I use to buy tropical fish from segrest in the 1980 all the way up to 1999. They sold the most exotic fish in the world. My pet store was know for having the most exotic fish. Jack and Alean would take my order every Monday. Great supplier. From segrest farm to El Paso Tex.
The fact that they breed and keep the glofish in outdoor, in ground ponds surprised me. I figured a fish like that they'd keep and breed indoors, in tubs/ponds/aquariums like the holding tanks they brought them into... 😮
Can you ask California commission to end the ban on Glofish? The Law is from 2003 and before the Glofish were made. This really sucks that we can't get Glofish in this state.
uhh thought that was lifted? You could just go to Oregon, Nevada or Arizona and get them or order them in online. They rarely check if the fish is illegal where you are if it's a private seller. I get certain fish that are illegal in my state by going to the next state or ordering them in. It's no big deal. Ya know you got to be the hero of your own life sometimes.
My LPS says that one of their main suppliers is Segrest Farms. I think it's cool that they're trying to support local fish stores, but I've wondered for awhile if they sell to big chain pet stores as well. Do stores like Petco and PetSmart get their fish from Segrest as well?
Well DUH! Yes they supply Petco/PetSmart/Walmart etc they are one of the biggest ones in the US. Segrest usually has low quality fish though, you're seeing the best in this video for obvious reasons but they are usually poor quality lines especially with the livebearers I've seen some really ugly poor lines from this distributor. I was talking to a LFS owner a couple weeks ago because I was looking into a business license and everything I needed to be able to order from wholesalers I mentioned this one and some others and he said that segrest is their least desired one to order from, he'd go with any other wholesaler over segrest lots of DOA's and parasites/diseases and most generally poor quality stock. He said they also don't like to credit DOA's easily said they'd do everything they can to get out of it. Obviously that would be different for a big chain but not a LFS or petshop.
Ernesto Estrada I hope you are getting more than 2. GloFish prefer to be in schools and if not can become very stressed. If you get Tetras get around 5 Danios since they’re smaller should be in groups of 8 and the Tiger Barnes should be 5 or more aswell.

Kzibell086 actually with the research you realize that the glow fish don't really glow, they're just a fluorescent color like albino is a color
but with that come a lot of defects... especially the new bettas that theyre "making."
