Fury Brand is a level 2 limit which means towards the end of the game, she could be giving her allies their level 4 limits nearly every fight. Not to even mention Great Gospel. Aerith *had* to die for the second half of the game to be remotely challenging.
This is surprisingly not true. You can test this by keeping her in your party for the entire game with the Yuffie Warp glitch. Her low HP / defense really start to offset her usefulness for random encounters, but she doesn't dominate bosses either because it's better to use all the broken attacking skills. Having played her multiple runs while beating the game's mechanics to death, she ends up around mid tier above Red XIII
In trailer yes, but they did her dirty in the movie. Relegated to the side narratively and not even given a rematch with Loz. That movie was a total letdown in general. Thankfully Tifa is AMAZING in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Finally given the respect she deserves.
Vincent is awesome for a casual gameplay. Use it as you primary mage/healer due to high magic stat. There are a lot of powerful magic/summon kn the game such as ultima. He has long range weapon too, so you can put him in the back row while receiving much less damage
And if you don't want to lose access to regular attacks and spells with his limit break, just give him deathblow. His longbarrel weapon has eight linked slots and never misses. Load him down with summons because he's the best caster (that you can keep anyway.) If his MP run out, pop that limit and use that instead, and the lowered HP from the summons won't matter anymore either. As you say, excellent for casual play.
Whilst looking up random ff7 videos I stumbled upon this video. I watched all of it and really enjoyed your takes. I assumed you were some huge ff7 youtuber and everything was very professional yet unique and stylized. I was floored when I saw your subscriber count... the editing, script, and your personality were great! Keep making videos that come from the heart! You will be big in no time!
They probably didn't answer them very good. The video has several mistakes, like calling Vincent the second best magic user (he is tied with Cait Sith as the third best, behind Cloud and Aerith), or calling Tifa a good mage, as even at the beggining she is behind the two best users, and she only surpases Cid and Barret, her specialties are hitting fast and hard, and even then she is the third in both categories (Cloud and Barret are stronger than her, Red XIII and Yuffie are faster than her), but her limits are actually quite good at the beggining, and it's only when the other characters begin to get their level 3 limits when she starts to lag behind those with really good level 3 limits). She IS mid tier, mind you, but the video contains mistakes about her, as the only things that really keeps her from being stronger than that is that her limit break can only potentially hit seven times (against things like Omnislash or Highwind, which launches at least 15 attacks) and her ultimate weapon is hit or miss, if she has her limit bar full (or almost) she is easily going to do 9999 damage, but if it is almost empty she'll be lucky if she reaches 4000 damage. Those are just some examples of things the video didn't get right, I'll have to see just how many more mistakes it contains that I can catch (I may very well miss some of them)
@@lenlimbo and then again you can always farm powersources/equip championbelt to make your favorite characters stronger and with the slot trick Tifa can get hits all the time if timed right,but still no more than 7 hits. If you want a Tifa powerhouse use 4-cut ,added cut +mime later on . And yes cids "highwind" and Barrets ungermax can be more powerful then omnislash when character are beefed up to 255 strength.
@@danhaden9933 IIRC, Tifa's overflow glitch involves her... was it the Soul Fist? The one that multiplies her attack power with every condition she suffers, the cursed ring and enough strenght to reach, with the multiplier, beyond what the game can manage. I wasn't talking about advanced strategies and special settings, just what a normal player would find in a normal playthrough. 4-cut, added cut and mime aren't exactly your average character settings XD
There is a way around it and it's kind of game-breaking. If you use Phoenix with Final Attack materia, then you will strike back harder than the Empire.
Vincent's Death Penalty and Barrett's Missing Score are the only weapons in the whole game that can do the overflow glitch that does enough damage to 1-shot anything, even Emerald Weapon, except for Ruby and Safer Sephiroth because their defense is insane. If it weren't for his berserk limit breaks I'd put him a few tiers higher
It should be mentioned that because Barret/Yuffie/Vincent use ranged weapons, they can be placed in the back row for half damage while still performing full damage to opponents.
@dan haden Although that's true, you'll probably only have one Long Range materia for most of the game. So not everyone will be able to use it, just one character (probably Cloud). So if the other two party members are naturally long ranged, your entire team can fight in the back row.
@@fancyesquire8888 well I am a grinder and FF7 fanatic and usually get omnislash in disc 1 so by the time i am in disc 2 i already have 2 long range materia 1for Cloud and 1 for cid but I really have no use for them because the fights are never that long,but still they are good for those annoying fights were you cant reach the enemy.
Vincent's death penalty is also one of the strongest final weapons if maxed out since it auto kills nearly every enemy in the game, Including bosses thanks to the overflow glitch.
When playing ff7 remake, you have to be honest that all four have too much of a unique set up for each Aerith is op with magic Tifa can combo and increase the stagger gauge Barret hands down is the best support due to his def, hp and the abilities that help lower it And cloud is good all-round but his is hands down the best at countering and the strongest physically Ahh This makes me so hyped when seeing red, yuffie, Vincent, cait sith and cid Cause knowing from how unique each character that we have now, makes me just wonder how the others will play😍😍
Loved the video! FFVII is without one of the greatest games of all time along with one of the best in the series! I agree that Cait Sith does have mediocre stats in most categories, though he has the 3rd highest Magic Stat along with Vincent with each of them moving up to 2nd place after Aeris leaves and both have the 2nd highest Spirit stat! Cait Sith's limit breaks are difficult, but learning the pattern and practicing timing will allow one to use his Game Over limit to one shot all enemies in the game!
Cait Sith is actually the best character in the game. on a basic level, he has a very high magic stat (actually same as vincent) and good hp, so he can abuse enemy skill to sweep most fights, also gets an 8 matira slot weapon on disk 1, making him the best mage (except aries). On a more complicated level his Slots limit is abusable, you can practice it to get cait sith face every time because the slots start on the same point every time. there are tutorials on how to abuse it. He can literally win every fight in 1 hit.
Something worth remembering I think is that outside of the super bosses you can really just use whoever you want. Is Cait Sith optimal? Definitely not. But this isn't a challenging game in general so it doesn't matter too much. :)

Back when I played FF7 in the 90s, I already preferred the Cloud/Cid/Yuffie build. None of my friends used this party, preferring Barret, Tifa, or even Vincent. As a grinder, I have seen the potential of Cid and Yuffie early on. I am glad that many people use the same endgame party, which validated my earlier judgement.
The best team would be Cloud, Barret, and Yuffie for battling It’s better to go with Barret over Cid because Barret’s ultimate weapon is much stronger provided he has a materia setup with a lot of high AP materia Moreover, he’s free to use his MP however he wants while Cid wants to keep his MP filled up Barret’s Angermax also charges up much faster than Cid’s Highwind whilst dealing a similar (if not higher depending on the weapon/materia setup) amount of damage Yuffie is also chosen over Cid for similar reasons. Her ultimate weapon scales damage depending on the opponent’s level, so you’re always guaranteed to have max power against high-level opponents. Basically, you’ll have high power when you need it, you won’t have it when you don’t. Her Doom of the Living also charges up faster that Highwind meaning you’ll get more uses out of it Cloud, Cid, Yuffie is best only for Materia grinding since they have high growth weapons
DaenQuinn by that point in the game, you should already have plenty of high level materia, so loading him up with up with materia should be no issue. This is really only an issue if you don’t want to take the time to grind materia Cid’s higher magic stat doesn’t matter when you’re supposed to be keeping him at max MP to ensure max physical damage output. Cid is not meant to be your spell caster, that’s Cloud’s job That said, Barret can leave all the spell casting to both Cloud and Yuffie while also being able to use his own MP for support spells if necessary Barret’s Angermax has the same amount of hits as Cid’s Highwind and also comes with the benefit of charging up faster due to being a level 3 limit. Assuming both Barret and Cid are hitting at 9999 with each hit, this makes Barret better because he’ll be able to use his limit more often whilst dealing the exact same amount of damage Barret is also bulkier with the highest HP in the game. Giving him Cover combined with his high physical defense stat (also highest in the game) will allow him to tank all of the physical blows that are targeted towards his teammates. It synergies especially well with Cloud with his Ultima Weapon equipped since Cloud wants to keep his HP as high as possible Barret is far from useless and even if you believe him to he so he’s still not as bad as someone like Cait Sith
DaenQuinn you’re assuming I’m equipping Barret with magic materia and planning to use him as a mage You don’t have to equip magic materia onto him (you have 4 different materia types after all) and, even if you do, you don’t necessarily have to use the spells they give you. You can literally just equip the materia for the stat increases. Look at the KotR setup for example Angermax is weaker if Barret is not dealing max damage with every hit that’s true. Barret still has Catastrophe though and Catastrophe’s damage output is very close to Highwind only being about 12% weaker (Catastrophe max damage after all hits are added is 12.25 x base, Highwind max damage after all hits are added is 12.375 x base) Cloud doesn’t wanna be a magic caster either, but since has the highest magic stat (not counting Aerith of course) he’s the one who will have to be stuck with spell casting. Both Barret and Cid do more physical damage than him anyways as long as their weapons are setup properly The master materia should only go to the designated spell caster. As I said before, Barret doesn’t necessarily need to have it. Hell, he shouldn’t have it at all on his Missing Score because the master materia are among the few materia that don’t add to Barret’s power Enemy skills still use up MP, so Cid doesn’t make for a good enemy skill user either. Barret, however, can still be used to cast the defensive skills such as big guard while Cloud or Yuffie focus all their MP on launching nuke spells like Ultima I love Cid, but I prefer the overall versatility that Barret provides Other note I forgot to mention: the higher Spirit stat doesn’t matter in earlier versions of the game where Magic Defense doesn’t work, so that’s something else to consider
7:51, not true, Red XIII is the fastest 8:45 while he can share clouds 100 base attack stat it's not exactly true since he can have at minimum of 94 at level 99 while cloud's minimum is 98 10:39 also not true, he shares Aerith's high magic stat that can reach maximum of 100 for both black and white magic stats or at bare minimum 98 if for black arts or 93 for white arts.
Honestly Tifa and Cait Sith are underrated here. Their limit breaks are some of the strongest in the game, and while they do use slots, it's very easy to abuse the slots and guarantee you get what you want. The only one that is difficult is the instant kill on some enemies with Cait Sith's slots, but if I remember right there is a workaround that let's you use it when you're not supposed to be able to. Shout out to Yuffie for having one of the most influential glitches tied to her in the PC port though.
Cat is also a great mage and at the end of the day he is a character based in probabilities, i dont understand why ppl have so much hate for such a creative character, cat sith is not a main character but definetly covering that funny character very well, i love it. It is like Quina in ff 9

If you hack Aerith back in the party with game genie, you'd find her God tier with that support ability. Consider Fury Brand with omnislash and highwind...or invincibility for the whole team.
Just recently played ff7 OG and in the Shinra tower the first time you can find a megaphone in Reeves Locker... blew my mind. All these years and that little Easter egg can be found before leaving Midgar after the plate drops.. the game told us Cait was a spy that early.. wow
In the remake tifa and cloud are god tier my original ff7 team is cloud, tifa and yuffie swapping the latter with cid or red depending on if its early or late game.
I always use Vincent, but I will admit his limit breaks irritate me. If they could have just made it so you could control him or at least give him a revert option! Because once he transforms and you find out it's not good for the fight, you're stuck unless you kill this man and can bring him back to life and it's just so frustrating.
In the remake, Cloud- mystic knight dps Tifa- unadulterated dps Barret- utility Aerith- magic dps and healing But it's highly customizable. But arguably most fun to use is Tifa. Plays like a fighting game character. Like Urien from street dighter with her chi trap. I always go for a chi trap into basic combo sometime with a flurry at the end. But I always, always, always say Aegis refelctor when doing chi traps.
Same, all 3 in my opinion do attack, magic, and survival well. My first play through I went with this team till the end, once I got them all. That said, this is one of the few games where you cant really go wrong with any of the “permanent” character (except Cait Sith).
My team is cloud yuffie and cid. This party is powerful and fun. Sorry my english. Pd: yuffie's last weapon is the best, because she hit more/ lvl enemies
All the characters seem to preform equally well in most situations except Aerith and her physical attack. The early game is easy enough that you won't notice much of a difference between character stats, so it doesn't really matter who you use. If we talk about end of the game though the only things that really matter are physical attack, support magic, and multi hit limit breaks. With that in mind I would switch Tifa and Red XIII and Cait Sith and Vincent. Tifa has a higher damage output limit break, it can hit 8 times while the best Red XIII has is a 5 hit. Vincent's limit break just completely gimps his character. When it goes off you lose control of him and can no longer revive allies, cast haste, barrier, or big guard, and can't 4x cut. Also as you mentioned his ultimate weapon requires an insane grind that is not worth doing. It is a shame because he is such an awesome character. The team I used was Cloud, Cid, and Barret, because of character power, but if I were to pick based on how much I like them it would have been Cloud, Vincent, and Red XIII.
barret can also be manipulated into not only your shield (high defense/HP) but simultaneously your healer! I know it sounds weird since his magic stat sucks but grind those magic sources baby! My go to party is cloud, yuffie, and barret !
Yuffie's ultimate weapon morphing is ridiculously useful late game when you want to farm sources and her ultimate weapon damage is far more consistent than Cloud and Cid.
I agree on 5-8. I would have not included Aeris though. And for the top 4, I think Yuffie and Barret should be 1 and 2. Their limits are better because they recharge faster. And their ultimate weapons are A LOT better. The damage multiplier from Cid's and Cloud's ranges from 1 to 4 (the mechanic is really bad) while Yuffie's multiplier ranges from ~3.75 (some bosses at ~60 including Ruby, Sephiroth) to 6.1875 for Emerald at level 99.
Hmmm. I subbed... but Vincent and Barret can kill things in one hit with overflow. Also Yuffie can morph at full power. I think Cloud is 4th tbh. Top tier. The aforementioned characters GODS. Yes it takes time, but the point here was how high the ceiling can go :) and swap Cid for Barret. Barret and Yuffies best LBs are LVL3. So they come faster. No one touches Tifa tho early game. She can solo/speed run and w/o boosters she does waaaaay more damage with everyone if you grind her LBs. Her slots become muscle memory and she kinda breaks the game until you can get Cloud back after Mideel. Still a good list. And this game can still be beaten with just the attack button so I had to nerd out naturally
Agree with the mid tier and lower, and the order of them, too. I would re-arrange the top four characters somewhat, though. God Tier would be Barret and Cid, in that order. Both have 18-hit limit breaks, but Barret's is a Lv. 3, which thus charges up faster than Cid's. Yuffie and Cloud, in that order, would be Top Tier right below Barret/Cid. Both have 15-hit limit breaks, but Yuffie ranks slightly higher because hers is a Lv. 3, again charging up faster than Cloud's. If you're more casual (a.k.a. not min-maxing) then I could see putting Cid and Cloud, in that order, ahead of Barret and Yuffie, as CId/Cloud are much easier to actually max their damage at 9999 per hit on their limit breaks even on a casual playthrough.
I really thought Yuffie would be number one on the list, simply because of how absolutely broken conformer is, he can do quad 9s so early and combine with doom of the living and her speed she is an absolute DPS queen, yeah if youre talking pure end game optimization maybe others can catch up to conformer. Cool to see that my team ive always used every since the game came out you have as the most optimal team though, Yuffie Cloud Cid is god tier.
I just have Nanaki (you can call him Red XIII) in my party the whole game and rip Sephiroth a new one each time. He'll take Cloud, Tifa or Barret along just for fun but but he's got this.

I agree with the beginning part, people who have the game just scream NOSTALGIA over and over without going into detail. You really can't won with them, FFVII haters are like Freddy Krueger he has a different weaknesses each time but always comes back. For example when people say it only got popular because of FMVs, if you say "then why didn't all those Turbo Grafx CD and Sega CD games not get popular? Those even had voice acting." They'll reply with "see another way it wasn't as influential as fanboys claim". Also unrelated but Ys and The Legend of Heroes only took off in the west when they stopped using voice.acting and FMVs.
White is heals Black is damage Red is a mid level white and black mage as well as a novice warrior Blue mage uses enemy magics Green is status effects and other support Arcane normally has the offensive spells black mage doesn't. I think thats all of em
@@onmas909 my favorite mix is Red and Blue. Red uses Rapiers and Blue mages use Scimitars. Both have decent melee skills but theyre def the most versatile mages so you can do everything as those 2
I rank them by damage potential. This is interesting because with relatively easy access to stat ups especially if Yuffie has conformer or Vincent has been bulked up with lots of death blows, and everyone can use knights of the round pretty much every character can do crazy damage. 9 Caith Sith can one shot all enemies or your entire party just not great 8 Aeris same reason as this video 7 Red XIII none of his limit breaks really hit multiple times 6 Tifa her ultimate weapon makes her weaker if you use it and have recently done a limit break but just don't use it and you get to use all her limit breaks at once hitting a good number of times 5 Yuffie limit break hits multiple times as well but more than tifa minus luck if you use the right one with stat ups she hits harder her conformer makes getting stat items easy as morph now does 9999 damage 4 Cid highwind hits all enemies multiple times and does decent damage 3 Cloud Omnislash hits hard and alot it out paces knights of the round. these 2 are God tier as they are capable damage overflow and in this game unlike final fantays 6 it means instant death regardless of what you are attacking 2 Barret he is easier to get damage overflow by using missing score with all max knights of the round (i said easier not easy) Also ungermax(misstyped anger max can do ridiculous damage if you have missing score and have lots of kills on your belt. It hits hard many many many times. 1 Vincent yes he is super weak with his ultimate weapon unless he has dealt the finishing blow on many enemies but that keeps stacking up. Unlike barret who requires hero drinks and such to achieve buffer overflow vincent can do it with a normal deathblow attack and nothing else. Heck he can do it against all enemies at once with a megall deathblow preemtive combo making fights quick. I use vincnet with sneak attack deathblow combos (like 4 or 5 to guarantee) enemy lure, megaal, preemptivel and have cloud loaded with apocolypse to grow knights of the round. so Barret is being trained as well as vincent. After a while he does 9999 damage with morph and I hit up the sunken gelinka and do the same deal only now getting power guard mind and magic sources with each fight.
Tifa makes the game bareable. She's the most fun to play. All characters can be buffed as you desire and armor, accessories and materia are interchangeable, so weapons and limit breaks are the only factor as far as strategy. It really comes down to which character's story you like, and which charcters you like watching in battle. My list: God Tier = Tifa heroine, main love interest, hottest, holds party together, super complex back story, gigantic heart, gigantic uh fists, most fun summons, deathblow, manipulate, and slash all animations. Awesome = Cloud, Aerith, Barret Great = Yuffie and Cid Good = Red OK = Cait Utterly useless = Vincent Vincent has no back story and his limit breaks are enraging. He's just some shinra grunt a chick didn't find attractive. I never bother to wake him up.

This was the stupidest comment I've seen in a FF post. You lack vital info in your conclusion= source farming. Alot of people aren't going to bother (no reason to clear all content) so you are really playing overkill mode. Not only that but materia combo is where it's at. Anyways, Vincent is a great magic user and for some like me, I wouldn't even bother with the limit break. When you are using him to cast all fight he can be the go to for all of that which is fine for a game like this. Your salty comment does nothing for the validity of using a character.
@@jakea3950 Yep I agree the dumbass OP forgot about source farming doesn't know math Omnislash hits 15 times while Tifa's limit break hits a max of 7 times meaning at max meaning that Omnislash hits for a max of 149,985 while Tifa's limit 4 hits max of 69,993. Tifa's limits can miss and the higher up the more likely you are to miss and Dolphin Blow can heal as well. Barrett's Ungamax hits 18 times (179,982) and Yuffie's Doom of the Living hits 15 times and both of those are limit level 3 meaning that it takes less damage for your limit bar to completely fill up. If you source farm everyone to max stats Tifa falls behind Cloud,Cid,Barret and Yuffie. And if you can max out everyone's stats might as well throw Vincent in there because Death Penalty should be able to overflow by that point. Also his comment about Vincent was dumb as hell. Lucercia and Vincent were a couple and a pregnant Lucercia was taken by Shinra and injected with JENOVA cells. AKA Vincent is Sephiroth's father. He would have known that if he ever got him, but considering he said he never bothered him to wake him up his comments on anything about Vincent is null and void. 🎤Drop
Cloud was actually not just my damage dealer but also my physical tank with Cover, long Range and Counter Attack. It simply makes sense considering how much damage he can deal. HP Plus to round it off of course. 4xCut and Slash All are also must haves on him of course. Though you might wanna give them to Vincent too if you have him on your party. Though usually I just spam Deathblow with him. I totally agree with your opitmal party though. Cloud would be a must have regardless of wether he is the main character or not. But Barrett/Yuffie and Cid are pretty much interchangeable. Yuffie and Barrett of course do have the long range benefit over Cid. But for max damage, Cloud, Barret and Cid sure are the way to go. But for everyone who wants their fav to be on his team. Just take him. This game is pretty easy and can be beat with everyone without too much trouble. The optimal party is only really needed for the Weapons.
I mean, if we're going off of straight one-shots, Cait Sith wins every time. His one-hit KO is manipulatable and you can get it every time. Also, Vincents Overflow glitch takes unreasonably too long to set up. More reliably and easier (debatably faster too). is to run away from 1111 battles, cast Chocomog on yourself when you have max HP(It's damage is based how much you've run away). This will make your health exactly 7777, which causes that character to deal 7777 damage 64 times. This setup will remain useable every battle till you run away again, which you won't ever need to do again. You can get max hp faster by buying a bunch of HP plus materia.
Not gonna lie, though this is a perfectly acceptable list, there are other factors that can change up the where the characters lie on the list. For example, if you are going for a max stat run (morphing sources), Yuffie and Vincent both skyrocket on the list, due to ignoring all of, or most of, the morph damage reduction. Or, if you are going for a basic playthrough, with out a ton of extra grinding, or going for level 4 limits, Tifa's limit break becomes the second most powerful in the game (tied with two other limits), and thats before including the crit potential (honestly, the only reason it isn't the most powerful limit break in the game, is because of the fact that the game limits you to 9999 damage, which its fairly easy to get to with limit breaks, and her limit only has 7 attacks, compared to upwards of 15 to 18. Thats a different topic though).

the best thing about FFVII is that you can take a bad stat character - like Barret (I'll explain) - and make them into a massive asset to the team with the right materia combinations. I tend to place Red with Cloud in my stats and I usually use him or Yuffie in my team with one other...yes, Tifa. For obvious reasons. Her Limit Breaks of course, if you get them 100% right you've got the best Limit in the game bar none. I tend to place Barret at the bottom for his low magic stats and lower than average HP with abysmal Limit Breaks, Mind Blow - I know no one who ever used that limit - and he is terrible at Matiera Growth.
I like cid weapons too, but I actualy like his doublegrowth one better. He can carry 5 instead of the usual 4 others gets and it's a more efficient way usualy.
Actually I think this list might be completely wrong for true endgame, assuming all characters with max stats. Assuming max stats id wager spamming 4x slash or slash all out dps's Knights of the Round because of its super long attack animation. Assuming max speed and str a character can probably attack more then 13 times before knights of the round finishes. So in reality the real ranking is which character has the quickest attack animation.
Can't disagree more.. Cait Sith is #1 His magic stat is the same as vincent (highest except Aeris and Cloud who both you can't choose so arguably don't count), but unlike Vincent, Cait Sith actually gets good weapons for magic (gets an 8 slot matiria weapon on disk 1). That makes him the best mage in the game, and the best choice to abuse enemy skill, so even without his broken god-tier limit break he's still a good character. More importantly however, his Slots limit is simply god-tier. If you take the time to actually learn how to use it, it's a win fight button. There are tutorials here on youtube (GarlandTheGreat has a good one) that can explain it better. Oh also, you said Cloud has low magic stat, that's wrong, he has second highest, only just behind Aeris. Cloud overall has the best stats, the only reason he's not better than Cait Sith is because of how broken and abusable Slots is.
It comes down to 2 factors 1.Limit breaks 2.Weapons 1. Cid: His ultimate weapon Venus gospel deals more damage based on Cids Max MP as long as your not casting it will deal great damage, but Cid also has the Javelin a 5 slot weapon with double materia growth the best for grinding materia plus he has the Scimitar a 2 slot triple growth. His limit break highwind hits for 18 hits but it’s level 4 4. Cloud- His ultimate weapon damage is based on his HP meaning Cloud has to stay full Heath to deal max damage he also has the Apocalypse which is 3 slot triple growth one of the best weapon for grinding and his best limit beak is his level 4 omnislash 5: Aeris- It was hard to rank her since she isn’t around after disc 1, but she does have the best healing skills, her limit break great gospel is the best defensive skill in the game it heals all party’s HP,MP and bad status plus it makes you invincible for a short period Her best weapon is the princess guard it powers up when party members are dead, it’s not very useful as Aeris is a mage type character than a fighter 6: Tifa- She has the worst ultimate weapon the Premium Heart as it does more damage when Tifa limit break bar is high meaning if you want to deal more damage don’t use limit breaks, she does have better weapon choices, Power soul with death sentence combo will make Tifa a powerhouse early game plus it has double growth so it’s good for grinding materia, she also has the master fist, and God Hands which has 255% hit combine this with deathblow you have a powerful combo Her limit breaks are also bad the most hits she can do is 7 assuming you don’t miss with her slot 7: Red XIII: unfortunately it’s his limit breaks that lets him down, his best is a level 2 stardust ray hitting 10 hits His ultimate weapon is the limited moon which damage is based off his MP 8: Vincent- He has the worst limit breaks, as they put Vincent in permanent berserk and the worst thing some of his limit breaks are elemental which can heal enemies His ultimate weapon is the death penalty it deals more damage the more enemies you kill with it, even though Vincent like Barret can do the one hit glitch but Vincent death penalty takes forever to power up, if it wasn’t for this Vincent would have been the worst character in the game 9: Cait Sith- his at the bottom because his limit breaks are random, I’m not a big fan of gamblers, arguably Cait Sith can be your best character if you know how to manipulate his limit break level 2 Slot but I rather use other characters who will guarantee to damage enemies than rely on luck His best weapon is HP Shout it deals damage based on HP, it’s a shame that Cloud decided to leave Cait Sith HP Shout in the Shinra HQ locker other wise Cait Sith would have been a broken character early game
Ok, lol! CID is even better than just his triple growth weapon... he gets the only double growth weapon with 5 slots!!! Making cloud and cid the only characters with the ability to grow material at a faster rate than the equivalent of 8 materia at one time (think double growth with 4 slots = 8 total slots of growth in FF7) so clouds Apocalypse with 3, 3x slots is = to 9 total materia growth while cids double growth weapon with 5 slots is = to 10 total slots of 1x materia growth. Make sense?.. basically Cids triple growth weapon has two slots, so while better for quickly mastering a specific materia it’s not the most efficient weapon he has for materia growth over all! Great video tho!

What makes Vincent good is back row him and give depression (blue limit bar). He is a ranged tank. His limits get better once his speed is maxed out to 255 by Yuffie. What makes yuffie God teir is her unique full damage morph weapon that quickly has the entire party at max stats. Sneak attack + (anything that reduces hp enough), sneak attack + morph. Just run around the 2 areas of the submarine.
I always failed to utilize Yuffie in my multiple playthroughs of FF7. I didn't even know she was that powerful. I pretty much always went with Cloud, Cid and Red XIII as my late game party. Red's final limit break is pretty useless if I remember correctly, but the other of his third limit breaks is good for damage.
The coolest characters are barrett and cid. A toxically masculine black guy and a toxically masculine white guy. Now we have four metrosexuals in a car in ffxv. Barret and Sid would have finished that quest in a few hours
I’d put Vincent where Cait Sith is when factoring in slot control.. no need to reset your system for hours to beat ruby.. just stop the reel with square and tap constantly.. you’ll see what’s happening.. and choose the slots you want!.. it really makes him the most broken character for wrecking everything, but who awaits to cheese through a fun game?

Fury Brand is a level 2 limit which means towards the end of the game, she could be giving her allies their level 4 limits nearly every fight. Not to even mention Great Gospel.
Aerith *had* to die for the second half of the game to be remotely challenging.
This is surprisingly not true. You can test this by keeping her in your party for the entire game with the Yuffie Warp glitch. Her low HP / defense really start to offset her usefulness for random encounters, but she doesn't dominate bosses either because it's better to use all the broken attacking skills. Having played her multiple runs while beating the game's mechanics to death, she ends up around mid tier above Red XIII
The clip of Tifa kicking ass in the church in Advent Children gave me chills.

In trailer yes, but they did her dirty in the movie. Relegated to the side narratively and not even given a rematch with Loz. That movie was a total letdown in general. Thankfully Tifa is AMAZING in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Finally given the respect she deserves.

Vincent is awesome for a casual gameplay. Use it as you primary mage/healer due to high magic stat. There are a lot of powerful magic/summon kn the game such as ultima. He has long range weapon too, so you can put him in the back row while receiving much less damage
And if you don't want to lose access to regular attacks and spells with his limit break, just give him deathblow. His longbarrel weapon has eight linked slots and never misses. Load him down with summons because he's the best caster (that you can keep anyway.) If his MP run out, pop that limit and use that instead, and the lowered HP from the summons won't matter anymore either.

They probably didn't answer them very good. The video has several mistakes, like calling Vincent the second best magic user (he is tied with Cait Sith as the third best, behind Cloud and Aerith), or calling Tifa a good mage, as even at the beggining she is behind the two best users, and she only surpases Cid and Barret, her specialties are hitting fast and hard, and even then she is the third in both categories (Cloud and Barret are stronger than her, Red XIII and Yuffie are faster than her), but her limits are actually quite good at the beggining, and it's only when the other characters begin to get their level 3 limits when she starts to lag behind those with really good level 3 limits).
She IS mid tier, mind you, but the video contains mistakes about her, as the only things that really keeps her from being stronger than that is that her limit break can only potentially hit seven times (against things like Omnislash or Highwind, which launches at least 15 attacks) and her ultimate weapon is hit or miss, if she has her limit bar full (or almost) she is easily going to do 9999 damage, but if it is almost empty she'll be lucky if she reaches 4000 damage. Those are just some examples of things the video didn't get right, I'll have to see just how many more mistakes it contains that I can catch (I may very well miss some of them)
@@lenlimbo and then again you can always farm powersources/equip championbelt to make your favorite characters stronger and with the slot trick Tifa can get hits all the time if timed right,but still no more than 7 hits.
If you want a Tifa powerhouse use 4-cut ,added cut +mime later on .
And yes cids "highwind" and Barrets ungermax can be more powerful then omnislash when character are beefed up to 255 strength.
@@danhaden9933 IIRC, Tifa's overflow glitch involves her... was it the Soul Fist? The one that multiplies her attack power with every condition she suffers, the cursed ring and enough strenght to reach, with the multiplier, beyond what the game can manage. I wasn't talking about advanced strategies and special settings, just what a normal player would find in a normal playthrough. 4-cut, added cut and mime aren't exactly your average character settings XD

There is a way around it and it's kind of game-breaking. If you use Phoenix with Final Attack materia, then you will strike back harder than the Empire.
In-universe, limit breaks are tied to anger level. So the party members get furious that Cait Sith just killed them lol

Vincent's Death Penalty and Barrett's Missing Score are the only weapons in the whole game that can do the overflow glitch that does enough damage to 1-shot anything, even Emerald Weapon, except for Ruby and Safer Sephiroth because their defense is insane. If it weren't for his berserk limit breaks I'd put him a few tiers higher

It should be mentioned that because Barret/Yuffie/Vincent use ranged weapons, they can be placed in the back row for half damage while still performing full damage to opponents.

@dan haden Although that's true, you'll probably only have one Long Range materia for most of the game. So not everyone will be able to use it, just one character (probably Cloud). So if the other two party members are naturally long ranged, your entire team can fight in the back row.
@@fancyesquire8888 well I am a grinder and FF7 fanatic and usually get omnislash in disc 1 so by the time i am in disc 2 i already have 2 long range materia 1for Cloud and 1 for cid but I really have no use for them because the fights are never that long,but still they are good for those annoying fights were you cant reach the enemy.
Vincent's death penalty is also one of the strongest final weapons if maxed out since it auto kills nearly every enemy in the game, Including bosses thanks to the overflow glitch.
Didn't mention that Yuffies Comformer has full damage when she uses morph making her easily god tier when it comes to farming items

Loved the video! FFVII is without one of the greatest games of all time along with one of the best in the series! I agree that Cait Sith does have mediocre stats in most categories, though he has the 3rd highest Magic Stat along with Vincent with each of them moving up to 2nd place after Aeris leaves and both have the 2nd highest Spirit stat! Cait Sith's limit breaks are difficult, but learning the pattern and practicing timing will allow one to use his Game Over limit to one shot all enemies in the game!

Cait Sith is actually the best character in the game. on a basic level, he has a very high magic stat (actually same as vincent) and good hp, so he can abuse enemy skill to sweep most fights, also gets an 8 matira slot weapon on disk 1, making him the best mage (except aries). On a more complicated level his Slots limit is abusable, you can practice it to get cait sith face every time because the slots start on the same point every time. there are tutorials on how to abuse it. He can literally win every fight in 1 hit.

Back when I played FF7 in the 90s, I already preferred the Cloud/Cid/Yuffie build. None of my friends used this party, preferring Barret, Tifa, or even Vincent. As a grinder, I have seen the potential of Cid and Yuffie early on. I am glad that many people use the same endgame party, which validated my earlier judgement.
I decided to try Cid, and when he did 2x the damage of all my other characters, I decided to keep him
The best team would be Cloud, Barret, and Yuffie for battling
It’s better to go with Barret over Cid because Barret’s ultimate weapon is much stronger provided he has a materia setup with a lot of high AP materia
Moreover, he’s free to use his MP however he wants while Cid wants to keep his MP filled up
Barret’s Angermax also charges up much faster than Cid’s Highwind whilst dealing a similar (if not higher depending on the weapon/materia setup) amount of damage
Yuffie is also chosen over Cid for similar reasons. Her ultimate weapon scales damage depending on the opponent’s level, so you’re always guaranteed to have max power against high-level opponents. Basically, you’ll have high power when you need it, you won’t have it when you don’t. Her Doom of the Living also charges up faster that Highwind meaning you’ll get more uses out of it
Cloud, Cid, Yuffie is best only for Materia grinding since they have high growth weapons
DaenQuinn by that point in the game, you should already have plenty of high level materia, so loading him up with up with materia should be no issue. This is really only an issue if you don’t want to take the time to grind materia
Cid’s higher magic stat doesn’t matter when you’re supposed to be keeping him at max MP to ensure max physical damage output. Cid is not meant to be your spell caster, that’s Cloud’s job
That said, Barret can leave all the spell casting to both Cloud and Yuffie while also being able to use his own MP for support spells if necessary
Barret’s Angermax has the same amount of hits as Cid’s Highwind and also comes with the benefit of charging up faster due to being a level 3 limit. Assuming both Barret and Cid are hitting at 9999 with each hit, this makes Barret better because he’ll be able to use his limit more often whilst dealing the exact same amount of damage
Barret is also bulkier with the highest HP in the game. Giving him Cover combined with his high physical defense stat (also highest in the game) will allow him to tank all of the physical blows that are targeted towards his teammates. It synergies especially well with Cloud with his Ultima Weapon equipped since Cloud wants to keep his HP as high as possible
Barret is far from useless and even if you believe him to he so he’s still not as bad as someone like Cait Sith

You don’t have to equip magic materia onto him (you have 4 different materia types after all) and, even if you do, you don’t necessarily have to use the spells they give you. You can literally just equip the materia for the stat increases. Look at the KotR setup for example
Angermax is weaker if Barret is not dealing max damage with every hit that’s true. Barret still has Catastrophe though and Catastrophe’s damage output is very close to Highwind only being about 12% weaker (Catastrophe max damage after all hits are added is 12.25 x base, Highwind max damage after all hits are added is 12.375 x base)
Cloud doesn’t wanna be a magic caster either, but since has the highest magic stat (not counting Aerith of course) he’s the one who will have to be stuck with spell casting. Both Barret and Cid do more physical damage than him anyways as long as their weapons are setup properly
The master materia should only go to the designated spell caster. As I said before, Barret doesn’t necessarily need to have it. Hell, he shouldn’t have it at all on his Missing Score because the master materia are among the few materia that don’t add to Barret’s power
Enemy skills still use up MP, so Cid doesn’t make for a good enemy skill user either. Barret, however, can still be used to cast the defensive skills such as big guard while Cloud or Yuffie focus all their MP on launching nuke spells like Ultima
I love Cid, but I prefer the overall versatility that Barret provides
Other note I forgot to mention: the higher Spirit stat doesn’t matter in earlier versions of the game where Magic Defense doesn’t work, so that’s something else to consider

8:45 while he can share clouds 100 base attack stat it's not exactly true since he can have at minimum of 94 at level 99 while cloud's minimum is 98
10:39 also not true, he shares Aerith's high magic stat that can reach maximum of 100 for both black and white magic stats or at bare minimum 98 if for black arts or 93 for white arts.
Spirit isn't even what white magic use in this game, it's just magic defense, so Cloud can have a minimum of 98 for both kind of magics.

Honestly Tifa and Cait Sith are underrated here. Their limit breaks are some of the strongest in the game, and while they do use slots, it's very easy to abuse the slots and guarantee you get what you want. The only one that is difficult is the instant kill on some enemies with Cait Sith's slots, but if I remember right there is a workaround that let's you use it when you're not supposed to be able to. Shout out to Yuffie for having one of the most influential glitches tied to her in the PC port though.

Just recently played ff7 OG and in the Shinra tower the first time you can find a megaphone in Reeves Locker... blew my mind. All these years and that little Easter egg can be found before leaving Midgar after the plate drops.. the game told us Cait was a spy that early.. wow

In the remake tifa and cloud are god tier my original ff7 team is cloud, tifa and yuffie swapping the latter with cid or red depending on if its early or late game.
I always use Vincent, but I will admit his limit breaks irritate me. If they could have just made it so you could control him or at least give him a revert option! Because once he transforms and you find out it's not good for the fight, you're stuck unless you kill this man and can bring him back to life and it's just so frustrating.
In the remake,

Barret- utility
Aerith- magic dps and healing
But it's highly customizable. But arguably most fun to use is Tifa. Plays like a fighting game character. Like Urien from street dighter with her chi trap. I always go for a chi trap into basic combo sometime with a flurry at the end. But I always, always, always say Aegis refelctor when doing chi traps.
I used cloud red Xlll and yuffie
also, Tifa with slot cheesing you get to just have consecutive attacks which is one of the biggest factors until you get 2x cut etc

Same, all 3 in my opinion do attack, magic, and survival well. My first play through I went with this team till the end, once I got them all.
That said, this is one of the few games where you cant really go wrong with any of the “permanent” character (except Cait Sith).
My team is cloud yuffie and cid. This party is powerful and fun. Sorry my english.

All the characters seem to preform equally well in most situations except Aerith and her physical attack. The early game is easy enough that you won't notice much of a difference between character stats, so it doesn't really matter who you use. If we talk about end of the game though the only things that really matter are physical attack, support magic, and multi hit limit breaks. With that in mind I would switch Tifa and Red XIII and Cait Sith and Vincent. Tifa has a higher damage output limit break, it can hit 8 times while the best Red XIII has is a 5 hit. Vincent's limit break just completely gimps his character. When it goes off you lose control of him and can no longer revive allies, cast haste, barrier, or big guard, and can't 4x cut. Also as you mentioned his ultimate weapon requires an insane grind that is not worth doing. It is a shame because he is such an awesome character.
The team I used was Cloud, Cid, and Barret, because of character power, but if I were to pick based on how much I like them it would have been Cloud, Vincent, and Red XIII.
barret can also be manipulated into not only your shield (high defense/HP) but simultaneously your healer! I know it sounds weird since his magic stat sucks but grind those magic sources baby! My go to party is cloud, yuffie, and barret !
Yuffie's ultimate weapon morphing is ridiculously useful late game when you want to farm sources and her ultimate weapon damage is far more consistent than Cloud and Cid.

I agree on 5-8. I would have not included Aeris though. And for the top 4, I think Yuffie and Barret should be 1 and 2. Their limits are better because they recharge faster. And their ultimate weapons are A LOT better. The damage multiplier from Cid's and Cloud's ranges from 1 to 4 (the mechanic is really bad) while Yuffie's multiplier ranges from ~3.75 (some bosses at ~60 including Ruby, Sephiroth) to 6.1875 for Emerald at level 99.
Hmmm. I subbed... but Vincent and Barret can kill things in one hit with overflow. Also Yuffie can morph at full power. I think Cloud is 4th tbh. Top tier. The aforementioned characters GODS. Yes it takes time, but the point here was how high the ceiling can go :) and swap Cid for Barret. Barret and Yuffies best LBs are LVL3. So they come faster. No one touches Tifa tho early game. She can solo/speed run and w/o boosters she does waaaaay more damage with everyone if you grind her LBs. Her slots become muscle memory and she kinda breaks the game until you can get Cloud back after Mideel. Still a good list. Agree with the mid tier and lower, and the order of them, too.
I would re-arrange the top four characters somewhat, though. God Tier would be Barret and Cid, in that order. Both have 18-hit limit breaks, but Barret's is a Lv. 3, which thus charges up faster than Cid's.
Yuffie and Cloud, in that order, would be Top Tier right below Barret/Cid. Both have 15-hit limit breaks, but Yuffie ranks slightly higher because hers is a Lv. 3, again charging up faster than Cloud's.
If you're more casual (a.k.a. not min-maxing) then I could see putting Cid and Cloud, in that order, ahead of Barret and Yuffie, as CId/Cloud are much easier to actually max their damage at 9999 per hit on their limit breaks even on a casual playthrough.
I think the only thing (apart from accessories like hypno crown) affecting mug and manipulate success rates is character level.
I really thought Yuffie would be number one on the list, simply because of how absolutely broken conformer is, he can do quad 9s so early and combine with doom of the living and her speed she is an absolute DPS queen, yeah if youre talking pure end game optimization maybe others can catch up to conformer. Cool to see that my team ive always used every since the game came out you have as the most optimal team though, Yuffie Cloud Cid is god tier.
Yuffie was easily the most powerful in the original. Her limit break hit far more times than omnislash and Yuffie could deal 9999 just like cloud.
Yuffie has a lot more utility than Barrett. Also has a double weapon with 4 slots that can use blue abilities
I just have Nanaki (you can call him Red XIII) in my party the whole game and rip Sephiroth a new one each time. He'll take Cloud, Tifa or Barret along just for fun but but he's got this.
Nanaki and Tifa ftw 👍👍 they're both interesting, likable characters that add way more depth to the game 🤗

I agree with the beginning part, people who have the game just scream NOSTALGIA over and over without going into detail. You really can't won with them, FFVII haters are like Freddy Krueger he has a different weaknesses each time but always comes back. For example when people say it only got popular because of FMVs, if you say "then why didn't all those Turbo Grafx CD and Sega CD games not get popular? Those even had voice acting." They'll reply with "see another way it wasn't as influential as fanboys claim".
Also unrelated but Ys and The Legend of Heroes only took off in the west when they stopped using voice.acting and FMVs.

White is heals
Black is damage
Red is a mid level white and black mage as well as a novice warrior
Blue mage uses enemy magics
Green is status effects and other support
Arcane normally has the offensive spells black mage doesn't.

@@onmas909 my favorite mix is Red and Blue. Red uses Rapiers and Blue mages use Scimitars. Both have decent melee skills but theyre def the most versatile mages so you can do everything as those 2
I rank them by damage potential. This is interesting because with relatively easy access to stat ups especially if Yuffie has conformer or Vincent has been bulked up with lots of death blows, and everyone can use knights of the round pretty much every character can do crazy damage.
9 Caith Sith can one shot all enemies or your entire party just not great

7 Red XIII none of his limit breaks really hit multiple times
6 Tifa her ultimate weapon makes her weaker if you use it and have recently done a limit break but just don't use it and you get to use all her limit breaks at once hitting a good number of times
5 Yuffie limit break hits multiple times as well but more than tifa minus luck if you use the right one with stat ups she hits harder her conformer makes getting stat items easy as morph now does 9999 damage
4 Cid highwind hits all enemies multiple times and does decent damage
3 Cloud Omnislash hits hard and alot it out paces knights of the round.
these 2 are God tier as they are capable damage overflow and in this game unlike final fantays 6 it means instant death regardless of what you are attacking
2 Barret he is easier to get damage overflow by using missing score with all max knights of the round (i said easier not easy) Also ungermax(misstyped anger max can do ridiculous damage if you have missing score and have lots of kills on your belt. It hits hard many many many times.
1 Vincent yes he is super weak with his ultimate weapon unless he has dealt the finishing blow on many enemies but that keeps stacking up. Unlike barret who requires hero drinks and such to achieve buffer overflow vincent can do it with a normal deathblow attack and nothing else. Heck he can do it against all enemies at once with a megall deathblow preemtive combo making fights quick. I use vincnet with sneak attack deathblow combos (like 4 or 5 to guarantee) enemy lure, megaal, preemptivel and have cloud loaded with apocolypse to grow knights of the round. so Barret is being trained as well as vincent. After a while he does 9999 damage with morph and I hit up the sunken gelinka and do the same deal only now getting power guard mind and magic sources with each fight.
What actually makes Vincent a vampire? Sure he has the aesthetic and is first found inside a coffin. However, I've never seen him drink blood.
Tifa makes the game bareable. She's the most fun to play.
All characters can be buffed as you desire and armor, accessories and materia are interchangeable, so weapons and limit breaks are the only factor as far as strategy.
It really comes down to which character's story you like, and which charcters you like watching in battle.
My list:
God Tier = Tifa
heroine, main love interest, hottest, holds party together, super complex back story, gigantic heart, gigantic uh fists, most fun summons, deathblow, manipulate, and slash all animations.
Awesome = Cloud, Aerith, Barret
Great = Yuffie and Cid
Good = Red
OK = Cait
Utterly useless = Vincent
Vincent has no back story and his limit breaks are enraging. He's just some shinra grunt a chick didn't find attractive. I never bother to wake him up.
I agree tifa makes this game so much better she is easy the best character in the game and maybe the entire franchise cant wait to see her in the remake
This was the stupidest comment I've seen in a FF post. You lack vital info in your conclusion= source farming. Alot of people aren't going to bother (no reason to clear all content) so you are really playing overkill mode. Not only that but materia combo is where it's at.
Anyways, Vincent is a great magic user and for some like me, I wouldn't even bother with the limit break. When you are using him to cast all fight he can be the go to for all of that which is fine for a game like this. Your salty comment does nothing for the validity of using a character.

@@jakea3950 Yep I agree the dumbass OP forgot about source farming doesn't know math Omnislash hits 15 times while Tifa's limit break hits a max of 7 times meaning at max meaning that Omnislash hits for a max of 149,985 while Tifa's limit 4 hits max of 69,993. Tifa's limits can miss and the higher up the more likely you are to miss and Dolphin Blow can heal as well. Barrett's Ungamax hits 18 times (179,982) and Yuffie's Doom of the Living hits 15 times and both of those are limit level 3 meaning that it takes less damage for your limit bar to completely fill up. If you source farm everyone to max stats Tifa falls behind Cloud,Cid,Barret and Yuffie. And if you can max out everyone's stats might as well throw Vincent in there because Death Penalty should be able to overflow by that point.
Also his comment about Vincent was dumb as hell. Lucercia and Vincent were a couple and a pregnant Lucercia was taken by Shinra and injected with JENOVA cells. AKA Vincent is Sephiroth's father. He would have known that if he ever got him, but considering he said he never bothered him to wake him up his comments on anything about Vincent is null and void.

Cloud was actually not just my damage dealer but also my physical tank with Cover, long Range and Counter Attack. It simply makes sense considering how much damage he can deal. HP Plus to round it off of course. 4xCut and Slash All are also must haves on him of course. Though you might wanna give them to Vincent too if you have him on your party. Though usually I just spam Deathblow with him. I totally agree with your opitmal party though. Cloud would be a must have regardless of wether he is the main character or not. But Barrett/Yuffie and Cid are pretty much interchangeable. Yuffie and Barrett of course do have the long range benefit over Cid. But for max damage, Cloud, Barret and Cid sure are the way to go. But for everyone who wants their fav to be on his team. Just take him. This game is pretty easy and can be beat with everyone without too much trouble. The optimal party is only really needed for the Weapons.
Remember Vincent can overflow with the death penalty
I mean, if we're going off of straight one-shots, Cait Sith wins every time. His one-hit KO is manipulatable and you can get it every time. Also, Vincents Overflow glitch takes unreasonably too long to set up. More reliably and easier (debatably faster too). is to run away from 1111 battles, cast Chocomog on yourself when you have max HP(It's damage is based how much you've run away). This will make your health exactly 7777, which causes that character to deal 7777 damage 64 times. This setup will remain useable every battle till you run away again, which you won't ever need to do again. You can get max hp faster by buying a bunch of HP plus materia.

Not gonna lie, though this is a perfectly acceptable list, there are other factors that can change up the where the characters lie on the list. For example, if you are going for a max stat run (morphing sources), Yuffie and Vincent both skyrocket on the list, due to ignoring all of, or most of, the morph damage reduction. Or, if you are going for a basic playthrough, with out a ton of extra grinding, or going for level 4 limits, Tifa's limit break becomes the second most powerful in the game (tied with two other limits), and thats before including the crit potential (honestly, the only reason it isn't the most powerful limit break in the game, is because of the fact that the game limits you to 9999 damage, which its fairly easy to get to with limit breaks, and her limit only has 7 attacks, compared to upwards of 15 to 18. Thats a different topic though).

the best thing about FFVII is that you can take a bad stat character - like Barret (I'll explain) - and make them into a massive asset to the team with the right materia combinations.
I tend to place Red with Cloud in my stats and I usually use him or Yuffie in my team with one other...yes, Tifa. For obvious reasons. Her Limit Breaks of course, if you get them 100% right you've got the best Limit in the game bar none.
I tend to place Barret at the bottom for his low magic stats and lower than average HP with abysmal Limit Breaks, Mind Blow - I know no one who ever used that limit - and he is terrible at Matiera Growth.
Vincent saved me so many time, he can't be a low list
I like cid weapons too, but I actualy like his doublegrowth one better. He can carry 5 instead of the usual 4 others gets and it's a more efficient way usualy.
Actually I think this list might be completely wrong for true endgame, assuming all characters with max stats. Assuming max stats id wager spamming 4x slash or slash all out dps's Knights of the Round because of its super long attack animation. Assuming max speed and str a character can probably attack more then 13 times before knights of the round finishes. So in reality the real ranking is which character has the quickest attack animation.
Can't disagree more.. Cait Sith is #1
His magic stat is the same as vincent (highest except Aeris and Cloud who both you can't choose so arguably don't count), but unlike Vincent, Cait Sith actually gets good weapons for magic (gets an 8 slot matiria weapon on disk 1). That makes him the best mage in the game, and the best choice to abuse enemy skill, so even without his broken god-tier limit break he's still a good character.
More importantly however, his Slots limit is simply god-tier. If you take the time to actually learn how to use it, it's a win fight button. There are tutorials here on youtube (GarlandTheGreat has a good one) that can explain it better.
Oh also, you said Cloud has low magic stat, that's wrong, he has second highest, only just behind Aeris. Cloud overall has the best stats, the only reason he's not better than Cait Sith is because of how broken and abusable Slots is.
It comes down to 2 factors 1.Limit breaks 2.Weapons
1. Barret: Has the best ultimate weapon the missing score the more AP the more powerful the weapon as a bonus its long range plus he can deal the one hit glitch, has a 18 hit limit break Angermax at level 3 meaning his limit break will charge faster than level 4
2. Yuffie- she has the second best ultimate weapon, the conformer has no damage penalty it will always deal great damage even with morphing enemies making Yuffie essential for grinding for sauces as a bonus her weapon is long range and she has a limit break doom of the living which deals 15 hits and it’s a level 3 limit break
3. Cid: His ultimate weapon Venus gospel deals more damage based on Cids Max MP as long as your not casting it will deal great damage, but Cid also has the Javelin a 5 slot weapon with double materia growth the best for grinding materia plus he has the Scimitar a 2 slot triple growth. His limit break highwind hits for 18 hits but it’s level 4
4. Cloud- His ultimate weapon damage is based on his HP meaning Cloud has to stay full Heath to deal max damage he also has the Apocalypse which is 3 slot triple growth one of the best weapon for grinding and his best limit beak is his level 4 omnislash
5: Aeris- It was hard to rank her since she isn’t around after disc 1, but she does have the best healing skills, her limit break great gospel is the best defensive skill in the game it heals all party’s HP,MP and bad status plus it makes you invincible for a short period
Her best weapon is the princess guard it powers up when party members are dead, it’s not very useful as Aeris is a mage type character than a fighter
6: Tifa- She has the worst ultimate weapon the Premium Heart as it does more damage when Tifa limit break bar is high meaning if you want to deal more damage don’t use limit breaks, she does have better weapon choices, Power soul with death sentence combo will make Tifa a powerhouse early game plus it has double growth so it’s good for grinding materia, she also has the master fist, and God Hands which has 255% hit combine this with deathblow you have a powerful combo
Her limit breaks are also bad the most hits she can do is 7 assuming you don’t miss with her slot
7: Red XIII: unfortunately it’s his limit breaks that lets him down, his best is a level 2 stardust ray hitting 10 hits
His ultimate weapon is the limited moon which damage is based off his MP
8: Vincent- He has the worst limit breaks, as they put Vincent in permanent berserk and the worst thing some of his limit breaks are elemental which can heal enemies
His ultimate weapon is the death penalty it deals more damage the more enemies you kill with it, even though Vincent like Barret can do the one hit glitch but Vincent death penalty takes forever to power up, if it wasn’t for this Vincent would have been the worst character in the game
9: Cait Sith- his at the bottom because his limit breaks are random, I’m not a big fan of gamblers, arguably Cait Sith can be your best character if you know how to manipulate his limit break level 2 Slot but I rather use other characters who will guarantee to damage enemies than rely on luck
His best weapon is HP Shout it deals damage based on HP, it’s a shame that Cloud decided to leave Cait Sith HP Shout in the Shinra HQ locker other wise Cait Sith would have been a broken character early game
My party was cloud, tifa, red. Red has good magic and very high HP. I give him counter so he gets attacks while also being my magic tank.

All stats can be maxed to 255. Yuffie has the conformer to morph stat sources. Now the difference leaves to weapon and limit breaks.
Ok, lol! CID is even better than just his triple growth weapon... he gets the only double growth weapon with 5 slots!!! Making cloud and cid the only characters with the ability to grow material at a faster rate than the equivalent of 8 materia at one time (think double growth with 4 slots = 8 total slots of growth in FF7) so clouds Apocalypse with 3, 3x slots is = to 9 total materia growth while cids double growth weapon with 5 slots is = to 10 total slots of 1x materia growth. Make sense?.. basically Cids triple growth weapon has two slots, so while better for quickly mastering a specific materia it’s not the most efficient weapon he has for materia growth over all!

Aerith = Sage
Tifa = Monk
Barret = Warrior
Red = White Mage
Yuffie = Thief
Cait Sith = Blue Mage
Vincent = Black Mage
Cid = Dragoon
I think Vincent is a bit underrated. Sniper CR gives a guaranteed hit with deathblow so he can hit quite hard and not just be a mage.
Tifa with God Hand also gets guaranteed Deathblow, though.

Tifa is Gof Tier for me. She killed Safer Sephiroth with her limit break on the 1st move my 1st time finishing the game

When I was younger I allways played cloud nanaki and barret . But later on I also used Vincent and Cid . If you know how the game works everybody can be usefull

What makes Vincent good is back row him and give depression (blue limit bar). He is a ranged tank. His limits get better once his speed is maxed out to 255 by Yuffie.
What makes yuffie God teir is her unique full damage morph weapon that quickly has the entire party at max stats. Sneak attack + (anything that reduces hp enough), sneak attack + morph. Just run around the 2 areas of the submarine.
I beat the game with Caitsith in the main party twice

I always failed to utilize Yuffie in my multiple playthroughs of FF7. I didn't even know she was that powerful. I pretty much always went with Cloud, Cid and Red XIII as my late game party. Red's final limit break is pretty useless if I remember correctly, but the other of his third limit breaks is good for damage.

The coolest characters are barrett and cid. A toxically masculine black guy and a toxically masculine white guy. Now we have four metrosexuals in a car in ffxv. Barret and Sid would have finished that quest in a few hours

I’d put Vincent where Cait Sith is when factoring in slot control.. no need to reset your system for hours to beat ruby.. just stop the reel with square and tap constantly.. you’ll see what’s happening.. and choose the slots you want!.. it really makes him the most broken character for wrecking everything, but who awaits to cheese through a fun game?
