    i have one tip. STOP GIVING A FUCK TO WHAT PEOPLE THINK. JUST focus on feeling the song. Singing is about feeling the song and making others feel the same way.

    this changed everything for me. i have not even been able to work through vocal exercises, because i hate the sound of my own voice so much. singing was so fun for me before i decided i really wanted to be good at it. but now i do the gibberish exercise, and HOLY SHIT!! its everything i needed. im not a better singer yet, im not even good at gibberish- but at least i can spend time with my own voice now. i dont know what i would have done with out this-thank you.

    I've used this technique once or twice in concert... when I forgot a few of the lyrics! Anyway.. as always, Mr. Baxter, you share very valuable insights for great singing, and you're one of the best voice teachers I've encountered (and I live in Music City!). I've been using one of your books and the CD for a long time and because of you, I've been able to have a music career for the last 14 years. Deepest thanks...

    Long before I found this video, I was terrified to let anybody hear my singing voice even after I was in course in high school. One of the things I started doing was humming really low the easy parts of songs as I was walking down the street, and then walking down the aisles of grocery stores. I'm still terrified of people listening to my live voice, but I was still singing to Billie Eilish's "When The Party's Over" in the grocery store yesterday.... it has taken me 5 years to get to this point by myself, if I would have found this video, it wouldn't have taken me nearly the five years just to get to this point. Hell if I would have found all your videos when you started uploading them, I might have a side gig singing right now. I have been watching video after video and doing exercise after exercise, and it wasn't until I started finding your videos (about a week ago) that I truly started seeing a quick Improvement. I'm still struggling to stay on key as I'm singing, but I'm sure one of your video will pop up on my feed soon enough to help me. Lol
    So to sum up everything I just said, you're not just a lifesaver, you're a life-changer, and I for one thank you immensely for that.

    YES YES YES, my favorite of your videos so far. Love the data about the brain. Love the gibberish examples too. I figured out years ago how to use gibberish to break semantic 'scripts' when ever I'd get upset or riled up about things. Switching to silly does wonders. I feel silly for understanding this for speech but not really applying it to relaxing nerves when singing. I've certainly giber-sang plenty of times before out of sillyness or for a laugh. I often replace words in songs to make them silly, very often the word mayonnaise is involved.

    I just ran across your teaching earlier to day.
    I was amazed how much just a few warm up help my voice . Now this lesson is so funny because I actually already do this, with songs either I don't remember because I cant hear all the words or it just seems depressing so I add my words. I never ever share that with anyone. I was wondering if I should stop that at one time because I love just going off on my own. Well I thinking it was a bad habit. But I enjoy it , now I'll do it even more....thank you ...

    I'm working on releasing my voice for speech, and I now start to understand that my problem tends to be inhibition due to perhaps fear or insecurity about my voice (I squeeze my cords, raise larynx, and tend to hold my breath when this occurs). So I tried this and this is realy interesting - when I speak in gibberish, everything seems to start and continue cleanly and smoothly and without any inhibition in my voice, exactly like you say. But as soon as I try to go back to normal speech, sometimes it's clean and smooth and sometimes it still feels stuck and strained. Should I just continue practicing talking gibberish and it will eventually fix itself, or there's something else I can try?

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  7 років тому +4

      It's going to take time for you to trust a new way of feeling when speaking. Your old program is not triggered by gibberish so it clearly demonstrates there's a great potential for you to speak with comfort and ease if you're willing to put in the time. Continue speaking in gibberish - and then normally - and then gibberish - etc. It's no different than learning a new language. The more you do it the more natural it feels.
