not only are they ugly, but the quality on a lot of Bape's screen prints are awful, it will start to crack quick af. I only have one Bape item and its the regular college tee that I got from the store while in NY. A waste of money at $98 US and I get nervous every time i take it out of the dryer (and yes, i even turn it inside out to prevent it from cracking)
Blujay GFX their shirts are complete trash. Their hoodies hold up well and are actually really good in the winter I’ll give them that. Last winter here in nyc I wore it exactly like in my pfp. Bape hoodie and superset windtrekker
Its still crazy to me how not even 4 years ago people would call you an "oreo" for wearing rocker tees and vans, then start to wear that exact "white boy" fit.
maxson cadet that's why I hate people wearing streetwear/skate clothing. The whole thing with streetwear and skateclothing is that it wasn't trendy or anything like that but now everyone wears it just because it's trendy, they don't care anything about The community
Half my shirts are brandless but still really nice. Sometimes I see some people wearing a bape t shirt but the rest of his fit simply dosent work and is ugly asf.
Happy to hear that people are thinking the same way as me. I do like Bape but most of the time to pull off a Bape fit you must buy the pants and the top for it to work.
saltboy "don't let the clothes wear you" wow... That sentence is really mind-blowing... It's a problem that I always had, but never was able to understand why I was failing...
Here's a short article I wrote just for fun regarding the trends and fads of streetwear. Hopefully you read and enjoy it Reggie :) 'The Trend of Streetwear but the Fad of its Brands' Streetwear is the current trend in today’s youth, but let’s take a moment to discuss the difference between trends and fads. Dr. Dre perfectly explains the difference on the song ‘Curtains Down’ off of Eminem’s 2004 album titled ‘Encore’ it goes: “I'm a trend, I set one every time I'm in I go out and just come back full circle again You a fad, that means you’re something that we already had But once you're gone, you don't come back, too bad” See Streetwear itself is a trend it will never actually leave, but instead will reinvent itself every time so you get something new with each run. The brands however are just a fab once that certain trend is over, and the new one begins the brands that were previously involved become old news. This can be very detrimental for the Brands. Once the hype surrounding said brands dissipates they usually have a hard time surviving, and some completely disappear. So, whenever you see senior members/fans of a particular brand dislike new fans you now understand why. Some are just assholes, but others genuinely fear the things I previously stated. So, I ask everyone please don’t be a follower, or just hop onto the latest trend; actually have a legitimate interest or love for something you buy into.
I personally call myself a subtle Hypebeast. I'll wear a supreme cap or yeezys, but only by themselves. I'll Never wear a shark hoodie with yeezys. The point I like to make is to show off one piece, not have everyone not be able to focus on what piece I want to show. It's all about moderation when wearing the more hype brands
Been watching your videos for about 2 hours now. I am now subscribed. Thanks for making such interesting introspective ideas about the style and fashion in Japan. P.S thanks for using Nujabes and Fat Jon in your BG Music
Because they are releasing it in small amounts and it's a some kind of hard to get it. If you've noticed most of the supreme wearing demographic is either teenagers in highschool or social media influencers and artists who are basically working as ads for these brands, because if someone sees famous rapper wear supreme then all the kids starts going crazy for it no matter how it looks. Another thing is exclusivity, younger people tend to want show off or have something more than their friends, and when supreme releases it in limited amount everything gets sold out pretty fast and the only way to get it becomes resellers who mark up like 500% if not more, that makes it bit exclusive, fabrics and embroidery doesn't have anything to do with the hype, it's just simple embroidered hoodies or graphic printed tshirts most of the time, and 90% of the price comes for the logo. Great vid btw Reggie!
RockyRadiation That's an oversimplification of Supreme. I believe supreme ripped off Kruger's art but flipped it to make consumerism seen in a good light. They also have quite a few pieces with actual historic backround to them. Most of which piss of hypebeast and sell like shit but end up being worth tons of cash after a decade. A perfect example would be the Nan Goldin collab. I believe supreme to be a mix of nostalgia laden counter culturalists and flat out trolls aiming to piss people off.
Great content my g, love the edits and how you go into detail about every topic you speak on. Keep up the good work bro, glad I came across this channel
Worst thing about hypebeasting is that the brands are so expensive, that if I see some random guy on the street wearing a supreme box logo or something like that then I automatically assume it's fake and label him as a poser, even though I know it might be real.
Whether it's a knockoff or not, chances are the wearer didn't make it themselves. It seems like an almost meaningless distinction; being able to drop stacks on genuine brand doesn't make someone more authentic in their style than someone who can't or decides not to
One of the best video really to talk about men's wear and hyped shit! Not to show what he got there or what hyped shit there. It's always good to have something hyped and trendy, but think about it. Thinking another great way to wear it, not the regular hyped shit fit. And men try to wear something like women or getting the inspired from it. Not harmful at all
I've watched a ton of videos on The Casual Channel. I pretty much binged your whole channel the first day I came across it. I have noticed Reggie mention cultural appropriation more than once and I just wondering the context of that.
It's used in the context of a (sub)culture's fashion being adopted by people that have no relation to the culture itself. For example, it could be said that Japan is appropriating American workwear. The style developed from the service industry and industrial workers in America, but Japanese designer brands are adopting the style and modifying it to suit the tastes of high-end consumers-people about as far from service industry/industrial workers as possible. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though people often view it negatively if the group whose culture is being appropriated is a minority.
i avoid the crowd and hype. if i like certain brands or style i stick to it. i dont care if its out of trend or trendy. i currently like vans old skools, muji clothing, base control and obey clothing. this is what i like right now. i make my own trend basically.
This video is super dope lol. I even thought about asking to put a portion of it on my website. Instead, I gotta push this mindset. I am already but gotta get more creative and give people more pieces and tools to express themselves through my pieces. I agree though end this stupid hypebeast battle. Love how the culture and experience sounds over there man.
Thank you for Nujabes in the background. Had to like the video immediately after the first second of hearing it, no matter what would the rest of the video be like. (It was fucking great too!!)
Find brands that you don't see getting as much attention in whichever style you like: that olive green Colombia button up can serve as a good piece to give a rugged or military style. Don't be afraid to alter pieces you find falling out of style: bleach those black suede high tops to make them pop if that works for you, on other shoes add painted accents to something that is getting boring, chop up some unnecessary parts to add minimalism or reveal something on the shoe.
enjoyed the video as it's very informative; there's also another a video that talks about the same subject, it's by Nick. It can add on to this as well, explains how it's not about what you wear but how you wear. You could slap on a supreme tee and still not make a "statement".
This is great! I cant buy shirts over $25 anyways, and my mom hesitates if a shirt is $15, but the shirts i do have are great as well. They're all cheap but i like them.
Love the channel, however, any chance you could include more footage of Tokyo/JP?.. i get stores can be tricky about filming but i think a bit a few exterior shots would be sweet.
Great video. I'm definitely not a hypebeast personally, but fuck, sometimes I just can't resist a branded supreme t or a palace triferg piece. Kind of hate myself for it but just can't help it haha
So how do you actually study culture? I want to a lot of time but YT is really my only venue for analysis. What are some more practical ways of doing so? Also awesome channel. Just earned yourself a new subscriber.
SUBSCRIBE. This was the video I was looking for. Fashion is not about brand but creativity and personality. There is no creativity in wearing brands coz everything is done for you.
the mentality people need is " if you like it, where it" not the secondary "he likes this so i'll like that"? unless you're trying to just be a copy, people are impressed by individuality, thats why hipster culture and thrifting is so strong, keeps people from copying you as easily and generally stays niche.
I always like to dress what I think looks good mixing in street wear and more skater wear but I still very much enjoy high end/'hype' brands like Off-White, CDG, Supreme(not so much anymore), Bape but it if I do wear one of these I try to keep it pretty lowkey, sneak it in there. Keep 1 flex item in a fit. Not sure if this would be considered hype beast or not
It's actually very easy to dislike shark hoodies
Anyone over the age of 10 looks goofy as fuck. Anyone under 10 looks cute though.
Who the fuck buys a Bape Hoodie for their 10 year old? I think there's plenty of kids clothing brands that makes cute clothing
not only are they ugly, but the quality on a lot of Bape's screen prints are awful, it will start to crack quick af.
Bape hoodie and superset windtrekker
im really fucking good at disliking the ugly ass bape shark
Thanks for this bro 🙏🏽

maxson cadet that's why I hate people wearing streetwear/skate clothing. The whole thing with streetwear and skateclothing is that it wasn't trendy or anything like that but now everyone wears it just because it's trendy, they don't care anything about The community
we grew up with it these people look weird as fuck
maxson cadet I understand it’s tiring but at the same time you have to respect people who actually want to learn more about the cultures

Half my shirts are brandless but still really nice. Sometimes I see some people wearing a bape t shirt but the rest of his fit simply dosent work and is ugly asf.
Huixtocihuatl the bape shirt doesn’t work and is ugly asf as well
Happy to hear that people are thinking the same way as me. I do like Bape but most of the time to pull off a Bape fit you must buy the pants and the top for it to work.
Huixtocihuatl i only buy branded shoes/watches. Because of obvious reason... The rest are chosen by preference
PEPSEY I never said it being trash was a fact. I did actually state MY opinion.
Dress for yourself, don't let the clothes wear you! Love the channel Reggie, you deserve so much more subs. FYI I think your name is cool lmao.
saltboy "don't let the clothes wear you" wow... That sentence is really mind-blowing... It's a problem that I always had, but never was able to understand why I was failing...

Can still buy a supreme hat for $40
Hypebeasts aren't rich lol, they go broke after buying one thing
The only person I'm trying to impress is myself
Here's a short article I wrote just for fun regarding the trends and fads of streetwear. Hopefully you read and enjoy it Reggie :)

Nice, that first fit pick was the Neighborhood Harajuku store manager!
I feel like having prints on clothing causes a lot of issues and that fashion should be more about the shapes of pieces
Lil B's 1000 Year Old Vans silhouette over hype. Completely agree
Lil B's 1000 Year Old Vans Absolutely
Lil B's 1000 Year Old Vans No. Then we would wear some stupid shapy shit, which is just very unpractical
Another great video, keep up the good work!

As an aspiring marketer I was definitely always fascinated with the street brand/hypebeast world. Whatever they are doing, is pretty genius
honestly ur so right, I hate trends and people that just wear what other people wear

Always giving value. Where do you get that necklace from?
Love the channel, however, any chance you could include more footage of Tokyo/JP?.. i get stores can be tricky about filming but i think a bit a few exterior shots would be sweet.
Mr Yutani you know what youre absolutely right. It's time to show Tokyo. Coming right up
Not even fashion specific footage (always nice tho) but random Tokyo bits here and there might switch up the pace.
Love your videos and personality
Great video. I'm definitely not a hypebeast personally, but fuck, sometimes I just can't resist a branded supreme t or a palace triferg piece. Kind of hate myself for it but just can't help it haha
Totally agree! that's why Japan has their own great taste.

Micah the internet
Micah this channel...
Not sure if this would be considered hype beast or not
Well said! Wearing clothes to show off or buying anything to show off is never a good way live or value things. ✌️👍
this intro is so fire
FINALLY.
