One of my favorite parts of Giratina's theme is that at 1:16 is the sound of a heart monitor literally flatlining. Really cool detail that I feel like not a lot of people notice.
If Palkia is space, and Dialga is time, Giratina is like... Entropy. He's labeled the Renegade pokemon, and turned on Arceus after it created these three pokemon. It was banished to its own dimension, Distortion World, and is basically the pokemon equivalent of Satan. So that's why his theme is the way it is. This music also played at a particularly tense moment during the final battle in PLA, which contributes.
I remember Giratina being confirmed as the embodiment of Anti-matter. It can cause entropy when it comes into contact with matter (what Arceus is the embodiment of). You could say it reacts violently when it interacts with matter/Arceus despite Arceus having to create Giratina in order to stabilize itself. The source I had for this is long since gone (you should do your own research here) but I do like either idea of entropy or antimatter. Both work.
I wouldn't say Gira's satan. Are they still mad at Arceus for basically putting them in time out in their own world? Yes, Masters EX outright has N and Iris state that Giratina doesn't want to talk about Arceus. Despite that one time in the distant past and working with Volo, Giratina has done more good surprisingly, it stepped in to stop Cyrus from destroy reality, Generations even showed that it just took Cyrus away (no rift present at all). When Volo comments on Giratina fleeing, he comments that they want the current world to remain as is. Even Cynthia, who is a sync pair with Gira in Masters, comments that the Pokédex is wrong about Giratina being a violent entity that wants to usurp Arceus. Even the movies (as questionable in canon as they are at times), Giratina isn't depicted as a vengeful entity who wants nothing but wanton destruction, just someone mad that their home was destroyed due to their siblings warring with each other.
A sequel to okami was announced recently, so now would be a very convenient time to do a few analyses of okami songs, especially since you did an analysis of one of the themes in the past.
To answer your questions about Giratina in the lore, it’s basically the God of Antimatter. The antithesis of creation. Arceus, the closest thing to actual “God”, banished it to the Distortion World after witnessing its destructiveness. Over time, it sought escape and to destroy Arceus’ world. A person named Volo helped. After being defeated by the player, and eventually getting caught, it’s speculated by some that spending time with the player made Giratina see the beauty in the world, and grow to love it. After the events of Legends: Arceus, when Cyrus tried the same thing Volo did, Giratina is the one to stop him, dragging him into the Distortion World.
Well it makes sense that it'd be disorienting and disturbing. Giratina is the literal devil. Arceus created 3 deities. Dialga the pokemon of time, Palkia the pokemon of space, and thus I assumed Giratina was the pokemon of Matter. However, Giratina did something so horrible that Arceus banished them into the Distortion world, a dimension of pure anti matter and chaos. Giratina in turn is one of the few pokemon with malicious intent, holding designs to consume Arceus' creation and drown them into nothingness. So naturally, the 10 year old with a rat should be given the power to contain and control them.
Though some of Giratina's appearences contradict this. Biggest one was in "Arceus and the Jewel of Life" where Giratina fought alongside Palkia and Dialga to hold Arceus at bay.
@sanemaniac7416 yes but that's the anime and not the games. In any talk of canon game lore takes priority considering the anime isn't really canon to them

Awesome video, I didn't even fight Giratina long enough to get through the whole theme like this so this had a lot of new bits for me too. And I've played Arceus through soon 3 times, lol
One of my favorite themes in the franchise! Ive always thought that one part where it slows down before the chaos is a like a heart monitor flat lining. This version of the theme plays at such a good time too. Most players their first time fully let their guards down during the game and this theme suddenly plays. It was such a good boss battle in a pokemon game. I really like that 6 beat chaotic part. Its very fitting considering giratinas design has a lot of sixes. Lorewise, its the pokemon of the shadows, the opposite towards Arceus's light. In order to seek that light that left away, the ancient people of that era destroyed the statues dedicated to giratina and left the region in their search. Due to the amount of sixes and being the opposite of the literal pokemon god people call it the devil of pokemon. As well as it being one of the antagonists of this game. It was banished to a realm called the distortion world for its violent nature. I dont really see it as the devil. I do see it as the pokemon that represents anti matter, where it was created as and equal opposite to the creation of everything else, and if antimatter comes in contact with matter, something called annihilation happens. So of course it will be violent, but it has a purpose in residing in the distortion world. Being sectioned off and any reverence toward it being snuffed out while its two siblings are still loved, of course itd be bitter.
Giratina is meant to be intense and unsettling, it is a being of antimatter, the antithesis to our world, banished to the distortion world after trying to destroy reality. And damn does it sound like it.
You did a reaction to the Platinum remake version of the Giratina theme but i think the video got taken down. You also brought up the 4 beat to 6 beat change.
"There's a particularly pokemon game which apparently has very good music which we haven't covered yet" WOW DO YOU MEAN POKEMON MYSTERY DUNGEON "it's pokemon legends arceus" yeah that tracks...
one thing i find cool about the theme is that you can hear a heart monitor sound along side a heart beat and when it slows down, and then flat line soun, it makes Giratina feel like a threat imo
I think you should do reaction on Silent Hill 2 tracks, like Promise and Theme of Laura. Remake versions of this tracks are insane. Btw, great channel and very interesting explanations
This theme ingame actually starts with the shorter section (so basically remove the first part of the track and start from that section), once the bombastic section kicks in the game takes a real turn towards the realm of 'oh sh*t!'
This theme may be the most chaotic in the franchise. Necrozma and Deoxys are bizarre but not quite in the same way. This very much feels like a VERY intense and distorted version of the standard battle theme. A distorted whirlwind. The chaos to Arceus's order. I recommend these legendary pokémon as well: • Guardian Deities • Treasures of Ruin • Palkia/Dialga • Terapagos
Honestly, when i first time heared that music, i kinda clench my teeth. For as much of a well constructed one is it (i appreciate the idea of distorsion - obvious somehow but still appropriate for Giratina - reverbs and sudden shifts) it sound just like an angry cacophony most of time for me. When i listen it, i don't feel any of the wonder or tense of usual Pokemon themes, nor the threat or sheer evilness of a Soulsborn stuff. But cool video ! Even if i'm still a bit mad knowing against *what* it won, it always cool to listen what you think of it
Giratina is a very unique pokemon lore-wise. It was supposedly created directly be Arceus (the pokemon that made all pokemon, basically god), to go alongside Dialga and Palkia (the pokemon who control time and space, basically deities in their own right). But due to Giratina's violent nature, Arceus banished Giratina to a separate dimension called the distortion world, where concepts like time and space don't work quite right. It's an empty void with some floating rocks and not much else. Giratina can still glimpse into the real world, and even figured out a way to create portals from one world to the other, but when it's in the distortion world, it is completely alone. But if it enters the real world, it changes form to one with legs and wings instead of a freely flying worm/serpent thing. The lore and both forms have design inspirations from Satan (created by God but then cast out due to violence, Giratina having 6 spikes, rings, tendrils, legs, etc, like 666), but at the same time, Giratina only seems to show up when something is seriously wrong with the balance of the world, like Cyrus using Dialga and Palkia in Platinum... or if it is summoned directly, like in Legends Arceus. This theme sounds so unsettling in part because the song plays around with those dotted rhythms that don't line up with the beat, and the constant shifting from one feel to another... perfect for a pokemon from a world where time and space do not apply. But on top of that, summoning Giratina is kinda like the pokemon version of a satanic ritual. This is a pokemon that should not be interacting with any other because it was too violent in the past, face to face with whatever team of pokemon you bring. It's like asking an eagle, a sentient plant, a dog that can breathe fire, whatever you have, to fight the actual devil. Just a wild concept all around. Hopefully that gives you some more context for Giratina, because it's honestly a really interesting bit of pokemon lore.
Completely alone until it grabs someone to bring there. We never do find out what Giratina did to be banished. "For its violence" is so vague. And being the embodiment of antimatter may mean that it's violent just by existing and can't turn it off.
9:21 in the original Diamond Pearl and Platinum games, the trainer battle did have a little piano break down which kinda sounds similar, but thats the closest one i could think of.
Honestly its such a stark contrast to the rest of the Pokemon Legends Arceus ost, especially in contrast to Dialga and Palkia's theme. Also the theme being disorienting and chaotic is absolutely on point for Giratina as a pokemon. I think the most awesome differences in both versions of Giratina's theme in PLA is there's one that's story based and one that is when you find him in the wild. There's such subtle differences in the music, but from what I remember, one sounds a little more orchestral and the other more like the Platinum version. Like the mixing has been changed in both versions so that certain parts are more noticeable than others.
Oh woah, it seems I have Giratina, I didn't remember that lol. The music is so cool,I probably didn't pay attention :(. Wish I had known about this 8 years ago. This method looks infinitely more fun than redoing the start of the game more than 6000 times💀 I did end up getting it, but good Lord, this would’ve been nice.
One of my favorite parts of Pokemon DP lore is the relationship between Champion Cynthia and Giratina. In Legends, Volo (Ancestor to Cynthia) and Giratina almost "team up" in a way, but in the modern Pokemon era, Cynthia resists and battles Giratina. At the same time, there's just a hint of "Distortion" in Cynthia's battle theme, maybe momentarily referencing a lineage of desire for power? I'm just yappin, but pokemon is so cool and so is Demon Worm Giratina
At 8:30, it reminds me of the champion theme from pokemon ruby and saphyr, personnaly Also maybe the gym leader theme from ruby and saphyr. In both cases it's in the very begining
Ultra Necrozma From Pokemon Ultra sun and Ultra moon its very good. Also the space wormhole ost from the same game is also great if u want. Literally i never ever hear anyone bring this one up
OKay yes Giratina's chaotic melody comes from Giratina's origin, it represents Antimatter and lives in the Distortion World, a complete nonsensical world without rime or reason. The music just amplifies that part of the lore all the more. And that startup you mention at the 9:20 mark is just another remixed part of the original one, with the soundscape of Cynthia
Giratina is inspired of a lot of things Most obvious one is primordial chaos from greek myths Tho any kinda similar stuff can work Tho game calls it antimatter and we know he is more powerful than space and time pokemon lore is a whole thing
Thats normal that you didn't encounter Giratina or either this theme during DP because Giratina isn't an important legendary and act as the third secret legendary like Rayquaza kyurem or zygarde for exemple. He only got his iconic theme and origin form during pokemon platinium. What i can tell is that i think this version is even faster than the og theme which was already one of the most intense theme in pokemon. I think it is a way to show how different giratina is between legends and platinium. In the big lines, he basically helps out the player and even saves the world during the events of platinium where he acts as a protector, while his mythological role was already showed, him being portrayed as a Renegade pokemon, banished by Arceus (the creator of the universe and probably more) in the distorsion world. To say, this portray of giratina feels completly out of place according to his story role in platinium. However, in Pla he is revealed to be one of the main antagonist and basically the origin of everything that happened during the game. Here i think this theme portrays that as it is a way more aggresive version to represent the fact that, in this game Giratina is actually accurate to its lore, a devilish pokemon having an unending hate for its creator. As you said, it sounds all over the place and sort of distorted, like how Giratina is basically. Really like those music reactions and analyses.
If you are mentioning this music, you need to listen thorough of the whole battle or the original music. I'm so sorry but you need it. If you through, it will goosebump you. 日本人からのお願いです。これはこの曲がかっこいいだけでは終わりません!Please enjoy the whole thing!

This method looks infinitely more fun than redoing the start of the game more than 6000 times💀
I did end up getting it, but good Lord, this would’ve been nice.
I'd leave to see you analyze Cyrus's Platinum battle theme, by far one of the best villain themes in the series
At 8:30, it reminds me of the champion theme from pokemon ruby and saphyr, personnaly
Also maybe the gym leader theme from ruby and saphyr. In both cases it's in the very begining
Ultra Necrozma From Pokemon Ultra sun and Ultra moon its very good. Also the space wormhole ost from the same game is also great if u want. Literally i never ever hear anyone bring this one up
seus videos são foda mlk, todo sucesso do mundo pra vc!
You should also look at the dialga/palkia battle theme from arceus if you haven't already. It took me so off guard the first time I heard it.
They definitely took giratina's original theme from platinum and cramcket it up to 11 here
OKay yes Giratina's chaotic melody comes from Giratina's origin, it represents Antimatter and lives in the Distortion World, a complete nonsensical world without rime or reason.
The music just amplifies that part of the lore all the more.
And that startup you mention at the 9:20 mark is just another remixed part of the original one, with the soundscape of Cynthia
It's also a sequence that features prominently in Steven's classic theme, just before the looping point!
Giratina is inspired of a lot of things
Most obvious one is primordial chaos from greek myths
Tho any kinda similar stuff can work
Tho game calls it antimatter and we know he is more powerful than space and time pokemon lore is a whole thing
I never heard this before! Amazing track indeed!
If you are mentioning this music, you need to listen thorough of the whole battle or the original music. I'm so sorry but you need it. If you through, it will goosebump you. 日本人からのお願いです。これはこの曲がかっこいいだけでは終わりません!Please enjoy the whole thing!
That section at 8:51 sounds like Lance's theme from Gold/Silver/Crystal to me.
Hi Davi vasc I don't know if you want to, but I recommend that you listen to the song by Sealed Vessel But not the normal one, rather the cover of "the man from the internet" is very good and has several covers of the hollow knight boss songtracks, it is singing but I still tell you that you should listen to it Thank you very much for your attention to this message.
Arceus theme from legends arceus
Just
Perfect
Can you talk about the Regi Trio battle music in the original GBA games?
There are also some bangers in scarlett and violette like ai professor and penny
Kieran
To do the AI one you'd also have to listen to everything else it draws from, like the tera raid theme and the Area Zero themes as well.
I would recommend heearing the original theem and comparee it. i love his chaotic feeling
davi should listen to the shovel knight flying machine theme
You should also do Alabaster Icelands from Arceus
Now we have to see a react to wielder Volo it’s soo good
Giratina's (original) theme is very similar to Alatreon's to me.
I have a feeling Giratina would be good friends with Disufiroa….
disturbing, or Distorted? lol
I recommend playing Platinum if you want more context on Giratina
Thank you.
Please review The Ultimate Experience from CrossCode.
This cursed guitar, almost make me not angry for have to do this stupd figth two times.
Hooe you can do team star grunt and boss from skarlet violet next time
React to a song called Fear,It is from a game called Block Tales is almost good as undertale
HECK YEAH
Please do finale from undertale
Tbh, even if it's cool, I must say I prefer the old one
❤
Please react to Pure Vessel
It kinda sounds tinny and way to varied. You can't get into it.
If only the context of the song did make me hate this song… that being that You just FINISHED PHASE 1 of a three part no heal break boss battle and that phase 1 just so happened to use a team comp that’s almost an exact replica OF CYNTINA( who is considered the toughest Pokemon champion BTW)’s POKEMON TEAM…man fuck the Volvo fight… if there was a Heal/save break I’d wouldn’t be complaining as a challenge is something Pokémon fans have been looking for
The Volo battle was one my two losses in the game, the fight was indeed a challenge.
Let’s be so real though, if that fight wasn’t a non-stop/no heal battle, it wouldn’t be nearly as memorable.
Get better.
I managed to beat him on the first try but GOD it was clutch. If I hadn't stocked up on Max Revives (some of which he sold me) and brought two tanks with me to eat hits, I'd have been lost.
