    Keep in mind the early turbo barra used a floating gudgeon pin with the weaker n/a rods. The Bf and Fg engines from around 06 onwards had the thicker LPG rods and floating pin. Might want to clarify yours has the thicker rods before pushing it. Loving this build and plan of attack, no pissing about, just getting it done.

      Thanks mate, at this stage this will stay a stock Engine (at the moment anyway)

      @@CastlemaineRodShop1976 keep it 300kw rear wheel if on the thin rods, 550 if it's the thicker ones. Seems to be the safe side of them.

    This is the last thing I needed to see! 😂 I've just picked up a rotten old XF Fairmont Ghia to swap the fancy bits, the EFI Crossy and the Snowflakes into my ute as a bit of a "what if" sports ute project. Maybe I should hang on to the Ghia body after all.

    a mate of mine has a 9" in XE falcon (with XF fuel tank) what's the issue you think with the watts link (unless bracing the back of the diff across the axles? ) his is 100% using all factory stuff including watts link. the coil overs look like something he'd like to add though

  • @davegraham2009
    @davegraham2009 4 роки тому +1

    This is really cool. Are you guys doing this R&D to offer these parts in the future? Upper coil over mounts would save me a lot of mucking around

    What is the fixation with those prehistoric Ford commercial diff? Use a 78 series EB Diff. Probably stronger, far lighter and mounted to OEM uses 28 spline axles made from better material. And by drilling 4 holes on the mounting bracket can use standard XF vented rear rotors. And the park brake is done. And then use a std 3" companion flange EB tailshaft. Bolts straight in. And very strong. XR-AU all use the same length tailshaft. And you can pick your roll centre as every model seems to have the diff hat at a different height
    Coil overs? I use a 6" Pro Shock with 7" shaft. Mounted to OEM position. Shock upside down. ..
    Master cylinder? Again I use a Wilwood 7/8 with my home made spacer, a piece of 3mm plate. Simple and costs nothing. All this 'fabrication is largely a waste of time.
    And yes I have over 400hp of 351C and a Manual trans and racing on proper road race semi slicks.. That AU wheel you were using is 30mm further in and will rub on the inner guards on hard turns.Use standard offset wheels, use the Snoflakes. You have them and they fit!!
    The same set up is used on my mates Modified Speedway sedan. Rough hooky tracks are far harder on everything than doing wheelies!!

      I am pretty sure that this is a newly manufactured 9 inch style diff, not a old one from the 70s. It would have all modern internals and pretty massive axles. Their website says it is rated for 900 rear wheel horse power.

    I would have kept it like that and built an old roughy

      Luke Stocks it didn’t have the factory engine or gearbox in the car the previous owner had sold it to fund some of the Barra parts. It’s a tidy rig that’s for sure, it will stay fairly close to standard on the outside mate.

    Little bit surprised the old 9 inch is still a go-to. Isnt there a better cheaper option yet? I have a 65 gto pontiac that will probably grenade its 10 bolt at some stage but would like something cheaper and lighter than a 9 inch. Are the 8.8 explorer rears readily available in Aus?

      The Coil overs are VIKING Coil overs, once we get the rear end all finished we will go over it to show whats been done.
      At this stage it's still R&D so some things may change, but we think we've got it
