About DoTs; I'd add that the game will show you how much of a monster's life will be taken by the DoT. For example, if something is bleeding they'll have a portion of their health bar turn dark red. That dark red portion is how much damage the bleed is going to do.
@@mattm8870 Yeah it's really nice. I wish other games had this same mechanic. It's so simple but it's a huge quality of life improvement. I didn't realize how bad I needed it.

the damage buckets was super helpful! i was always torn between making a vulnerable build or a crit build but now i know it's better to just stack both equally. thank you for the awesome video!
maybe not quite equally? i feel likee crit is more generally useful, and will apply to vulnerable enemies... while boosting vulnerable will only apply if/when an enemy is vulnerable. still, in general having both is certainly good.
Great work. It is a shame when this type of info isn’t found in game. It wouldn’t be too difficult to have a glossary in game to address the more complicated mechanics
Nah, could be better, like when you start of with a certain category you keep on going with subcategories in alphabetical order, and then continue on with the next main category. Though just alphabetical works too, but it's rather annoying from hopping from different topic to something entirely different. Like start with crowd control, and then continue on with what was listed under crowd control.
Damn. Not only is this guide thorough and amazingly well explained, but the production value is through the roof. Thank you for the truly impressive work!
I remember buying the Diablo II Strategy Guide for this kind of information 20 years ago. Thanks Rhykker, this helps quite a bit! I took the information from your video and made a spreadsheet so I can reference it while playing and in-game.
Lucky Hit has confused me since the first beta and I've listened to other people try to explain it and I still didn't get it. The way you explained it was clear and concise enough that now I finally get it. Relating it to Proc Chance (long-time WoW player) was very helpful, thanks bud.
yeah they really made lucky hit convoluted as heck in D4, from what I understand as well, is that the skills listed lucky hit chance is also divided by the number of hits of a multi hit skill. So at first glance, sorc hydra looks like it has a high lucky hit, but its actually absolute trash and will almost never get any lucky hits because it dividing it by all the times the hydra fires during its duration.
Hands down probably the best Diablo 4 prep video I've seen and I already shared with my friends that are jumping into D4 without much ARPG experience. Thank you dude!!!!
Rhykker never disapoints. Thanks for being there for us! Edit: @Rhykker There's something about the ''dot'' part where you say that on some occasion, the dot stacks. So far, the dots are only: Burning, Poison and Bleed. I understand that you can stack different kind of dots, but from my gameplay experience, stacking only poison or bleed damage didn't seem to make the enemy die faster. It only stacked the duration of the dot effect. I don't think you can stack the same dot effect twice for damage purposes, only for duration purposes. And I'm not 100% sure but, if you have two characters in the same party that does poisoning damage the dot will only be the last person that applied the effect on the enemy, but the duration will stack. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I felt, when I played the Betas and the Server slam.
This is a great summary, both of old mechanics which can be a great help to new players, and new D4 mechanics which no doubt is great for all of us to know. Excellent video, Rhykker!

I agree with the last video of Kripp saying that this is a terrible way of approaching the damage aspect of Diablo 4. This will dumb down the damage customization process. I was excited to choose a certain paragon board based on its buckets VS what I can choose from gear etc...I do really hope that the old damage bucket system has a place in the game...
Rhykker, I greatly appreciate the effort that went into this video; it is an incredible resource! But I really wish there were some visualisations during the damage bucket segment because that's a really hard one to grasp just by listening. But I still appreciate the short version of diversifying buckets!
You've got the damage reduction in reverse... reducing damage received by 50% is the same as increasing your life by a 100%, lets look at how many instances of "50% damage reduction" is needed to reach 12.5%? 50>25>12.5. Which is the same as 8 times more life than you started. Damage reduction is worth the same!
I feel like he reversed additive and multiplicative damage in the buckets section too. Damage within a bucket should be multiplicative with it's same type and then the buckets are additive together?
One correction for multiplicative effects such as cooldown reduction: Just because the additive percentage benefit is smaller doesn't mean the effect is less. In fact, often it is the opposite. For example, say you are a caster with a skill that has an 8 second cooldown, casting once every 8 seconds. With a single 50% cooldown bonus, the skill is now at 4 second CD. You can now cast twice every 8 seconds, or a single extra cast for "200% the damage". With two separate cooldown bonuses (75%), the skill is now at 2 second CD. You can now use it 4 times every 8 seconds, or three extra casts "400% the damage". With three separate (87.5%), it is at 1 second CD. You can now use it 8 times every 8 seconds, or 7 extra casts or "800% the damage". Similar can be said for multiplicative damage mitigation. 50% damage reduction makes it twice as long to kill you. 75% makes it take 4 times as long... etc.
This has been extremely helpful to me and I will attempt to internalize this list to memory. Many thanks for taking the time to define these terms and continue to educate us!

Although kind of confusing at first, Lucky Hit is the most interesting new mechanic. It's meant to work exactly as critical chance, but instead of doing damage based on the critical damage, it opens up alot of versatility. Let's say you manage to get 90-100% Lucky Hit chance in late game, not only would lucky hit effects would proc at face value (given you're at 100%) you can stack multiple effects from a wide variety. Let's say you have 10% chance to 100% dodge for 2 sec, 15% chance to double damage on the next core skills, 10% to grant a barrier, 15% to reset cooldowns, 10% to berserk for 4 sec, 6% to daze enemies, etc... This is all hypothetical of course but imagine 100% Lucky Hit would effectively make your character do something crazy almost every time you hit. I feel like this is the Blizzard RNG essence into a mechanic that might be just super fun to toy with.
Fortify and Overpower being two brand new mechanics, I wasn't super keen on trying to develop them on my barb. Basically the reason I showed up here. Great info in general. Especially on the whole "damage buckets" concept. Wish I could drop more than a like and a sub!

Thank you so much for this, as a new diablo player who wants to really get good at this game it has been hard to understand the lingo that most youtubers use to explain builds and other stuff!
I’m literally about to start Diablo 4 as a new player. Never played any of the others and this is an amazing guide. The concise guide I’ve ever seen in any game but a creator. New sub 🫵🏻 cheers mate. Look forward to more and revisiting your other videos
This is the top Diablo info channel period. Thank you Rhykker .
Fortify and Overpower being two brand new mechanics, I wasn't super keen on trying to develop them on my barb. Basically the reason I showed up here. Great info in general. Especially on the whole "damage buckets" concept. Wish I could drop more than a like and a sub!
I like it when a streamer delves deep on its content. Subscribed.
Just want to say a huge thank you for the amazing content you put out. I m so glad to have your insight to D4 while learning the new game!
Phenomenal breakdown, thank you gor putting this together. Would be amazing if this glossary was in the game.
Mr Rhykker, I've been watching your videos for a very long time with only giving back with views. There is a mount that you can get by getting a membership to your favorite content creator on Twitch. You are it, bud. One thing, blizzard didn't really elaborate on this. How do they track this? Can you maybe add a little segment on this in your videos, and if you already did, can you point me to the info. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this guide. Im too lazy to go find out all these mechanics myself
Rhykker has been my go to channel for diablo ever since D3. Dude is super good at explaining stuff and stays on top of everything.
Your one stop channel for everything Diablo
Thanks for the video. Especially the calculations for lucky hit were really helpful.
Thank you for uploading this! It’s very useful especially at launch. 👍
That D1 music hit me so hard in the nostalgia. Much approved!
