This video got me out of a jam! Stuck with the ignition on the on position. Luckily there was a plumber sitting in his truck with torx and an 8mm. I was back on the road 5 minutes after watching this. Thanks!!!
No problem. My pleasure!
Brother, if you tube awarded Oscar's, hands down you've got my vote for best video of the year. You saved me from countless hours of grief and horror. My ignition was stuck in the start position from months of using a screwdriver to start it. I am jazzed. Thanks man.
My pleasure. Glad it helped. Appreciate you stopping by the channel.
This help me get my car crank today. Thanks for the info
My pleasure. Appreciate you!
Bro!!! This was clutch! Thank you SO MUCH!!! This was definitely what I needed! No parts needed. I know it's just a bandaid, and I will need to fix the ultimate problem, but you put me back in the game. Great video
My pleasure. Appreciate you!
Man, you may have just made my day. My poor old truck is going to lay down any time now, and I absolutely do not want to pour any more cash into repairs before buying a new one, but the key has been giving me trouble for months. I've developed a "touch" for getting it to turn but nobody else can. Even then some days I'm stuck fiddling with it for a good while before I can leave wherever I'm parked and I know one day it'll be stuck for good. I've been saying if I found a way to bypass it it would be fine, and this is perfect! Will try, thanks so much!
Same thing just happened in my truck. I appreciate this workaround. It’s good to have an option until I can get it repaired.
Glad it helped. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
You are the man my good sir! Was at the gym about to go home and it happened to me out of no where , played games with the guys at oreillys and got 2 relays a new ignition lock Cylinder and then got to return it all thanks to you.
My pleasure!
Hi brother. Great video and explanation.
Today my Ford e250 won't start, I turn the key back and forward and nothing.
I was looking for bads fuse or relays, and I found your video and I will check it in a minute. Thank you so much. May God bless you 🙏
Thanks. Appreciate you brother!
Great info - You are helping people. You helped me!
My pleasure. Appreciate you!
You're a genius! Thanks for the video
Blessings to you and yours my friend. Saved the day! 🙏

Been starting mine this way for years lol
Thank you big help
My pleasure. Any time!
I have a similar situation. I have a 1995 crown Victoria my car is stuck in the own position stuck started up. I can’t turn my vehicle off. I have to pull the fuel release fuse which is the only way I can get my vehicle to turn off. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Yes thank you mines just broke
Replaced the switch for 98 mercury & put key in , its stuck & won't turn now & doesn't want to release , maybe it has to be in run position or something , good info on switch though
I'm going throw the same thing but when I cranked it it wouldn't let me put it in drive what can I do
Sounds like might have to take a closer look in the steering column to see what's going.
I’m installing a kill switch and came across your video. Which is the cable in this starting module that gives power form the starter?
I’m not sure off hand. I’ll take a look at if for you.

@@daddydiysolutions Thank you boss!
This video is fantastic and is a big help until I can get this fixed. I don't suppose you know what that the technical term for that linkage is? I've been looking for it and haven't found it.
Thanks! I'm not sure what the technical term is for the linkage. If you find out what it is, please let me know. Thanks again for commenting and stopping by the channel.
@@daddydiysolutions will do
Actuator rod. When you turn the key in the key cylinder, it also turns a little cog wheel that moves the rod which has teeth on it. Turning the key to start moves the rod forward, turning the key to accessories moves the rod backwards. There is a notch on the underside of the steering column (metal) right next to the slot where you can see the rod move (if the ignition switch is removed). I believe that notch should align with the hole in the actuator rod with the key in the run position. There are you tube videos showing how to replace the rod (plastic). It looks pretty labor intensive.
Thank you for your help, Daddy DIY. I think I'm just going to stick with 'the hack' for now. I have 8 months before my inspection is due. 😄
Steering column actuator rod.
Thanks! I appreciate you! I'm going to keep using the hack as well for now.
Will this work on a 2010 model?
It might. Check to see what type of ignition switch you have. Check out this video for details on how to access and remove the ignition switch: ua-cam.com/video/7_C8AyThzqs/v-deo.html
What tools am i gonna need to take it out?

How long can you keep doing this method?
No limits. You’re just bypassing the ignition lock cylinder.
Does it work for a 02 ranger?
It might. Need to check and see what type of ignition switch you have.
❤
On a 91 ranger
The 91 ranger has a different type of ignition switch. You'd have to give it a try to see if you can activate it manually.
So i had to do this because my keys kept turning loose after my car randomly shut off. Now i cant figure out how to put it back on because the key wont crank it to start. Any ideas?? Maybe my lock cylinder is broken or something inside the steering column?
Ahhh i see you talked about the exact issue i have right now. What is the "linkage" called and did you ever repair it??
I couldn’t track down a repair kit for just the linkage on the column. It looks like my steering column will ultimately need to be replaced to fix my issue. I’ve been using this hack to drive around for several months now.
You mentioned that your vehicle was randomly shutting off as well. Not sure if that is a different problem or related to the linkage issue.
Does this work on 98 Lincoln town car?
It might. Just need to check if your ignition switch looks like this one. Ford used this same switch on a lot of their vehicles (Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury) made from the 90s through early 2000s.
@@daddydiysolutions thanks
How does this work if the steering column is locked as my cylinder will not turn.
Sometimes you can free a locked steering wheel by turning it gently as you try to wiggle the key and lock cylinder (even if it can’t turn all the way).
I got it started, but for some reason the transmission won’t go into gear. Any idea what’s up?
Is the steering wheel locked or will it turn? You might have another issue inside the steering column.
I have the same issue now, but your hack did get me out of the grocery store parking lot into the house. I turned everything off and turned it back on again and tried to put it in gear to back up and no luck. I jiggled the thing that's on the brake pedal was able to put it in reverse but that's it no forward
I did subscribe to your channel though
Alright it worked now my steering wheel is locked and I can’t get it into gear. Can’t win today😂
This is exactly what happened to me with my ford. Did you figure out what broke?
I think I’m going to need a new steering column.
My car ignition is the same but something behind the ignition is broke inside the steering column which a mechanic told me I will need a new steering colum
Yep, sounds like you have the same issue I have.
@daddydiy7997 can that be fix or will you have to just replace the whole steering colum?
It depends on what it is. If your problem is the sliding linkage like I showed in the video, I don't think that can just be replaced. However, if your issue is the ignition switch/lock actuator key cylinder gear, that can be replaced. Here's a link to one listed on eBay just to show you what I'm talking about: ebay.us/FLq2ja
@daddydiy7997 I just received another steering colum today from ebay
The ignition (where the key goes in) is easy to replace - but have to replace your keys with it.
The linkage (between ignition key to the actuator) is a pain to replace! You basically have to disassemble the whole steering column.
I have the same issue, and just use the ignition actuator hack like this. Haven't been a problem. The only thing that a buddy of mine recommended is, if you are in a humid climate or wet climate, the actuator can go bad faster because the electronics are exposed. But they are piece to replace.
Also, make sure your key in the ignition is turned to the locked position, so it doesn't "accidentally" fall off while driving ...and bad stuff happens.
What if you keys lost
I don't think the 91 ranger key has a transponder in the head (PATS System). I suggest you consider installing a kill switch on these older Fords that don't have the Passive Anti-Theft System.

After it starts my truck wont move out of park..what next? Lol
What was your problem on why your ignition cylinder was so loose ?
The linkage in my steering column is broken.
What size torx tool did you use to take that off ?
Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/7_C8AyThzqs/v-deo.html
Do you absolutely have to have a key in the ignition? My key is broken
Not necessarily. If your key has a chip in the head, it needs to be in range of the PATS module.
@@daddydiysolutions So even if the key is broken as long as it's in range?
Yep. There's a transceiver in the steering column that needs to be able to communicate with the key.
Stupid ford too easy to steal. My 94 ranger was stolen 2 weeks ago. Luckily they didn't get out of the lot it was in, but now I need a new steering column. Bunch of crap
Sounds like you need to install a kill switch.
