    Japan is so cool, I was there recently and it was cool to see people wearing what they want. Here in Minnesota, you would get clowned for wearing anything outside the norm...

      SAO Is Lyfe Lately, ive been seeing that people who are fashion forward are highly praised. The youth of course will be stuck on their trends, no matter how many subcultures and styles are prevalent today. Just rock it with confidence, and go all the way. If you hold back with alot of subcultures and styles, you wont actually achieve the look. Like being a greaser but not styling your hair, and having a grunge look etc. This time is the best time to be fashion forward, as fashion is growing even further into the grain of western culture. Names like Jerry Lorenzo and etc are bigger than some actors, musicians, and even politicians. This has never been the case before. Go ahead and rock your shit. Small towns and smaller states like minnesota are usually stuck in time with nonrisky trends. Dont follow that, and be a trendsetter. Make your own wave (Just do it right, with bodytype, skin tone, and etc)

    This video had be excited because I thought he actually would tell us what to buy / good pieces to start with for the total noob to Japanese Street but instead it was just certain styles and info about those styles... (HINT: That's a video idea)
    Plus can u mention to me here which websites you go to to get those top 5 budget brands like Rage Blue and Hare as I live in Australia

    • @THECASUALco
      @THECASUALco  7 років тому +55

      Well...we don't like to simply "tell" people what to buy. That's why we give examples. There's no definitive style that is "Japanese". With our reasoning, its better to give you examples and let you create. If we tell you, you have less of an inclination to experiment and that is not what we want. You are free to choose ANY of these styles, mix, match, and try. For a noob, as you call it, there is just 'do'. What style do you like? What do feel comfortable in? What colors do you like? These are questions we can't answer for every single person that watches a video but by looking at these examples they may have a better idea of what suites them AND how to go about it in a more Japanese way. We'll do our best to be more in depth but honestly the creation is up to you. Also, we'll probably make a video on how to buy stuff from Japan.

    • @rohann5116
      @rohann5116 7 років тому +1

      That's fair enough. I'd still suggest some specific clothing pieces (doesn't have to be brands) for beginners.
      Good to hear about the video coming out on buying Japanese fashion. When do you think itll come out? I'm very keen

    For me the key things keeping me from getting into Japanese street fashion is the overall accessibility. Like there isn't that much that fits a western XL from what all I've seen. I got lucky when I went to the BBC store when I was in Tokyo and copped a shirt, but looking at stuff that has that New Kei or anything with that unique, breathable "might get stares stateside" it seems like looking for an old song by just the beat and and a vague memory of the chorus. Also, it could be because I'm new to looking at Japanese streetwear but even finding out how to get it outside seems rather tricky. Then of course price, but that's with anything really, I mean even getting clothes locally that's a thing. But those Classic Americana and Millitary Mix looks Seem promising and is somewhat outliers to this, because even though the brands might fit the accessibility problem; the aesthetic can be mimicked decently like you mentioned in the video. Also living in "The Texas of the Northwest" (Idaho) they are the more "chamilion that's not all that good at being a chamilion" looks.

    • @Tej.p
      @Tej.p 7 років тому +2

      Ira I have the same problem. I'm a bit too tall to fit a lot of the Japanese street brands. There are some that fit a western XL but most don't. Most Japanese brands I would need a XXL but not many sell them, some do but they are usually out of stock in those sizes. I try squeezing in a size smaller but most of the time it is a bit too short.

    cool video but... seriously disagree with undercover having anything to do with visual kei. it has some grungey elements, which might have something in common with vkei, but when would you ever see undercover kind of styles in the music scene itself?

    • @THECASUALco
      @THECASUALco  7 років тому +1

      From our experience, all the time. Undercover was built upon the foundations of punk. Which of course is what a huge part of Visual Kei is. Fashion and design is progress. And that is what Undercover did with punk infused clothing whether on the runway or on the street. Jun Takashashi (designer of Undercover) ALWAYS references music. The slogan of Undercover is "We make noise not clothes". He used to be in a band called the Tokyo Sex Pistols. Undercover is intrinsically tied to music and punk in particular. To be fair we get where you are coming from but to say Undercover isn't in the music scene is probably more because you haven't seen it or you're not interested in the scene where Undercover is the base inspiration.

    • @nickhanson2680
      @nickhanson2680 7 років тому +2

      i meant specifically in the vkei music scene, which of course has its foundations in punk but also glam rock, metal, etc. which i find have a stronger influence over the aesthetics. thanks for clearing that up though!
