Hey man your Land Cruiser is awesome. Keep it stock honestly lol. It looks so good and it is plenty high and capable. Just keep it comfortable and reliable to drive
For me, i prefer the land cruiser for its more heritage look, yet I'm not sold on the four cylinder hybrid, Toyota should have stuck a six under that hood. As for the new 4runnner, i think she's lost her identity, which means if i ever trade my 5th gen in, i'll probably go for the land cruiser. For me, as for loving the 4runnner for so many years, this time round, it could be a game changer. I'm so disappointed with the new look. Looks like an older revamped Dodge Durango or the Tacoma. Sorry for babbling. It's a great comparison video, though 👍
I completely agree. As a '22 4Runner Limited owner who has a deposit on a new Landcruiser Landcruiser Edition, I have driven 4Runners for years and have enjoyed them. The new one looks far too rounded and softened. I prefer the chiseled / masculine look. The Landcruiser has that look. I'll keep my 4Runner alongside the new Landcruiser.
@georgetown8986 that would be a couple to hang on to, I only have space for one inside my garage. and i don't think my wife would like me to take her spot in front of the house. 🤔
I chose the GX Overtrail and never looked back. Last week I added a Westcott roof rack and Westcott lift and fitted it with 35s and 17 inch method bead grip wheels. I also had Westcott remove the runningboards and install the land cruiser rock rails. After 2200 miles I was averaging 19.1 MPG. It’s been a week since the Westcott build and the MPG has dropped to 18.1, and I expect it to go lower. I love the V6 and would never want to give up cargo space for the battery packs. I bought it at the MSRP of $71,474. You can easily spend that much money or more on the LC, so I think the GX is a better truck and a better value. I absolutely love my GX!
I'm driving my 2018 LC, just passed 40k miles. Just put new Nitto Terra Grapplers on it. Running strong, riding smooth on the highway. I was considering a new LC for my Daily. Wishing for another V8 option. I have a 2012 Nissan LX 1500 with their V8, my employees drive it with no issues, several different drivers. I may go Backwards to a low mileage V8 Sequoia. My current daily driver, 2015 Honda Pilot, 180k miles. Mileage has sucked, maintenance has sucked. Don't think I will buy another Pilot. Think my Chevy Astros with the 4.3 Six Cylinder and Jeep inline 6 were great. I also run around in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. That V8 is strong as heck after 200,000 miles. I have 9 vehicles for my business. In 36 years I have driven many but never much interest in the Ford V8 unless we're renting a van to Florida!
First thx for the content Jon. Very interesting. Second, I can’t believe the mpg of GX. As someone else already mentioned, pretty unheard of in 2024. That mileage is matched by the 3UR V8. When comparing the LC to GX, I gotta go with GX for looks and ride style. LC for the roots of off roading.
Great video Jon!! We had a deposit on a first edition land cruiser, then after watching a number of reviews, including the one when you first bought yours, decided to switch to the GX overtrail+ arriving next week. Your fantastic real-world comparison mostly confirms what we listed as pros and cons of GX OT+ vs LC FE: pros: v6 dual-turbo w/ more power, v6 = less engine whine/drone than 4cyl, acoustic glass = quieter at highway speed, e-KDSS more capable offroad and on, more towing capacity, better stock tires, full use of rear storage (more capacity too?) without battery, massaging seats, heated rear seats, additional driving modes, turning light, Mark Levinson sound, longer stock warranty. cons: more expensive, lower mpg, no digital mirror, no 3-zone climate and vents low vs. high, 3" longer without much to show for it, worse approach angle when offroading, hvac touchscreen vs manual controls, rear AC outlet less power, and shorter included service. wash: looks (both look great, so personal preference), range (more mpg on LC, but smaller tank), both take premium fuel, both will likely be extremely reliable despite what "the internet says", resale also likely a wash as a percentage of purchase price, and availability sucks for both right now - look out of market for best deals at MSRP. Either is a great choice, which is why you both like the ones you bought.
I really hope you enjoy your GX! I’m excited for you! Thanks for your breakdown in the comments. It truly means a lot to me that you took the time to write all that out. I appreciate that!!!!!
Yes!!! We want (NEED) an HONEST review comparing the 250 vs the 200. This is critical for those of us loyal 200-Series Land Cruiser owners that are on the fence regarding the 250-Series. I am in disbelief they gave the GX550 the V6 but chose to give the LC the 4-cylinder. If the 4-cylinder was so good why not also put it in the GX? Also, the DISHONEST smoke and mirrors Width measurements on the 250 to make people think it basically the same size as a 200 in total crap. I drive a 200 series and dealer put me in a 2024 4RUNNER for a MONTH while mine was in the shop (mechanic had a serious injury and others on vacation had them backed up). There's a HUGE DIFFERENCE in comfort, space-wise, between a LC 200 and a 4RUNNER (the LC 250 has very similar interior dimensions as the 24 4RUNNER).
Good review. I love the LC performance. Way more aggressive to gain speed than the 2022 trd pro . Huge difference to me. Got 23 mpg on way back from the dealer.
I went and sat in one. Hood was easy to push down as if it is not 100% secure. It had play in movement. Not sure if you can screw down from inside but why would it not be set to that?
It flutters at highway speeds on a lot of Toyota products, including Tacomas and 4runners. It is due to Toyota skimping on 3m panel adhesive. I had to purchase it myself and apply to fix it. Stupidity.
You definitely did not buy the wrong vehicle after hearing about the GX 550 gas mileage and low 400 W power converter. There’s no way that is better than the Land Cruiser.
It’s honestly pretty disappointing that you can’t have the perfect version of this vehicle. Both have their pluses and minuses. It’s crazy for the price. Also, I bet that battery pack has something to do with that gas tank size. Also, the engine sound, sounds like the RAV4 prime. It’s fast but it sounds like you are breaking the thing when you get on it.
You should upgrade to the GX next, maybe in few years when it is more refined. I think the reviews are very good. It would be cool to own the LC and GX and have them parked next to each other.
Here in Australia we get the climate control in the rear like the LC first edition, only 3500kg towing (7700lbs), different rear map holders they are the fake leather as opposed to the plastic in the US. I think the Australian spec seems better than the US.
LC trim with sunroof costs over 65k. For just 4k more you can have a base overtrail giving you V6 turbo w 10 speed KDSS 33inch tall ATs Power passenger seat Better engine bay with struts Slightly Nicer finishes Bigger trunk space (no battery bulge) Bigger infotainment screen Lexus customer services I think it’s well worth it.
I'd just get a LC 1958 and then either paint or wrap the roof a contrasting color. $82K for the Lexus versus $58K for the LC 1958. Thats the comparison I do. The Lexus is almost 50% more money.
This is a great video thanks for all your efforts. This could be a pillow fight. The absolute wild card in both vehicles, new 4Runner release in Fall. I want to test all 3 once dealers have all available in stock. Availability by me is very scattered right now which to be expected. I like the look of both but for me i just have to throw in 4Runner as the 3rd option. I want to test the drive ability of 4Runner for everyday commutes, sound and feel on road. I love the looks of all. Me personally it’s going to come down to comfort, reliability, practicality, daily commute, gas mileage, fit and finish. Living in Northeast, need to be prepared for all the junk the roads and weather throw at us here. I just want the car the last really long time and I want it all to just make sense for me. In the end, after whichever car I buy, when the new car smell dust wears off, I dont want to be looking back 6 months later saying I shouldn’t have bought this car.
I was recently in Destin from Acworth for a baseball tournament and that dang traffic on 98 to ft Walton was ridiculous! The infrastructure just cant handle all those people. Crab island was insane out there!
Nice Land Cruiser. The mirrors look like they are from an FJ Cruiser (with some minor mods). Plastic front ends deter from the off road look. The GX550 front end looks like my wife's 2023 Camry. Two rows would keep me from dumping my Bronco for the Land Cruiser. Tow capacity on the LC is pretty dang good at 6000 compared to 3500 on my Bronco. Between the two, GX and LC, the LC looks like the better buy.
The ME lc250 is non hybrid and comes with 110 litres fuel tank (~29 gallons). Good, but the older 150 was ~42 gallons, 120 was ~47. It keeps shrinking 😐
They need to put the 6 in the LC, no third row. I wonder if they didn’t not only for mfg and economy, but to not steal sales from Lexus. I like the LC better, but I want the Gx motor.
I think this review pushed me towards LC. Like the simplicity of infotainment and drivability around town plus the retro look. Neither car is build to be raced so I’m fine with the hybrid
Expense alone Hard pill to swallow paying 70k+ for a 4cylinder Not knocking anything other than that Larger sway bar with the KDSS is gonna be more firm/rigid for off-roading and not as compliant on road BTW the LC looks better with those stock rims vs the other ones in another video
The LC300 available in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, Designed in Australia is way better looking and finished inside and out and 7 seats. No hump, V6 Diesel, longer range than both above. Heated and cooling, full climate and better accessories out of Australia. Check it out and import one.
I'm holding out for the 2025 SR5 4Runner with the NON-hybrid 4 cyl. It'll probably be about $46,000 vs $58,000 for the 1958 Land Cruiser and have similar ride and handling qualities. It won't turn heads like the Land Cruiser and will take 9 seconds to do 0-60 mph vs 8 seconds for the Land Cruiser, but that's still enough power to maintain speed up any grade.
14 mpg in 2024 is INSANE! Thank God the government is forcing Toyota to make more efficient SUVs! I wish the Land cruiser was a tad bigger to replace my 19 sequoia…that gets…13 mpg with a V8!
So you like the government telling you what to do and controlling what you can and can't have? Perhaps you should move to N. Korea, China, or another country where they control every aspect of your existence.
Spent a couple of days in a new Land Cruiser in Moab. Everything I didn't like about the Land Cruiser is fixed by the GX550. The inside of the Land Cruiser felt cheap / not premium. Seats were amazing, but all the other touch plastic was hard. Powertrain made good power but if the GX makes the same power without the higher rear deck (due to the hybrid battery) I'll take it.
Always thought all previous Toyota Landcruiser generations were better than the Lexus versions. I think this new generation the Lexus is slightly better than the Landcruiser 250.
It's unfortunate that the V6 is rumored to be experiencing catastrophic engine failures due to failing crank bearings. I've heard of a local guy having this happen in his 2024 Tundra and Toyota says it will take many months to get a replacement motor...
@@Nods.O i love it, more room than the 4 runner, i have taken it light off roading, does it like nothing, engine and transmission are silky smooth. Yeah get one trust me best bargain out there, bad ass V8 pushes it down the road effortlessly

21 mpg on a Land Cruiser is incredible 😮
From a FZJ80 owner 😂
Really thought I was going to prefer the GX, but I'd prefer the LC. I just need the LC to have the role down rear window of the 4runner
That would be rad
Land cruiser to me makes more sense and looks more gracious
Gx 550 all day
I prefer the better angles of the LC
My 1981 land cruiser fj60 is still going strong.
Not a fan of the GX front-end, but overall, the Overtrail is a better value.
I like the LC but for the price the GX is the one
GX550 of course. V-6 > I-4
15mpg on premium < 22 mpg on regular
@@andyleo8418LC takes premium too
The ME lc250 is non hybrid and comes with 110 litres fuel tank (~29 gallons). Good, but the older 150 was ~42 gallons, 120 was ~47. It keeps shrinking 😐
Test drove the First Edition LC and I was impressed but there is a waiting list so I am probably going to get it after a year or two.
Oh man I love the Overtrail + IT may be our next long term driver
OOh yea?????
Low mile 2021 200 is what I've decided to buy after wanting both of these.
I hope Toyota eventually brings back the straight six for the Land Cruiser/LX’s, kind of like how Land Rover Discovery went from V6 to i6.
The B58 is in the Ineos. That would be unique huh
GX looks like the bad ass older brother. Landcruiser looks like the fun loving goofy younger brother.
I prefer LC for the price worth, and other stuff. Looks very neat and love the color
They need to put the 6 in the LC, no third row. I wonder if they didn’t not only for mfg and economy, but to not steal sales from Lexus. I like the LC better, but I want the Gx motor.
Both require premium fuel. Might as well go with the sleeker GX
Saw a brand new gx550 the other day have to say what a
Beautiful vehicle
Right on!
I think this review pushed me towards LC. Like the simplicity of infotainment and drivability around town plus the retro look. Neither car is build to be raced so I’m fine with the hybrid
Yes to Costa Rica and the LC76!
Please take the LC for a Costa Rica trip.
Diesel 1HZ
LC actually has better articulation than the GX soooooo
Truuuuuuuuuue
Ya as if people are really taking these rolling off rocks and squeezing through trails. 10 years later as a used vehicle most likely.
@@gunsmokezz ya a chiron is the fastest car in the world, how many people are driving around at 250+ mph?
@@gunsmokezzspeak for yourself. Day one of ownership I have 35’s lined up, then I’m off for a three week off-road trip.
GX all day
I’m still Land Cruiser 1958, especially if they were to come out with a TRD Off-Road model.
The jerky low speed behaviour of the LC250 has been mentioned a few times by reviewers. I wouldn't doubt there's a software update that can fix this.
Landcruiser all day every day….. landcruiser has better off-road geometry, better economy, better inverter, better colors and looks, better price…
GX has a classier look but I don’t need an off road vehicle to be that luxurious. Would also take the hybrid over the V6.
I like the gx550 much better.
Expense alone
Hard pill to swallow paying 70k+ for a 4cylinder
Not knocking anything other than that
Larger sway bar with the KDSS is gonna be more firm/rigid for off-roading and not as compliant on road
BTW the LC looks better with those stock rims vs the other ones in another video
For sure man. Needs a lift on it for those bigger tires
The LC300 available in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, Designed in Australia is way better looking and finished inside and out and 7 seats. No hump, V6 Diesel, longer range than both above. Heated and cooling, full climate and better accessories out of Australia. Check it out and import one.
We can’t to the USA unfortunately
@@TRDJon You guys are the biggest and best market! Why would the best model not come to the States? We are only 5 million people in NZ 😂
The peasant blockers 💀
The suspension might feel better with the added weight of the battery in the back.
land cruiser is more my style. I think LC is more for the offroad guys and gx for the family or mall crawlers
I've seen the new LC and GX in person. The GX look so much better.
Me too and I agree.
The bumpiness is likely caused by the eKDSS.
You’re content is amazing. Love the GX 550.
Thanks a ton!
GX looks better and has an off road pack with actual all terrain tires . LC needs a TRD package and a hybrid 6 .
You got the right one.
The Lexus engine is going to have bearing failure very soon😂😂😂
Yeah because there is no way that tiny 4 popper will have issues, huh?🙄
@@Silverfox1982 for sure the 2.4 will outlast the 3.4👊💪
Spent a couple of days in a new Land Cruiser in Moab.
@@deanbass09 No one cares what you think! You trying to be the main character so bad. 🤣🤣🤣
That GX has a mean eye compared to the googlie eyed LC. My 07 FJ just reached 200k plus miles. Plan on getting an LC but not sure about the 4L engine.
The blue paint w white top and black accents is a winner on the outside although I don’t like the round headlights. Everything else GX wins
Land Cruiser has a personality, while the GX550 looks more common. I would go LC all day.
It's unfortunate that the V6 is rumored to be experiencing catastrophic engine failures due to failing crank bearings. I've heard of a local guy having this happen in his 2024 Tundra and Toyota says it will take many months to get a replacement motor...
Its not a rumor. Its happening
It used to be the gx but now with its questionable engine problems I'd go with the land cruiser with a 4 banger
nissan armada, trust me it is so fun to drive, crazy power
@@yourchava how is it, worth buying used i see some for around 30k ?
@@Nods.O i love it, more room than the 4 runner, i have taken it light off roading, does it like nothing, engine and transmission are silky smooth. Yeah get one trust me best bargain out there, bad ass V8 pushes it down the road effortlessly
