you nailed it! First things I did to my Fox as a teenager in the 90's: 1. 10 minute tuneup & gutted stock h-pipe 2. weld in MAC mufflers 3. underdrive pulleys 4. MAC headers 5. 3.73 gears
You absolutely need to get yourself a 87 or 88 T-bird to relive your old days and build it how you really wanted to build it, and it would be bad A, like Adams T-yote
I must say the first thing I did after purchasing it in December of 1988 was put a computer chip in for performance. K&N Filter. Underdrive pulleys. Ram air kit with a chin scoop. Full salleen suspension kit with subframe connectors g-load brace strut Tower brace. And soon after a 4-point roll bar. More aggressive wheels and tires.
We would use the aluminum space saver rims on the front, short belt, take off the sway bar, I'm older so I remember we all thought the fuel injection cars were the end of the performance cars, my first fox was a 84 RS Capri I bought in 85 for $8000 with 27K on it. they didn't even make good heads back then, you ported everything, people would laugh at you if you had a performance Ford, but that changed fast after the Foxbodys took off
Bought my first one in high school off a older women (stock) back in 2003-2004. My first things were exhaust(flows), off road H pipe and cool air (BBK)
Sometimes I wish I never did the 5 lug swap so I could keep the welds I had on my car when I bought it, but hell yeah now is the best time with everything available to us!
That whole list, plus gears and sub frame connectors.. we called that the starter kit. When we'd look in the classified ads for cars, we'd say, car has the starter kit. And if it was missing one or two, we'd say minus (insert mod). Great times! Being a broke teen and early 20s kid
In Canada now in 2023 BC. No emissions testing ☺ Remove ... Cats EGR Smog pump and all included plumbing A/C ( it was a one owner AOD car) cleaned up the underhand a lot!
There is no better sound than a 5.0 with flowmasters especially if it's manual as we say in the south when u getting down on that mfr snatching 2nd and 3rd ain't no feeling like it😮😊
MAC headers. Hedman H pipe. Force II Cat back. Motorsport 65 TB. C&L mass air. BBK pressure regulator. And to top it off a NOVI 1000. Made 285 rear wheel hp. 🤣. Best mod was the 5 speed swap. Hands down.
Great video brings back a lot of memories! Had to throw in one more though the short belt that made a pretty big difference without the power steering hooked up just had to muscle that steering wheel around unless you are on some skinnys up front then it wasn't bad at all...🦊💯🏁
Currently 23 with first fox. 83 bubble back capri 9” factory location rear end with 430s a 351 with xe274h flat tappet old rhs heads Holley street dominator. And a built t5 on draglites
You must be about the same age as me… I graduated high school in 1995…I did all of those mods back in the day… #1 should have been gears… weld wheels were popular, but man it was a big deal back then to upgrade to the 16” pony wheels from the turbine wheels
silencer delete-FREE, timing bump til it pinged, then back it down a degree (mine went to 18*)- FREE, Drill out the TPS and set to .99v- FREE, gutted all 4 cats- FREE, short belt- $20, synthetic fluids in engine, trans, diff- a couple of hundies, underdrive pulley set, hurst shifter (non-billet stamped steel) $95, 3.55 gears $500 installed. Then, I made mistake of cracking the engine open (full systemax heads, cam, intake) and it was like CRACK after that!
No kidding! Still trying to run the HVAC Box. I'm guessing Brake Boost and the HVAC may be it. Bro - I Loved this Flashback. I got my 89 Vert back in 91 and I kept it stock and I'm going thru it now - Bringing her Back around. Was hoping to meet you n Brewty in DFW this year but my OCD kicked in and I've dug in deeper. She will be nice when I am done with her and am looking forward to hookin up w you fellas then. Really appreciate your time and content us old fox guys can understand this video well. Btw.. really appreciated your input on coaching these guys up what to look for when buying an old fox without getting ripped off - I was aggravated right along w you man! Hate for that cat who got took. Keep up the good stuff man!
Did you or one of your friends ever aquire a mustang back in the day that no matter what you did to it it was always slower than everybody else's mustang ? I mean by alot ??? I've seen them every now and then ..

I picked up a little 5.0 lx vert for my daughter. Her first mod is going to be 373’s.

Excellent video Caleb! Definitely good mods for back in the day that didn't empty the wallet... My first Fox was a 1987 Mustang LX...
My first fox was a 1980 merc Capri 2.3 with a four speed.
Great top 5 list #6 you know you had to drop a 3.73 or 4.10s next!!!
So many parts available for anything you want to do since then. Such a beautiful and iconic car if you can get ahold of one in decent shape.
First one i did was gears
I just put a set of Drag Lites on my coupe. I love old school Foxbody mods.
Definitely a good list and yes we all did those mods!
The good old days!
Each mod didn’t move mountains, but a half dozen, added up nicely.

Great video! OG is where it’s at Caleb!
Hey y'all. From the Northwest. As a original 89 Fox Body Mustang convertible owner ...
Love the old mustang ad 😅
Sometimes I wish I never did the 5 lug swap so I could keep the welds I had on my car when I bought it, but hell yeah now is the best time with everything available to us!
Definitely a great list! Did all of them and would do it again .
Love the throwback videos! The retro commercials at the beginning really make you miss how cool things really were.🐺👍
I bought a b&m ripper shifter right before the pro 5.0 shifter came out… still in the car to this day
I had a ripper as well!
"Have you driven a Ford lately?"
Yep, and I remembered why mine stays parked more often than not lol. Gotta keep the ol girl though.

I've had 7 mustangs 5.0's ..I have a 93 LX now with a 331 KUNTZ motor..

cleaned up the underhand a lot!
Caleb, on my 83 before it made 217 hp, after smog it hit 252 That’s with exhaust, Intake, 351w heads, rejetted carb

Set of Headmann long tube headers. In 87-90 they were 99$ installed.
Change out the rear gear. From 3.73 to 3.55 or larger gear this gives you a bit TQ seat of the pants feel. Also a better 0 to 60 time.
MAC headers. Hedman H pipe. Force II Cat back. Motorsport 65 TB. C&L mass air. BBK pressure regulator. And to top it off a NOVI 1000. Made 285 rear wheel hp. 🤣. Best mod was the 5 speed swap. Hands down.
Dude I would have said a match ram air kit with the big snorkel on bottom of bumper. That's my biggest remembrance of that era.
Yes sir, those were the bomb!

Great video
Dont forget about cutting springs to lower the car!!
Mac ftw!!!!!!
Currently 23 with first fox. 83 bubble back capri 9” factory location rear end with 430s a 351 with xe274h flat tappet old rhs heads Holley street dominator. And a built t5 on draglites
An el cheapo intake mod was to hog out the upper and lower intakes, then JB Weld the upper since the metal was so thin...
Good stuff! I grew up with Dodge trucks with smallblock carb setups
Cutting’ a couple coils off would get you a few, cool points..for freeee!

1996 here buddy!
1998 over here
Did all of it still have the headers and flowmasters on 😅

Rear gears too
Forgot the traction bars. Lowered the rear lower control arm and they hooked.
Nice
Are those weld wheels just bolt on and go or modifications needed ?
Question can you run a B cam in a bone stock motor with bolt-ons. It would be a 94 GT
Can you share any resources for the vacuum lines deleted/ capped with the smog system delete?
Yank em all, and plug the back of the heads.
No kidding!
Still trying to run the HVAC Box.
I'm guessing Brake Boost and the HVAC may be it.

Original Gangster 🤣
Thanks, that would be me. I bought my first Mustang 5.0 when I was 18 in the service. 84 LX @@FoxcastMedia
Hell Yeah 👍
What about a “chip” that was a necessity
Cool video brother
🤔🚫🧢🎬💯💪🏼🥶🚐☁️
Yellow Accel plug wires added 5 hp
Yup! Had em too, Autozone always kept em in stock lol
What about a powerdyne shoutout
Not really budget, but yes, its definitely an OG mod
