33:25 who else was waiting for Dolly to belt out 🎼tumble outta bed and stumble to the kitchen pour myself a cup of ambition and yawn and stretch and try to come alive🎼
After 4 months of binge watching Roadworthy Rescues and Vice Grip Garage, Derek has inspired me to build myself a 24' x 30' garage and purchase a Wildfire 9000 lift for me and my buddies to start tinkering on cars again.
I started out to build a 24X30, but I decided there’s too much wasted material in a 30 footer, so decided to go with 40 foot(and glad I did, it’s an extra 240 sq foot) I poured a slab, built all my uprights out of steel “Z” girders (8 total) tall angle iron around the bottom screwed to the slab giving me something to screw my siding to at the bottom, then put Zs halfway up, and at the top of each wall. I also used Zs to build my two end trusses, and went with some 8 inch I-beams to build my center truss (I went with a 4 on 12 pitch, but doesn’t need to be that steep, and hard to stand on while working), and then I used Zs again (20 footers) to run from truss to truss across the roof. (All my frame skeleton came from the local scrap metal yard) And I purchased new cut-to-length tin from a local metal siding retailer, and I used that 4 or 5 foot wide vinyl backed insulation which was put on right before the metal siding and roof were which holds the insulation in place (the insulation can be a little pricey, but it’s well worth the investment upfront). I personally did all my own electrical, and hired some help to stand the frame and install the insulation, siding, and roofing metal. My total cost was around $8500 material and help… oh yeah, and I also got two overhead doors that came off the loading dock of a building they were getting ready to tear down. Of course I did have to go and take them down, and I also had to remove some panels when installing them in my building because they were much taller than I could use. Looking at it from the outside, it looks like a brand new metal building, but a lot of cost was saved repurposing the metal framing. If at all possible put your overhead doors and walkthrough door on the 40 foot side, it’s plenty deep that way, I couldn’t because of the place where I had to build it wouldn’t allow me to, and it feels like there’s wasted space, if there is any such thing as wasted space, we always find a way to fill it up. Good luck on your project.
@@MizterHutch Glad I came across your comment. I'm working on getting permitting done this week actually and I keep hemming and hawing about whether or not I could get by with a 10 foot wall open span 4/12 roof or if I really need to upgrade to an 11 or 12 foot wall. I don't own any trucks, don't really plan on getting one but we know how that goes. If I snagged on a square body-flare side one day I wouldn't be too upset. With a 2 post or 4 post, either one, the math tells me I wont be banging my roofs on my roof. Cost isn't the concern it is I have to look at the thing in the back of my backyard which is 100-150 foot off the back of the house. Structure is 30x40 and I'd be looking at the long side when drinking my morning cup on the patio. How big are your side walls and will 10 foot walls suffice.. again, If I don't have to look at a bigger building I would rather keep it down just a smidge for backyard aesthetics.
Friday's are borderline the highlight of my week, can't wait for his newest venture. My family and I live in a camper so life is obviously rough, watching Derek is an escape with an education.
I love how we're all watching Derek slowly go insane on camera, one video at a time. Thanks, Derek! Seriously, though, love the vids. Keep 'em coming, brother!
Thank y'all. Just got a 57 Farmall Cub running in the sellers barn and getting ready to pull er to get new home. Can't even say how many tips learned on this channel I used on that Cub from fuel to lightning. Thank you Mr Derek and family for providing so many years of entertainment and learning. Y'all have a blessed evening.
You are the definition of determination and “don’t stop”. You are an inspiration to us all that tomorrow is a new day, keep fighting ! Glad you made it home Derek, but I would probably flip this one!
What a way to spend a Friday! Coming home after one of those days, to see an old square body. They are like a grandpa, they take a while to get going, and need frequent stops but they won't quit till death takes them. I love these old trucks, please keep going on this one, Patches is such a cool truck. Thank you very much for once again making the end of the week worth living for. Congrats on making two million subs, and may you and your family be blessed. Take care!
Does anyone go back a few years and re-watch old VGG videos? I do. Derek keep it going and be nice to see your family in the intro they are very much a part of Vice Grip

Thankyou Derek!!! These are my favorite videos. I love that you don’t lose hope even in the toughest situations and that you’ve stayed true to your content style. Keep up the work feller can’t wait for you to take us on another journey
When Derek mentioned the back roads and supporting small businesses, with highways avoiding all that great experience, it felt like the plot of Cars 1. The show is basically MacGyver meets Cars.
Awesome run! Definately miss your old style mechanical adventures with a questionable vehicle and trying to limp it back home. THAT is what being diehard UA-cam mechanic is about. Great job!!
Hello derek started watching when you had 100 thousand subscribers whent back and watched all your shows . Love all of them looking forward to your new ones every Friday night.
Hi there Derek .. im 78 and i always look forward to your next show .been a long time fan of yours . I think the old truck needs to be put out of its misery . ----------------------------
I got a 94 Silverado 2500 with a 454 for sale…… runs. Registered. Passes smog. Good wheels and tires. Unfortunately I have no use for it since my cancer diagnosis. $3000 obo….
First, sorry to hear that… I wish you the best. I assume, based on your name, you are in California? I may be interested. I have a small truck, wish I had a full size.
Derek in his pop up camper was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. "Luckily there is a severe storm forecast" had me in stitches. Yes folks, this is the reality of camping.
I was thinking the same thing. Good ole vice grip( Best Tool Ever Made) to the rescue. Imagine the top coming down in the middle of a deep sleep. May smother a fella. Offta May!😂
Wow, that rig is like one giant scab with all the mechanical reliability of a $6.00 toaster. Your perseverance is the stuff of legends. "Patience is a virgin" ~ Archie Bunker
Another great installment! Had me cracking up plenty times, and enjoyed the camping/roadtrip! The old truck was entertaining, but my vote is send it on to the next owner!
I’m almost crying as this reminds me of everything my dad ever did when I was a kid. The term “Okie” comes to mind with nearly everything that happens. So happy! So excited to see what happens! So much entertainment!
I'm 45 and own a 84 dodge she still a better runner than new trucks today. This show gives me motivation keep er running .....nothing like carbarators lol
Do you realize you made the square bodies that much more expensive and more sought after because of this video! That truck you are driving will eventually be a million dollar truck! Imagine all new modern suspension and the best LS engine in there!! Keep the rust. It’s beautiful ol’ rusty. It’s already cool, you being a driver is a bonus.
Derek, I love your channel. I spent 42 years in the shipbuilding industry building America's greatest freedom fighting ships. During that time I had multiple employees have grinding dust and pieces of grinding wheel wire surgically removed from their eyes. Why? No safety glasses. You have a lot of young people who watch your channel to learn how to do things right. I think you can help them by letting them see you wearing safety glasses. Scientific studies prove wearing safety glasses does not cause brain damage. I share this as a fellow car community buff and as a guy with two good eyes. Keep it up Buddy and God bless you.
It's really inspiring to watch a guy follow his dreams. Please take a break and be with your family. I wish I could do what you do but could never be away from my family weeks on end. Thank you for all you do.
Those modules were on the Speed Wall because they were prone to failure. That wall is/was for quick access to common replacement parts. I don't remember them failing any more often than a Ford or Doge ignition component, but they were know to fail.
Derek, you are officially the commander-in-chief of every hot rodder… you are a terrific man and all the rich Jay Leno and people around him. Need to take note on how to be a real car guy from you. God bless you and your family. Thank you for being a good dude.
Bro what is a "real car guy" and who made you the gatekeeper? Jay Leno is rich because he hosted one of the most popular talk shows of all time for decades. And Tim Allen is rich because he made tons of movies and tv shows. And now Derek is rich because of this show and others and merchandise. None of them started out rich and none of them shove it in your face either. Derek more or less plays a role of a sort of broke backyard mechanic mixed with red green. You think he actually struggles so much he needs to put old lawnmower gas in these? It's entertainment. Rich Has nothing to do with who is a real car guy, they're all certified real car guys.
It’s awesome you stopped in my town! Next time you stop at the old ford museum, grab a bite to eat at the drive in next to it! Mr. D’s is locally owned and has been in business for years. It’s a great place for a bite to eat!
I have been watching your UA-cam videos for years now, and it never disappoints!! You're definitely one of my top 3 UA-camrs that makes me LMAO every time I watch your newest video. God Bless America 🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲
The love and loyalty Derek has for his fans to sleep in that worn out pop up camper when there is a nice comfortable hotel right around the corner. I would have chosen the hotel.
Kinda scared me when you were at the BP station, you had that look on your face like you were pondering your life choices, but then you pulled yourself together and got her done….

I have an idea Derek . The way you like air fresheners you should sale them with Derek’s dictionary of words on it . Lightning cube = battery.. etc… might be a good seller 👍👍👍👍
Oh yeah VGG Friday! Always a blast!
We love you Derek. ❤ 👍🏻
33:25 who else was waiting for Dolly to belt out 🎼tumble outta bed and stumble to the kitchen pour myself a cup of ambition and yawn and stretch and try to come alive🎼
@@danjones1365 YES! I was! Wondered if Derek actually paid some big time royalties for Dolly....Nope.
@@Rob-Müller knew I wouldn’t be the only one whose ears perked up for a second like, wait, couldn’t be. Such a tease.
Congrats! Having a hobby is the sign that you made it!
Make sure to buy a fridge for the shop, stay hydrated!
@@geniusanthony I calculated 12 foot side walls would be sufficient. The peak will be around 14 feet.
@@MizterHutchthat’s awesome, you don’t live near Columbus, Ohio do you?😁😁
Friday's are borderline the highlight of my week, can't wait for his newest venture. My family and I live in a camper so life is obviously rough, watching Derek is an escape with an education.
"A pinch of perseverance and patience" this man is something special to behold.
True American! If we all had Derek’s talents, values and personality what a world it would be. Thank you sir. You’re a true role model. 🙏🏻😇
I live in my van and sometimes park over night at the Walmart here. its free though.. British Columbia Canada
I love the music for the road trip sections, pause for the tech issue, and back to the song! It is so much better than anything on television.
You are the definition of determination and “don’t stop”. You are an inspiration to us all that tomorrow is a new day, keep fighting !
Glad you made it home Derek, but I would probably flip this one!
A guy couldn’t be happier on this fine Friday to watch some VGG.
Ditto😊😊😊
I look forward to it every friday.
I do watch your videos for the build but your commentary is fantastically funny to me thank you
What a way to spend a Friday! Take care!
Midnight here in Glasgow, Scotland.. what a bedtime treat!
Derek. Long time watcher. Nice episode. Way to get home. Speaking of home, I’d re-home that one.
Does anyone go back a few years and re-watch old VGG videos? I do. Derek keep it going and be nice to see your family in the intro they are very much a part of Vice Grip
Derek love the video. I also have noticed that no matter how bad it get you just keep on truckin. Thanks. This is a great lesson, I take things too personal and just always stressin. You keep me motivated Derek, Thank you great job.
I seen you on 70 east bound side in MO! I thought..Thats not your normal thing anymore! Good Job VG!
I love the idea of going through the 3+3 dolling it up and keeping it around. Large cab bagged trucks are extremely cool.
Thankyou Derek!!! These are my favorite videos. I love that you don’t lose hope even in the toughest situations and that you’ve stayed true to your content style. Keep up the work feller can’t wait for you to take us on another journey
Had my eye on that pickup on marketplace for a week or so, thanks for taking one for the team lol
Re-Home that thing, You got a full Plate of other issues to deal with. Music while Traveling, nice touch. Thanx Man. 😃
When Derek mentioned the back roads and supporting small businesses, with highways avoiding all that great experience, it felt like the plot of Cars 1. The show is basically MacGyver meets Cars.
Unscripted and real!
Awesome run! Definately miss your old style mechanical adventures with a questionable vehicle and trying to limp it back home. THAT is what being diehard UA-cam mechanic is about. Great job!!
Love when a guy puts out a new video to watch on a Saturday morning with coffee
This truck isn't the cat farm crew cabs brother. This is its Cousin Eddie.
lol
That's it cousin eddie....yessss I love it
Cousin Eddie is the perfect name!
Exactly what I was thinking the whole time I was watching the video!
If you don’t mind me asking: how much did that set ya back?
A restoration series would be fantastic! Thanks VGG!
----------------------------
I disagree. It ain't dead yet. And when they do die, they can still be used for parts.
I say it would be a great crash up derby vehicle!
Even after the event, you could likely still drive it home!
Very much enjoyed from my airconditioned Louisiana home, thanks Derek.
It seems so easy until i walk outside😂
I got a 94 Silverado 2500 with a 454 for sale…… runs. Registered. Passes smog. Good wheels and tires. Unfortunately I have no use for it since my cancer diagnosis. $3000 obo….
Sounds like a good truck . Hopefully you cancer situation works out for you.
First, sorry to hear that… I wish you the best. I assume, based on your name, you are in California? I may be interested. I have a small truck, wish I had a full size.
Hi Derek nice video 📹 and workmanship!!! Sorry You have issues with that Tuff Youngster !!! But it'll get better !!! SOS that and do basic stuff !!!
I kept hearing the theme song to Sanford and Son every time you'd drive off....😂 I've seen enough of that old truck. Flip it.
Thanks for shouting the Small Business in Small Towns... that's Real America!
Offta May!😂
The rain came but he survived like is friend. The big man adjusted the weather in his favor. 😁
Restore is the bomb. And yes on the highways. We try to do it as much as we can.
Wow, that rig is like one giant scab with all the mechanical reliability of a $6.00 toaster. Your perseverance is the stuff of legends.
"Patience is a virgin" ~ Archie Bunker
I would pick the toaster over that thing. 😭
I love the music soundtrack! Im here for Derek's editing 😊.
Absolutely love VGG! Cold snack time!
We had tent trailers growing up. Great for small families.
Over 90 minutes of remembering what made this country great. What a treat.
Completely overhaul the truck! It's awesome! I'd watch every second 2-1/2 times!!
When Derek makes it home, I always feel like I've made it home as well
50 years ago I was a kid and I looked forward to Friday nights because the ROCKFORD FILES were on TV.
NOW I look forward to Friday nights so I can watch a new BICE GRIP GARAGE ❤
right on
One of the few things I can get my 4 year old to sit and watch that isn't Trolls 🤣 She loves some Vice Grip Garage.
Awesome kid bud!!!
"Everything's going fine" Derek i love you and your struggles
Derek, you’re the man. Never get tired of watching your videos. No one likes to work on anything these days, it’s good to see someone that isn’t afraid of it and I learn a thing or two in the meantime. Drink a cold snack for me
Derek, your best tool might be your extensive use of hilarious sarcasm as you spit in the car gods faces and say just try and stop me from drivin' this heap 6oo miles lol!
You need to come up with the Vice Grip Garage dictionary. It would be absolutely hilarious 😂 .
Great idea. To see the definition of things like "Anywhos" and "Bleep Bloop" would be hilarious. It would sell like hotcakes.
Man I love VGG's videos lol im an espiring mechanic so I just like to sit down and binge these to chillax and pass some time and honestly time well spent lmao
Friday again!! Get in touch with me Derek when you’re ready for another car. Got a beauty for you
Needs it now
@@edwardalamo2507 well I’ve emailed my contact information
Well fellas. Time to grab some wobble pops and cold snacks then settle down and hook my peepers on the ol pocket box
And walk around this rig and drink it all up
Rarely see Derek break character but he tickled himself when he said “cream puff lol it’s so ugly”. Ha
You gave me a good laugh when you poped up the camper and gave a tour, great entertainment, got to admire your ambition.
I guy just realized why we are not friends. My names not Chad… 🤣
I save the VGG episodes for early saturday mornings when i can pour a fresh cup of coffee and enjoy Derecks adventures! My pug is snoring like a freight train 😂
As always, a guy has gotta insta-like a vid the second it starts because I know I’m gonna love it. Especially since it’s a bow tie flavor.
Derick, Your videos are so entertaining to watch but you torture yourself rescuing these old rust buckets !
I love the background music you play when you're just killing miles ! Cheers. !
Oh heck yeah forgot it was Friday.......VGG night BABY!!!! Talk more in 91 mins and 30 seconds!!!!👍💯🇨🇦♥️🇺🇸 Thanks Derek you're definitely my go to guy for Friday night entertainment!!! See ya next Friday!!! 👍👍👍
It Will Drive But Will Use Half The Gas In Iowa 😂
Why yes yes it will.
Just got home from a 13 hour day to this… made a guys day. VGG is for the working man.
Awesome video brother just an awesome channel the best! Awesome mechanic just a treat to watch!!
