Game Composer Reacts to APPROACHING CHAMPION CYNTHIA from POKÉMON BDSP

- Today we're listening to the imposing theme that plays when you approach Champion Cynthia in Pokémon BDSP. I don't think I ever got to Cynthia when I first played Pokemon Diamond & Pearl years ago. Listening to this now makes me at least appreciate how scary of an encounter Cynthia was!

Hey, I did another video on Pokemon music recently! It was about the BATTLE TOWER theme from Pokemon S&W. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/yAp4ihddkjo/v-deo.html
sword and weild
@@dazcarrr S&S* lmao
@@DaviVasc you should react to pokemon legend arceus midnight theme
PLZ ANALYZE XENOGEARS OST
It's a hella god game, a gem of the PS1 era
"they're trying to portray her as intimidating"
yeah no sh*t her champion team was intimidating enough for my childhood
Therapist: you have successfully recovered from your DP ptsd.
Cards Declined:
Therapist:- ‘piano intensifies’
Ah, yes, the Bazelgeuse theme of Pokémon.
Thanks, now I can't stop imagining him and Cynthia's Garchomp swapping places.
I'm contacting my lawyer - as soon as I stop laughing...
she may have done it once, but what would stop her from ambushing us in the future
I also like when people say about her actual theme: "wait where is the low hp sound"
"wow, so many notes" - Davi Vasc, an actual composer
"wow, so many notes" - me, who never touched a piano
"Wow, so many notes" - me, Who want to learn and play it (Maybe in 10 years)
Since you've reacted to this, you should also react to Volo's battle theme from Pokemon Legends: Arceus!
PL:A is a game connected to DDP/BDSP lore wise.
Yep. Which makes sense considering Hisui is ancient Sinnoh as it's being colonized
Cynthia remains the best pokemon champion of all time. She's always helpful and kind when you meet her in game prior to the elite four, but in battle she's professional, efficient, and well prepared, with the most intimidating team in the game. She has well rounded movesets on some of the the best non-legendary pokemon in the game. She has a mix of bulky stalling pokemon that are hard to remove and fast, powerful sweepers (notably her Garchomp) as well as the best AI. In the remake she even has optimized stat spreads and inteligent held items. Cynthia is exactly what the music depicts: classy personality but fearsome skill in battle.
The Flame Orb Marvel Scale Milotic was beyond devious. I used it a ton in some of my other Pokemon playthroughs, so I wasn’t expecting to have it be used against me, especially since a majority of Milotic users run Competitive.
If there's one thing I can give BDSP credit for it's upping Cynthia (and by extension the E4's) difficulty. BDSP more like PTSD
@@BluesKirby Yeah, I expected Cynthia to be easy since fairy type exists rendering Garchomp much less of a threat.
@@emeraldfinder5That’s why I bought 99 Max revives just for my Clefable :>
I was too scared to fight without that
@@dontworry8953 I went in with two of my pokemon dead and no revives. Took me 12 hours and a ton of TMs to get myself out of that situation without losing
I'd have loved to hear him react to both this piece and her battle theme side-by-side since this really serves as an introduction that sets the tone for how you're meant to feel while her battle theme plays. They're two parts of a whole that, while still phenomenal on their own, really need each other to get across the complete spectrum of emotions they're meant to convey.
Cynthia the type of person to see you crash your bike on the side of the road, pick you up, offer you a bandaid, buy you a treat, and then also be the single most dangerous trainer in the country.
something I've always admired about classical music is how the composers always seem to lean into the cliches, like they do what you expect them to do but they put their own twist on it which makes it sound super unique and distinct even though you know you've heard this harmony a dozen times before
I always felt like Cynthia's theme was speaking to me as the player, saying "I'm glad you could make it. Welcome to the start of your journey"
Ooohyeah, didn't expected to see a pokemon theme here, but that one deserve it. Thanks you Davi
Cynthia, Champion of the Sinnoh Region. Often considered among the kindest and most elegant of Champions, as well as one of the strongest and most intimidating.
speaking of a cadenza, i wouldnt be all that surprised if they originally had it in mind in the original games, as they were trying to push the limits of the hardware the DS had with pokemon and also piano being the stand out instrument in the generation IV soundfont, they leaned heavy on the piano in the soundtrack as a whole
I love this track. This is also a real good rendition of the track. When i was kid playing pearl, i remember getting to the champions room and i immediately felt present in the room, a lot more focused than i was. I did beat her first try, but her Garchomp and Milotic really left an impact. Later i heard how so many people struggled with her. And then when i saw her in pokemon Black i felt the same immediate tension and pressure as i listened to the track. Theres just something about the character and this theme in particular. Then they had to bring it to Legends Arceus and the silence into this themed turned into a battle theme was epic. The pokemon masters remixes are good too.
It’s really interesting that she’s so inspired by these classical musicians and styles, in the anime she’s portrayed as a historian, what a cool nod
Everyone loves Cynthia's battle theme. It's fantastic, no doubt about it. But THIS. THIS THEME is the one that really stuck with me.
I feel like it gets overlooked so often by the actual battle theme, though, so it was great to hear an analysis of the Approach theme.
I'm never going to hear the opening to Beethoven's 5th symphony quite the same way again...
I don’t know anything about Pokémon music besides that Pennys theme from the latest game absolutely slaps
you have been blessed if you have forgotten her theme, that gives veteran player full on ptsd
you should listen to Volo's battle theme from "pokemon legends arceus", it's basically an orchestral reprise of this theme.
She was so intimidating, I felt my attack lowering.
Gotta get that Clear Body.
I have this theme as my ringtone.
A theme for someone who's imposing and elegant...? I'm trying to see how much of PLA I should spoil for you. But if you DO do Volo's theme like people are suggesting, get one that *doesn't* have a video attached to it because it plays during a VERY spoiler event. And before you do that, listen to Cynthia's battle music, including the Renegade remix from Pokemon Masters.
To continue in this way of pokemon i propose the final theme of primal dialga in pokemon mistery dungeon 2. I love so much this music she's so emotionaly and beautiful 🤩
We really need a Chairman rose reaction. It would be so awesome, it would be so cool.
It is crazy how much info of the char Davi can get by just listening to it’s theme. I myself learned how composers think and tried to use that in music class and it is so much more fun XD
Edit: HOORAY DAMIAN :DDDD
Here's hoping we get more videos on music from Pokemon in the future like this one
Davi you need to listen to Volo’s theme!! It will definitely make and interesting video, Volo is an ancestor of Cynthia and it has many connections with this theme
Maaan, thanks to react to this, if you can react to Cynthia's Battle Theme, then you can react to Volo's battle theme an hear the references on that one, nice video!
I somehow got through her fight in one go, but I didnt realize how high her pokemons levels were and I was woefully under leveled, my god that was a fight to remember, worthy of any and all badass music given.
I'd highly recommend some of the music from pokemon scarlet and violet. Especially area 0 and the professors' battle theme
Beethoven's technique, which began with a powerful keyboard strike, was perfected in "Ode to Joy," and no one in history has seen a better invention than this technique, which transcends music to allow the blind to feel joy through the pressure of sound.
I dare say that rock, heavy metal, grindcore, etc., which regulate brain waves with unpleasant sounds, may be the only inventions of this kind.
Her battle theme next, please. It's so amazing. She really deserves that fearsome and intimidating sounding theme, because that's exactly what she was to 10 year old me when I played this game.
Beethoven?! In MY pokémon? 😲🤬
Jokes aside, I love how these video game music analysis videos always make me learn something new :D
one of my favorite songs honestly
An yes the terror of my childhood
You're welcome for the suggestion! It was the music before her battle. You don't learn anything really about her in the lead up to the Elite 4 and her battle, and for a lot of people her team was incredibly hard to battle, so they'd lose and every time, have to come back, try to speed through her pre-battle speech, and have to listen to this piece every time until they finally won.
I'm really pleased with this analysis! I never thought about it sounding similar to Toccata and Fuge before now, so that adds to the dramatics of the piece, definitely!
they are going SO hard here, and the battle hasn't even started yet...
6:10 yeah don't worry no one does. I don't remember
Her personality also varies WILDLY depending on the continuity
The funny thing is it’s oddly uncommon for champions to have a unique theme just for talking to them before the battle
There is a successor to this with Volos theme from legends arceus
Huh, that "short, short, short long" bit on classical music is a neat bit of musical knowledge, though the first piece of music that came to mind when you began talking about it wasn't classical, it was "Those Who Fight Further" from Final Fantasy 7.
Hi Davi! I was in the chat for three hours of the suggestion stream, and one of my votes was for "Surgery Of A Hope" from Baldur's Gate 3. Would really appreciate it if you had a listen, or at least took a note to check it out during a video on tracks from that game. Nobody has reacted to it here so far, despite it being such a good track!
Beethoven would have been mad he didn't write that piano piece.
All of the music surrounding Cynthia is absolutely top notch and totally not what I expected from a Pkmn game.
Cynthia is a lesson in pain and Garchomp will be your teacher.
I’ve been waiting for this
babybabybabybabybaby
That short-short-short-long could be a light motif of victory road from the first pokémon game. I think it's just sped up.
Hi Davi! Suggestion: Sobre Sus Costales from Blasphemous 2 ; ). Video: Oh, so cool, I love classical music, I don't have much knowledge, but I have some classical tracks in my old playlist, so great video. Speaking of pokemon Diamond and Pearl, I really like the theme from the route 216, the snowy route, one of the few tracks I remember from pokemon, very cool.
That's it. ¡Adiós Davi!
Btw I can't wait to see your genuine reaction to October ends ' new song 🤘
Hey Davi, how're you doing? I have a request of songs you could listen to in your next videos.
I really like the Ori and The Will of The Wisps OST, and there are some songs that are THAT good, and you should really consider listening to them.
You should do a video(s) on Persona 3/4/5 OST, especially the ones like Danger Zone or The battle hymn of the soul :>
Everybody loves Cynthia!
I have another unique FromSoftware track for you!! You have to listen to Renalla Queen of the Full Moon from Elden Ring. Definitely unique for Soulsbourne track
Could you make a video react to Final Fantasy 12 intro music?
that one song, give alot of people ptsd
Check the Cup of Liber-tea next!
The theme of an entire generation of pokemon players trauma. Love this theme. Also: They basically send you in blind against her. You meet her like 1 or 2 times in the story and I dont think you ever see her fight. So you meet her in the league as champion and this starts playing. You immediately know what kind of fight you are getting. IMO anyway.
5:25 short-short-short looong ♪ :)
Slave-knight Gael from ds3 next please
Awesome video! Have you ever considered making a music theory course? I imagine a lot of your audience would be interested in it. There'd be upfront effort in making it, but then it'd become a passive income stream. It's something you could naturally promote in all of your videos. Maybe patrons get a discount etc.
Sounds intimidating?! Boy, you have no idea. Cynthia and that menacing piano managed to literally traumatize a whole generation of pokémon players.
And she lives up to her fame. She is considered by most of the community as the strongest pokémon trainer ever. Even when new characters with strong teams can't take her place at the top. Heck, even the hardest pokémon battle in recent games involves her because is against an ancestor of hers.
Speaking of ancestors, now you must react to Volo's battle theme from Pokémon Leyends Arceus. That game turns that single piano into a full orchesta filled with dread thanks to the legacy of Cynthia.
Just beat lance in hgss what a coincidence
YESSSSSS
the BDSP let me think about.. something else
please react to cascarrafa theme from scarlet and violet
Please do Purgatori by Koraii
It was my first pokemon game....i tried her...way too much
The theme that make me a musisian :')
Brothers, please do a reaction to Outlast1 music. I will give you a group of music. They are short, so it is better that you do a reaction to a group of them, please.
You should make a video for Outlast1 music! I mean, it's amazing, man. You'll be amazed. Here's a list of music to make a video about
Outlast Official Soundtrack _ 01 Main Menu
Outlast Official Soundtrack _ 02 Welcome to the Asylum
Outlast Official Soundtrack _ 40 Finale

THANK YOU! (I can play this song on piano m.ua-cam.com/video/ckF3hYlTU1M/v-deo.html)
holly fck its incredible how the visuals of BD/RP completely ruins the feelings of the song, only a sec of that segment you put made me realize that. Cant wait for all gamefreak bosses to die or something and being replaced by the youth
Geez that's uncalled for. Also the game was always chibi. You just never noticed when it was in sprites.
@@BJGvideos why is it uncalled? i'm not even criticizing davi for it.
And yes, it was always some kind of chibi, but we never saw their faces while so and their sprites while battling were completely different, here we can see their faces in the chibi model, which could be a plus, if all the faces werent literally the same, and all the faces were always smiling nomather whats happening like totally soulless npcs
@@lucasvicente3637 well, i do find the style quite cute and, considering a first time playthrough, it's kinda expected to be immersed at that point in the game, making you don't even realize it's a game anymore
Great video, your analyses are always interesting 👍
