Japan is so stylish it even transfers so well into gaming; KoF or Tekken characters look so dope. I was so close to visiting it one point. I had experience with modeling and in 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit this Japan... Great channel!
Total on board with Japan’s influence on classic menswear, especially when mixing high and low. One of my faves is the Tokyo city boy look, combining casual pants like army fatigues with brass buttoned blazers. 🥰
Hi Reggie. Would you mind doing a comparative analysis of major SELECT SHOPS in Japan such as BEAMS, UNITED ARROWS, JOURNAL STANDARD, URBAN RESEARCH et al since they're the more accessible/attainable/affordable portals of Japanese fashion for foreigners like us who are based abroad and who can only visit Japan whenever our resources allow us? Thanks in advance.
Japanese brands revived my style. I can go into looks that make me feel like my late grandpa would love, but elevated in a way that i can appreciate. Not saying i couldn’t do it without Japan, but even my favorite western brands owe a lot to Japan in terms of fabric or construction quality, down to the preservation of the machines that America grew out of using. My yearly fashion spend is at least 85% Japanese brands now. I’m a bigger guy so it’s not easy to find my size but the cool part is when they do make my size, it sits around longer and sometimes end up on sale
@@newyorkvisionary My favorite brands to buy right now are Visvim, Kapital, Nigel Cabourn, Studio D’Artisan, & I’m looking into Nepenthes (Needles), Cottle, & Warehouse & Co
this stuff is interesting but the men's wear section and the beautiful cut of those suits and combos is outstanding, almost tempted to abandon my vintage RL collection.
I love bespoke fashion from all countries around the world, no hate. One thing is Japan does outdoor so well, I even got my sleeping bags from Sogo. It is so light and compact compare to the ones I got from REI, Sports Basement, etc.
Unable to afford many of the items but I admire the art, be it streetwear or Avent Guard, can you recommend Japanese designer books? I've a decent collection already but love to discover more
everything japan does with sneakers, jeans, sweats, hats vingage sportswear/military etc it's just so much better. i almost forgot about half the brands that are some of the best over here have whole notha level shit that just blows our shit outta the water. ie champion, north face, so many japan only released sneakers from multiple brands.
I think (as always) a bit of nuance is needed here. Yes, the Japanese’s attention to detail and way of designing and styling clothes is unmatched and I (among many others) am a huge fan. And even if they can be accused of copying the West (Bape being a prime example with the Air Force 1), they did perfect what they copied just like Lafontaine did with Aesop’s fables. Furthermore, that bit on Japanese people going abroad to learn the craft was really interesting. I remember teaching French to Japanese students who came to France to learn about wine in order to become sommeliers. However, elevating styles like Punk and streetwear participated in the commodification and gentrification of counter cultures which is also bad news for obvious reasons. As a kid grown-up in the 90s skating, being a poser was an insult. Fast forward to the 2020s, everyone is proud to be a poser. Oh and instant coffee is the worst invention of all time😂😂, I didn’t know it was Japanese but that goes to show nobody is perfect.
As far as American workwear brands go, most seem lazy in their reproductions and maintaining their own history. Many Japanese brands put in the work painstakingly reproducing various historical garments, both well-known and unknown lost brands. Many of the Japanese brands also seem to look at as a collaborative effort by eachother and not solely competition. American workwear brands just want to throw a buckleback on a modern fitting pair of pants with uncharacteristic fabric and sell it to the niche customer at two times the cost of some of the Japanese brands.
But also thanks to japan and fashion being the main..heck even the population has a play in this. Hence why work wear sucks these days.. for example, Carhartt ain't what it use to be. Stuff don't even last that long bcos of fashion

Materials. I like to see Japanese traditional clothing worked into modern cuts and looks. Kinomo etc.
Thanks for this great breakdown. Can't lie I love BAPE. the look, colors and way they bend the ape is remarkable.
I do appreciate the very stylish mens wear with cut that fits Asian bodies.

How about the Japanese styles that were adopted by the West, or should be adopted by the West.
what's that white t-shirt with the big collar, it looks cool!

Love Japanese stuff
I'm sorry but these runway shots look like a comedic parody , but I know they're real.
Most of them do..
what is that denim jacket? I originally thought it was a world war ii type i without the flaps but then I noticed it has another pocket.
What is the picture over your right shoulder???
!!!!!
Until today, I still don't understand the appeal or the ridiculous pricetags of Mastermind
