FORGOTTEN Truck In Cow Pasture With SEIZED Motor - Will It RUN AND DRIVE 1,500 Miles Home?

  • I've got a handful of old trucks sitting in a cow pasture in North Dakota. They've been there for years, and some of these I have no idea when they were on the road last. I'm looking to haul my 4 wheeler back home to Tennessee. I picked out a 1975 Chevrolet Cheyenne Super as my wheels. The problem is, it's got a locked up motor AND rear end. Will it run again and make the 1,500 mile trip?

I had the funeral for my wife of 38 years a month ago today and you were one the few automotive youtubers that she absolutely wouldn't miss... every friday night we would snuggle up on the couch for some good entertainment and learn a couple things along the way. The way you closed out this video about missing the wife and kids hit me right in the feels. Thanks for the hours of entertainment you gave us and keep up the great work.

My life isn't wrecked, but of course it's strange without him around. He used to have a '78 or '79 square body back in the late 90's. When my dad bought a '97 Chevy Z71 step-side he basically gave me the old square body! I had already driven that thing a lot before that and absolutely loved it! Can't remember if it was GMC or Chevrolet (basically the same). I will have another some day soon! There's lots of them all over the south.

@rustyfox887 I agree! Two tone or single tone either way! Those old square bodies are the best! We had about a '78 or '79 that was pale yellow with tan & brown interior. I loved that truck. A very strange situation led to us losing it. Too much get into but it was a hard time. I also had a 1980 Chevy custom van that had the coolest tinted side windows in the back. It had an Allen Bradley push button start, and the power windows on that rig were lethal! I lost that rig at the same time as the truck. Such is life!

I bought a 1977 Bandit Trans Am with a seized motor for $400. I did the exact same thing , only i used PB Blaster. Emptied the can in all 8 cylinders, waited 3 hours , hooked uo 2 batteries in 'series' ( 24 volts) and cranked her right up. She ran like a sewing machine! Smooth , no ticks clicks or knocks.
We appreciate your dedication to saving these precious pieces of history. Excellent Job !!
I like your nicknames for parts too.
    Edle broke
    Quadra junk 😅😂❤
Btw , i only cranked it to free it up with the two batteries, then used 1 for the actual 'start' , didn't want to blow the guages. All Good !

Brought back great memories of an 87 I had back in the 90s. Had a slide on camper that we used often camping with the kids and hunting with the brother in-law.

Derek, you are one of the many reasons why I dropped my cable company and pay for UA-cam Premium instead. You and all the X motertrend guys that are back on YT are far more entertaining than anything on modern cable television. I'm fully disabled now, and I can't even drive anything past my local small town. But back in my prime, my best friends and I were always wrenching on something, and I really miss it a lot. So now I live vicariously through shows like VGG and others like Friburger. Thanks for all you do. Your sense of humor is the greatest ever. Many a late night, I have to be careful not to wake the wife up from laughing so hard! 😂 God bless you, brother. Keep the wrenches spinning, and we'll be here to support you.

Derek, I really loved this episode. I myself have 5 brothers and the only thing I love more than turning wrenches is spending time with my brothers and their kids. You guys remind me so much of my own brothers, the humor and the garage hangouts. You guys rule!

Nice! The original and the best.

Derek, please delve more into your pasture-ized vehicles of your past. What happened with the bonneville? And for all that is holy please do an old land yacht wagon like that gold LTD.
From oregon, thanks so much for everything you and family bring to the world.

I been watching these "Will it drives" on this channel for several years now, and I think this one is legit my favorite. For some reason, the whole beginning of it - the having to bring out the skidsteer and trailer it and push it awkwardly into an old garage just gives me that feeling of "humble beginnings."

I've been watching VGG since the early days, and seeing these classic garage sessions with family just hits different. Nothing beats seeing that light blue Cheyenne come back to life in the snow. Derek, your videos are pure gold - keep these genuine builds coming!

In my opinion, one of the best you’ve ever done. You seem more at ease and it was more like old school in a garage, which is cool.

Cool truck. Great episode, thank you. I drove from St. Albert Alberta Canada in March to Washington Iowa in a U-Haul full for 385 cast iron implement seats to sell at auction. I recognized some of the roads you travelled. Brought back some great memories. I powered through in 26 hours on Mars bars and cigarettes LOL! Keep it up. Currently playing with an 86 CJ7 that had the drivetrain rebuilt 25 years ago and it sat empty of any fluids so it took me a month of soaking and turning the motor over a 1/4 turn every day after soaking for two weeks. Removed all factory wiring, added MSD ignition and spark make it happener and she runs really good and making no suspicious noises. Drivetrain test next week.

Man that's a nice truck. Brings back alot of childhood memories riding shotgun with my granddad headed to the lake. He'd pick me up at 5am and i wouldn't get home till after dark. I miss that so much

I wish I had a reminiscent story of one of these great ol' American trucks..
You've made a man who appreciated American classics, into a man who loves these American classics..
    All of that to say...
I deeply appreciate these full length videos. The "full" video, of bringing back a wonderful old truck, that deserves a second chance at life, is extremely enjoyable to watch. The longer video, full of both the more mundane, along with the witty, humorous moments, helps a feller to really feel like he's there with you as he watches. It's as if I'm right there with you, during the project.
    Thank you Derek.

Getting the skid steer out there, moving cars around, extracting the truck, borrowing another skid steer, getting the truck into the garage, returning borrowed skid steer #2, going back and getting skid steer #1 - that would be a good month's work for me. For you, that was day one.

I can barely tell one end of a truck from another. Always been that way. But I LOVED hanging out with my Dad, Uncle, brother and cousin that were all decent mechanics. I didn't learn much about mechanic-ing but sure learned plenty about everything else. Derek and his brother, some of his kids, hanging out and talking strategy, reminded me strongly of those times. Thank you!
