Will This Old Chevy Truck Pull My Classic Buick 650 Miles Home? (P3)

- Part 3 of 3: When I finally throw the towel in on the 1956 Buick Special, I'm still 650 miles from home. So I did the right thing and bought a 1987 chevy k1500 (4x4) sight unseen to pull it the rest of the way home. Will this new to me old clapped out truck make it, or will I end up with two vehicles broken down? Watch and find out!

You got me with a little tear when you said “it’s back home dad” god bless you man!
Me too brother.
Dusty in here
I love the open road footage makes me wants to travel..
me also had a tear ... your one hell of a man sir
Danged allergies got a guys eyes waterin’.
You got me at "It's back home Dad."
Yep. There was definitely something in a guy's eye at that point.
lump in the throat moment ;)
Ditto. Got me all sentimental there
Wow right in the feels
Who’s cuttin onions!?
Derek: tell me if you wanna see this...
Everybody: yes
Not yes but HELL yeah
Man I've just finished a 15hour shift on a construction site in England. I'm away from my woman and children and sleeping in my camper. It's snowed for almost 24 hours straight. I'm worn out and tired and the end of this video just made me cry like a baby. Family is genuinely everything!! especially to a working man. I love you Derek. Your videos are a real treat for me after a long day when I'm not going home to the family. Thank you brother.
Some people have no family, no friends, nobody. It's a miserable existence.
Bro right family is always first bro your your kids hero keep going bro God bless brother
Im always curious, who actually dislikes these videos? Like its just a man driving cross country lol what is there to dislike? People are strange
I think I figured it out.
Some people actually use the button for what I think might be its intended purpose, which would be to adjust their recommendations. Perhaps they watched the video and said "Its not bad but its not what I'm looking for" and hit the dislike button.
That is about the only rationale I can think of beside people just being entirely too miserable.
@@moparmarkstpac I can get behind that
@@FonicsSuck I never considered that actually, I think you may be right
yeah
I have inadvertently hit the wrong thumb before. Wouldn't have noticed it had I not been writing a comment and glanced at the symbol again.
I think a guy got something in his eyes at the end there.
Yepp, something happend . .
Me too, that’s good stuff there
That's what it's all about right there
I got something in my eye as well. Mine growing up is a very similar story as my Dad had a 57 Buick Super. Definitely want to see more of this Buick!
Ohh yes... water coming out of places on my face im not used to for sure.
"Cars back home dad" message was a real tear jerker. Happy for you
Someone’s cutting onions in here, I swear… 😭
And i thought i loved your TV show. These are even better! Loved your note to dad at the end!
dude.... the "it's back home dad" at the end... that musta been hard to even add to that cus it wasn't even easy to read without a tear comin to my eye
That part got me too
❤
Man I already respected you before this video, that ending just nailed it man. I know you shed a tear editing this ending for us. Thank you for a truly epic series, and letting us in on a personal part of your life. Excellent video series!!
Heck, *I* shed tear at the end, with the photo montage.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Derek
Couldn’t have said it better 👍
Derek, please share all you can on the Buick. She's Special. Yep...
This was really a series straight from the heart.
Didotto
"It's back home, Dad". Gotta stop chopping onions while I watch this. Dang it.
I don't know, I think musta been some onions around me as well or some weird eye lid precipitation hit a guy.
Same
No doubt man, made a guy do the same thing on the ole eye lid precipitation as well. Hit a guy hard.
Not gonna lie, you got my peepers sweating at the end. Your father would be very proud knowing he raised such a class act.
That is the truth about a son who loved and loves his dad.
@@robertmitchell5018 Yes it is, well said.
I love this channel and almost all the videos. I believe Derek is the type of guy that if someone was broken down on the road he would do everything in his power to help get things going and for that...I love this guy ! Good people deserve whatever good comes their way. Onward to greatness VGG
Not only that, but Derek's the kind of guy who, if he broke down in front of your house, you'd let him in, give him lunch, and then help him get his car fixed...Maybe even put him up for the night...
That ending really brings a tear to a guys eye, a car can really mean a lot to you when its been around for so long and has so many memories
I lost my dad in the same year as you did yours, he was 53..
Keep up informed on the 55!
"It's back home, Dad!" Sumbitch! that one blindsided me! I lost my Dad in February this year and that kinda got a reaction out of a guy. Glad you're able to pay tribute to your Dad in such a meaningful way!

Me too wow that hit the old heart strings or not lol yep Loved the ride, I'm disabled so it was a treat for me to see our land outside thank you very much
I got misty eyed too..
Yeah something around here is burnin' old gas too.
I’m only 3 years late watching this. But as a mechanic from 1974 and on, every good mechanic loves to watch other mechanics work. It’s that simple.
Dang, dude. A guy can get some serious Dad-related emotions watching this. I'm leakin' eye coolant now. Gonna do the right thing and call the old man while I still can.
Do it, Dave. Like Derek, I gotta call long distance now. 2008 for me. Wish I had his '55 Apache back
Call and talk every chance you can... lost my dad in 1990 when I was 20... still trying to find that 79 sq body we went hunting and fishing in....
Call dad daily. Mom too if ya can. I’m 64. I can call but it just doesn’t get answered these days. You never know when that phone just won’t get answered.
@@PoppiB So true Dick, mine don't answer anymore either. Merry Christmas.
Oh yeah the Max Headroom edit "laugh" was great!
Yeah epic thought lsd was coming back to haunt me,from my stupid yrs!!
Made himself sound like Jack Nicholson's version of the Joker
This was by far the most meaningful trip to take us on. I really enjoyed this. A great tribute to your dad. Peace
I know I am late to the party by 2 years. Your ending dedication to your dad brought tears to my eyes.
The ending was just almost enough to make a grown man cry! Felt my eyes start to flood a tiny bit! Great video!
Me too!
Man, oh man, could you ever have imagined how many us "grown men" you were gonna make all teary eyed with that excellent tribute to your Dad? This Buick mini series, for me, has been the best 3 videos you've done. You still made me belly laugh and then swung me all the way to the other end of the spectrum with wet eyes. So happy for you, to have your Dad's Buick back home...
Your channel is just plain great.
My 12 year old son and I love watching. 🤘
My dad just passed away on December 9th. I was fortunate to have him for 51 years, never take life for granted. Cherish your parents and tell them that you love them, you can never say it enough. Dad, I will get the Biscayne back to her former glory!
Sorry for you loss Billy. I lost my dad in May and it still hurts.
Heck, I lost my Dad in 1997. Still hurts!
I tip my hat to you, Derek. Not everyone gets to bring something that means so much to their family home as a tribute to their dad, but you did and shared the whole thing with us. That photo montage at the end was really special, and I join many others in saying thanks for sharing with us
That ending hit me in the feels like a torpedo. I lost my dad in 2004 and I feel you Derek. Next year I will be your dads age.
Darn right I want to see more of the Buick. She's a beauty!
You said it right. Those round shapes and curves together with the finned tail lights really does something to the eye! Pity they don't make 'em like this anymore!
A guy's eyes started leaking at the end there buddy. Glad you made it safe and got your dad's car back where it belongs.
Well the photos at the end made me cry. Now get some pics of you and your son sanding on the rust spots so he will have something to show his kids. So glad she's back home with her real family!
“It’s back home dad” made a guys eyes sweat horse power
Some things are more important than we think... we when it happens to the other guy.
I live in Joplin. You drove by my house. That’s the most famous I’ll ever be.
Me too. I was kinda hoping I would have seen him driving around
He should let us know when he's on a trip like this. I bet more than a few of us would be willing to help if he needed something.
You lucky dog. I'm in Springfield. damn
I kept stoping the video to try and catch a sign to see where he was the only one I caught was Joplin Kansas city sign .
Much better source of fame than the devistation of those tornadoes you have in your part of the country. We're expecting 2 feet of snow by afternoon tomorrow in my part. Just an inconvenience compared to a twister.
If you keep uploading in the middle of the day A guy’s going to get fired from his job.
work from home ftw
Work for yourself. You have nobody to answer to.
I’m actually retiring dec 31st. I spend about as much as I make paying people to do things I’m perfectly capable of doing but don’t have the time! Can’t get fired on my home stretch!
@@dylanjohnson2431 a guy can wind up in the dog house though!.
You still working? I got laid off a month ago.
At the end I was like I’m not gonna cry, I’m not gonna cry. When you said “it’s back home dad” I started to cry
I loved the tribute to your Father at the end ! Cars do make good memories.
Yes Derek, we want to see everything. I haven't watched a VGG i didn't enjoy. Thank you for the effort you put into each and every video. God bless.
I second that! Have enjoyed all his videos.
Derek has to be the most down to earth Guy ever so happy and glad he has his Dad's car back I have My grandfather's old Chevy truck and wouldn't take anything for it problems or not it means the world to me
As I'm watching the end.
Wife "whats wrong with your eyes?" "Nothing love, this Derek fellas just real funny, honest"
The montage of photos at the end could bring a tear to a guy's eye
Loved it, hope to see you fix the gremlins on the Buick and show it off
Cold snacks , chair, sitting next to the old car in the man cave watching a fella do rite by his dad's ol rig... I'm glad to have VGG . 👍
Derek you and your personality crack me up, and at 75 I know funny! Love your dry humor ! Your the kind of guy you meet a few times in a life time and it seems like we have known each other for the last 20, 30 years ! These videos on the 56 Buick reminds me of a Two tone 56 Buick special that I inherited from my Uncle Tom! Loved that car! It was indestructible, and just kept running! It was actually my mothers car , but she did not drive! So it fell to me to keep it up and drive! I was on the way to the parts store to get a battery for my 67 Pontiac Firebird stoped at a red light to turn left adjacent to a chevron station in town , as I came to a stop ,unbeknownst to me there was a bad leak in the fuel line at the fuel pump! The engine compartment blew up! Sounded like a really big Mortar going off! Black smoke started billowing out of the fender wells and hood seems! I popped the hood , black smoke and orange red flames billowed and blew me backwards! I was frantic! I ran over to the chevron station yelling for help! The one attendant / mechanic was in the bathroom, came out I pointed to the car at the intersection on fire! Said can I barrow a fire extinguisher? He said sure! Grabbed one off the wall and threw it to me, ran out to the car and put the fire out, it was a dry chemical extinguisher and made a mess of everything! But put the fire out . Then turned the motor off as I had forgotten to turn it off in the excitement! Hence the continued fire! I walked back to the gas station gave back the extinguisher 🧯 said thank you ! I walked back to the Buick looked at the smoldering mess of burned parts and charred wiring , wondering what I was going to do? Turned the key on stepped on the starter , it started I jumped out closed the hood and drove home and parked it ! Till I could fix the charred wires and fuel pump leak! When I thought about it and how it must have looked from a bi standers outlook , especially the gas station attendant I laughed my ass of and still do every time I remember that incident! Most cars would have burned to the ground! Especially since I forgot to turn it off after it exploded into flame 🔥? That car kept running right up to when we sold it to a guy that wanted to restore it and made a little extra money for my Mom! Indestructible! LOL like I say reminds me of your show! That was after coming back from the Vietnam war! As I am Marine veteran! I went into the Automobile restoration business! I retired in 2015, I really miss the business! But I live vicariously through shows like yours on Motor Trend! And working on my 1949 Plymouth business coupe, which has a 318 small block Mopar in it! I watch Uncle Tony’s garage too , and David Vizar also as I need to rebuild the motor in the process! Keep up the good work really enjoy your videos!!! Regards Mad Mike S.
Great stuff Derek! Ain’t gonna lie, the dedication at the end almost had me tearing up thinking of my dad. He’s been gone a little over a year & I miss him terribly.
The pictures at the end were really heartwarming. Thanks for sharing, Derek.
Emotional and deeply personal series. Thank you for letting us come along for the journey
Enjoy all of your videos but this one really hit home for me. My dad passed in 2004 also. I have his first car, a 1938 Plymouth. I am finally in a place to start restoring it. It's hard to do with a family but I do what I can when I can. Feels like he's there with me when I work on the ol' girl, probably laughing at me as I fumble around. So happy that you found your dad's car and you brought her back home where she belongs. This was truly touching, thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I had feelings like that from my late father when I worked on cars too........... I hope the resto is going well, do what you can, when you can. You know who will be looking over your shoulder watching you work lol...... cheers.
Last bit got me. I lost my Dad in 2002 to cancer. I still have my First Car, a 70 Mustang Convertible. I remember driving it home that first time following Dad, rebuilding it for my 16th birthday, and years later driving it to the cemetery behind the hearse. Your Dad's car, and our Father/son car are where they should be... with the sons.
Sorry to hear bout that hope your doing great
Sorry for your loss. I suppose I lost my father in a different way. I grew up in his 72 Continental, tripple brown. Not the most saught after, but I eventually got one just as close to the original as possible (only options are better but colors are the same). So I just remember the good ole days...
Lost my Dad a few months ago… he wasn’t big into cars but he drove 500 kms with me to help me buy my project car that I haven’t finished yet (12 years later ) but will be finishing it as a memorial type thing to remember him by.
@@krashdown102 Sorry for your loss. Im sure he cherished those moments with you and that car, and will be proud of you once its all done.
I’ll be honest with you, I think it wants to be yellow again someday. Keep the series going no matter what!
Hey man ! I wasn’t expecting that ending!..made my eyes rain a tad bit. I love my kids and to see that makes a guys heart melt. RIP Bunky
Such an awesome vid bud a guy really had a fine time watching it!! And that ole Bowtie never let you down on getting Dads car back! And them damn onions kicked in at the end!! 🍺🍺🍺🍺 cold snacks for all and Merry Christmas! To you bud!
I’m not crying… you’re crying!
My dad was a Vette guy, who owned 5 in his life. My love and respect for cars and wrenching came from him. So, thank you Derek, for remembering what really matters.
"Its back home dad"
Man that dedication at the end really hit me right in the feels. Lost my dad in 2018 and this just gut punched me in all the spots.

Derek you have have about the best automotive content on UA-cam IMO. Your sense of humor, wit, knowledge and skills are second to none.
Nothing like family heirlooms and so happy for you that you were able to get this back. Sorry to see that your Pop’s passed way too early. I’m sure he would be mighty proud. The way you include your boys in most everything you do is what being a car lover is all about.

Yep, A guy definitely got somethin' in his eye on that ending.

I tried to watch the ending, I made it 5 seconds before those old emotions and memories of my own dad got to me. Great series.
I really loved this journey you shared, especially the end of your video when you shared the pictures of the ol" Buick with your dad and your family. I lost my dad back in 2017 and still miss him very much. I learned to never take for granted the time you have with those you love. Thanks Derek!

The paint is nice, and it's really straight. And only slightly cancerous.
That was a great show. Love how you don't give up. When the ol Buick started limping you just up the anti and buy a tow rig!
Love the buick 3 parter and would love see more on fixing the issues and how torque tube is repaired.
Dang it, a guy must've been cuttin' some onions on the end of this one... Happy for you, Derek!
So glad you did that in memory of your dad.My father died at 66 and my son only had five years to enjoy him.
