We are great fans of Segrest Farms. Every week we receive healthy fish from all over the world. Wit Segrest's help we offer an amazing variety of hard to find tropical fish.
How does my fish room video have more hit then this video lol ;) I'm coming to Segrest ;) Big thanks for everything you did for the ACA convention this year.
at 3:19 ........check out that big ol' pleco AKA Hypostomus plecostomus AKA "sucker fish" just loving life chilling out in that bigass filter or sump or whatever it is
She said new fish in their holding tank does not share same water, but yet individual tank water gets filter by the same filtration system and returns back to the tank. Am I missing something here? Or she thinks they dont share the same water
without this type of import/export we would not have a fish hobby, like someone has already stated, these fish don't fall out of the sky, really good video...
i also used to work at a petco and got my fish from them. their fancy goldfish routinely came in with anchor-worm. the petco i worked at insisted on keeping the goldfish on the tropical system without uv sterilization so the live-bearers quickly became infected by the anchor-worms. it became a huge headache and problem which my higher ups were not educated enough to deal with. they also would not allow me to get goldfish elsewhere. only segrest. so as soon as i would get the problem under control, another goldfish shipment would come in and the whole thing would start over again. that was my biggest issue with segrest. this was about 5 years ago however.
do you mean to say dovii? if so then not really. dovii grows quick and gets over 2 feet long. 55 would be a good tank to grow him out in for a short period of time, but you will have to move him into a much bigger tank pretty quickly.
I dont understand the purpose of this place. Is it like a warehouse, where fish get stored and then distributed to different pet shops or are they breeding fish themself?
Probable because of the shipping cost and bulk orders. These guys order a massive amount of fish so they get discounts in fish and shipping. If a LFS were to buy directly from Thailand A. They probably would need to buy a certain amount and B. The shipping would cost too much for them, hence massive farms from Floriday.
You see that one gal at the shipping line pour the bag of fish in with about a spoon full of water and then fill it with air? She looked flustered by the camera in her face and whoever on the other end got a bag of dry fish mush.
Gabor P I would gladly pay more for everything just to see them going back. Why do they get special treatment like bilingual education and that annoying woman who babbles in Spanish every time I call some 800 number? Now instant citizenship for millions of them too? It wont be long before I have to leave this country because I don't want to live in some primitive, backward dumpster the U.S, is doomed to become.
finalruner If it wasnt done this way half the fish would be probably diseased and cost 10 times as much. Dont see why you think its so bad. They would have far higher standards of health than any fish shop.
what they are doing here is great.. amazing system, it may look like a industry to you but this is the only best way to reach out to people for their hobby. wish i could visit or be a part of this place.
Where did you think the fish came from,,, They don't just drop out of the sky. Fish stores need this kind of industry so you and the rest of us can get the fish we want.
Anyone that thinks it is disgusting needs to remember that probably 60% or more of aquarium stores in the US that sell fish would get stock from here at some stage or even for certain species. DOA's happen from every single fish supplier everywhere. I am in Australia and you will sometimes get DOA's from the smallest of family run fish suppliers. But I guess it's everywhere in the world that happens. Being so far away down here we mainly get tropicals from our waters, Asia (being so close) and sometimes Europe but the travel time to here from the other side of the world means that by the time fish get here they are almost at their end tether from being in the air for 30 hours. No matter how much you try to tranquillise or slow down the ammonia waste from the fish no fish is gonna enjoy 30 hour flights...not many humans do either!
Why don’t you offer a better selection of fishes to your local market? Example; the local PetSmart sometimes doesn’t get new fish for weeks, sometimes they get dead fish, or sickly bags of fish.
I’ve just started posting videos of my outdoor pond! I got a cool one of my inverted 10 gallon aquarium. Tell me what you think if you get time to check it out. Thanks
Those poor fish..notice the way they are packed and dumped into those boxes..could'nt they be handled a little gentler and with lights dimmer..bright lights do shock and stress fish
+Arunachalam Sivasubramaniam a lot are probably drugged, and most fish are tougher than u think. Have to remeber this is a business and this is the way things need to be done in order to get the fish where everyone wants. Dimming the lights can be a big safety hazard.
dennis van race*. Its true though right? If they had dim lights and someone trips and injures themselves they get sued. Also they might not pass safety inspections. For those more timid fish they pack them with strands of garbage bags, a few leaves, and even small makeshift rocks or caves. Its all the fish really need. To say the company doesnt care about the livelihood of there product doesnt make sense. If they were to be unhealthy or die theyd lose money.
+sioSIN SIN , correction, all of "that" because people like MONEY! and selling fish to newbs that keep killing them in their attempt at "keeping" them makes these farms millions of dollars.
TÜRKIYEDEN ÇOK SELÂMLAR balık üretim tesisleri çok güzel 👍🏻🎁🔔
Screw DisneyWorld. THIS is a place I would like to visit.
ExBruinsFan you must be a very boring person
Very cool informative video! Thanks for making this video!
Amazing setup. Runs like a factory!
This is an awesome operation, would love to walk through this place.. Looks very organized.
Go to their website. They offer tours weekly.
We are great fans of Segrest Farms. Every week we receive healthy fish from all over the world. Wit Segrest's help we offer an amazing variety of hard to find tropical fish.
There's a pleco in the filter sump 3:17
Lol I saw that too
lol dammm
+xnreyescj They live quite happily in there.I had one that lived in a sump filter for years.Helps keep the algae down too.
Average plecos are nearly impossible to kill lol. I'm sure it was happy as hell in there.
This is exactly why we do this. I work there.
They are surprisingly rough with the fish. Amazing that they survive.
How does my fish room video have more hit then this video lol ;) I'm coming to Segrest ;) Big thanks for everything you did for the ACA convention this year.
1.48 lol nice work suits. Great video btw
LOL 1:56 those biceps!
at 3:19 ........check out that big ol' pleco AKA Hypostomus plecostomus AKA "sucker fish" just loving life chilling out in that bigass filter or sump or whatever it is

Am I missing something here? Or she thinks they dont share the same water
I wonder if the workers can buy direct for their tanks?
They do :D
Awesome That's a good connection to have!!
Do you give tours?
without this type of import/export we would not have a fish hobby, like someone has already stated, these fish don't fall out of the sky, really good video...

Whoa, I live in Tampa and never even knew this place existed. Cool!
Sandy dont beleive i ever spoke to you . I was Segrest biggest account in the late 80s and 90s. Say hi to Jack and Elwyn. Frank from ElPaso tx.
Would like to visit to meet Sandy 🤗
Nice! It's great seeing how my suppliers shipped my fish to me! Unfortunately I closed my pet shop...
I use to get their fish at Petco when I was in control of the fish section. Always came shipped nicely but would always get DOA's of course
i also used to work at a petco and got my fish from them. their fancy goldfish routinely came in with anchor-worm. the petco i worked at insisted on keeping the goldfish on the tropical system without uv sterilization so the live-bearers quickly became infected by the anchor-worms. it became a huge headache and problem which my higher ups were not educated enough to deal with. they also would not allow me to get goldfish elsewhere. only segrest. so as soon as i would get the problem under control, another goldfish shipment would come in and the whole thing would start over again.
that was my biggest issue with segrest. this was about 5 years ago however.
It explains a lot about the quality of fish which is very poor at Petco.
isn't segrest farm the one featured in the tv series: Tanked??? :)
Can I ask a question?Do the fish require some documents that they are in good healt?I mean when you go to sell them in your own country, not outside.
no they do not in all countries I know of.
Cheers
I would LOVE to work there, plus I would be buying tons of fish haha
its just like any other factory job. standing on the line and doin the same tasks over and over.
Right, But I wouldnt mind this job!
Fisherys are a great place to work cause you get to take the fish home :D my friend use to do that a lot
I bet ! I would do that alot haha
My co worker use to bring me the best you could get for Penny's too, you can get the fish at the fishery price so its so cheap
Is a 55 gallon fish tank good for a dovai male fish
do you mean to say dovii? if so then not really. dovii grows quick and gets over 2 feet long. 55 would be a good tank to grow him out in for a short period of time, but you will have to move him into a much bigger tank pretty quickly.
I now got him a 90 gallon tank thanks for the insight
Craig Williams
cool. he can definitely rock that tank for longer than a 55. the extra width will be appreciated.
Is all of that plastic biodegradable?
NO WAY! the kordon ad at 6:53 for the ich attack sucks. very expensive and shows no results.
I'm glad to hear 90% is tank raised.
great video
Great facility. I would love to own this type of business one of these days!
I live in Tampa Florida is there anyway I can come in visit and buy fish from your farm.
How do you order
how do i order these fish in australia?
this is how fish storing and supplying is done correctly!
Thailand take notes
Why should they take note? You do know they have vastly superior and higher quality fish than we do.
Do realize. What we are currently doing, Thailand has been done. Thailand mainly was the tropical fish trade hub for the longest time.
What is the name of the place?
Segrest Farms
1:35 I'm from Singapore too!
Timothy Yap I didn't see you in the tank.🤣
7:48 + uh.. wheres the wattterrr
looked like snails, depending on the species they're sometimes shipped dry.
Awesome!!
They are the largest distributor and tropical fish farm in the world by volume. They do both as well as breeding in house.
Do you guys ship to ontario canada?
They do, but you need to be licensed to sell fish to purchase them.
ok thanks, I guess I won't be able to buy.
Cheers
Would be nice if they ship to the Caribbean
what is the name of the store
Sigh
I wish a single person could buy from them🐠
@7:51 girl bags fish without water???
Jeff Eaton those were snails
That is VERY LOUD!!!
Amquel plus did not reduce nitrite but lowered ph, not recommended.
You see that one gal at the shipping line pour the bag of fish in with about a spoon full of water and then fill it with air? She looked flustered by the camera in her face and whoever on the other end got a bag of dry fish mush.
yes I did notice that,,lol
She was bagging snails. Its funny how many people missed that. Its mentioned often in these comments for you short yellow bus riders.
my dream to own something like this. would even consider quitting my high-paying job to do so.
Gabor P I would gladly pay more for everything just to see them going back. Why do they get special treatment like bilingual education and that annoying woman who babbles in Spanish every time I call some 800 number? Now instant citizenship for millions of them too? It wont be long before I have to leave this country because I don't want to live in some primitive, backward dumpster the U.S, is doomed to become.
they looked like snails, which can live over a week without being in water, and not being in water probably helps so as to not produce excess ammonia
holy cow this is awesome
The garbage bag trick is a good idea
I can assure you now the amount of fish that are captive bred would be under 1%.. Unless they only stock clown fish & cardinals.
some fish are half impossible to breed so yeah they are lying
You have to remember the freshwater fish too!
This was my first job.
95% raised????....have a hard time believing that
bro its a swet shop with dose mexicans and cubins
This seems to industrialized. Aquarium fish should be a hobby and passion. Not a factory process. This makes fish seem nothing less than canned meat.
This is where fish come before there shipped to stores where we buy them :)
this is terrible lmao, I knew this had to happen somehow but still :(
finalruner If it wasnt done this way half the fish would be probably diseased and cost 10 times as much. Dont see why you think its so bad. They would have far higher standards of health than any fish shop.

Where did you think the fish came from,,, They don't just drop out of the sky. Fish stores need this kind of industry so you and the rest of us can get the fish we want.
Those were apple snails she bagged without water, not fish lol
this is a hobby not a factory chicken this a living things
Tank raised fish etc are fish caught in the wild and then raised in tanks......must be a way to get funding...funding terminology.

one day, machines and robots will replace this farm. There will only be robots distributing the fish
Skip to 4:30 for hormone food !!
Why don’t you offer a better selection of fishes to your local market? Example; the local PetSmart sometimes doesn’t get new fish for weeks, sometimes they get dead fish, or sickly bags of fish.
wowwee!! what a place!!
can you just walk up and buy fish from them
www.segrestfarms.com/
Richard Needham
Only if you own a petshop/LFS unfortunately. It fuckin sucks.
I’ve just started posting videos of my outdoor pond! I got a cool one of my inverted 10 gallon aquarium. Tell me what you think if you get time to check it out. Thanks
So many I want them all
ATM ATM Segrest is awesome
0:43 poor fish
Those poor fish..notice the way they are packed and dumped into those boxes..could'nt they be handled a little gentler and with lights dimmer..bright lights do shock and stress fish

and that is the human raise being selfish, dont dim the lights becouse of our safety but dont think about the fish

Maybe some Kenny g. Not to loud though.
those are snails
😔it’s sad. 95% of these fish will die a slow and miserable death. I’m glad they come from farms but still...
hacen envíos fuera de los estados unidos
That is where ATM get there freshwater fish.
damn that farm is H U G E!...
super
Kept waiting to hear her say we cut up trash bags to simulate their natural habitat. She doesn't seem like a fish person she seems all business
VERY IRRITATING ADVERTISEMENT SO BIG,IT COVERS THE SCREEN
I wonder if the company could run without those Hispanic workers ?🤔
My first name is reece
omg thats so sad..... close that shit
Close animal farms too. That's the same part!
Note to myself: i will never ever order fish to such a freaking horrible industrial food/fish factory. Disgusting. (and bye bye Hikari BTW)
😚
INS Can I see your green cards?
commercial commercial commercial
All of this just because people like pet fish. It's really funny when you think about it :)
+sioSIN SIN , correction, all of "that" because people like MONEY! and selling fish to newbs that keep killing them in their attempt at "keeping" them makes these farms millions of dollars.
C
Not impressed
crap farm
not a farm. a warehouse. what a bunch of fools.
