  • This video is about Floortom Hacks. More specifically it’s about manipulating the sustain of your floortom without any tuning or muffling.
I did not include things like cottonballs inside the drum to muffle the bottomhead or taping some fabric to the inside of the drum shell to eliminate sound reflections - both methods work beautifully, though. However, this stuff includes taking of a drumhead first so it’s not very fast and also not very versatile (since you can’t fine-tune the hack very well and you also can’t get the sound back to „normal“ easily).
We talk about the Pearl R-40/3 Air Suspension Rubber Feet for more sustain and reversing floortom legs/putting weight on the floortom for less sustain.
Somehow, I messed the sound up a little bit and I’m very sorry for that. So you will hear random clicking noises, I sincerely hope you’ll get over it and enjoy this video anyways.

I carry a piece of carpet around to put my floor tom on. That works very well in all situations..

Dig it. To be honest, I actually wonder why there's still no major company selling overpriced pieces of "specially designed" carpet "for maximum sustain" under a ridiculous brand name. 😄 Just out of curiosity: did you ever try the suspension floor tom feet?

@@drum_hacks No, Just learned about the feet from you. The carpet actually helps me reduce sustain as opposed to a concrete or hard floor. Before the carpet, I ran a 2" strip of felt across the lower 1/3 of my tom right under the batter head but that's the sound I like. I do a lot af tom work and don't like the sustain running all the notes together. 👍
