Unfortunately they spent way more of their money in the design department than the reliability department as of late. And this is coming from a person who has had Toyota vehicles since 1994
Ryan, In the case of the Overtrail, it is reassuring to see a decent level of sidewall on a GX tire. We are all looking forward to the arrival of your Land Cruiser. 🤩
Nicer looking than a land rover and probably more reliable as well. The front grille is more toned down than other lexus models. Nice looking machine. Leaps and bounds better looking than the hideous cyber truck
I really like the idea of a Land Rover, the new defender is in theory a cool SUV. However the reliability and dependability is a joke and always has been, i dont know how anyone could live with it
Lexus did a great job with this refresh of GX. The ground clearance was a little less than I expected (was expecting closer to 10” with 35” tires). If I hadn’t bought a GX 460 the OverTrail (not the +) would be my choice. As it stands I’ll keep my 23 GX for at least 10 years and lift it when the newness wears off so I can really take it off-road
The tradeoff is that you have 8.9" of ground clearance on 32.5" tires, but you have a lot of articulation with the suspension. Some vehicles let you raise the ride height (Jeep GC Trailhawk) to 10"+ but you lose most of your articulation. In my experience off-road, I'm more often limited by traction than by absolute ground clearance, so I'd rather have the articulation. But everyone's use case is different.
As a current GX460 owner, I really like the exterior styling. I would also prefer not having the 3rd row for extra cargo capacity. The interior is functional and non-offensive, but I wish they stuck with some analog gauges. Analog just feels more premium these days. Overall I think I'd wait for the Toyota version so see how the hybrid 4 cylinder setup does for some extra MPG since I don't tow. The seats do look like a win over the 460 for sure.
@yamafanboy5514 the seats take up space even when folded... Maybe 7 inches in height the whole width and length of the cargo area. They don't stow into a black hole 😂
I like the point you made about making the windshield as slanted as possible, they learned their lesson with the FJ. I still love my FJ but the visibility is ass
Lexus hit it out of the ball park with the GX550. These will probably more or less spotted at country club golf courses. Great video very through and detail on the all the specifications.
$80k is a lot, but 33s and KDSS puts it near Rubicon territory, and for what we paid for our Rubi, paying a bit more to get the on-road goodness might be worth giving up the freedom top and the last bit of off roadiness. Definitely on my short list when we shop in a couple years.
Never thought I would see the day. Since the LFA, they have been producing utter trash. All their cars looked awful, especially with that stupid grill. I am so glad that they finally are doing the luxury offroader look like the Defender. It's a winning formula and I like this version better than any other model year. In twenty years when this thing has somewhat depreciated, maybe I'll buy it!

Great 4x4! I originally was into the new Sequoia TRD PRO when that released but was upset about it being a hybrid only powertrain with drawbacks such as lack of cargo trunk space due to the battery bulge in the back. Now I have high hopes that this is the 4x4 SUV I want. So far I think Lexus absolutely nailed it with this GX
Excellent detailed information you provide is top notch. Easy to understand and for the non-initiated, they will be properly educated by what you discuss in your reviews. Well done Ryan. 👍 Interesting vehicle. But I will stick with my 4R TRD OR with the KDSS.
When is it actually arriving. Can I fit two Great Danes in the rear cargo. Need height and width back there. How high of jump off ground for them to get into cargo space or do we need steps
As a taller (6' 2") driver, the big problem that I have noticed in newer vehicles is the lack of safe visibility out of the front windshield. They try to put the safety monitoring equipment in a black box at the top middle of the windshield.. And now Lexus made that black box even bigger.. see at (29:58).. Unfortunately, now the location of that black box (plus the rearview mirror itself) really hurts the drivers own ability to view out for safe driving. When it comes to safe driving, I trust my own eyes and vision much more than techie safety monitoring devices at the top middle part of the windshield. You would be surprised at how important that whole top middle part of the windshield is for good, safe driving visibility. They need to find another place on the vehicle to put safety monitoring devices so you can look out of the front windshield safely.
@@RRr-yl8zr yea.. Like I mentioned .. I am about 6' 2".. Those eyesight monitoring box things and, yes, even the rear view mirror also block my eye sight. Trust me.. I do most of my driving on pavement for work but we do go to the mountains often and our cabin has some treacherous roads , etc. Am I best with the other trims or does this Overtrail still drive smoothly on the highway? Unsure with those tires.
With the new 4R it is clear Toyota hedged on the LC250 for USA and when the LCs I see for sale are the same price as the GX overtrail we got issues. Same price and no E KDSS or TTV? Someone really has to love round headlights because the value isn’t there
It looks like a reliable Defender. I appreciate this design better than every other GX they made prior to this model. They sharpened the grill and got rid of that gopping Baskin shark grill that made their cars some of the ugliest vehicles on the road. I also like that they kept the piano black plastic to a minimum.
