1:36:12 Fun fact: that Fire Fang bug in Gen 4 has been known for a long time, but it wasn't known why Fire Fang ever ignored Wonder Guard until the DP source code leaks in 2020. It turns out that there is a routine intended to make sure that the non-attacking turns of attacks like Fly and Dig don't get blocked by Wonder Guard. On a given turn, it checks the move's effect against a list of multi-turn move effects to see if Wonder Guard should be ignored. Due to a typo, they put Fire Fang's effect in this list instead of Shadow Force, and the outcome is that the game treats Fire Fang as if Wonder Guard shouldn't interact with it. Mega Mawile having Huge Power could be literal (the bite force on its not-jaws has increased) or another rabbit pun (having two crocodilian mouths hanging off the back of its head makes them look like *rabbit ears).*
Groudon and Kyogre were designed after a Harvesting Machine and a wide plow, barber shop equipment is just modeled after farming equipment for some reason
The french traduction for Cloud Nine, "Ciel Gris" ("Grey Sky") can be argued to have the opposite connotation, referring to the fact that an overcast weather can be seen as depressing. It also completely lacks the pun aspect, making it, in a sens, a polar opposite of the Japanese and English versions.
After the explanation of why the rabbit Pokemon get Huge Power, I think I just realized why Mega Mawile was given Huge Power. It's a stretch (like mochi), but Mega Mawile gets a second mouth thing on the back? of its head. If Mega Mawile turns around to have the mouth things facing away from you, it kind of looks like it has rabbit ears.

I still feel like putting objectively worse abilities higher than others, just because the pokemon given to them are better is weird, but I do get it. Wonder Guard as an ability is directly one of the best abilities, but the fact that it's only on Shedinja moves it away from meta defining as it would be if it were on, say, Dialga. Still feel that by that logic, Sand Stream should definitely be above Drought, but it's your choice. I do stand by thinking that Huge/Pure Power is better than Gorilla Tactics because it's not like it isn't just a straight upgrade, and the only reason otherwise is that the guy in charge of balancing Garmanitan likes it a ton for some strange reason.
To the point made about kids learning about the word "truant" from Pokemon, it's very possible kids who skip school frequently may have learned it before that because of truancy officers. Not sure how common they are outside the States, but especially here in the HEB area of Texas just about every school has one.
BTW Effect Spore Vileplume is actually pretty great especially when Strength Sap came out and hidden power still existed. Max Def Bold Vileplume could switch in to a lot of hits and had a decent chance of giving a status condition, and could healitself to full while lowering enemies attack. I used this in OU and got to like 1550 with it
@@ImportedCheese I shoulda replied earlier, but Strength sap makes it not a gimmick especially in gen 7 before triple axel. Plume could tank almost any phys hit and heal to full while lowering the attack, walling almost anything even non-banded Weavile. I tried to find my old team, but essentially Fire Water Grass core, with Blissey to pass wishes in case you had to pivot before strength sapping. Sp Def Rotom wash was a great partner tanking the hits Plume couldn't with for volt-turn momentum. I think I used a defog, Roost, U-turn, Fireblast moltres as well. Something hilarious about Wonder Guard is that, thanks to Tera Electric and Air Balloon, Shedinja is now completely immune to all direct damage except for Thousand Arrows
Great vid to relax to and put on in the background, though I think Wonder Guard should be meta defining. Not because the ability itself is amazing, but because every team has to have some answer to Shedinja or else they automatically lose, and if an ability adds an entirely new criteria to your team building of 'will I auto lose to Shedinja' then it helped define the meta
I think most teams will defeat Shedinja by accident, it's mostly in Ubers with the teeny tiny roster than you can really get some Shedinja action consistently
I saw on the internet that slander can apply to true statements in Japan, not just deliberate lies like in the US. And you know its true because it was on the internet.
With Gardevoir being my favorite pokemon, Trace is by far my favorite ability in the game. It's so useful being able to copy (almost) any ability out there. Tracing something like Flash Fire against a Fire type could potentially full wall them. Or you know... Trace Wonder Guard 😉😂
I rewatch your content cuz its nice long form entertaining stuff i can listen to while doing other things. Assuming you havent gotten an answer for the clear body thing, i think the idea behind it is that the pokemon with it are primarily composed of one material, the regies being stone, ice, and steel, the tentacool family being mostly water considering theyre jellyfish, and metagross being... uh.... pure... uh... metagross. Anyway, being composed of one element/alloy/ material probably makes it easy to purge impurities or prevent the quality from lowering? Hence stats maintaining consistency. Idk my best gusss. Pure body gets that quality across better than clear body anyway
I think a better buff to illuminate would be to make it a compound eyes clone, like you can aim better when your surroundings are better lit. I don't think it would be too much, mostly just starmie + lanturn getting perfect accuracy hydro pumps and 91% accurate thunders for a bit more power. Watchog gets more accuracy on hypnosis but it's realistically still useless lol
Funnily enough the pun for cloud nine persists for english somewhat as nine sounds like the german nein, meaning no so cloud no or no cloud could also mean no weather and in german it is called Wolke Sieben (cloud seven) which is the german variant of the idom cloud nine. At the same time sieben can be also used as the word for to sift. Like sifting out the rain clouds and sand and hail and leaving just enough clouds for a drought not to happen.

When they included mind blown to the list i was hoping they would expand it to the likes of seed bomb, fire blast, eruption, sludge bomb etc. Might make it a niche viable support ability in doubes if it happens to cover some meta threats
That could work! They could also unnerf explosion
Mega Mawile having Huge Power could be literal (the bite force on its not-jaws has increased) or another rabbit pun (having two crocodilian mouths hanging off the back of its head makes them look like *rabbit ears).*
I think it's the two mouths being like rabbit ears
Groudon and Kyogre were designed after a Harvesting Machine and a wide plow, barber shop equipment is just modeled after farming equipment for some reason
That...makes a bit more sense
This makes me wish that I could like the video more than once to highlight all the parts I found hilarious :)
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that RKS System sounds like Arceus and they're both type based plate abilities. I'm a fraud
man-made Arceus!!!
What about Clear Body?!
@@ImportedCheese It's "Corps Sain", or "Clean/Healthy body" ; it's much clearer (ha !).
For what is worth, Scyther in ADV UU loves Swarm and CB tends to try get lowered in purpose to get in Swarm range!
That's....something.
Toss it in with Gen 3 Heracross!
It...might just be a balance thing
Your editing is great, im gonna binge all your stream edits over the next week
Thank you!
The fully scripted videos have even fancier edits!
@@ImportedCheese I like your Channel Name.
Damp Swampert is especially cruel considering that it’d have loved it on gen 4
Someone mentioned that in THE LIVE! Cut!
Ive watched the live stream and im going to watch this one as well. I love your content so keep the amazing work!
Thank you! I think the edits make it a different experience
Was watching the full video of the live to help me wind down to sleep, last night, so nice to see this version just be put up.
Glad to know I help Piccolo sleep
Great premium version! My favorite new trivia I learned was the "noutenki" translation
Thank you! I hope you find the more recent PREMIUM edits to live up the pre-livestream era tier lists!
I watched the full stream then other night, looking forward to listening to this while at work
It's been cut down quite a lot, C O N T E N T
"Torkoal is atrocious"
me having flashbacks to that time my Chadkoal, as the lead on my Hoenn meme team (which also featured such winners as Shiftry, Aggron, and Crawdaunt), made some legendary spamming chump on showdown ragequit because she deleted his mega ray with explosion:
Noble turtle sacrifices itself for the greater good
I'm actually one of the (probably) few who _owned_ the "Pokémon Diamond" bootleg of Telefang as a kid! I'm aware it enforces a stereotype, but my parents got it for me on a Polish market at the time (I live in Germany, and we were spending a week with relatives near the German-Polish border). Lil' me thought I would actually get a Pokémon game, too! But as I played, yeeeah, even kid me caught on pretty quick... xD
Monster battles, must be pokemon!!
Cloud? NEIN!!!
The pun works in English as well
I only just discovered your channel a few days ago but were like the same age and I can relate to so many of your random anecdotes. I ALSO never got into Static Shock despite others generally praising the show. I think it’s someone of a cult classic for a lot of people
You should see the mainline games list!
okay that intro is fantastic.... I'm already hooked. I honestly expected this as one of the generic types of tier list.
But hey, if you write your script, it's very well written!
I'm glad you liked the intro!
This particular video is not scripted!
Sometimes (like with this list) I have an idea of what I want the intro to be before the stream starts, but sometimes chat interaction changes my plans.
@@ImportedCheese That makes it even more impressive!
@@pauljohnong5924 Thank you! If you'd like to compare to a "scripted" video, my type tier list was prerecorded, so I could do retakes off of prompts, and my Green Glitches videos are completely scripted.
@@ImportedCheese I'm binging your videos now. Thank you for all your effort in making this videos.
Opened UA-cam at the exact perfect time, I already know what I will be doing the next hours haha
An hour and a half of premium! Cut down from 5, wow!
I don't think you can separate the abilities from the pokemon that have them
To the point made about kids learning about the word "truant" from Pokemon, it's very possible kids who skip school frequently may have learned it before that because of truancy officers. Not sure how common they are outside the States, but especially here in the HEB area of Texas just about every school has one.
They called it "hooky" in the northeastern US
What about kids who skipped school to play pokemon? 🤔
BTW Effect Spore Vileplume is actually pretty great especially when Strength Sap came out and hidden power still existed.
Max Def Bold Vileplume could switch in to a lot of hits and had a decent chance of giving a status condition, and could healitself to full while lowering enemies attack. I used this in OU and got to like 1550 with it
I dunno seems super gimmick to me
@@ImportedCheese I shoulda replied earlier, but Strength sap makes it not a gimmick especially in gen 7 before triple axel. Plume could tank almost any phys hit and heal to full while lowering the attack, walling almost anything even non-banded Weavile. Having access to aroma also came in clutch as I had a mega Aggron to sweep and it needed to not be burned to sweep.
Vileplume Bold 252 Hp 252 Def, 4 SpA
Strength Sap, HP Fire, Sludge Bomb, Aroma
My team's for it were mostly tanky mons that could hit hard so having plume spread status and blissey pass wishes was needed
Also, glad that the editing worked out for you. It looks really good! (I still have to... go back and do the editing. BUT FIRST LET ME FINISH WATCHING THIS)
Oh your discord name is different! I didn't recognize you
@@ImportedCheese Hiding in plain sight mwawhaha
I'm so fucking glad you pointed out Groudon looking like a barber shop buzz razor. I've seen it since I was a kid and just knowing one other person out there sees it too, puts my soul at peace. I can finally pass onto the afterlife. Thank you sir :,^)
Castform should have gotten a form for not only sand and snow, but the terrain moves as well, i feel like it could increase it's viability a lot, also side note, for the longest time, i thought castform evolved into milotic cause I could never find a feebas
If it got stat boosts in its forms it would be so much better, gamefreak pls

fun fact: in eastern fairytales, rabbits on the moon either make mochi (Japanese), or mooncakes (Chinese)
What are mooncakes
@@ImportedCheese they are like some sort of festival dessert, you use dough and red beans/lotus seed to make paste (some sort of sticky food), and then wrap the paste/dough with cooked eggs
in gen 3 sturdy had a use in battle tower because the npcs would spam one hit ko moves
At least Gen 5+ sturdy is always good!

Swift swim is banned with Drizzle, got to keep the luvdisc in check, don’t want them to be too overbearing
Luvdisk can't evolve into Alomomola because then it could use eviolite to become invincible!
@@ImportedCheese God, eviolite Luvdisc with boosted swift swim, OU better watch out for its rain boosted hydro pump, that stuff is powerful!

Galvantula is definitely the best Pokémon with Compoundeyes, in my opinion. That Electric typing gives it an edge over Butterfree. Absolutely slaughters Skyla.

Something hilarious about Wonder Guard is that, thanks to Tera Electric and Air Balloon, Shedinja is now completely immune to all direct damage except for Thousand Arrows
Is Truant bad enuf to make even smth like Eternamax Eternatus somewhat balanced? I dont see that happening with other hindering abilities tho.
any truant pokemon auto loses to protect
The Grinch smile I just made when I realize that you'll eventually have to talk about THOSE abilities in the future...
Uh which ones
Great vid to relax to and put on in the background, though I think Wonder Guard should be meta defining.
Not because the ability itself is amazing, but because every team has to have some answer to Shedinja or else they automatically lose, and if an ability adds an entirely new criteria to your team building of 'will I auto lose to Shedinja' then it helped define the meta
I think most teams will defeat Shedinja by accident, it's mostly in Ubers with the teeny tiny roster than you can really get some Shedinja action consistently
Every team runs entry hazards and moves that are super effective against Shedinja are very common, so it's absolutely not meta defining
I saw on the internet that slander can apply to true statements in Japan, not just deliberate lies like in the US.
And you know its true because it was on the internet.
This... this statement is slander
Slanderous
With Gardevoir being my favorite pokemon, Trace is by far my favorite ability in the game. It's so useful being able to copy (almost) any ability out there. Tracing something like Flash Fire against a Fire type could potentially full wall them. Or you know... Trace Wonder Guard 😉😂
I think Trace is only of the only "ability manipulation" effects that can actually get you wonder guard. Good ability!!
I lost a game because I had Volt Absorb Traced off of my scarfed Dracozolt using Bolt Beak when it was my last mon
when watching imported cheese videos i'm like smiling and laughing every 30s your videos are too good!!
Every 30 seconds?! i'm glad you like it lol
Pure body gets that quality across better than clear body anyway
people have suggested that "clear" is a verb
Cut out my dodrio joke 😔
Watching the premium back, I do like how the list turned out. I still think Early Bird is Useless but otherwise good ratings!
Sorry! I cut out a ton of jokes!
Just...anything pls
Funnily enough the pun for cloud nine persists for english somewhat as nine sounds like the german nein, meaning no so cloud no or no cloud could also mean no weather and in german it is called Wolke Sieben (cloud seven) which is the german variant of the idom cloud nine. At the same time sieben can be also used as the word for to sift. Like sifting out the rain clouds and sand and hail and leaving just enough clouds for a drought not to happen.
wait didn't I discuss Cloud Nine already being a pun
Thanks for making my shiny hunting experience more enjoyable 👍

Swarm heracross cut from the premium! Sad!
Torkoal is the most relevant non-legendary weather setter in VGC after Tyranitar since Gen 8 at least. Choice Specs Eruption is extremely terrifying.
turtle power?!
Wallace from Wallace and Gromit also believes the moon is made out of cheese. He is a huge crackers and cheese lover to the point he went to the moon to eat some of its cheese.
In case you didn't watch it, you better do. One of people's favorite quote is "Where is the cheese, Gromit?".
I've seen images from that movie!
Just started the video and I hear FE4 music? Beyond based. Great choice.
I use FE4 music in the Karen Challenge intros, too!
thinking about intimidate and illuminate... maybe illuminate could reduce the opponent's special attack on switch in
That would make it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, although I still think Intimidate would have the edge since physical attacks tend to be harder to mitigate.
I always thought "clear body" was a play on "clear mind." Like your Pokemon is so zen that that nothing can distract them. Or debuff them...
That...could be it?
Specs torkoal plus vileploom in doubles absolutely slaps.
Set the sun, ploom gets speed doubled from chlorophyll and hits after you on Tork. Then Stab full power eruption comes out in the sun Hella fast.
uh what if your opponent hits Torkoal tho
@@ImportedCheese max speed vileploom in the sun has 436 speed. After you causes eruption to happen on vileplooms turn and it's usually first

Very curious about why you are living in Japan, is part of your family from there, did you move there to work? And how is life there, are you happy there or would you prefer to be living somewhere else?
You don't have to answer these questions of course, if you don't want to, I don't mean to meddle in your personal life, it is simply out of curiosity :) keep up the great work!
I've talked about it openly a few times! My mom is Japanese and all of her relatives (I guess they're also my relatives) live in Japan! I wish I had better Japanese, but overall I'd say I prefer the stability to life back in the United States where basic injuries could bankrupt you
Ok, so if the legends are barber tools, what is Rayquayza? Does it’s eternal smile represent the smile in the mirror when they finish your hair? Air-oriented like a blow dryer?
No clue, they might not even be barber tools at all?!

Breloom is good enough to the point where it's considered legitimately OU in Gen 3, it did use Effect Spore when it was all it had. Granted, it couldn't take a lot of hits so it probably didn't affect a lot of games.
Spore / Subpunch is pretty good!
About Own Tempo, isn't there a Lycanroc form you can only get from an Own Tempo Rockruff?
