Idk, I'm just sick of the, 'run fast, kill fast, run faster, kill faster, etc' mindset of modern ARPGs, especially Diablo. I enjoyed the launch where it felt a bit more like a classic dungeon crawler. Now it's a speedrunner's dream...again.
I can agree to a certain extent with that, I think people don't want it to be what it was when a game launched and once you hit 6570 it took forever and there was nothing to do except nightmare dungeons which was ironic because they sold the game as this open world thing only to funnel people into nightmare dungeons away from the open world.... I stopped playing after the first two and a half 3 months and I just started playing for a season 5 I liked a lot of the changes that they've made sorcerer felt pretty cool of course it had one of the best bills of the game if not the best but I liked playing with the fireball instead I'm just hardheaded like that lol
I think they just need a balance of leveling at a tad slower pace with things to do that don't feel mundane and that was the biggest problem with the launch of the game fun in the beginning and then it was like watching paint dry over and over and over again....
Yea I have that complaint as well. What was the point of making this large bland open terrain and to have everything feel so empty. At this point the environments and zones felt more unique in D3, more memorable and distinct. The D4 team really needs to make it a priority to fix this and GIVE YOU A RESON TO EXPLORE THESE ZONES AGAIN!!!Fix the old zones and starting make the new ones so they don't have this problem. I mean it's no wonder they give you mounts in this game. Imagine going on foot through this repetitive and empty terrain with nothing to do. Not saying I hate the game or anything, but it's a huge problem. It should have been picked up on early in the development cycle that it was a problem and counter productive to how they advertised the game early to the audiences.
Kind of odd ? I do blood Maiden in open world , legion events , strongholds, world bosses. Now realmwalkers are coming. There's a lot dungeon stuff I do grouped. Not everything in the open world needs to be done together.
Im glad the "not a Raid" Raid can be done with two people only i mostly play D4 with the wife, and she mostly plays with me, or we play solo. We are glad that we dont need to have two random people to play with to enjoy everything the game has to offer for now
My wife doesn't play Diablo 😢 She is forcing me to go outside our marriage if I am to be able to experience all VoH has to offer. Damnit I wished she liked gaming.
Hey Rhykker, thanks for being the way you are. I can always coun't on your reviews to be a perfect pitch for me, since i see things nearly exactly as you are. Things you tend to like in games, i find myself also enjoying. Lately i was playing more Last Epoch then D4, but your reviews made me really look forward to Vessel of Hatred and in particular to the Spirit Born. It seems to be the best of both worlds of a monk and a kind of druid/shaman, which i really like.
The faster pace doesn't bother me as long it's not requiring me to 'go' fast, since i am slow and cautious player in all games, once i am forced to 'go' fast, i stop enjoying the experience, cause my brain processes things too slow for me to react quickly. I enjoyed diablo 3, the problem i had was the lack of variety of enjoyable activities to participate in, where in the end game the only real option other than map activity (which wasn't as good in D3) was to do Rifts, which felt repetitive, and really tense (since you were fighting against a time pressure).
They’ve proven gamers have increased speed and accuracy in people like surgeons; by considerable margins. It’s a shame you’re resistant to exercising your mind!
Dude, I had the same comment about the voice acting, but i took it out because I thought maybe i was misremembering. I feel vindicated now! Great video brother
@@Rhykker If I start a new character in the Original Campaign, can I play the Original Campaign with that character and then go into the Vessel of Hatred campaign with the same character??
This is the video, i've been waiting for today. You are one of the most reasonable persons in content creation i know. Thanks for aaaaalll you did over the years.
@@messire9837 Not Diablo has, but content creation. What i was referring to with the word, is being reasonable. It is Rhykkers way of being mindful, choosing the words for describing things in a way, that is not judging by his emotions. Being fair, not trying to judge anyone for their personal emotions, really trying to give an objective view on the matter, pointing out, if he voices his emotions/ personal point of view and not trying to bloat his content with ultramegaclickbaitf***shit.
@@Siphr0dias Rest assured, I know what you mean, I myself have been following Rhykker for quite a while and listen, as a matter of acts. It's Just a little beat of innocent rolling on my part, for which I feel I'm gonna have to apologize as well in case you have yet to realize that's the dev emotion team Rhykker's being mindful to try not to hurt by the feels. Not the players. And you know it. Right?
@@messire9837 No apology necessary. Really. I understand, what you mean by his mindfulness being about the devs. My assumption is, it is partly about devs and partly about us players. But i never can be sure. 😄 Which is fine.
I found your comments on how you felt about the campaign interesting. My expectations for the story are a bit lower not because I expect it to be bad, but current story setup boxes them into a simpler story. In the main game, they made a very hard to replicate story where everything was a compelling shade of gray. When you say Lilith was a great villain, it is a legitimate question to ask "was she really a villain?". The problem with this expansion is now the line between right and wrong/good and evil is MUCH clearer because you are struggling against a daemon. It's really hard to be as sophisticated with a story that does not focus on a fallen angel and a quasi-risen daemon.
Agreed. The story after D2 has been very banal and lackluster. I wish they spent more time on it and injected it with more originality. Considering that it’s essentially a cyclical plot, they should try a bit harder to try to add more novel storytelling ideas to it. Because it’s now turned into, Greater Evil comes back, revives brothers, you kill most of them, one survives and you kill them in the expansion. Whereas from D1 to D2 there was a real progression and increase in stakes. D3 had the angels but it was essentially the same storytelling framework just with angels instead of the demons
Hi Rhykker, Diablo fan from D1 here. I really like a lot of the changes made and I like the game state (as I liked Diablo 3). But I still regret the D4 slower pace and "difficulty", I would have liked they fixed the game without leaning too much on D3's fast pace. For example the combat pace and strategy in French RogueLite Ravenswatch feels really great and more fullfilling. I'm also still not fully convinced about the new ancestral gear changes but I'll reserve my final comment after fully playing S6. Anyway they improved a lot and Diablo 3 is a good game but fast pace diminish combat strategy and monsters importance.
I don't think I've seen anyone else on the entire internet with an opinion anywhere close to this. I think only you want the game to be this way. The rest of us are VERY happy with the faster paced arcade style of gameplay that D4 has (close to D3's pacing). Not to flame you or hate on you.
@@d4mephisto I know, and that's why D4 is very leaning on fast pace. (But I'm not alone, I have 5 likes out of all readers 😅) And I still enjoy D4, I loved D3 very much (I played it untill D4 launch) and I love D4. But having a bigger difference between D2,3 and 4 could have been nice too... 🙂 Anyway let's all enjoy S6… I'm gonna be blasting it all I can 😜
@@d4mephisto Without flame or hate; I believe it's more accurate to say it's D3 player base that are very happy with D4 change. I bougth D4 with the 'promise' it was more D2 than D3. D3 gameplay fractured fan base when it was released. And since PoE2 switch to a slower gameplay, I think manjisamura and myself aren't the only ones to prefere a slower gameplay.
Amen to that brother, @manjisamura2720, my thoughts exactly, the combat and slower, more engaging mechanics were amazing, everything in D4 now seems to be "dumbed down" to cater to all the people that don't even pay attention to what they are doing. That is why I left playing D4 after Season 2 I believe and I will probably not be coming back.
I see the A but not the RPG. as someone more interested in the blood than the numbers, the only saving grace for this update is my experience Diablo 3 midway through the Torment tiers when I said, "I get the idea" and moved onto experiences a little more intimate and connected to the action on screen. this looks like an experience worth having but you put your 2 quarters in and then get off the machine when you've had enough.
I enjoyed the original play style that the game had. It felt like Diablo 2 mixed well with Diablo 3. I just wish the D2 players hadn't been driven away by Blizz making weird choices.
They didn't make what I would define as weird choices. They simply chose to listen to the D3 complainers instead of the D2 complainers and forced us out by making the game more D3 and less D2 :(
@@_ninjaneersemi right they decided to listen to the d3 content creators like rax and wudi and them and that’s why we see this game turning back into d3
@@steelewearinc6140 The only thing that grinds my gears at this point are two things. 1. the blatant disrespect to runewords in D4 (these are not runewords) and 2. The complete and total abandoning D2R. Makes me sad that they have so many resources for D4 but can't justify even one new runeword or balance changes for D2R per ladder reset.
I will wait for it to be 50% off in a couple months, or more. Theres a lot of games to fill my time already and since I am imune to fomo, I can wait and get a better deal later.
Will not be paying full price for this expansion.. I'm with the 50% off crowd... paid too much at launch to be let down. Companies forget the old addage... first impressions are very important. I have played since launch, but again will no pay full price for this expansion. ❤
Hey man weather you see this or not, ive quite literally always found my way back to your videos, thinking about getting back into the game played 3 for way to many hours and played 4 at launch and enjoyed it, but quit for a while happy to be getting back into it thanks for your hard work.
I don't understand why this narrative keeps getting pushed about creating your own build. EVERY VERSION OF D4 HAS HAD THAT. The problem is that people still gravitate towards the best builds and taking builds that are severely underperforming will always result in worse results. At this point I feel like it's smoke being blown up my ass when I hear this from people. I think it's even more ridiculous with D4 since the skill system is completely underwhelming so very few builds are even something that I would call "unique" at this point.
I enjoyed D3 played a lot but still I wish they kept the pace state of the game at launch regarding item rarity and "darker tone" (Skill FX being too present over the environment with vivid colors)... seems the direction pointed more to what D3 gameplay and visual appeal was after all.
The problem was (and still is) that Blizz thought 'listening to player feedback' equals listening to their biggest streamers like Wudijo and Raxx, who are both D3 players. They threw away their own vision for the game and listened to what those guys wanted.
My complain for d4's story is the same as yours. Our playable character doesn't speak, as in they aren't as involved as the playable character in d3 was. And I loved the main character in d3 because they were made to be involved, they all had personalities and different goals even though the story was the same for all playable characters. Even though the goal was the same, to find the Fallen Star, all pursued it from various angles and had different motivations. The necromancer was sent by their master to investigate, the wizard thought it was a sign written in their destiny. But for d4, our playable character is some bloke who lost their horse and got dragged through a shitstorm. It felt for me like the necromancer in D4 wasn't a student in the Necropolis, but found a scamy add on the internet that said "Hey, do you want to be a real necromancer in 2 weeks? Complete our on line course and you'll become a certified necromancer without the hustles of reading hundreds of boring necromantic lore. Apply now and you'll get a 50% discount!" People speak of Rathma and Trag'oul, we see Rathma and go into his temples but the necromancer has no reaction, acts like the meme of the confused cat. "Ha? Ha? Whatever."
I hoped that they would have taken all the data over the last year and given the druid some skills with the new expansion that would help with early game.
the question really isn't if it's worth because comparatively the price isn't, but if you want to play you pretty much need it. the question for me is when it goes on sale or if they add it to xbox gamepass
I don't hate coop by any means. Just sucks that literally none of my friends play games anymore. Everyone just seemed to stop altogether in 2018... and none of the gaming friends I've made since then play diablo games. I've grouped with rando's for a couple wb/strongholds... but I've done everything else, ubers included solo. Maybe this means I'll group more often, idk. But I've had the dlc pre-purchased for a while. Just because I know we're never going to get target farmable wings. I never got them... but I had so much fun trying to get the cosmic wings. I was in a group where one of my friends got the drop though, and that was REALLY fuckin cool.
For just how much Rhykker stammered over himself trying to tell us how long the campaign was without really saying how long it was makes me worried that it's just typical blizzard 3-4 hour slop.
Reviewers are commenting 10 to 12 hours on normal difficulty. I just did in less than 7 and that wasnt in some efficient build or items. Its such a joke, they half assed what couldve been a solid 3 act story and gave us atleast the same quality as base D4 but instead it feels so jarringly quick paced single act. I want my money back man..the hell.
@@TheSlickJaylin Yeah I beat it already too. Don't even get me started on that stupid fuckin' story. Without mentioning specifics or anything, the fact that they dedicated basically this entire expansion to the "power of friendship" makes me wanna rip my hair out. Like they truly don't understand what makes Diablo, Diablo anymore. The fact that they took Diablo down the stupid ass WoW "Friendship is Magic!" route just pisses me off completely.
@@mariuswallentinsen2814 yes its a DLC but reviewers are stating its a much longer campaign then it actually is. It feels like a patch of storyline then an entire "expansion" see D2 lord of destruction and D3 Reaper of Souls.
I loved D3 its entire life, I liked D4 at launch but it lacked meaningful endgame in both chase items, gearing and actual content, I then came back for what I believe was season 4 (the season necro got minions uber buffed) and it felt like a completely different game but it was more enjoyable than launch due to better endgame. Now I feel myself wanting to come back again but it's very hard to justify spending money on an expansion when we have other ARPGs that are just as good if not BETTER than D4 is that are entirely free and don't force you to spend money for content, and are just happy to have you enjoying the game, and if you wish to support then you buy cosmetics. These devs from the other games also seem far more grounded and willing to do what is right for the game rather than what is right for the CEOs bank account, not to mention the CEOs on the other big ARPGs are just more human so you want to support them unlike Blizzard in the last 5 or so years.
i feel like charging for an expansion this early into D4's life is just insane. people are already sick of playing D4 and struggling for reasons to come back, now you want us to spend another $40 to see if it got any better? hard pass, there are plenty of other ARPGs out there
Great video. I always love your content even when I wasn't playing d4. I kept up with your videos and jumped back in for seasons 4 and 5 and really enjoyed how much the game has improved. I also really appreciate how you arent afraid to call out bad ot questionable things about it while also giving credit to all the good that has happened and is happening with the upcoming content.
@@pedaleou yeah out of everything they've added the wings are definitely my least favorite. Looks dumb in grimdark style world. Goood thing i dont have to buy\wear.
A semi-related question: can I start a spiritborn on seasonal and skip the original campaign and just pick up at the start of the vessel of hatred campaign? or do I need to continue from a character that has completed the first campaign only.
I am playing the expansion just to relax and have fun. OG Dad gamer here with not a lot of time to play anyway. I am looking forward to it without worrying about all the technical stuff.
Thank god. If I had a dollar for every comment who claims they are an "OG gamer dad" with multiple kids and wives with a 10 hour job and no time to play the game but still for some reason want optimized best in slot gear and will complain about it in the comments for Blizzard to change the game to revolve around them, I would be rich right now. Good to know there are some dads out there who realize their time constraints and just play to have fun and chill.
If i get to the point where I'm a gamer dad and have little to no time I would quit gaming altogether. Aint what it used to be and when they cater the game to such people the overall product is just worse. Makes no sense to pay that much money for something I can recap in a youtube video.
Rhykker you`re gold man! Your videos are always top when it comes to quality, quantity and how often you pop them! And they`re good even for background white noise while we do other stuff around... And after all those years - not a single disappointing one! Great to have you!
Druid doesn't use spirits in the gameplay. Besides the passive choice druid's spirits don't do anything, they don't influence the active skills on the bar. So no, it doesn't just rehash.
They are similar even though plenty of people disagree😂 the Druids commune with spirits of the realm of Sanctuary, protect nature and the balance of it. Meanwhile Spiritborn, commune with spirits, protect the spirit realm and protect the balance of it and Sanctuary. Interestingly enough, there is another class related to the two of them, which is Necromancers, who can control the spirits from the spirit realm and use them to protect Sanctuary. I see them as a triangle of classes that relate to each other in what they do and how they do it, while still being unique.
The story felt inconsequential and akin to what another game would add in a "season". It's really disappointing to see Blizzard put in so little with as big as they are.
Great review and video overall. I'm sad to hear that the story seems underwhelming, as this is the most important thing for me. Well, there are only three days to go.
Well, that is according to him, it might not be the same for you. I personally really enjoyed the story of D4, while plenty of people just skipped through it and found it boring🤷♂️
Why don’t they make it like D2 where you have to be a higher level to go into harder zones? Really made me actually care to level up and get stronger….
The game did do that at launch with monster level being higher in many of the zones outside of fractured peaks especially Hawezar. I personally wasn't a fan of that style simply because of the way the game is intended to be open world so gatekeeping sections of the world behind monster level didn't feel good when the devs themselves said the intent was for you to feel free to explore as you please while going through the campaign.
well if you look at all that promotional stuff and advertisements game's focus on people who doesn't play video games at first place. this is literally what cashgrab is, they try to lure clueless people to spend money on their bare minimum school project level product while training amateur developers on it.
Well D3 was not all bad, just half :D If they managed to keep the good stuff from it I'm fine. Just don't bring back infinite paragon and sets with 10000% bonus damage that locks you into using specific skills, and have a normal progression unlike D3 (Torment 1 + set = Max difficulty). From Rykkers video it seems that they did ok in this regard.
@@marsovaclocking you into playing a certain way was never the idea behind sets. The Devs who took over D2 from the original creators know nothing of what made Diablo and D2 great. I reality. D2R is the best Diablo game on the market. Its itemisation is damn near perfect. All the current Devs know is World of Warcraft and they are slowly trying Diablo onto that rubbish. The franchise has been dead to me since they got D3 so wrong. I was keen to see how D4 worked out, but actually, I think it’s worse in some ways. Luckily the dev team at Path of Exile know a thing or two and I’m excited for POE2 to keep the genre alive.
I'm thankful for Rhykker, DM, Rax and many other content creators that cover Diablo. I'm thankful for all the work they do because it has saved me a whole lot of time and money. Now I can avoid wasting anything on this because it sure as hell isn't Diablo to me. As far as I'm concerned, the Diablo franchise ended at it's peak, when Tyreal destroyed the World Stone. Thankful I experienced that Diablo and not this shit.
Quit serious how the Diablo partners are telling us if the game is worth the money. Kinda says it all. This expansion is not for me. Not for 30 dollars - not for 10 dollars. And D4 is sadly no longer for me at all. I took part in every season so far and killed Uber Lilith every season. I stuck with the game as well and got my moneys worth. But this paywall with majority of the expansion including features that simply do not interest me - I feel we are back to the same point we were at the launch of D4. With developers trying to tell us what we want - rather than actually delivering on a playable and enjoyable game. I did not ask for mercs, I did not ask for this new class, and I CERTAINLY did not ask for every boss in the new expansion to be locked behind CO-OP. Cause there is NO NEW UBER BOSS. Considering the TRIPLE dipping of Blizzard when it comes to D4 in terms of monetization - B2P, paid expansions, Battle Passes AND in game store, its simply not acceptable to take part in another paywall that does not actually deliver on the good solid ARPG experience. So - I'm out. Hope that those that bother will have fun. I still have plenty of enjoyable games that deliver even better gaming experience without nickel and diming me every time. Lets be grateful for those games like Elden Ring, BG3, Black Myth and soo many more that respect their players and actually deliver what players are after in gaming. See you in season 28! D4 uninstalled...
I can't wait to play ! Will you do videos going over changes to each class ? I'm curious how much if at all the rogue changed. I love the rogue mobility and hope it stayed.
Dude, it's so refreshing to hear someone with balanced takes. Really good review. I can't wait to pick the expansion up. I just need to finish Astrobot first 😂 But what a great few weeks of gaming for me!
Haven’t missed a Rhykker video for years and years now… 840 hours on D4… D4:VoH let’s go baby! 🎉🎉🎉 Since my PC Gamer D1 demo cd rom this game has been my everything…
Saying "D4 had some issues when it released" was kind. We all know the game was released at least a year before it should have. And after a year of finally turning it into the game it should have been on release, they decided to burn it to the ground and start over. Good thing Diablo games have a lot of loyal fans because this sort of thing normally causes players to leave in droves.
@@Daniel-rd6stthat’s where consoles have an edge. Astro Bot on the PS5 has been essentially flawless at launch and required no patches to provide all of its slated features

I'm looking forward to playing the expansion. The only thing that I am somewhat hesitant about is the multiplayer, while I have no problem with it being a thing, I don't really have friends that play D4 and therefore I am subjected to randoms which is...less than ideal.
Thanks for the video! As always, very solid content, proper nuances and I think overal pretty genuine, both the positive as well as negative feedback on the game and its progression. Gives me a lot of perspective
How easy is the dark citadel to be completed with just two people? My wife and I play and we usually just keep to ourselves. If we can do it just the two of us that would be nice and not forced to group up with more people. Also I really appreciate how honest you are about everything. It’s hard to find UA-camrs that bring us news on Diablo and are not honest about the game. Thank you
You can but it will be more difficult because they don't have it on a sliding scale for number of players. So can you? Yes, possibly, but it will definitely be more difficult than having 4 players.
"not feel as strong of a need for an overlay map" this is a terrible take, my #1 complaint from day 1 is the lack of an overlay map and i still keep having to open my map when im in the overworld constantly or dungeons i haven't been in as often. give me the option, they r so hardheaded about something so simple to add and so stupid not to add. honestly this problem could be caused by the terrible layout of the overworld tho, if i use a waypoint i can navigate better in overworld, but when not using it i end up taking some dead end that i have to backtrack for or just go the wrong way entirely.
Already bought it just becase I'm a huge fan of Diablo lore, but I really hate that they "deleted the nefalems". Still listening to your thoughs I hope you like it :D
Honestly as a big Diablo fan it’s sad to see everyone that is still holding on to this game hoping that they are going to turn it around. The devs of this game have proven to overpromise and under deliver. They either do not know how to think outside of the box or are not allowed to. I learned from my first mistake and did not purchase the expansion.
the unsatisfying part of the story is that we know they are going to charge us for a whole new expansion to get to the end of the story. For anyone asking if there is going to be a secret cow level in D4, it's us, we are the secret cow level...because Blizzard thinks we are here to be MILKED DRY!
Hey Rhykker! Hope you or someone else have the time to reply but my main question is: for a more casual player who plays just one or 2 hours here and there, is a seasonal character still the way to go or is a non seasonal just fine?
I appreciate the work on the video Rhykker, I typically don’t mind DM’s stuff but his review video is him reiterating the same sentence for 20 minutes.
Specifically go to the part where he talks about the dark citadel for 10 minutes straight. He points out that there are mechanics in this activity. Then points out that the mechanics cannot be done together. Then reiterates saying that the mechanics cannot be done together so they must be done alone. He proceeds to go on to say since the mechanics cannot be done together due to being separated. Furthermore since the mechanics cannot be done together you will be required to do them alone and have to depend on a partner because the mechanics have to be done alone. Additionally if the mechanics are done alone it means you have to rely on your partner to do their part since the mechanics are done alone and you can’t have a party member help you. With that said while alone if you die you fail because that mechanic had to be done alone without your party member, because they are not allowed to be with you. Because the mechanics have to be done alone. Go watch it and tell me I’m lying 😂
I liked him at first, and I dont dislike him now, but the charm wore off. His videos used to get right to the point, now they feed the algorithm and are longer than they need to be.
@@hoofhearted4yeah I think his stuff on D4 before he went above 100K subs in that blow up he did were great. Very to the point and direct. I do not dislike him as you said but his videos have become highly dragged out lately. It’s the same reason I eventually unsubbed to Rax. I had to start watching his videos at 1.5x playback because his speaking tempo is unbelievably slow. There is a difference between trying to emphasize a point and trying maintain that same emphasis with tempo for 20 minutes. I have been following Rhykker since 2014 and his speaking tempo is great. It’s quick but he slows when needed. Don’t get me wrong, if this is your game then make the money. It’s just become easy to notice which UA-camrs do the research and emphasize quality and others who ramble to meet a time mark.
The current gameplay loop is terrible and they haven't done anything to demonstrate that they are fixing it or that they even realize its a problem. Diablo is not Dynasty Warriors, I don't want to be running around blowing everything up without breaking stride. Modern ARPGs like D4 feel like instant gratification machines, it is WAY too easy. D4 is the biggest disappointment in my 25+ years of PC gaming, i will not be buying the expansion (which I would have assumed was unthinkable before D4 had been released). Maybe I will pick it up if it goes on sale for like $20 at some point so i can play the campaign for the story.
I kinda feel the same. I was someone who quite enjoyed D4's more measured pace and tactical combat encounters at launch. I think it would've definitely been possible to keep this feel while improving all the other aspects of the game that were criticized initially. Alas, seems these games are not made for us boomer gamers with our refined taste anymore :)
Nothing "modern" about that, D2 and D3 and to some degree even D1 were the same and thats why most of the playerbase was screaming for higher monster density over and over again.
Same here. I like the game and the expansion looks cool, but the pricepoint's the same as a full AA game and nobody seems to care. For my part, I'll definitely wait for a sale.
I miss the slow classic dungeon crawling with beautiful atmosphere. Diablo is NEVER going to be the best or most hardcore arpg. They had a beautiful atmospheric rpg and have turned it into a flashy casino game chasing their betters.
Yeah, it's so flashy we might as well call it D3 resurrected or remastered, 'cause it's the same thing. I thought D4 was gonna be darker, slower, and more methodical.
@@cinecastmedia But it was never this flashy. You can see your character doing stuff most of the time. Your characters in D4 now are just hidden behind a huge ammount of effects
Could you touch on what the experience for someone who isnt planning on buying the expansion right away will be like. I am gonna buy it but i have a few things higher on my priority list for now. Will i be able to play the season out or would it just not be worth playing until i get it?
Im sad that the pace has increased so much. I don't understand why people want such high pace that mechanics don't matter. All the different content and monsters ends up feeling more and more samey because you blast through it. Im curious if this change has made the playerbase more active or not, because i have a hard time seeing how removing depth makes the game more fun for the playerbase at large. I Feel like it's mostly a vocal minority, i.e. the reddit echo chamber, which has driven this change.
All arpgs are number crunchers to find a more efficient playstyle. They are always about efficiency. Running fast just means your better at making builds. I love this game even when I just pick what I think is best when I get there. I wear the gear I think is cool and yeah it's slower and requires a bit more gameplay skill. You don't have to blast if you don't want to.
The most fun I’ve ever had in diablo 4 was in season 2 with my under powered squishy rogue. I actually had to use the dodge mechanic, sip potions, and position myself properly 😱 Way too easy now.
@@heronwhisky Im refering to the pace of combat, which they can adjust simply with damage and health numbers and mob density. At launch D4 had much less mobs but combat was more drawn out. You can speed run any game and combat pace has nothing to do with it.. But ofc arpgs are made specifically for speed running.
Slower paced combat, done well, derives depth from providing clear avenues of success while simultaneously punishing mistakes. And many gamers tend to prefer this style because it facilitates the accumulation of mastery, which is deeply satisfying. But it genuinely isn't a style for all gamers. Many people just want to sit down, relax and feel powerful for a few hours, even if they haven't put in the time needed to EARN that power. So I don't really think this is an echo chamber situation. I think instead, D3 opened the door for a player base that is more interested in casual power and D4 is simply leaning into that.
Same. I never liked classes that could sh*t on whole screen with some animations and so. For me it's overdesigned and eh... I guess boring? Like all action and 0 fluff. It's not a character, it's superhero knockoff.
As someone who bought the game on launch and angry I spent $70 on it, I will not buy this expansion or any others. Diablo 4 was in a no win situation from the start because Blizzard tripped over their own feet and ego. The player base was split between those that wanted a newer D2 like experience and those that wanted more from the D3, and Blizzard basically picked a little from both groups and didn't include any QoL lessons learned from the past. What we got was a D3 that looked like D2 with poor itemization and no real end game activities. Following launch, the D2 camp slowly trickled away while the D3 camp became the vocal majority. Now we have what is basically D3 2.0. It's not "going back to the Diablo roots". It is still just a digital store front with nice cinematics and a mini game based on nostalgia
I have always had a problem when it takes forever to max out a character when there are 6 to play. I like how many of the stuff to level has become common across all your characters.
I played the heck out of Diablo (one) right after I got out of high school quite a bit. I even have the unofficial expansion, Hellfire for it and played the Monk. D2 when it came out I must have played it non-stop for 3-5 years... In fact I know how long it was, I played from the time of release until the version 1.4 of World of Warcraft was released, which I believe was late 2005? Because it was WoW that took over my addiction from Diablo 2. When Diablo 3 came out I didn't like it a whole lot, then Reaper of Souls came out and I fell in love with it. I think by the time I stopped playing Diablo 3 I might have put more time into D3 than D2. I played from about Season 3 to season 12-14 or some such thing. I was one of the guys that liked both games a lot, and still liked D3 more than D2. D4 I got at launch, but never beat it because I just got bored, and that really made me sad that a series I loved so much was boring me. This expansion review makes me want to buy the expansion and give the game another shot. My only problem now is that after having played games like this for so long, literally over 25 years now, I have some kind of carpal tunnel issue going on with my clicking finger, and after just a few minutes of playing a game like Diablo, that finger hurts terrible now, so I need to figure out how to use an autoclicker and alternate ways of playing the game or I feel like my finger is going to end up completely crippled. Sucks, cause it's really had a major impact on the kinds of games I can play anymore. ARPGs are games I really cannot play anymore as a result unless I find a new way to play that doesn't require me to use my right pointer finger.
@35px My kids use controllers in a lot of their PC games. I used to scoff at the idea, but you're probably right that it would be a good alternative for me. And considering I basically cannot play arpgs or other rapid click games, I may have no other choice but to learn if I want to keep playing.
@@RicoLen1 controler is a viable option. They also added a sort of auto click in the options of the game. You also have macro and auto click from gaming mouse drivers. And yes if you like Diablo franchise and was bored at D4 launch I guess you will like it now. Réinstaller the game and just give a small shot at the current Season (5) you will already see lots of good changes. If you like S5 I think you will like the expansion.
When Diablo IV first came out I played exclusively on a controller, and it is absolutely a great experience. They perfected it from the Diablo 3 console launch, definitely give it a shot. It's super comfy and intuitive.
Once upon a time, I was a hard core mouse/keyboard purist and I definitely made fun of my console friends for their "inferior" controllers. 😅 But now, I play basically every PC game I can with a controller. And it is unequivocally a better gaming experience across the board, with the sole exception being strategy games. Granted, part of the reason I switched was absolutely pain related. But honestly, when a game is built with controllers in mind by folks who understand what qualities they bring to the table, the experience is more intuitive, more immersive, and absolutely more comfortable. But full disclosure, you are giving up precision for all those benefits and in some games that is genuinely a problem. But I've been playing D4 on PC with a controller since launch and I can assure you, its not a game that has that problem.
some really cools things in this xpac. some things I don't like either. i really am not a fan of all the difficulties. i feel like it just segments the playerbase so much. and no matter how hard they try, people are still going to feel like they **need** to hit torment 4, and if its too hard, the casual crowd will complain, thus making the game even easier than it was before
To be fair it is absolutely not the worth money, because "Blizzard" are baiting people to buy the expansion by making the "Jungle Druid" so much more stronger then the other classe, that you'll wanna buy the expansion. Another reason is that they try to push a "Jungle Druid" as something new, yet the community has been calling for the Paladin since launch, we still don't have a holy warrior class. Calling the so called Spiritborn anything else then Jungle Druid, and teying to push the idea they pull their power from some spirit realm that no other class does, please then enlighten me, where do the spirits the druid communes with come from.
It’s crazy because I saw people in these comment sections months ago saying “this game is going to turn into Diablo 3.5” and they absolutely fucking nailed it
remember when D4 used to be presented as a return to D2 and what it used to be after people were generally disapointed with the direction D3 drove the franchise towards,... ahhh those were the days....
I played D4 on launch and the first few seasons but I've fallen off. Every change I hear about is just adding something that D3 had. I already played D3 for years, I don't need to keep playing it for even more years without end.
@@masonhugsan229 so your counterpoints are a useless open world where most content is in instanced dungeons, and a different graphic for walking around?
D3 player only here. Trying to get back into d4 (i bought it and played half a season and haven't played since)... D3 had no endgame direction but it was rifts and then greater rifts were obvious... I don't know what the hell to do in d4. Where to level? Where to get gear? What gear? Where to fight bosses? How? How many summon items? Where to get those? Bosses drop...? Idk maybe I just suck at the game... but I did fairly good at d3. I never had a deep and thorough understanding of every aspect of the game but I did good every season and was doing as good as anybody else. Bounties to get mats... Rifts and greater rifts for levels and items... The endgame of every season was just trying to perfect the equipment so that the rift tier 150 could be ran or see how high you could get. The seasonal challenges rewarded seasonal sets... Diablo 4 seems more confusing. What are pits? Hordes? Dungeons? Nightmare dungeons? Where's the bosses? Where should I farm exp? Where should I farm loot? I don't know what I don't know so what else am I missing? Like, legion and world bosses? Helltides? Temper? Masterwork? Some of it I've figured out but most of it just seems pointless or without direction. Like I said, I'm probably just bad at the game but I can't be the only one
I don't think its just you. I think it has more to do with the fact that, over the last year, D4 has both added to the "what do I need to progress" question and moved almost everything that was originally part of that question from one system to another. I'm a pretty casual player, but I do spend a lot of time digging into theory crafting, so eventually I did end up figuring all of this junk out for myself. But I've had to do that multiple times now. And it sounds like everything is changing once again. I'm hopeful that maybe, finally, this latest shake up with Vessel will be the last one and, going forward, we'll start seeing systems that add to the formula rather than rewriting it. But this is also the biggest shift yet... So its very likely that some things won't fit quite right and yet more changes will be needed. But we'll see.
@SauceGPT UA-cam farm experience anywhere and everywhere i like Helltides in particular the red area on the world map. Dungeons are kinda obvious also look on world map and what do you mean you don't know where to get gear it's just like any Diablo gear drops off enemies and as far as "what gear" D4 doesn't have set items just look up a UA-cam video for God sakes and bosses you don't worry about them until end game in which you will need certain items to summon said boss and again, UA-cam VIDEO
It's actually not very different I started playing about 2 weeks ago. It took me some time to figure things out but reading or listening to a few guides and how to upgrade your items helps you to understand what is going on. D3 was simpler. This is just the same thing divided into parts. There are 2 types of item enhancements. Temperaments and masterworking. Temperament adds 2 new affixes to your items. While masterworking improves current affixes by %5 and by %25 for every 4th upgrade. You also have glyphs now which you need to level via certain activities. Which will change in VoH. Different activities used to give different amounts of materials infernal hordes being the best of all as far as I know. I'm not sure how things will be in VoH. It really isn't that different from D3 except having different types of activities which are limited by certain item drops. so that people won't complain about doing the same thing over and over. In the end it's all about killing stuff as many times as possible in as little time as possible to increase your likelihood of having the items you want. As long as you have the right build, nothing is really challenging just time consuming. Yesterday I switched from fireball to lightning spear. I immediately killed Uber Lilith did IH 2 tiers higher with ease etc.
You are not bad at the game. The game guide that should be in the game is absent. Leaving gamers to have more and more questions. Sure feel the game, and play the game are some comments that can be thrown around. But i get what you are saying, the lack of information from the game it self makes the game tedious. Especially for gamers who has a limited time to put in to a grinding game. You have my empathy but as of how i do and i wouldn't say i am D4 God, but i am a D4 nerd/geek. I would say due to the state of the game right now after the changes, just try to keep "references" from D2/D3 away and not allow them to interfere with your gameplay experience. All together i would say do not even treat D4 as any Diablo game. I hope that way would put ur frustration aside and you would be treating D4 as a whole new ARPG. Could help, i cant say this is a flawless method, but this would be my best advice at this point. When it comes to the DLC i have commented so many times and i still stand by my opinion of the DLC being to expensive.
I feel the same way. I climbed gr's across multiple seasons on different classes, meanwhile I played d4 on launch and come back in interesting seasons but I never make it to max level and complete my paragon board beacuse I feel like I'm aimlessly running around and trying to figure stuff out. I'm coming back for vessel of hatred and hope I don't bounce off this time
THANK YOU. You’re the only person who sees the game and its evolution for what it is. When D4 came out, everyone claimed they wanted it to be more like D2 than D3. Blizzard literally gave gamers what they claimed to want, but gamers didn’t actually want what they thought they wanted. As D4 has turned more into D3, people like it more. It’s soooo stupid. This is a perfect example of gamers not actually always wanting what they say they want.
D4 has never been like d2, despite what was being promised since day 1. The runewords were brought back from d2, was shown during alpha of the game, scrapped till now it's lock to only the Xpac. Worst is it's not even remotely close to the original runeword system. They sell the speech, not the actual product.
I miss the slower pace but I guess that's an unpopular opinion.
Diablo 2 was really like you explained and always was since it dropped... So nothing modern here!
D2 end game was enigma and blessed hammer. Disco screen meta was since d2
The open world being mostly useless is kind of ironic. Huge open world, but everything takes place in a small dungeon
They should fix it
you ever farmed blood maiden in the helltides? Imo this comment shows you haven't really played the game lol
@@DemonKnight85it never felt empty are you playing on a sega genesis?
Kind of odd ? I do blood Maiden in open world , legion events , strongholds, world bosses. Now realmwalkers are coming. There's a lot dungeon stuff I do grouped. Not everything in the open world needs to be done together.
Im glad the "not a Raid" Raid can be done with two people only i mostly play D4 with the wife, and she mostly plays with me, or we play solo. We are glad that we dont need to have two random people to play with to enjoy everything the game has to offer for now

What do u mean looking forward to vessel of hatred in particular spirit born, they come together
@@TheRealBatCave I mean that i am looking forward to vessel of hatred, and especially to the part that the spirit born will be playable then.
Speedy boy!
The bff comment made me smile JAJA

Would be great if down the line we were forced to bring Lilith back to help in our fight, maybe a few expacs away
Lilith was not a villain, she literally created us. I don't know how you can not side with her.
she would be a good villain if you could join her. The idea of her was great.
@@majorbloodlol that would have been a way to be innovative
Anyway let's all enjoy S6… I'm gonna be blasting it all I can 😜
@@d4mephisto Without flame or hate; I believe it's more accurate to say it's D3 player base that are very happy with D4 change.
@@d4mephisto well, you haven't been paying attention then
I see the A but not the RPG. as someone more interested in the blood than the numbers, the only saving grace for this update is my experience Diablo 3 midway through the Torment tiers when I said, "I get the idea" and moved onto experiences a little more intimate and connected to the action on screen. this looks like an experience worth having but you put your 2 quarters in and then get off the machine when you've had enough.
Hey Rhykker, this is Folks!
Hey folks, I'm dad
What is this, joke from 4 years ago?
I don't understand why this narrative keeps getting pushed about creating your own build. EVERY VERSION OF D4 HAS HAD THAT. The problem is that people still gravitate towards the best builds and taking builds that are severely underperforming will always result in worse results. At this point I feel like it's smoke being blown up my ass when I hear this from people. I think it's even more ridiculous with D4 since the skill system is completely underwhelming so very few builds are even something that I would call "unique" at this point.
I always called the skill trees in D4 just skill roads because there is so little choice you actually have.
I enjoyed D3 played a lot but still I wish they kept the pace state of the game at launch regarding item rarity and "darker tone" (Skill FX being too present over the environment with vivid colors)... seems the direction pointed more to what D3 gameplay and visual appeal was after all.
yes the downgrade to d3 is what made me stop playing. i don't pay any amount of money to play d3 again
Well d4 have darker tone than d3... so yoy got what you wanted or I'm misunderstanding?
@@marekpopioek7259 You're right I mean the skill FXs going crazy besides that D4 visuals is a lot better than any diablo ever made for me...
The problem was (and still is) that Blizz thought 'listening to player feedback' equals listening to their biggest streamers like Wudijo and Raxx, who are both D3 players.
They threw away their own vision for the game and listened to what those guys wanted.
Timestamps = You win!
Wayy less ads!! = AWESOME!!
Keep up the nice work @Rhykker!
Apply now and you'll get a 50% discount!"
People speak of Rathma and Trag'oul, we see Rathma and go into his temples but the necromancer has no reaction, acts like the meme of the confused cat. "Ha? Ha? Whatever."
I hoped that they would have taken all the data over the last year and given the druid some skills with the new expansion that would help with early game.
I really like how you said the campaign includes teaching players the systems of the game, a "hidden tutorial" I think that's great game design
the question really isn't if it's worth because comparatively the price isn't, but if you want to play you pretty much need it.
the question for me is when it goes on sale or if they add it to xbox gamepass

Is it me or is the D4 VFX color palette slowly trying to creep toward more vivid colors?
Not just you😂 every season has been increasing the colors.
Goddamnit they better turn back on this lol
yup that's started after they introduced wings and pets... anything more related to D3 audience that loves it.

Excellent video Rhykker, and really appreciate your consideration of spoilers. Such a clean video, one of your best!
A semi-related question: can I start a spiritborn on seasonal and skip the original campaign and just pick up at the start of the vessel of hatred campaign? or do I need to continue from a character that has completed the first campaign only.
You can skip the campaign and start at the beginning of the DLC story👍
@@eddyram4932 Thank you!
I will definitely wait until a sale comes in for 20bucks and then I might give it a shot
Wise choice, maybe even free with GamePass. It is very underwhelming.
@@StevenNguyenJason gamer dad here and had the game since launch and my main character is just level 92. I'm fine with that.
If i get to the point where I'm a gamer dad and have little to no time I would quit gaming altogether. Aint what it used to be and when they cater the game to such people the overall product is just worse. Makes no sense to pay that much money for something I can recap in a youtube video.

You're too kind, thanks man
"Spirit Born uses animal spirits." Doesn't that just rehash the playstyle of the druid?
Druid doesn't use spirits in the gameplay. Besides the passive choice druid's spirits don't do anything, they don't influence the active skills on the bar. So no, it doesn't just rehash.
Druid is a elementalist/lycan warrior. They are not similar at all
They are similar even though plenty of people disagree😂 the Druids commune with spirits of the realm of Sanctuary, protect nature and the balance of it.
Druids work with spirits.
Yes, and by analogy, rouges are the same thing as amazons because they both are using bows, you're smart men
I trust your review the most and it is also the easiest to digest the parts that matter to me. Thank you.

@rhykker Thank you for the NO SPOILER reviews.
I feel that in many ways, game design has regressed over the past two decades, streamlining out all the fun.
well if you look at all that promotional stuff and advertisements game's focus on people who doesn't play video games at first place. this is literally what cashgrab is, they try to lure clueless people to spend money on their bare minimum school project level product while training amateur developers on it.
I personally find your review to be the gold standard, really appreciate it ❤
So Diablo 4 now more accurately should be called Diablo 3.5. 😉
Yup and HoMM 6 should be called, Heroes 1.6
No
Really yes@@PhantomGardener
Well D3 was not all bad, just half :D
If they managed to keep the good stuff from it I'm fine.

Well sadly its a rather common occorence nowadays, that games get released unfinished. BG3 is one of the few notable exeptions i can think of.

Git gud
personally I cant stand watching guys play poe as they all have the ugly map overlay on constantly... so so ugly..
Yup. Especially when overworld is stale and not random and we already have a map! Just let us sdjust opacity and do it.

Rhykker, in your opinion, which expansion should I get the base game or the one with the extras in it.
You had me at Jungle Monk, will definitely try this out. Missing the monk variant, if this is the closest to then will have to do.
the unsatisfying part of the story is that we know they are going to charge us for a whole new expansion to get to the end of the story.
What was the sentence?
@@hoofhearted4 passion vs profit
Well...your opinion sure did help't me on how im going to build my spiritborn 🙏🏻👍🏻
Agreed. What happened to dungeon CRAWL?
It was either too difficult to get your dream gear or too easy. Developer doesn't seem to get the sweet spot.
Nothing "modern" about that, D2 and D3 and to some degree even D1 were the same and thats why most of the playerbase was screaming for higher monster density over and over again.
Been waiting for you
I will get the bundle of expansions when they lower the price of it.

Saying it is like Diablo 3 really turned me off.
How is it become a flashy casino game? D2 and POE has been like that in the endgame where everything in the screen just blows up
@@cinecastmedia But it was never this flashy. You can see your character doing stuff most of the time. Your characters in D4 now are just hidden behind a huge ammount of effects
@@cinecastmedia If you think D2 is a casino game, you must think Super Mario 3 is a Casino game, too.
I actually had to use the dodge mechanic, sip potions, and position myself properly 😱
Way too easy now.
@@rozorahk For sure, i loved season 2!

I can say so about barb. Nothing interesting. Really. But still OP af
Same. I never liked classes that could sh*t on whole screen with some animations and so. For me it's overdesigned and eh... I guess boring? Like all action and 0 fluff. It's not a character, it's superhero knockoff.
Is there no new monster affixes in the expansion? i'm looking at the video I can only see the old ones: Waller, Mortar, Fire enchanced etc?
You might want to try using a controller. It is certainly a different experience, but not bad for a more casual style of play.
But now, I play basically every PC game I can with a controller.
Let's get Ry to 1 mill followers this yr c'mon peeps

some really cools things in this xpac. some things I don't like either. i really am not a fan of all the difficulties. i feel like it just segments the playerbase so much. and no matter how hard they try, people are still going to feel like they **need** to hit torment 4, and if its too hard, the casual crowd will complain, thus making the game even easier than it was before
To be fair it is absolutely not the worth money, because "Blizzard" are baiting people to buy the expansion by making the "Jungle Druid" so much more stronger then the other classe, that you'll wanna buy the expansion.
Not buying until there's a discount then, got it. Thanks Rhykker.
To me is sad news. I thought I was paying for a new Diablo game, not a tweaked D3.
My thoughts exactly 💯
It’s crazy because I saw people in these comment sections months ago saying “this game is going to turn into Diablo 3.5” and they absolutely fucking nailed it

I loved D3, but not this. So not all D3 players are happy with the direction things have moved in either.
remember when D4 used to be presented as a return to D2 and what it used to be after people were generally disapointed with the direction D3 drove the franchise towards,... ahhh those were the days....
They were utilizing nostalgia to farm d2 fans. But now the secret is out they farm the d3 fans.
It's all about sales and money
I played D4 on launch and the first few seasons but I've fallen off. Every change I hear about is just adding something that D3 had. I already played D3 for years, I don't need to keep playing it for even more years without end.
do you had open world in d3? ddo you had mounts in d3? i can continue ask such questions till end of time
@@masonhugsan229 so your counterpoints are a useless open world where most content is in instanced dungeons, and a different graphic for walking around?
@masonhugsan229 Boring poorly designed open world with no atmosphere and ponies that serve as extra income in the store 😂? Wow but this is "cool".
If you just bought the base game, should you get the expansion right away or wait?
They sell the speech, not the actual product.
wow i checked your channel at the right time, I'm really REALLY looking forward to this
3rd best arpg lol Rhykker doesn't want to lose his collab with Blizzard :)
