    To be honest I think that the $40 Mic that Austin used in that budget set up was as good as the high end one, and really the lighting was fine, but that cam could have been swapped for like a Logitech pro 920 and it would have made a world of difference. I mean that would have pushed the budget to like 150 instead of 100, but it would have been just as serviceable as the 3000 dollar setup

    • @kimern68
      @kimern68 Місяць тому +1

      Or he could go find an Elgato Facecam Mk.1 used instead of the 920 pro, dial that camera in right and it is night and day compared to the Logitech one. Logitech 920/922 are really hard to dial in when it comes to white balance. Elgato also have the CamHub that is actually a pretty decent control software for the camera too. And also talking about using a phone as a camera, as long as you have an iPhone, Elgato have EPOCCAM that lets you control the iPhone camera with CamHub.

      Yeah $40-$60 usb mics like the stuff from Maono or Fifine usually end up sounding as good or better than $200+ mics in direct A to B comparisons.
      Lighting is where the biggest difference usually lies when putting together a streaming/recording setup because even a really good camera can look bad if you're lit poorly

    I think it's a perfect illustration as to why going cheap isn't a good idea when you can go REAL cheap. Sure, the iPhone 15 Pro is overkill, but realistically, any smartphone made in the last 10 years will give you a better picture than a cheap webcam and it's really easy to use one in OBS. You can get lights, but really, if you're in a decently lit room, just use the normal lights, even better if you have a window close, natural lights will look better than cheap ring lights if you don't know how to use them. A dedicated microphone is nice, but you can use the one on your old pair of ear buds, it won't sound bad, they were made to make your voice clear, and if we're talking about USB and 3.5mm microphone, there isn't much difference between a decent $20 one and the $60 one made by HyperX, Razer, Blue, etc. It just doesn't make sense to spend money if you're going with the cheapest option, it's better to use what you already have and if everything is going right, buy at least a mid-range setup later.

      I'm assuming you've never met someone as cheap as I am. My smartphone is 2 years old and it's worse than that webcam (it was the cheapest one I could get). I've never had earbuds.

    Cheap webcam - pro move: Go to a charity shop like Goodwill or something like that. Go to their camera section. Find all the digital cameras they have and open google. Start googling each camera and check if they are supported by Win10. If they are check the quality of the cam (depending on how "hardcore" you want to be - you can just do a search to see if anyone has made a video on YT of it - OR bring a laptop - hook it up - and test it out. Be sure to bring a variety of cables.)
    You might need to go to a few stores to find a really good one - and if you hit the jackpot you might find something like an old dirty Sony Alpha A200K for very little money. (Just an example of literal thousands of options) It might only be 1080p - but high quality optics and a good quality sensor MATTERS MORE than pixel density! Like it is not even close! What does it matter if you have 8K and 100 Mpixels if the image is distorted and blurry? 😀

    It's pretty cool to see that it's technically possible to get set up for UA-cam for about $100, I think the caveat is that if you're running a budget setup, obviously the production quality is going to be a lower than with the pro rigging, so your content will have to be really compelling and interesting. I'm also wondering if the expectations are different for different generations, I actually don't know. But I'd think that if UA-cam was always around in your lifetime, you may have higher expectations for quality. I remember when UA-cam was a dating site, so I'm more focused on the content. I follow a lot of people who are doing videos outside, so my bar is pretty low on technical quality, but high on the quality of the content. I've heard advice on both ends -- that you can get away with low technical quality FOR A LITTLE WHILE as long as you get the content right, and I've also heard that your technical quality has to be pretty good. I only really care about the technical quality if it's so bad that it's distracting from the content. Something to think about when I start ramping up my own channel. Good piece!

  • @Craider79
    @Craider79 Місяць тому +2

    You can build a defuser - lights included - for around $30-40 - it's REALLY not that hard. You can use an old camera found at Goodwill for $50. You can use a MUCH cheaper capture card at 1080p for like $40 - AND there are TONS of REALLY GOOD $100 options for for mics - and you can find used audio equipment if you want to be more advanced in TONS of places for next to no money - like Goodwill or yard sales and stuff like that. Really give me a $300 budget - and I can bring you 80-90% of the way to that 3K setup.

Would another 100-150 helped a lot? yes... absolutely. But for a new streamer you can't just pull your creditcard and throw yourself in debt, so you start from the ground up... and that's where you land in the 100-250 range.

    Would also be fun if it's the other way around to see Gerald's creativeness with a tight budget

    TBH for $100 that's a great way to at least get going. The webcam is cheap enough it's not a huge loss when you can upgrade later one. When you use the camera for a layover on twitch it will be smaller so it won't be as bad, but at least you have a great starting point

    I started making a streaming/recording setup with a Samson Q2U mic, Nexigo webcam, lights I already have. Audio is great, video is eh, my anxiety is over 9,000.

    Should have just used a budget phone for the cheap one. If you can afford a pc you most likely have a phone that has a better camera.
