- Mark gives an update to the original GX550 cons of ownership video. Fuel capacity, climate control, and other original cons mentioned. At the end of the video, Mark also gives an ownership update and his overall opinion on the GX550.
You know a car is great when even "cons" video is full of praises.
@@TheStepjan I don't think with my emotions I think with my brain. So many people are already defending the gx550 like if it's a long lost loved one that just came home. It's ridiculous!
Not really. A car that expensive doesn’t even have rear air controls 😂😂😂. Come on. That’s a 20k car range
Not a Lexus !
@@ssing7113 its like you didnt listen to the video.
Potential engine issues with these rigs (look up tundra engine failures with this engine). Maybe in 3-4 years IF they work out the kinks I’d get one. Keeping my LX570 and 4R seem like a wiser option. A lightly used GX460 would also be a safer bet than these new gen lexus/toyota trucks.
We have created a society where we are so comfortable that we complain about things that didn’t even exist 50 yrs ago.
In July my parents packed my 8yr old butt and 4yr old sister up in a civic and drove from Abilene Tx to Los Angeles.
Agree !
And how much was their car. Was it inflation Adjusted 90k 😂
No. It wasn’t.
No one is complaining about this or that. It’s about what you paid for and what you got.
50 years ago they didn't charge over $80k for cars, their all insane
If I paid $90K for a "luxury" SUV, I'd complain about the rear climate as well.
I am waiting for my Premium plus to arrive. So glad it has the overhead vents living in South Florida. Thanks for all of your experience
Did you order it? I have two dealers I can buy from but they do not have any 550's on the lot.
231 miles for a full tank is horrible.
lol, bruh I'm glad I went with a Land Cruiser 250 just off that alone
@ yeah, I got a tundra 5.7 full tank almost 600 miles.
@@perounsam nice what year tundra?
@ 21 pro
@@perounsam ill check them out. That's good range.
231 mile range from a full tank? the mpg is that bad?
Replaced that incredible V8 for better MPG. Eeesh
Disappointed and as expected! My ‘23 GX 460 gets about the same range with highway and town driving. On long trips I get 21 MPGs easily.
I think I get more with my modified gx460 about 300
Love this truck, I can live with the poor mpg although using premium sucks. What kills it for me is that range … 250-300 miles range? Are they trying to compete with EVs on that stat? Some of them are actually claiming better range than this. I can’t wrap my head around who came up with this… this tuck need 400-450 range at least.
Yes 😂
Thanks for taking the time to make this follow up video. I’m on the waitlist and debating between it and a Tahoe.
Same.. stuck between this or a Tahoe. I know the GX will hold up in resale and quality will be there for many years to come.
@@rybread_4940 I think GMC is right next to Lexus in reliability, don't know about resale, also it's a lot nicer interior, I'm actually now looking there myself due to the poor execution by Lexus/toyota on the gx
Lesson learned from the video: If you have children in car seats, get the GX Premium or Luxury. Leave the Overtrail trim for childless people :)
Haha - could be true for dog owners too! Who knows!
What a beautiful car you have. Thanks for all the information. Good video.
I'd take the money for this GX550, and go buy a slightly certified used 2021 LX570..... so much better.... that's exactly what i did this past spring 2024... took my $80,000 to buy a CPO 2021 LX570 with just 23k miles on the odometer ftom a Lexus dealer.. I bought a $2500 extended warranty policy for 6 years UNLIMITED mileage. .. so i am good gor 6 years with ZERO repair cost... I get 19 mpg combine... I'm happy...
I agree with everything you said, except there’s no way you’re getting 19 mpg combined.
7000lb towing vs 9000lb though.
Thanks bc I was thinking the same thing my mom had a 2000 Of 470 she paid cash for and it lasted forever and now she's 79 and newly diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer that bc of GOD is at level 1 treatable w a monthly shot so since her car got stolen I've been thinking of getting a Lexus SUV and after hearing the GX gas mileage I will be copying you lol she turns 80 in Sept but ages backwards looking 60 ish and want to surprise her GODS WILL THANKS FOR THE IDEA
I took delivery of my OT+ in late August. Now have about 7700 miles on it. Over Thanksgiving , I took it on a several hundred mile road trip with 4 adults and cargo area filled. Over that trip my best mileage was 18 mpg. Now I thought that was pretty good considering the load, and after that trip my range estimation on a full tank jumped up to 280 miles; had been about 230 miles range like you. My city mpg is 14. EPA numbers overestimate the MPG.
I have the roof rack like you and it does make extra nose but nothing concerning.
Love the OT+ but with a few caveats. At this price point, the seats should be authentic leather, not “nu luxe” fake leather. I’ve had other Lexus vehicles and know what quality leather could be. Also, the driver seat cushion is too flat and the faux leather stretches a bit and wrinkles a bit, but goes back into shape eventually. That would not happen with real leather.
Next, the OT+ should have the video based rear view mirror available, like the top trip LC250 and the Luxury trim. If any trim could use that, it is the OT since the cargo area is likely to be maxed out and block visual through the rear window.
Next, the side mirrors are easily opened by car washes, though folded in toward the window. I don’t like that because I’m concerned the mechanism will break. Again, not a problem in my prior Lexus vehicles.
It almost feels like the Lexus has “decontented” the 550.
Next, the GX doors close and sound “tinny”…not as solid as my prior Lexus products, and definitely not like a G Wagen. Yet the vehicle weighs 5700 lbs.
I’ve taken off road onto forest service trails and the 4x systems are great. I haven’t driven it in snow, so I would like your opinion on that experience and with the OEM Toyo tires.
The fun part is that I’m not the only one who thinks it’s great looking. I am approached regularly at gas stations or other places and people ask me about it. The model remains relatively rare on roads, even here in California.
Again, I have no regrets and a very pleased with my GX550 OT+, and glad I snagged it before the OT price jumps over $3000 for the 2025 model. Hope to keep mine a long time.
Agree with everything you said. Good analysis. Haven’t had an issue with the mirrors at car washes locally though. I am “LX curious”… but $115k for the new lx700h overtrail feels like a big number for only incremental differences
@@NorthoftheWallGarage No doubt the LX would be an impressive vehicle. Especially the Overtrail trim. But I’m not yet a fan of the hybrid power train at least as found in the LC250. But the LX would probably have the version from the Tundra. Thanks for the honest GX reviews
What you mentioned in con is the area that is my top concern for my feeling about GX 550.
i wonder if the lack of additional rear vents is for structural rigidity. The Overtrail trim is specifically designed to go off-roading. Broncos for example, granted their panels come off, don't even offer rear vents at all.😮
Interesting thesis - haven’t heard that expressed anywhere else but makes sense I suppose
The point about the rear vents I agree 100% with. The vents is the ceiling make all the difference.
Welcome to plastic Lexus.
You make great points about the rear vents and I would also take issue if I had young kids like you do
Been looking forward to this one! Thank you Mark for your transparency and taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences with us.
Thank you! Really appreciate the kind words and your viewership. Hope you get that GX550 soon if you don’t already have it!
When you find a quality auxiliary fuel tank, please let us all know how to get it!
I just bought the 2025 Land Cruiser 2 weeks ago and love it but have to say the overtrail in this color looks fantastic, best out of the two for sure. Happy you mentioned the hood flutter, seeing the same thing on the cruiser.
Congratulations! Land Cruiser is awesome. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the update! I receive my OT+ in a few weeks..just hit the port. I noticed you didn't mention any reverse brake squeal? I read that is a common issue. I kept going back and forth between the GX and the LC, but the engine won me over in the GX even though the mileage is pretty poor. It seems a bit worse than what I was getting in my GX460. I recall around 16 or so in the city with it, but its been a few years since I've had it. Overall looking forward to being back in a GX!
I have had the brake squeal and am pending a fix for that. It’s gotten better recently without doing anything, so I’m sure it’s partially climate / moisture related
Brake squeal on my 550 OT is known issues. Warranty covered it no problem
Thank you for pointing out the car seat situation.
This video definitely helped me take this off my list with the limited range in particular and the hood business. I was already iffy being that the trim I would have picked Luxury+ doesn’t offer a sunroof that opens, which is so ridiculous to me. Looks good though and love the green.
Thanks for the feedback. I’d still give it a drive before you officially write it off. I don’t mention it much but for such a trucky platform, I feel that it drives really well. Especially apparent when I drive other comparable SUVs during my travels. Good luck with your search!
I hear they may release a hybrid version in the next model year.
Glad all my kids are grown, and climb in and out of the truck on their own. They also can tie their shoes, and cook. I just want the truck cause it looks cool.
Interesting that you say the 550 is “much better” than the 460 in the snow. I’ve driven my 460 in snow many times and it is extremely composed in snowy weather. I literally have to work to make it break traction in snow🤷🏼♂️
My 460 was excellent and got me through a once in 50 year insane blizzard where I was in a serious situation needing to make it 3 miles away. I will always love that truck and platform. The 550 has a much more tech focused approach to traction and terrain and you can feel it… could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your perspective. For me, I enjoy how sure footed it is and feel very confident in its abilities.
Lexus really missed an opportunity with this vehicle. People are buying them but when the gas prices go up, again, they'll be in trouble. Ridiculous that they eliminated the V8 for something that gets worse MPG's.
I think sales will slow as the hype dissipates and when people cross shop, it lacks a lot in comparison to rivals, sadly so, I hope lexus addresses the issues.
Appreciate the video. Im a Gx460 owner needing to upgrade to a newer vehicle. Your video is full of insight that will allow me to choose the best option for my young family. Happy holidays!
Thank you! Happy holidays!!
@@NorthoftheWallGaragenice video. I did upgrade from the 460. After 6 months with the 550 in Texas in can tell you you can put 2 gallons after the pump stops so your range can go up to 350 miles (70/30 highway/city) in my case. Happy holidays.
Awesome truck! I wish I was more patient and waited for that to come out instead of buying a 4runner. Even though I do love it, I like the look of that better!
Nothing wrong with the 4Runner! All time classic. Enjoy!
It has been quite long since your last video. I also have OT+ and live in NY area so I am waiting your updates like waiting for a letter form a friend. I just change my oil right before snow but couldn't finish tire rotation unfortunately. Great to hear you again.
Thank you! Your comments mean the world to me. I was tempted to do an early oil change as well but stayed against it… only a few more months. Hope you have a great holiday season with your friends and family
@@NorthoftheWallGarage Wow! I'm so glad to hear that. I did the first oil change at 1,000 miles and after that every 3K miles. I know it sounds bit too much but this is my first turbos (even two turbines) engine so I want to be as cautious as possible. And also 5 tire rotation every 3K miles also. Dealer, they don't do 5 tires rotation (I don't know why) so I do i always. I found this information form Australia LC300 manual so it's right method for the vehicle with a full size non-directional spare tire equipped vehicle. I'm sorry if I'm saying too much. Happy holidays.
Totally get it and I don’t blame you at all. Enjoy in good health!
I have the OT+ trim, with Nori/Onyx/Chateau. I am also located in NY (Hudson Valley) and have yet to see another Nori in my area. As a matter of fact, i’ve only seen around five GX550s since I got mine in July. I’ve actually seen many more cyber trucks! 😂
Anyway, I have 9k on mine and I agree with all of your critiques. I really don’t understand the roof vent deletion…very annoying! But, I absolutely love the truck and am very happy with it overall. No regrets thus far. Made a trip to Florida in October, and averaged 21 mpgs. The local driving is definitely much worse where I average around 16 mpgs. The fuel tank is definitely too small and I will be installing an auxiliary option if or when one becomes available. My hood flutter is almost nonexistent but it’s there. Not something I think about or notice. I did have a brake squeal, which is a known issue, and had it repaired by the dealer. The only other thing that I had to get fixed was the passenger side massage seat which stopped working. It is another known issue and a simple fix. Thanks for this update!
Love to hear it - sounds like we’ve had the same experience. Glad you’re enjoying it!!!
@ yup! So far, so good!
OMG!!! Maybe, I think that I saw you. I have an earth/black/black OT+ and I'm in Hudson Valley area.
@@jsda77 it’s possible! I still haven’t seen an Earth “in the wild” but love that color! I’m in Putnam County. Ironically, I saw a Trail Dust Land Cruiser this morning. Pretty close to Earth. Good luck with your rig!
@@rayandolina11 Another OMG!!!!! Even, same county!!!!! I did really mild green laning at Sunken Min Road few months ago. All features were great and OT+ is definitely right choice.
Great video. If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do for work?
Thanks! I have an accounting background
Stupid vehicle. You just know that twin turbo v6 is gonna be a nightmare in 6-8 years.
Great video!
No one has mentioned the issue with the lack of ceiling cents on the overtrail!
What’s the ride quality like? I thought they would have air suspension.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Ride quality is fine for us. No air suspension and it’s certainly not a Range Rover or S class. But if you’re used to trucks I think it’s pretty good
Weird, in Australia the overtrail model has ceiling vents for the rear passengers
Wow - I wonder if this was a weird early production issue
Though to my knowledge, US bound 2025s have the same setup
No idea, I find there’s always small differences between countries, but yes ours definitely do have rear passenger A/C vents in the roof..
In the US i think you guys have like 5 or 6 different variants of the GX, we only have 3, Premium, Luxury, and Overtrail
The small fuel tank is a issue. I hate having to go to the gas station all the time.
thanks this makes me happy waiting for my basic premium plus more videos please
Thank you for your thoughtful review. I’ve been considering a gx550 for my wife, but seeing a range displayed as 230ish miles is not realistic. If it got at least as much as my 2008 RX350, e.g. 320 miles upon fill up, would be tolerable.
I’d still go and drive one. Agreed if you’re looking for a true commuter and not necessarily a do it all truck, there are better options. Especially if efficiency is a priority
Is it just us or do these cars have no real warning system for an empty tank. It seems to inform you 10 miles before you’re out of gas and there’s no chime or anything so you’re left to just remember it on your own. Is that a malfunction for our vehicle or does everyone else experience the same thing?
This is true.. I think it’s because the reserve is really so huge (4 gallons give or take). So even if you’re on “empty” there’s plenty left to get you to a station. Wish they would push out a software update to make the range more in line with tank capacity
For sure. It’ll say 10 miles and if there’s more than that, then it shouldn’t say 10 miles. It lets me know when I’m in a school zone, the temperature, it alerts me that I need to keep my eyes on the road, yet something as simple and necessary as a low tank warning is all of a sudden extremely complicated?! Oh well! 🤷🏻♂️ Anyways, thank you so much for your reply! Appreciate it! 😊
Nice truck. I usually wait a year or two before I buy a car in order for them to fox all issues of a new mode. I will buy mine in 2026.
I put a deposit on a 550 Overtrail and after thinking about it more I cancelled the order. My '18 Land Cruiser has a far nicer interior and 4 overhead AC vents in the back. The outside temperature doesn't matter, the interior is as cold as you want.
And after seeing 14mpg City mentioned for the 550, I'll keep my V8. The mileage is about the same and with my near 25 gallon tank I've got much better range. Highway mileage is over 19mpg with cruise set at 60 and about 17 if set at 70. I'm also worried about long term reliability with the super complicated drivetrain of the 550.
Now if the LC 300 GR Sport were offered in the US I'd buy that in a second.
That’s fair. Inflation adjusted a Lc200 was more expensive vehicle. Any thoughts about the lx700h overtrail?
Don't care for Lexus design. And I prefer the anonymity of the Land Cruiser.
Same. Never selling my LC200. Kid can have it and his friends will wonder why it’s built like a tank
Didn't realize the lack of vents or rear climate control / camera options when comparing LC250 with GX550 OT. Also totally agree with the small tank size and the incredibly annoying "reserve fuel" calibration of the fuel gauge. I'd rather know exactly how much gas I have left than a "guesstimate".. it really bothered me that the low fuel light would only come on at 15miles and I was traveling in areas without fuel for 60miles between stations. No issues with the hood flutter here. I like the sharper look of the GX but ultimately went with the LC because of the manual buttons instead of touch screen buttons on the dash and the hybrid system (realistic fuel economy of 20mpg highway @80mph, and 2400w inverter in the back for a full electric camping set up). Put 8k on in the first month and 12k in 3months now. Plans for 35s with a rear mounted spare, leaving room for a Long Range America tank in the underside spare tire space. The GX is far more popular in my area near NYC, but out west in the Rockies, it was the exact opposite. LC over GX.
this was helpful - only 575 miles/tank. I have a Rivian R1T that gets 400 miles at 100% charge
Just a good bro telling you to enjoy your whip boys. Bless.
What about wind noise on the front windshield? I test drove one on a very windy day, drove it back in a 25-30mph head wind. It sounded like a window vent was open. Very loud I’m sure due to the design of the flat windshield. The hood flutter was crazy.
Wind noise is totally fine. As long as you’re used to a big suv or truck, it isn’t anything different from that for me
Lexus has made a few updates to the RX after they’ve launched a new design. I think they will fix most of these kinks within two years.
The point of the Lexus LX Overtrail is that it is actually a Landcruiser and not a Prado.
Nice vehicle but great cons list. Hood flutter? Why not make it more robust as they are obviously not trying to be mpg sensitive. The thing gets less per mile than a full size box truck loaded down 🤷🏻. The question is why?
Can you comment on how the full-time 4wd works in the snow??
I've heard the front wheels won't start to spin or grip until the rear wheels spin at a fast speed. THX!
P.S. Do you have to drive with the rear or center diff engaged all the time??
If you have any experience driving a center diff car (like Audi for example) it’s extremely seamless. Very minimal traction loss, tracks as expected, does well with the deep stuff. If you felt crazy you could activate the locker on the center diff but I’ve never had to do that. Best snow truck I’ve owned
@@NorthoftheWallGarage The reason for asking is that I just saw a video of someone backing the GX Overtrail onto a set of rollers. When he applied the gas the front wheels did not pull him off the rollers. Even after accelerating the limited slip still would not engage the front wheels.???
Could there be an issue with the limited slip in the GX?? - THX!
Familiar with that video. Locking the center diff there would be no issue. Zero concern about traction/stability in this truck
@rollingthunder9851 go back and read comments in that video, it there are some good explanations describing what is going on
I bought OT as a secondary car.
Buy what you like.
Like what you buy.
Trade in for a van. That definitely is family car.
Good luck!
I have 3 cars - I use the GX as a truck, the way it was intended! Happens to carry about family too. I’m not interested in a van and love the GX! Maybe an LX soon though 🥸
The airflow on the overtrai sucks at the back. The air is limited. We have a dog and she struggles since there is not much air at the boot and second row area. We contemplating getting a portable fan or aircon unit for the rear end. The heat wave during summer is intense. Great truck but air vents need to be redone
I was all set to get this vehicle, wasn't thrilled with the cargo space particularly the second row not folding flat. Now I am looking at the Armada 2025 PRO-X seems to offer a better truck, with much more cargo space and nicer interior for less money? It also has vents in the ceiling for all 3 rows. Also the Nissan has Air suspension.
I would be careful about Nissan. Their business is in trouble and residual values are terrible. Admittedly the new armada and Infiniti counterpart *appear* much nicer, but I think for this segment, the real value is capability and reliability. If I were you I’d look at the sequoia instead.. or even a Tahoe.
@@NorthoftheWallGarage Thx, I have looked at the Tahoe as well maybe #2 on the list .The Sequoia also has poor cargo space for its size. I think Nissan will turn things around. Nissan is still the 6th biggest selling manufacturer in the world. Toyota and Lexus in the past were way more reliable than Nissan, not sure this year as Toyota has had significant recall issues. Very tough decision. Thanks for some great content!!!!
Fair enough!! Good luck with your search!!
Nissan will no longer exist. They’re merging with Honda. Just an FYI
@@BriceHarrison-r9vThat’s not how a merger works buddy.
It's not stupid to expect ceiling vents for 2nd and 3rd row in this modern age. My teens are adamant about that requirement. There's an insane amount of SUVs that we had to disregard because there's no climate vents in the ceiling, including the Honda Pilot!
I feel dumb for not even thinking about this! Can’t believe manufacturers are cutting something so simple
GX 550 Premium has them. That’s the model I’ll be getting. It’s give and take depending on the trim you get. I’ll just be changing wheels and tires and everyone will think we have an overtrail.
Get black portable fans with clips
@ZenEndurance that's what we have in our F250 but let's be real. Fans and AC vents are not the same thing and it's insane that in this day in the modern world that there's still so many SUVs without air in the ceiling (Honda Pilot, Mazda CX90, VW Atlas, etc etc).
Great review man. Fuel range in these vehicles are criminal. LC LC owner, and I would do anything for much more range. Takes away from the whole experience.
231 miles is ridiculous 🤪
I'm averaging 19.8 mpg in my 2022 Tundra with the 3.5, non hybrid. I don't understand why the Lexus can't get better MPG. I know my engine has more HP and torque but I also have a lot more weight. Maybe Lexus needs to get that HP up on these to help with fuel economy.
Real climate vents are a legitimate issue especially here in texas. I've passed over great cars in the past because of poor rear climate setups (some sedans still don have vents going to the back whichbis ridiculous).
Did you consider a Rivian R1S?
Yes my thoughts are as follows. A bit pricey, depreciation is extreme, and didnt want to go EV for the true family car. Think it’s a really neat truck, but until EV depreciation gets under control I think it’s crazy to buy one new. Can easily get one now for $60k or so, which at that price point is much more tempting
Does the roof rack make a lot of wind noise ?
Many owners think so. For me it’s the same as any other vehicle I’ve owned with a raised rack. I take it off when I’m not planning on using it for anything.
Hahaha... I have a BMW 8 series too.... and got my grandma's old LX470 as a grduation gift... then my mom passed her old LS460 L to me too.... totally happy..
Wow - your gas is so much cheaper than in CA and it’s also 93 octane whereas our highest is 91!
Yes - was out in LA last year with a defender and couldn’t believe the fuel prices. Brutal! At least you get the weather 😉
Ceiling vents should be standard on all trims, especially 3rd row, my 06 Sequoia had them, necessary!
The TX seems more family friendly though it looks like a cross between a minivan and bus hah. The GX does look neat on the outside…I’ll give it that.
fantanstic look
I own both the Sequoia and GX… Sequoia overall other than the high cargo space (due to battery) is a better thought out car. Both gas tanks are way too small
Any cracks or chips in the windshield? There’s a lot of complaints on the forums that the upright windshield angle is leading to damaged glass.
Nope! It’s a total bug magnet on the highway in the summer, but no issues with cracks or chips in the windshield at all
@NorthoftheWallGarage
That's good. I do much more city than highway driving and have never had a windshield crack, so this concern may be overblown for me.
That mileage and range makes it a no for me. There are more fun options out there with running cost that high.
Got a growing family with a 2 year old and twins on the way. Hoping to get into a premium before they arrive! Hopefully it’s big enough haha
Three car seats might be tough in the GX, even with a three row. Worth testing it out for sure… worst case you could always go sequoia for maximum room!
@@NorthoftheWallGarage yeah if I could test one I would haha. What I hear is that the sequoia isn’t really any bigger room wise. Probably a bit wider I’m sure Any thoughts there?
Too bad this doesn’t have the ultra efficient BMW B58 out of the Supra. That efficiency is atrocious. I’ve seen 6 cylinder X7 get over 30mpg, not in the city, but 250-300mi of range in a vehicle for OVERLANDING is pretty absurd.
I run mine on regular gas with no issues.
Wow, 14mpg. Thats barely better than my 200 series got. At least it had a larger fuel tank. You’re wrong about the cost to add a tank, to add a LRA tank to the 200, it was pushing $4000 installed. I very much doubt you’ll be able to add a tank to this for $1000+install
Good to know.. maybe I’m overly optimistic on cost
Why would you be loyal to a company? Who literally doesn’t care about their customer anymore?
I’ve owned cars from 8 different brands. Toyota/Lexus is the only brand where I haven’t had some sort of major issue that either left me stranded or cost me a fortune
I wasn’t paying close attention and thought this was a Land Cruiser. The interior isn’t really up to Lexus usual standards. 😢
ive had mine about 6 months or so - the only con I have is the first gear in eco mode.. its super super lazy - sport mode eliminates.. everything else is incredible.
Good tip!
As of 3 days ago they have a 280,000 major transmission recall that includes the gx550, lx600, tundra, Sequoia and Land cruiser 300.
I own a 23 Tundra TRD Pro and GX 550, I have zero recall notices. The tacomas had a trans recall... People don't believe everything you read on comments
@ironwillbowman6402 I already have the knowledge I need to have before I read any comments. I know exactly what's going on or I wouldn't open my mouth. I don't speak about things I know nothing about.
@@chipbarfield62ok, just post the transmission recall notice for 280k Tundras, LC GX etc vehicles...

Pretty sad that the landcruiser has rear vents and ac controls but gx overtrail does not, it makes zero sense... also, the tundra has a pano roof and rear seat climate control and a rear window that is powered for up/down. Why didn't they put all of this into the gx? It's supposed to be top of the line.. reason... cost cutting..
Yes agreed. A disappointing omission… but pano roof and rear climate are available.. just in different trims. Hard to explain that choice. Charge me $1k more for rear vents, I’d do it lol
Yikes 14 mpg in the city... why'd they get rid of the v8 again lol? My 4Runner does better at 16mpg city (which I actually get). Still a nice vehicle and the new engine while less reliable will still be more reliable than most other vehicles.
My GX460 gets at least 16 mpg city. To think that people downgrade to the new turbo V6 for worse mpg is wild😂
My v8 genesis can go for 360-400 miles depending on the gas stations I get 25 mpg on a highway.
Aerodynamics and rolling resistance are much different on a genesis, no doubt
What is the name of the rust preventative undercoat?tkns
Cosmoline! It’s military grade stuff
Did you apply it yourself?
Yes - it’s not hard. Pulled the car on ramps, wore the right protective gear, and sprayed down the frame and other vulnerable metal parts
If you can afford this truck. I wouldn’t complain about the mpg. If you want better mpg. Rx350H get about 33 mpg
MPG isn’t the issue by itself - it’s the range. Cost at the pump is what it is, but I’d just like to stop less frequently!
That mpg is a dealbreaker…. 14 for a daily…. Nahhhh, even working from home
Poor mpg, a hood so thin it wobbles at speed, very poor ventilation for hot climates and yet it is expensive because it’s a Lexus. Well, I’d say that this vehicle isn’t good enough and that’s why Lexus have decided to limit where in Europe it can be sold to the far east. If they actually sorted it out and produced a hybrid model it would be worth it.
he ran the stop sign
Are automatic gas pumps a strange thing in Michigan?
Couldn’t tell ya! In NY - not all stations have them
😂😂😂😂😂
@@NorthoftheWallGarage Oops, for some reason I thought I heard Michigan somewhere in the video 😳
Its Your own Money
U did a research before buying it im pretty sure
Stil Most Sharp Looking SUV good looking SUV or top 5 most Head Turner Styling
The gas mileage is horrible dude. Plus premium? Yikes not sure how much of an upgrade this is over the V8
Power and drivability is a different league. I liked the V8 just fine, but it was really a dog - especially when the car was loaded up for roadtrips
Why would you buy an Overtrail when you had a family. Buy the premium or luxury and you wouldn’t have the problems. You didn’t mention all your off roading that you do.
Deal with deep snow and muddy land frequently here. Premium probably would have been fine. But the overtrail is awesome, so I bought it lol
If you can afford to buy a Luxury car, buying gasoline is nothing. Is just purchasing a chicken feed.
GX is by far 10 times better than the Land cruiser
There is no Perfect Car in this worlld. just like owning a custom built . Just Selll It and Buy something else
People always conplain about the Price of ORiginal Land Cruiser so They built cheaper ones Now They complain either
. man U go in Australia and middle east and Russia
Land Cruiser are like F150 s
they re. everywhere for the Price. they are not cheap but definitely built bullet Proof in Japan
Not stupid! Legit and a big disappointment that Lexus neglected this. Also, if you have pets, nothing in the cargo area either. Baaadddd
Interior quality went down bad, cheap looking plastic behind drivers seat
Honestly I think it’s the same as the GX460. Definitely a bit more of a utilitarian slant to it now, but this is certainly not an s class. I wish overtrail could get real leather but I digress.. doesn’t bother me
I think they let Frankenstein out of the laboratory a little bit too damn soon! I wouldn't even consider buying one until at least 2027! I think I would rather have a 2023 GX 460 V8 with it's far superior interior or the 2021 LX 570..
Do you suffer from OCD?
😂😂
if you can afford a Vehicle this price
I dont think you really care about Gas Milage
In my own Opinion
Lexus makes uglier cars and too expensive for paying that’s not looking luxury!
Cheap that's really what they went with. An attractive exterior with very cheap interior. No longer a luxury SUV.
If you look at the marketing materials, GX is supposed to be the middle ground between luxury and utility. So not marketed as full lux - that’s saved for the LX. I don’t think it’s “cheap”.. but it’s definitely utilitarian. Similar to defender honestly
@@NorthoftheWallGarageit's over $80k, it's not only utilitarian as it carries the Lexus brand, it's supposed to be luxury with capability. Also, what is disturbing is that you can get more options in a Toyota tundra, which also is off-road worthy as well, how does that make sense? Tundra has options for Heated rear seats, rear seat climate control, rear power window, glass pano roof, good heavens Lexus..etc... regarding the defender, yes it looks looks utilitarian but drive one, it's luxury with capability like the g wagon. This competes with them, I was in the market for a GX, waited excitedly for this release, wanted to love it, after the marketing hype calmed down and upon close inspection I'm really doubting a purchase due to the lack of luxury compared to vehicles at and below this price point including within the brands own product line . You can get more in a friggin cheap Kia for less... I'm disappointed in the execution here of the gx. You are too and should be. They need to make the changes you mentioned and incorporate the amenities offered in the tundra, carry them over. Think about it, How's this more money than a loaded out tundra with the same engine and more options? .. the interior is bland too, exterior color options are okay but interior color options are lacking, and you don't even have real leather seats, you got vinyl! Tundra gets leather! Huh?... insane!.. it's dull in the cabin and uninspiring, they need to spruce it up a bit, it makes no sense to price this vehicle above the Tundra with so much missing and not available. You deserve alot more for what you paid for it...hopefully they address it. I think their slapping the Lexus badge on it hoping people buy this cost cutting catastrophe simply based on brand loyalty not value which their known for. Cmon lexus, give us at least what competitors do at this price point.
The loud-ass brakes in reverse is my only complaint besides the awful total mileage on a tank. The brakes are embarrassing.
GX460 is lazy and slow. Interior and exterior are very very old.
Bought a wrong model, wrong car man! Should’ve bought a minivan 😅
I will gladly accept donations for a Toyota sienna as a 4th car
RS1.
Trade in your gx and you could get 2 mini van@@NorthoftheWallGarage
