      More power to you !!
I am now in my 65th year.
Been singing with live bands before live audiences, since I was a kindergartner.
Singing in India, exposes a singer to competition in every possible genre.
We also have some of the world’s biggest audiences.
      WHY?
India occupies 1,269,219 sq. miles: 2¼ percent of planet earth’s land mass.
It has 16% of planet earth’s humans -- a democracy of 1,404,791,500 people speaking 22 different languages.
Indian Classical music has two main sub-genres: Hindustani Classical and Carnatic Classical.
Both evolved from the 1100 BCE Saamved -- 1,875 verses of public worship (liturgy).

Wow- you are so inspirational, Mark! I’m 76 years “young” and have been singing at church for 38 years. I didn’t know I could sing until then. I sang solo at weddings and funerals until 8 years ago, when I knew my vocal chords were no longer solo quality. My love of singing, constant practicing and lots of encouragement from others keeps me singing. I do vocal exercises with you every morning and am so grateful for you. And I still sing every weekend with the support and love of a small group. You sound fabulous, Mark, and inspire us all to keep singing!

Thanks so much Mark, it was really interesting to hear about your career, you certainly have had a successful one. I’ve been singing since I was about 5 years old, I am now 71, 11 years ago I had a spinal stroke, which has left me partially paralysed and as a result my voice has been affected too. I’ve only just recently started to sing again and am having lessons to try and remedy my crackly, hoarse voice, sometimes I get down about it but I’m determined I will sing again. I’m really enjoying your videos so thank you.

Wow Mark Happy Birthday this an amazing career. Inspires, sure, a lot! I am getting closer to singing coordination right. I am not in the sound I would like on all notes but start having it on some, so getting closer. Also trying to recall piano and music theory I learned as a child and didn't pay attention to. It's amazing what you can learn. You sound like you can do anything in your 65 and never give an old man impression, with your crisma and always going forwards.

That is a tough thing, to assess one's own performance and skills like this!
I was classically trained to sing, from age 14. Now that I am "pushing 60," certain notes in my range are very unreliable and "warbly."
I'm so glad to have found your vocalises! So far, so good with reclaiming my solo voice!

In combination with one-of-one singing lessons, I hope to be able to one day:-) Thank you for your excellent videos and your inspiration!

I've been using your warm-up video, which is my favorite. Just discovered this video today! Very belated happy birthday! It never occurred to me that our voices deteriorate as we age into our senior years. I think my voice is richer and more resonate now than when I was younger. Why do we lose collagen in our vocal chords?

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  Рік тому +2

For the same reason we lose collagen in our hair and skin as we age. The body dries out over time.

Before Covid, I was singing solo at one or two vinyards each weekend for 3 hours apiece and was the music director at a church, in addition to my music therapy sessions. During Covid it all stopped for a couple of years. Now, I'm 73 and getting back into practicing music therapy, but ive lost vocal range and timbre. I'm, frankly, a little afraid to start booking vinyards again. Your "Wake up Voice" video is an essential part of my AM routine when i have 10AM therapy. I'm looking for the best way to rehab my voice. I wish I'd known how important is to KEEP SINGING. Any suggestions? Ill go to your website later to give contact info.

Happy Birthday Mark! Tuesday was my little Min-Pin Molly’s fifth Birthday!
This was a fantastic video for many reasons… it was inspiring to see and hear your growth and it confirmed so many of the similar changes I, too, am experiencing with my singing.
I still remember absolutely blowing out my untrained voice at the tender age of 19 while on spring break in Cancun and coming home unable to speak, let alone sing. Jamie Rubin gave me your number, I came to see you on Charles St. and you reassured me that I had not done irreparable damage to my voice. Rather, I just needed to decide whether I wanted to be a guy who could sing a little or be a singer. I chose the latter and thus began our 4 year journey as student and teacher. What I learned from you has sustained me as a singer every time I open my mouth to sing ever since. Now, as I find myself in my mid-fifties, I feel the differences you described in this video. My voice is not quite as elastic as it was 20 years ago so I’ve been forced to dig into my “singer’s bag of tricks” that you give me and make those all important adjustments. Now I sing at lower volume when possible with less air pressure and walk that fine line between control, intent and passion. The result is that I’m still singing for my supper and loving it. I’m still a student of singing and am counting on being able to perform at a high level for at least another 15 years before the next set of major adjustments.
I’m honored to call you my teacher and, more importantly, my friend!
    Many happy returns Mark!
    Much love, Darin

Happy birthday, Mark! Now i'm 35 and i sing in a church for about 8 years. I'm sorry because i did not went to a music college to learn to sing. My father was a great singer (some folk country singer in my country. Romania) now he s 79. He din not want to let us learn to sing because he said singers are like prostitute for some people who do not respect them. Like: "don t sing what you want but what i ask you to sing." All the time i was trying to sing but i didn t know how to master my voice. And don t know what to sing. A few days before i made a test and find out that i m a barritone. Now i vocalize for that. I started to vocalize since 2007 with you tube but not knowing my rang and if i hit the note made vocalize difficult for me. I find you 2 years ago and liked the videos with the clock. I liked many of your videos. Now i'm trying not to make faces and rise the eyebrows. And having an aplication that show me what note i sing make everything easier for me. I wish i knew some of the things and had some of the aplications on devices 10 years ago. But better later than never. Thank you for all you materials. I like you very much so i feel a little sad that you are 65 in a month 66. Time is passing by and in a way this is sad. Today we are, tomorrow not any more. So let us sing and enjoy every moment of our lives. Happy birthday again and thanks for everything you do and you did for us. With every lesson that you teach us you become part of us. Thank you!

65 is NOT old! I have been singing now six days a week, six hours a day busking - in acapella - on the streets of Madrid, Malaga, and now Gibraltar. I have been singing for two years. I had some voice lessons and they were priceless. I still have a LONG way to go. I don´t know when I will be ready to transition from busking to club singing to earn more money ...

    • @voicelessondotcom

You're ready now! Clubs only care about their cash registers. So start asking around and bring your passion indoors. Once people hear you they'll stay and have another pint.

A question, I started singing /vocalizing about 5 years ago, prior to that i never sang, not even in the shower etc. Do you think its possible i may have been spared some of the age related collagen changes as i never ever pushed my voice/belt etc until 52? or does it come any way no matter how we treated our vocal cords throughout our life?

Losing collagen is just a part of the aging process. Your advantage is that you don't have an old program to wrestle with. It's amazing when I sang that old song how quickly all my bad behaviors flooded back in!

You are the best example to never let go of what you love. I belive that if we are doing something from our hearts it will eventually start to pay off. Also important thing is to love the process of singing. Even if this passion won't transform into big career we singers have this magic thing to share our emotion and love. Happy birthday to you Mr. Baxter! Thanks for all these years of sharing the same passion and learning me things and open my eyes for many aspects of singing since 2014 when I found your channel ✌️

First of all: Happy bithday, Mark. Stay happy and healthy🍀
    Great video!!!
One question. Did you take singing lessons with a real vocal coach?
There are some singers who have performed for many years but eventually have damaged their voice because of bad singing technique. We have to use our voice in a healthy way, right? How do we know if we do it correctly and what /how to change sth without a teacher?
    I appreciate your answer 🤩

Yes - I worked with a few professional coaches. But many contemporary singers sing well without any training. You know you need help when your voice isn't producing the sounds you want - or is hoarse or painful.

Happy birthday, you sound fantastic! I don't want to sing but I just can't stop, it's too much fun, and all the breaks in my voice turn into trills and wobbles and sound so cute, so there's really no reason to stop, ever~

I've been singing for ~12 years, but it turns out the whole time I've been fighting undiagnosed Muscle Tension Dysphonia which is why I always plateaued at a certain point. Now that I have my diagnosis, I'm having to relearn to sing correctly which is NOT easy after all that incorrect muscle memory. This video was great inspiration to never give up Mark thanks!

    Happy Burthday Mark!!! 🎂 🎉
Thank you for inspiring us all and your brilliant voice lessons. I am 60 years myself and don`t give up, thanks to people like you.
I bought one of your courses and just one of the vocal exercises made me belt i 3 days. Amazing!!!
I have to say that I`ve taken private and online vocal lessons my whole life, but nothing really helped me THAT FAST!
    Thank you!
    My respects to you
    Ilian
    Cheers!
