It would be cool if Black Magic developed a feature for the Vision Pro where each of the pages of DaVinci are in different windows that are always next to each other so you can jump between the edit page and fusion back and forth and it’s all within your eye sight.
what's crazy is how people are complaining about a product that literally is better than an y VR or AR headset.... why can't we say "thank you apple for once again changing the world" they took something that most people never really tought about to something worth while !!!
As a professional colorist, I can't wait to try it out with Resolve and really push its limits. I think within a few months people will be wearing these in public. Great video!
I'm excited for where this is going, ideally replacing an external monitor or two, and making traveling edits more feasible. But currently I can only edit with one window or workspace, which isn't enough for an efficient workflow. When multi-screen support comes, the price becomes more viable for the regular consumer ($2000), I'll be buying one. But for now, I'll be using the Studio Ultra and Studio Display, with an M1 14" laptop for travel.
Something that might be interesting for me, as a self-directing camera operator, is the possibility to have live vr screen inputs from my camera. I work a lot with a gimble, and my biggest problem is the fact that I can't run big secondary screens when I'm working. With the Vision Pro I could for example have one screen with the exposure, one with the focus and one for the rec709 conversion in VR. That way I can run a light weight set up and still get all the information from my camera that I might wanna have in front of me. That would be something that would make me interested in running the Vision on set.
as a person who likes watching sports, I was expecting it would be like being in the stadium immersive experience & not "just" watching a big floating screen with lots of stats on the sides.
Interesting you didn't use the double band though. But after watching various reviews, i think it really needs multi-monitor, needs the same macbook functionality with ipad, and of course the inevitable cheaper/lighter version. Does seem like higher FOV will be a game changer too.
Remember this tracks your eyes so it only fully renders what you’re actually looking at and not all the things around it. Thats why some other windows look blurry at times .
Just to clarify, I know it didn’t work for you, but I am able to use my logitech mouse and my third-party keyboard for editing within Final Cut Pro on the Apple vision, pro
I usually use my iPad as sidecar for editing as 2nd monitor - I guess 2 streams not possible with that "hack"? There is no USB-C display mode for iPads, that would make it work?
Excellent questions and content. I am a professional who uses Resolve, Premiere, After Effects and Maya among others. It's almost impossible to find a review with this angle. I haven't used mine yet for editing or 3D.
As a prescription glasses-wearer, I don't have a full clear field of view just wearing glasses (and now that I looked, I can't not see the blurry edges!). It's great you tested DaVinci Resolve on AVP, but it would've been great to test Mac Virtual Display (computer still doing the heavy lifting) next to DaVinci Resolve (AVP using M2) to understand how they perform together. I think some of the cons you bring up (using Apple accessories, accidental clicks) are part of regular platform learnings/constraints -- the EU will likely create laws about the accessories, and the accidental clicks you'll learn quickly not to do that since the input method is specific to AVP.
I think this is why devices like VR goggles or MR device like this are still not merging into our daily needs and often ending up as a game device or just a decoration cuz it could not change the human habits. We've been using tools like cellphones and computers, keyboards to finish our tasks. It's quite hard to break those habits and change our way of work into something new. Plus if this kind of device cannot overcome the size and weight, then it's going to fade out. It's cool and futuristic for sure, and it would be interesting to see how it turns out in the future, but for now, it's an appealing device that probably people only used and tried when they first bought it.
You gotta wear the included head strap so it's not pressing against your face. But such a great review. I was wanting to buy to speed up editing but not anymore. Thanks
Is there a size limit to how big you can make the Mac screen? Seems like you could open 2-3 windows within a huge Mac screen. I was wondering about Logic Pro X. So I’m hoping to have a timeline in the middle, a mixer window on the right, and a floating plugin window on the left if possible.
