- Tourette’s and persistent tic disorders can be interesting in how they develop. They generally seem to hit their peak in early adolescence and reduce in early adulthood. However, this is not always the case and even when it does happen, the individual may develop new tics during the lifetime. In this video I talk about a new tic that I recently developed. It’s not particularly strong, may not even be obvious to others, and I’m fortunate that it doesn’t interfere too much. It took me about a month and a half to recognize it for what it is (tics can often seem like just normal movements and the brain is really good at explaining things). I also talk a bit about how tics can interfere with things indirectly, such as how it affects us during conversations because part of our mind is likely to be aware of it and begin to think about how others may react (“Did they notice my tic? Do they think I’m weird?” And so on…).
