guessing that you are fixing to do the 306 swap now let's see if I'm right and oh yeah my 92 vert lx was a 4 to 8 cylinder build as well that 2.3 just wasn't cutting it 😁🚗💨

Just bought my uncles 82 GT that I've always loved since I was a kid in the 80's. He finally sold it to me. I would love to replicate the upgrades to my exhaust system like the Fox you have featured on this video that I've watched around ten times. Would you possibly be able to give me a product list of parts that I would need to to this? My car has a double exhaust that is only on the drivers side. I'm still learning about all this and appreciate any information. Thanks!
I've never converted a car that didn't originally have dual exhaust. You'll probably need to source some hangers and such. I recommend calling Summit Racing or one of the big companies like that to try and get the right parts you need. I don't know if they would have it or not, but I've always like Steeda. Alternatively you could always order the headers, h-pipe, and cat back and just take to a local muffler shop and have them put everything on for you.
Does this 82 in this video have a stock 4-barrel carborator from a 85 mustang? and also if it has a cat back on the exhaust system. I am trying to use this video as an example of the upgrades i want to do to my 82. Thank you for your help.@@GearHead704

I bought a burgandy/Recaro gut '82 that I planned to keep forever but it was a piece of junk and rotted out by mid-90s. Ford had put a fuckin' Pinto rear under it, heater core went out in a year, trans. probs. I babied it too washed under/over constant, just one of those Monday built POS. TRX were 15.5 inch. 390 divide by 25. Not a bad size but should have just designed a 16.

@@GearHead704 yes, a 6.5" non posi. It of course broke. It was a strange one. No GT badges, just stickers. I thought maybe it was designed for Hertz or rental market but all those had the 255cid and auto. trans. Oh well. Ford lost a customer for life. I never bought another new one from them as much as I liked their trucks and some cars.

Need to put the 17" tri-bar LMR wheels on it to mimic the TRX.
It's cool that he still has the original TRX as well, but I think the Borbet's fit the time period he modified the car in. Kind of period correct.
