    1:36:12 Fun fact: that Fire Fang bug in Gen 4 has been known for a long time, but it wasn't known why Fire Fang ever ignored Wonder Guard until the DP source code leaks in 2020. It turns out that there is a routine intended to make sure that the non-attacking turns of attacks like Fly and Dig don't get blocked by Wonder Guard. On a given turn, it checks the move's effect against a list of multi-turn move effects to see if Wonder Guard should be ignored. Due to a typo, they put Fire Fang's effect in this list instead of Shadow Force, and the outcome is that the game treats Fire Fang as if Wonder Guard shouldn't interact with it. It's not clear why this routine was even needed for the final game, because Shadow Force works fine despite the function not handling it correctly.
    It's the secret wondertomb counter, RIP wondertomb, hackers in shambles, etc

If the mon you wanted to catch knew Explosion, though, you ran the risk of it blowing up in your face, so having a trained Damp mon was crucial.

    I would genuinely consider Sand Stream better than Drought, reasons being:
    - Gen 3/4 OU are literally centered on Sand existing and if the Pokemon are immune to it tend to be better than others that aren't, one of the ways to help deal with the fat bulky mons is setting up sand and some Dugtrios/Magneton even ran Sunny day/Rain Dance as last move to remove it to help those mentioned before.
    - Unlike Rain, in Gen3/4 Ubers, is rare to do Sun teams as a specific archetype, it's more such as a counter measure of the rain itself and negate the effects of it. Same could be applied to Sand Stream in these cases(Although Sand+Chomp in Gen 4 is pretty stupid)
    - In Gen 5 OU, after the bans of 2x speed on weather abilities, I'd consider Sand way better than Drought, and some players would go as far as saying it's the best weather, because of the overall utility it gives and the chip damage.
    - Gen 6 and gen 7, Sand is overall more prevalent than rain which is strictly to a specific archetype, whereas Sun is basically gone(Zard Y uses it as an extra not to build Sun teams, in fact one of the best teammates of ZardY is TTar lol)
    I know how good Drought can be in specific metas, aka when Chlorophyll was available in Gen 5, but still.
    Sorry for the nitpicking, but i felt it was worth mentioning

    • @vtmagno23
      @vtmagno23 2 роки тому +5

      I do agree overall, but worth noting that sun teams were very good in gen 4 Ubers. While Swift Swimmers were much more used and viable than chlorophyll mons, Sun does have many great benefits outside of that, such as making Ho-Oh and Heatran harder to deal with as well as giving the Latis a way to get past steel types with sun boosted HP Fire. Also allows moonlight cresselia to thrive under sun stall

    • @ImportedCheese

      All fair points! There was a lot of arguing over Sand Stream that was cut in the premium, I definitely could see Sand Stream being better.

      @cashcloakburmy 2 роки тому +9

      I realized how good Sand was as weather from a BKC video describing it as offense. Sun and Rain makes fire and water moves do 50% extra damage, but in sand, that extra damage is 1/16 of the opponent’s health, applied to every single move you use. When thought of in that way, it’s very impactful and functions on a much wider variety of teams than sun and rain.

      Agreed, also on that note, an even more pressing case? *Why doesn't Zangoose have Extreme Speed?* It's based off a Mongoose, you know those animals that hunt snakes using their *literal extreme speed?*
      It would actually be balanced as a glass cannon EK Arceus, pretty much the same amount of normal-type damage, but it lacks the coverage of EKA - it technically near perfect coverage with Normal, Fighting and Ghost/Dark, but with it's fragility and middling speed, using a non-priority move means getting outsped and (as of Gen 5) getting 1-shot. It would be too OP for Gen 3 OU, but the only generation it would be a serious OU-threat would be Gen 4.

    • @justin_tayver5545
      @justin_tayver5545 2 роки тому

      @@alyssarichardson2544 Extremespeed on Zangoose would be broken. 115 base Attack, 80 base power priority move with STAB... This would always deal massive damage as long as it hits neutral. But on the other hand, no one uses Zangoose right? Maybe people would start to use Zangoose more if it was able to learn Extremespeed. And Extremespeed is a normal type move after all...

    In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team and Explorers, Run Away is even WORSE than mainseries. If you get knocked down to “!” health, (around 1/8th, the PMD equivalent of red healthbar) you get inflicted with Terror, a PMD exclusive status condition. Terror makes you unable to use moves or your basic attack, and causes AI partners afflicted with it to run from all Pokémon, enemy and ally alike. This makes Eevee, one of the starters, go from solid to one of the worst.
    Also, Run Away in PMD gives you immunity to trapping and wrapping effects. You know, like it SHOULD.

    I still feel like putting objectively worse abilities higher than others, just because the pokemon given to them are better is weird, but I do get it. Wonder Guard as an ability is directly one of the best abilities, but the fact that it's only on Shedinja moves it away from meta defining as it would be if it were on, say, Dialga. Still feel that by that logic, Sand Stream should definitely be above Drought, but it's your choice.
    I do stand by thinking that Huge/Pure Power is better than Gorilla Tactics because it's not like it isn't just a straight upgrade, and the only reason otherwise is that the guy in charge of balancing Garmanitan likes it a ton for some strange reason.

    Great vid to relax to and put on in the background, though I think Wonder Guard should be meta defining.
    Not because the ability itself is amazing, but because every team has to have some answer to Shedinja or else they automatically lose, and if an ability adds an entirely new criteria to your team building of 'will I auto lose to Shedinja' then it helped define the meta

    • @ImportedCheese
      @ImportedCheese  2 роки тому +5

      I think most teams will defeat Shedinja by accident, it's mostly in Ubers with the teeny tiny roster than you can really get some Shedinja action consistently

    • @SomeOrdinaryViewer
      @SomeOrdinaryViewer 2 роки тому +2

      Every team runs entry hazards and moves that are super effective against Shedinja are very common, so it's absolutely not meta defining

    I rewatch your content cuz its nice long form entertaining stuff i can listen to while doing other things. Assuming you havent gotten an answer for the clear body thing, i think the idea behind it is that the pokemon with it are primarily composed of one material, the regies being stone, ice, and steel, the tentacool family being mostly water considering theyre jellyfish, and metagross being... uh.... pure... uh... metagross. Anyway, being composed of one element/alloy/ material probably makes it easy to purge impurities or prevent the quality from lowering? Hence stats maintaining consistency. Idk my best gusss. Funnily enough the pun for cloud nine persists for english somewhat as nine sounds like the german nein, meaning no so cloud no or no cloud could also mean no weather and in german it is called Wolke Sieben (cloud seven) which is the german variant of the idom cloud nine. At the same time sieben can be also used as the word for to sift. Like sifting out the rain clouds and sand and hail and leaving just enough clouds for a drought not to happen.
