Thank you so much for your video! This helped me fix my 2000 Impala multifunction switch. I had to hold the lever for my high beams too...but thanks to this vid, I'm good now.
Used this video to help me fix my 2004 Impala. It was very helpful. Thanks. High beams would not stay locked when you pulled the handle. Also sometimes the blinkers would not work. So far, everything works fine with the new switch in the car. I am not gonna lie, even with this video, it was a royal pain to replace the switch. It took me about 4 hours. It's very hard to get to the connectors to unplug them. My cables only had 3 connectors, and only 2 of them were used. Don't know what the third one is for. I also had problems getting things to line back up during reassembly. The cover for the steering column was the worst. The plastic is flimsy and did not want to cooperate, but finally, I got it all back in place. Hope to never have to do this again.
I just finished installing a new multifunction switch on my 2004 Impala. I had no low beams. I could not have done without this video. Thanks for the video. The switch cost $320 at Napa, but it probably would have cost me $700 if I had it done at a shop.
Thanks a bunch. Video helped me fix 01 impala. My headlights went out all i had was high beams and that was only when holding back on the lever the whole time. I Used your video to help me replace my multifunction lever. 100% fixed. your video is 100% helpful. the only thing I had trouble with was the cover directly above the switch had a fastener with a weird top I used a 4mm small socket on it. ALL TOGETHER THIS REPAIR COST ME $100. my labor was FREE and it feels good.
Thank you ! This video was very helpfull. I have 2007 Chevy malibu , and the left blinker started going out .It would only work when held down very hard. Ordered the Mulifuntion switch online , installed in 30 minutes with the help from this video . Also didn't have to remove the .two screws was able to squeeze out and back in . Thanks again , good video !
This video helped me tremendously. I was able to remove and replace the multifunction switch in my 2005 impala. Thank you for the instructions !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
was wondering if you had to pull the steering wheel or not. in this video he was able to pull it without removing the wheel or airbag. most videos include instructions on how to do that as well. the one in the video was a 2004 and i was wondering about the 2005 in specific.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I just used your video to install a multifunction switch in my 2002 impala. No way I get it done as quickly without your help. tanks again
This video helped me on my 2002 Impala. The column covers were a bitch, brittle and old. Managed to get it all tore down and done. Im no novice just couldnt see what all was holding it. The video helped thanks.
Thanks so much for doing this video! I watched it several times and it made the difference. The only things I would comment are the tilt steering lever release... had a hard time finding that... other than that, great!
Thanks for the video... Knocked it out in about 40 minutes, in beautiful 6° weather, after searching for the right tools. Low beams work again!!! Clips are tricky to get to (laid on back upside down in driver seat, much easier to access main harness, imo) there are also a couple wire ties that need to be clipped to remove the switch completely. Very easy fix if you're into saving $100-200 and have the right tools (long, slim torx bit hand tool). Don't forget to disconnect the battery!!
This was an awesome video! Fixed mine in just under two hours and i was taking it slow. Just a reminder to folks that you can use a socket on the inverted torx screws with no problem. Also, be careful prying off the lower dash panel. I broke one clip near the fuse panel.
thank you so much for this video. i havent done this yet (my dimmer switch just fucked the bucket as im typing this) but im going to follow this vid step by step. its great to know that there are still people out there that enjoy teaching and helping instead of screwing people for money. i once knew a fella just like you....he was my grandpa.
thats great, glad i could help... yea there what you call inverted torx. its a special socket, but as you mentioned in some cases a socket will fit, glad you mentioned it.i will throw a speech bubble in the vid to cover that... You saved big time on that job as you may already know. in addition to the fact YOU DID IT MAN, good job stay tuned/subscribe thanks, will
Thanks for the diagnosis. I replaced my switch 6 months ago because it was kind of malefaction. it was an aftermarket item. Now it failed again. Low beam doesn't work.
OK a few things....I did this on an 05 impala. The hardest part was dealing with the connectors since I have some fat jimmy dean fingers. The hardest connector was the long 2 wire one up by the steering shaft. I had to look at the new one to see how it disconnects. I broke one thing and it's cause I didn't pay attention to a different vid that mentioned it. When taking the lower cover off the steering column, they are hinged together at the back. You need to push the bottom piece back to disconnect it first and then pull it forward and out. I didn't do that and broke one side of it. Hope it isn't that big of a deal since the lower piece is held up with a screw. This was DEF a lot easier and safer I think than another video I saw that showed taking the steering wheel off and dealing with the air bag. I bought my part from rock auto and with shipping it was right at $124. WHOLE lot cheaper than any dealer or parts store. Thanks for the video and helping me save a lot of time/money!!
My 2004 Chevy Impala LS has a headlight problem, I pull the light switch on the dash for low beams and the high beams come on and I can't switch them off and get the low beams. All other functions work fine. (direction blinkers/parking lights. I think after listening to you the internal contacts on the multifunction switch are not making contact to lower/high beams to work properly.
my 07 Grand Prix has a similar problem. The daytime running lights are out and the low beams are out. High beams work fine. Before they went out, whenever I used my turn signal at night, the high beams would come. But it progressed to no low beam lights or daytime running lights. I ordered a new switch. Hope this will resolve the problem. What's your opinion?
was just wondering if the steering wheel needed to be pulled for a 2005 models. most videos on multi function switch replacements, cover air bag removal and i believe next would be pulling the wheel with a puller, but i didnt finish watching.
I saw one of those vids also but you don’t have to pull it off. Just have to watch the wires closely. It took me 5 hours, overall it’s not hard just getting to some of the wires is time consuming, don’t forget to unplug the negative battery cable before you start
so would this be the same switch I replace for my brake lights? 2 brake lights don't work but the bulbs are fine also the rear flashers (hazards) don't work but the turn signals do work
thank you for this video. does the multifunction headlight switch has anything to do with taillight. i have a 05 impala recently repart main headlight swith.
I know it's hard to give advise over the internet for car repair; but my 03 impala headlights stopped working. relay ok, multifunction ok, daytime and brights run, and the automatic dimmer is sensing the day light right. The problem is the relay clicks, but no light ever comes on. Bulbs are fine, 12v is on the positive at the headlights. The relays even click but both lights never come on. I've heard that this is likely a bad BCM and expensive/dealer only. Is that true? I'm ready to jerry rig it
@ robinson can you show a video on how to fix chevy impala steering wheel control only button work is the mute pre set radio do i need new relay or new switch?
These Impalas are a nightmare. I have a 2010. Ignition switch recall, traction control malfunction recall, all three HVAC sensors failed and clicking replaced. Passengers side seatbelt sensor beeping unless you buckle the seatbelt. It registers a passenger even empty. Tire sensors have all failed. I literally can't say a time this car hasn't had a warning of some kind on the dash since 40k miles. All these failures before 100k. Nowadays you have to finance a car for at least 4yrs and some 7yrs. No way you should have all these problems before 100k. Never again. Apparently Chevy decided to use junk parts to make their repair technicians rich but your dealers and salesman are going to go broke when everyone goes Toyota and Honda.

GREAT video. I can't total the money I've saved by following helpful guys like you. Great explanation with the schematic. What was the software you were using to highlight the circuits?
About making it positive wire to my fan to get my heater blower working and I'm looking for the fuse box and the easiest way in because the old guy that sold me the car a little bit ago said he took the fuse out but he's an old guy you know how that goes
Will this video also help with the problem I have? My lights come on, but my passenger light comes on but not coming in all the way. It's seem like it's warming up but not lighting up like it should.
It sounds like there might be an issue with the low beam circuit. Have you checked the fuses and bulbs? sounds crazy i know but iv seen both low beams blown in the past
Great explanation...maybe next time you can get someone else to video, so they can zoom in on specific parts, while you are providing the explanation. On occasion, your body was in the way, and we just had to listen to your explanation, so a helper might be helpful to you, and your viewers. Elsewhere, we have a 2004 Impala, 3.4L, and on occasion, all the lights will go out. Eventually, the lights come back on, but this could be very dangerous at night. Any suggestions?
I have an 2003 that has no low beams, blinkers come on but don't blink, high beams only come on when you hold the lever in the on position. I have changed bulbs & fuses. The guy at the tire shop said it is probably the mutli-function switch...does anyone else concur? Is there a big difference between 2003 & 2004 model year for changing it?
Fran Sabin I have a 2004 SS and I'm having the same exact problem as you. try looking under the dash, near the steering column there should be a plug with a lot of wires on it. Try pushing it together and pulling it apart over and over again. Mine has a bad connection and this is how I get my headlights to turn on.
where can I get a dimmer switch that isn't so expensive? I have a 2004 impala and the high beams stay on all the time so I can't get my inspection or tags and there out? any suggestions
My 04 impala has no high beams and turn signals only half the time... I just put a brand new multifunction switch like this one and it's still doing the same exact thing? What the heck is wrong with this thing?
My 2003 Impala did the same thing. It started out with the lights going out completely while I was driving. Then I was more careful about making sure it clicked in place when I switched to high beams. That worked for awhile until it broke and I had to hold the stick back for high beams and try to drive at the same time. Then finally the high beams went out completely. My regular mechanic doesn't know how to remove the signal stick thingy and I've read that it will cost anywhere from $400-$600 to have the dealer fix it! That is bull crap. This seems to be a common problem. Chevrolet should have recalled it and replaced it for free especially how dangerous it is when our lights go out while driving. They are just lucky nobody has died from this defect! I will not purchase another Chevy vehicle again!
my headlights come on by them self when the car sits in the yard and sometimes they wont turn off when u turn the key off does anybody know what is doing this ive had to keep unhooking the battery everytime im done with the car
wish i could find an image however i cant, if i remember correctly its just a small piece you move slightly and wiggle the lever out. should be a small tab near the lever where it slides in. hope this helps, i have a free to join forum. at my website toolsandtime. com its easier to answer question on the forum. and there is some good techs that help me at times with the questions... feel free to stop in and check it out in addition we are not limited as far as posting images etc,

Your diagnosis is nicely explained. Thanks for including the wiring diagram. That is always helpful.

I must say awesome way to put it in story mode and your very calm when your talking awesome job man.
beautiful, comprehensive training video. Demonstration of how a real professional does the job. Many thanks.

@winey11 thank you for the complement, glad to hear you got it fixed.

Sorry for the delay. No, I did not have to pull the steering wheel. It was just like in this video with my 2005 model.
Very informative and worked perfectly. Replaced it in about 50 minutes. Thanks for all you do Will!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I just used your video to install a multifunction switch in my 2002 impala. No way I get it done as quickly without your help. tanks again

What was the problem with yours? Did you have high beam and not low? That's the problem I got
shotimeplayer indeed, high beams would work, lows would only work if I could "wiggle" the switch just right.
GREAT VIDEO!! THANKS ALOT!! I just fixed my 2005 impala. Had to hold the lever for high beams.

Yep you’re right, I had to use a 4mm socket for the inverted ones and T25 wrench for the regular ones
Hey man thanks for the video. I'm about to try it. Looks simple enough after watching your video.
Awesome! Thanks for the Video. I hear this is a common problem with the 04 Chevy Impala.
worked for me! nice to see that it can be done without taking the steering wheel off. took about 2 hours and the switch only cost me $50 on ebay.
thank you so much for this video. i havent done this yet (my dimmer switch just fucked the bucket as im typing this) but im going to follow this vid step by step. its great to know that there are still people out there that enjoy teaching and helping instead of screwing people for money. i once knew a fella just like you....he was my grandpa.

Just what I needed to see, thank you
That's awesome, Chiltons tells me to disable SIR, then remove the airbag then steering wheel.. Thank you!
Is this the same procedure as on a 2003 chevy impala? Thanks.
Thanks sooo
much for this video it was a lifesaver!! I have lights again! lol
Yeah you forgot sizes for your inverted torque screws. That would be really helpful

@ robinson can you show a video on how to fix chevy impala steering wheel control only button work is the mute pre set radio do i need new relay or new switch?
how do you turn off the daytime running lights??
What tool and size do you need to take out the inverted torx screw that hold the top steering wheel cover?
Useful video. The other video is also useful. Cheaper than taking it somewhere to fix it.
mine does this as well you have to hold it now to keep it on, where do you buy the switch ?
Does the replacement part have to be specific? I have a chevrolet epica part to replace it, but it has both switches (The left and right) on it
what size is the torque bolts holding the switch to steering column
You will need a T25 for the torque screws and a 4mm socket for the inverted screws that holds the top column cover
poor camera angle, should have been zoomed in better to see the details of what you were doing...
Thanks did my 2000 right turn signal in front wasn't working nor would it flash on dash.

And the tilt steering knob will come off if you pull straight out. I pryed mine with a large flathead screwdriver and it came right off.

Thanks
Nice 👍👍
My 2012 impala daytime lamps and low beams quite working so I replaced this switch.. Still not working.

It almost looks like that the same switch can cause the low beams to do the same thing.
Would be easier if you showed where the clip was
.....Should be called the MULTIMALFUNCTION switch !!
It's would be easier to see when you're not in the way
t25
anybody ever seen an impala the headlights wont shut off in
Can't. Watch any videos. Why ? Fix the problem.
Can't really hear him
