I only needed it for 3 months but they kept trying to get me to sign a contract for 6 months which would have obliged me to pay for the entire six months. After calling customer service to time and trying to reach them a 3rd time, my contract problem still wasn't fixed and my car was stuck at a job site. You saved my ass man thank you
How did you only need it for 3 months . I had my provisional license. Got a speeding ticket now I have to get one of these . I can get my license back I’m June but if I decide to get this device I’ll need it for 6 months I was told
I'm so frickin stoked to learn I'm not the only person this company has ripped off!!!!!!! About 6 months ago I got my license back and had to install this ignition interlock. I've had several violations due to SMART STARTS faulty equipment and just like everyone else is saying, smart start says it's my fault! I've payed this company about $350 in lockout fees on top of the $80 they charge a month. And every single one of the lockout fees I've had to pay is because of smart starts faulty equipment. On top of all this every violation adds another 6 months of me having to have ignition interlock. How are these people allowed to do this? Has anyone got any money back from violations due to there faulty equipment?

Yeah can’t believe these machines are under a lease and you can’t just pay a grand or so to buy it from the start. Have it for 3 years and at like 86$ a month it’s gonna come out to over 3 grand just for the monthly payments. Not to mention recalibration every 2 months for 20 bucks that’ll add up to 360 more bucks. And at the end I don’t even get to keep the blow and go to use it here and there if I want to test my BAC…. Stupid man
@@Werk4Cash Life Safer calibration fee is like 120 a month and that's with insurance in case the device breaks or is stolen. And I do hate it how the device wont even display your bac if you do violate. Thats why I got a bac tester from Walgreens for 75 bucks. Our apparently will just give you a fail , a low fail or a high fail. The regular fail is for stupid shit like mouth mouth wash so you just retetst in 15 minutes, but the other ones add time to your sentence. also watch out for windshield washer fluid. I used a jug to clean my glass and it failed me, that shit has methanol in it lol.

Starter relays come in 2 flavors. 4 pin, and 5 pin. The pins on a 4 pin relay are numbered 30, 85, 86, & 87. The 5 pin relay has the same pin numbers, but the 5th pin is numbered 87A. No 30 is B+. No 87 is the starter solenoid feed wire. In a nutshell, if you apply battery power to the #87 wire, it will energize the starter. You can come off #30, or straight off the battery, to number #87 and viola'. Use at least 12ga wire, and remove the jumper after the car starts.

If you do you should not have a security issue because your just applying power to the starter through the relay just like the key does when you turn it all the way
I received a restriction on my license 18 years ago. Haven't had a violation since I was involved in an incident and I had a couple of beers. My BAC was way below the legal limit and the state of Minnesota hung me with this bee card violation that I could have removed 8 years ago and didn't. So it's my fault too. But I have to have this damn machine for three years and it's driving me bananas. Even the judge felt. Sorry for me but the prosecutor wouldn't back down. He had to hang me with that. No use of alcohol restriction from 18 years ago
Mine was 17 years ago I paid my DUI charge every penny in fines but the state of Arizona never restricted my license. Fast forward to 2024 my family decided to move to another state. So when I tried to transfer my license Arizona falgg3d it and said I couldn't transfer my license unless I installed a interlock due to my dui back in 2008
I got a dui in a random pullover and now dealing with this bad boy. It's only been a day and I'm ready for my freedom again 😩. Not just the machine how much these damn things cost!
Hopefully you have relatives to help you out. You'll need to buy a car battery charger. This thing drains the battery so you end up needing a reset fee.
But if this is part of your probation, and you take it to get it recalibrated, even If you put things back the way it.was, could they not be able to tell it was messed with?
I don't have one of these on my car but I think it must have had one in the past. There are odd inline fuses hanging under the dash. I'm having problems with the cigarette lighter fuse blowing and think it must be related to that. I thought I'd look online to see if it shows how they were installed to the wiring. These things are just scams.
Question? If you're not locked out once you turn the key it asks you to blow. Do you blow and pass and then use your tequniue? My issue is the thing has mal functioned and now my ignition key won't start the vehicle. So smart start is telling me to tow it to the installation company.
Can you do this on a vehicle with a push button ignition? I got the wires into the relay but when i put the can in the on position it wants me to blow into it? If i blow into the the machine and pass the test itll let me start the car by touching the wires together but theres no power coming through the wires until it gets a valid test
Same here. My device keeps malfunctioning. Bunch of freaking scamming SOB's. If you file a complaint to BBB and your state's Dept of Commerce, you will get your money back. Who knows how long, but they're the only one who can fight this evil company.
I think they do it differently here I heard they program it into the computer of the car, because it seems like it's just interrupting your starter wire. But apparently here you have to reblow 5 minutes after you've started and have not the car will shut down
Search online and you can find the wiring diagram for the interlock. Going under the dash, you leave constant 12 volt power to the device and cut the other wire which is hooked into the starter circuit. Join the ends of the starter wire together and you are good to go. Just don't forget to hook it all back up with soldered connections like the installer did before you go in for servicing or removal. A hidden switch can also be installed somewhere to bypass the handheld device and turned back on a few days before taking it in for servicing. When they plug it in to their machine, it displays all the times you blew into it. Enjoy your day!
Do you know if it will trigger any violations though?? Doesn’t the interlock record your vehicles mileage as well so if you drive with the device bypassed the miles won’t add up properly? I only want to try this so I can do thinks like drink some beer and wash my car and then beable to drive it back into my garage. It sucks not being able to have some beers on a Saturday afternoon and shine up or work on my car so here I am either workin on my car with no beer, or drinkin beer and not really being able to work on my car :/ shit sucks man

What I always wondered was if I have stick shift and I try to bump start my car, what would happen? Would it start and run without they system knowing anything?
What happens though when it goes off if your driving I guess it never comes out of the violated mode so to speak does, I've got an intoxalock and I've never had an issue and I get it removed the 7th of Feb so roughly 2weeks I dont think I wanna try this I'm too close to freedom so to speak

Cool idea... but in theory could be done better... Your blow device likely has connection to starter relay and connection to power... Tools reqd...12v battery, lil wire, your favorite stripper, t tap connectors, quick connect electrical connectors.. Use piece of wire and t-tap connectors to splice into the positive and negative on device... Put the ends of the wire splice to 12v battery (adding battery in parallel wont change voltage...just ah) this will provide power to device. Once the battery is attached in parallel to the device power/ground wires you can cut the wires and device will still have 12v, put quick connectors on the cuts and replace portion of wire you removed with one with quick connects. Cut/put quick connects on starter relay cables. Proceed to place the 12v battery attached to blower device on a slow charger...leave it in garage...reverse steps monthly to put device back in for calibrations/minimum mileage...

I did what you said on this video and even took out the transponder and remote starter, but the light keeps on blinking and not even a crank. The on and off switch for the security are two red wires, which seems to run into somewhere in the hood. I don't know what else I should do. And I can't find any other memory box for the security except the two boxes I mentioned earlier. Somebody help me
the smart start interlock system is an absolute con. The number of people that tell me to just use your kid or passenger to blow into the system, Plus not to mention how cheap and faulty this equipment is, always malfunctioning and guess what kids, you need that thing to start your car unless you bypass it. Another fun fact, that is incredibly dangerous requiring the driver to complete a rolling testing while driving (some instances the driver cannot pull over) and if you don't do the test, you get fined. The device constantly treats the person like a criminal, and if you're a one time offender it's pretty humiliating. Last complaint is, the device is effectively a computer which needs initializing when starting up meaning if you're in an emergency that requires that person to start the car and leave immediately, that won't be happening, it can take a few minutes before you start your car. Long story short, I'm requesting getting that piece of shit device removed from my car, I would prefer to pay a large fine and not drive that have that garbage in my vehicle. Please people, don't support this equipment, it's an absolute con. effectively you're paying a company to allow you to drive your own vehicle, though this company holds you ransom once their crap equipment is installed
when I had it on my truck I got stranded in Georgia I was work a job and it was Thanksgiving weekend I had to get home I just used a paper clip never said nothing to smartstart never got in any trouble cause those are shitty devices couldn't even eat pizza without the damn thing say valuation did two years of that at 110.00 a month. it's a money game

@@turtleyto no success man :( but I have heard of people jumping the selinoid on their car and it completely bypasses it but I am way to scared to try it, there’s definitely a possibility that it will show the car was started without any blowing. It sucks man I’ve done hours of research and just can’t figure out a way around it but there has to be one we just don’t know it yet
Would this work on a 2016 ram Cummins? With the box unplugged? I wanna try this but my only fear is that they'll be able to see that the truck ran without the box and they'll come after me.
It does all it is is they attach a switch to your starter that switch turns on when the breathalyzer is turned on by passing the blow the relay connects to the starter as well but won't connect to the breathalyzer it's a great way to steal a car and I mean any car 🤣
Do the interlocks have gps on them? Would they be tracking where the car is at and notice there weren’t any breathalyzer scans or passes before and after the car reaches its destination or is it not that tech savy lol
It's possible your neutral safety switch is stopping it. My mustang use to be auto but swapped to 5 speed. Never hooked up safety switch so car starts without pressing clutch. Have someone push the clutch down and try it.
My state goes by mileage, fortunately i don't need a camera. Disconnected completely for long road trip and reinstalled when back home. gave them subtracted mileage at calibration. all good.

I have been sober the 5 years. Before I have had to install but this safe lock installation I have had to jump the solenoid to get mine started but now I have no spark when I try that so is the lifesaver stopping my spark

Mine did not have GPS. As for the camera it is only supposed to operate when your blowing into the device. Also if your to the point of bypassing it I'm sure you don't care about the camera lol

Is it wired to the starter only? That’s hella stupid and simple to defeat if it is because on modern cars the PCM will give spark and fuel as long as it receives signal from crank sensor, it doesn’t care if it’s cranked by a starter or anything else, that’s why you can roll start a manual car. What I am saying here is as long as you can crank the engine somehow when the ignition key is in on position, the car will start and stay running, and you can pop the hood of your car and complete the circuit of starter solenoid with a screw driver or any metal bar, and the starter will engage the flywheel(or flex plate) teeth and crank the engine.
That’s all it’s hooked to is the ignition wire under the dash that engages the starter when you turn the key. When you blow into the device and hear it click that is the relay completing the circuit

I got it started using this method. The problem I’m having is the car won’t stay on. Does instantly and gives me a security light in the dash.

Hopefully you have relatives to help you out. You'll need to buy a car battery charger. This thing drains the battery so you end up needing a reset fee.
But if this is part of your probation, and you take it to get it recalibrated, even If you put things back the way it.was, could they not be able to tell it was messed with?
I don't have one of these on my car but I think it must have had one in the past. There are odd inline fuses hanging under the dash. I'm having problems with the cigarette lighter fuse blowing and think it must be related to that. I thought I'd look online to see if it shows how they were installed to the wiring.

Question? If you're not locked out once you turn the key it asks you to blow. Do you blow and pass and then use your tequniue? My issue is the thing has mal functioned and now my ignition key won't start the vehicle. So smart start is telling me to tow it to the installation company.
Can you do this on a vehicle with a push button ignition? I got the wires into the relay but when i put the can in the on position it wants me to blow into it? If i blow into the the machine and pass the test itll let me start the car by touching the wires together but theres no power coming through the wires until it gets a valid test

Same here. My device keeps malfunctioning. Bunch of freaking scamming SOB's. If you file a complaint to BBB and your state's Dept of Commerce, you will get your money back. Who knows how long, but they're the only one who can fight this evil company.
Don't those things have GPS transponders in them ? If so, they can review the data & determine you've been driving around.
They do not, they have to calibrate it monthly to see if the vehicle has been running that's it

I think they do it differently here I heard they program it into the computer of the car, because it seems like it's just interrupting your starter wire. But apparently here you have to reblow 5 minutes after you've started and have not the car will shut down

Your car will not shutdown if you don’t do a retest. Typically it will just activate the horn and/or the lights.
While driving mine has me do a random blow every 5-60 minutes won’t I still have to do the breath tests?
If it's in lockout mode it won't do anything or even know the car is running

Search online and you can find the wiring diagram for the interlock. Going under the dash, you leave constant 12 volt power to the device and cut the other wire which is hooked into the starter circuit. Join the ends of the starter wire together and you are good to go. Just don't forget to hook it all back up with soldered connections like the installer did before you go in for servicing or removal. A hidden switch can also be installed somewhere to bypass the handheld device and turned back on a few days before taking it in for servicing. When they plug it in to their machine, it displays all the times you blew into it. Enjoy your day!
Do you know if it will trigger any violations though?? Doesn’t the interlock record your vehicles mileage as well so if you drive with the device bypassed the miles won’t add up properly? I only want to try this so I can do thinks like drink some beer and wash my car and then beable to drive it back into my garage. It sucks not being able to have some beers on a Saturday afternoon and shine up or work on my car so here I am either workin on my car with no beer, or drinkin beer and not really being able to work on my car :/ shit sucks man

Cool idea... but in theory could be done better...
Your blow device likely has connection to starter relay and connection to power...
Tools reqd...12v battery, lil wire, your favorite stripper, t tap connectors, quick connect electrical connectors..
Use piece of wire and t-tap connectors to splice into the positive and negative on device...
Put the ends of the wire splice to 12v battery (adding battery in parallel wont change voltage...just ah) this will provide power to device. Once the battery is attached in parallel to the device power/ground wires you can cut the wires and device will still have 12v, put quick connectors on the cuts and replace portion of wire you removed with one with quick connects. Cut/put quick connects on starter relay cables. Proceed to place the 12v battery attached to blower device on a slow charger...leave it in garage...reverse steps monthly to put device back in for calibrations/minimum mileage...

SOS Any body. I have a 2010 F150 XRT suddenly the security system would not let me start. I did what you said on this video and even took out the transponder and remote starter, but the light keeps on blinking and not even a crank. The on and off switch for the security are two red wires, which seems to run into somewhere in the hood. I don't know what else I should do. And I can't find any other memory box for the security except the two boxes I mentioned earlier.

the smart start interlock system is an absolute con. The number of people that tell me to just use your kid or passenger to blow into the system, Plus not to mention how cheap and faulty this equipment is, always malfunctioning and guess what kids, you need that thing to start your car unless you bypass it.
Another fun fact, that is incredibly dangerous requiring the driver to complete a rolling testing while driving (some instances the driver cannot pull over) and if you don't do the test, you get fined. The device constantly treats the person like a criminal, and if you're a one time offender it's pretty humiliating.
Last complaint is, the device is effectively a computer which needs initializing when starting up meaning if you're in an emergency that requires that person to start the car and leave immediately, that won't be happening, it can take a few minutes before you start your car.
Long story short, I'm requesting getting that piece of shit device removed from my car, I would prefer to pay a large fine and not drive that have that garbage in my vehicle. Please people, don't support this equipment, it's an absolute con. effectively you're paying a company to allow you to drive your own vehicle, though this company holds you ransom once their crap equipment is installed

@@turtleyto no success man :( but I have heard of people jumping the selinoid on their car and it completely bypasses it but I am way to scared to try it, there’s definitely a possibility that it will show the car was started without any blowing. It sucks man I’ve done hours of research and just can’t figure out a way around it but there has to be one we just don’t know it yet

I would imagine it would. All these systems do is put a relay switch in between your ignition switch. So it should work for all manufacturers
It does all it is is they attach a switch to your starter that switch turns on when the breathalyzer is turned on by passing the blow the relay connects to the starter as well but won't connect to the breathalyzer it's a great way to steal a car and I mean any car 🤣
Do the interlocks have gps on them? Would they be tracking where the car is at and notice there weren’t any breathalyzer scans or passes before and after the car reaches its destination or is it not that tech savy lol

It's possible your neutral safety switch is stopping it. My mustang use to be auto but swapped to 5 speed. Never hooked up safety switch so car starts without pressing clutch. Have someone push the clutch down and try it.

My state goes by mileage, fortunately i don't need a camera. Disconnected completely for long road trip and reinstalled when back home. gave them subtracted mileage at calibration. all good.

I have been sober the 5 years. Before I have had to install but this safe lock installation I have had to jump the solenoid to get mine started but now I have no spark when I try that so is the lifesaver stopping my spark

Mine did not have GPS. As for the camera it is only supposed to operate when your blowing into the device. Also if your to the point of bypassing it I'm sure you don't care about the camera lol

Is it wired to the starter only? That’s hella stupid and simple to defeat if it is because on modern cars the PCM will give spark and fuel as long as it receives signal from crank sensor, it doesn’t care if it’s cranked by a starter or anything else, that’s why you can roll start a manual car. What I am saying here is as long as you can crank the engine somehow when the ignition key is in on position, the car will start and stay running, and you can pop the hood of your car and complete the circuit of starter solenoid with a screw driver or any metal bar, and the starter will engage the flywheel(or flex plate) teeth and crank the engine.
That’s all it’s hooked to is the ignition wire under the dash that engages the starter when you turn the key. When you blow into the device and hear it click that is the relay completing the circuit
