  • This is a step-by-step drum tuning tutorial for beginners and for people, who have a hard time evening out pitches on a drumhead. If you're new to drum tuning, you'll find a thorough walkthrough from setting up a comfortable drum tuning environment to changing a drumhead and leveling it. If you already know this stuff and "only" struggle with hearing and comparing the pitch of individual lugs, then skip right to STEP 6.
I show you different ways to hear the fundamental note of a drumhead more clearly and how to compare and even out pitch, even if you have no idea which pitch is actually higher or lower. After you learned how to get a single drumhead in tune with itself, I show you how to get both drumheads to the same pitch. This is one specific tuning method (which is actually used by tons of people) and it's also pretty great for getting your basic drum tuning skills down.
After the tutorial itself we dive a little bit deeper into fundamentals and overtones, since this is the stuff that throws most people of.
If you managed to gain some experience and feel comfortable with getting both drumheads to the same pitch, you should definitive watch the second part of this drum tuning tutorial ( • Drum Tuning Tutorial (... ). We'll talk about different relationships between both drumheads and how to enhance specific sound characteristics like attack, sustain, projection and even pitchbend.

Nice video! A lot of good tips in a situational context, tons of useful information. And the comparison and “random direction”, plus really tiny changes between tests is excellent advice!
