The one thing you gotta appreciate about later gen dexes is that they are basically organized by the areas. Especially gen 5. You can just go route by route and fill in stuff and any blanks you can look at what's around it and go "I'm missing something by Sandile so what else is in the dessert?"

A trick to remember Elgyem; it's the alien pokemon, and as such its name is literally the abbreviation of Little Green Man. LGM = Elgyem. It's the same for Beheeyem too, with Bug-Eyed Monster. BEM = Beheeyem. I have never had any interest in those mons but learning the etymology just made me remember them forever.
Same in french where Elgyem name is Lewsor (Roswell in reverse, one of the most popular UFO stories in the world) and Beheeyem's name is Neitram (Martien, literally '' from Mars '') !

Over this past summer, I found this quiz (especially after sporcle would absolutely destroy my laptop with ads) and I would spend an hour everyday typing as many pokemon as I could. I still sometimes pull it up to test myself, but I try to get as far as I can in the span of an hour. I can get between 950-980 most days within an hour, but I have not yet named all of them in less than an hour. I constantly forget about Stufful and Bewear, as well as most Gen 9 mons (because I didn't play gen 9 rip)
I've been doing this for a long time now (before gen 9 camen out), and a way that works for me is to group them, for examble all the snake pokemon (Ekans - Onix - Seviper - Orthworm - Gyarados - Milotic) or bears (Teddiurda - Stufful - Pancham - Kubfu - Pansear/pansage/panpour) and keep going til the end.
