- This is how thieves will try to steal your Transit Van. Is Your Transit safe? Protect your van.
Two easy steps to stop your Transit being stolen.
Data Link Connector DLC. This is the multi-pin diagnostic connection port for cars, vans and motorcycles.
Rear door wiring loom.
Hi everyone, I am an ordinary guy that has a passion for cars, vehicles, vans, motorcycles, basically anything that you can put fuel into. I am a self taught mechanic and have learnt and gained so much knowledge over the past 20 years. I would like to pass all this onto yourselves and help as many people as I can, so you can avoid the expense of car garages and dealerships. #keepitsimple
Hope You Learn Something

I like moving the port to behind a screwed panel. Then for a giggle I like to wire one up in original location with a 40amp supply to every pin but earth!
Yep this is exactly how our transit got stollen under my watch a few yrs ago. Was full of drums and instruments. ALL the metal instruments were obviously scrapped the rest was dumped and later found. Your vids helped us secure our new van to the hilt! Thank you.
i bet the 4 people who didnt like this are the van pinchers
Excellent video! And great to see one where the person isn't trying to sell you something! 👍☘️
Got mine broken into last night, smashed the drivers window but I think the ice on the windows stopped them from seeing my steering lock. It Saved my van I reckon, I’ll be cutting that obd out tomorrow, big thanks for this video.
Thanks for a really useful tip, nice to know there is a good guy out there .
Great vid cheers. 👍 right to the point with no UA-cam BS.
Thank you.
I have been looking for a simple solution for weeks.
Thanks for putting this out!! I'm a solo vanlifer in the U.S. who just got a transit and videos like these could literally save my life (or just my home lol). I'd love to see a more in-depth tutorial on the back door steel plate, if you could show us how you installed it from the inside!
I have had extra security locks fitted on every door including the cab which are made from hardened steel so really difficult to drill out and they have a guard fitted on the inside to stop the doors being crow bar opened. Mine is the only transit on my whole estate not to have been broken into so far
Good video, informative. Removing the dlc is a good idea. Although I may suggest using a single multi pin connector for ease of removal/installation.
I would also recommend people think of the good old fashioned “hidden kill switch”. You just need to prevent power going to one of the many important places and it simply won’t run new key or not. Easy enough to hide a switch in a transit.
Wish i had seen this before mine was nicked. Handy for next van. Thanks
My transit custom got took last night with all equipment in it a week before xmas self employed.
Brilliant video thanks. My mates van was stolen yesterday with 3ks worth of fucking tools. Gonna sort my van
Useful info and thanks for that.
Really good video .thanks.
Had mine broken into right outside my house, don’t know how but not like this. They had my everyday tools in a tote & a few other bits but didn’t take the van. Luckily got some money back off the firm’s insurance. The firm wouldn’t allow us to fit any extra security either!
Gosh! THANKYOU.
Thank you so much, take care, and God bless.
Thank you for your feedback 👍🏻
Gr8 vid cheers 👍👍
everytime i pressed my lock button on my keys all the doors would lock then immedialty unlock it was beacuse my wire loom was cut this way there was nothing in my van was lucky ill be doing this upgrade thanks alot (except it was on the drivers side back door not the passenger side one on yours basically the side with the locking mecanisum)
An aftermarket steering wheel with a quick release boss kit would be good.
Or a hidden kill switch on fuel pump
Nice one thanks
great video
Hi John
Good advice and a very good video …………Top Man. I wanted to wire mine up to 240v mains….. but Mr Plod said good idea but no you cannot.
I believe in multiple layers of security is best. I have rigged up a wi fi security camera which will detect a potential tow rag thief and will set off an alarm straight to my mobile phone.
I guess there is always the nagging doubt about this information falling into the wrong hands………….but don’t worry they already know of all of these tricks but with layers of security the longer you can keep them busy sorting them all out…………you will have more time to detect and hopefully be able to catch them red handed.
Kind regards and Thank You once again.
Respect buddy I own 3 transits so all good to knkw..
Good info.
Have you looked into changing the tibbe locks? I guess thats another problem.
I agree with you on having the OBD port / DLC as you call it disconnected , I have done that to mine , but i used proper connectors , good video , Cheers
hi which connectors did you use
Normal 6or 8 pin car type, but you need a crimper for them
Crimp Terminals Spade Connectors Male & Female , but you need the crimping tool , think i paid £9 for my tool
@@johnwilmot5764 yes i have the tool but i'm thinking of a multi plug thanks for the info
Yes a multi plug , you still need a special crimper , not the standard red blue and yellow tool used for the video above, Like this but at least 6 or 8 pins, eBay item number:123850813565
Hi mate, thanks so much for this information!
Really appreciate the fact that you are making people aware of these things so we can all be better prepared.
Was just wondering, as I dont know what to search for, have you any links to the steel plate to protect the wiring loom at the rear doors?
Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers 👍
Hi mate thanks for your feedback. If you search for Ford Transit loom guard you should be able to find them. Have a good shop around to get a decent price 👍🏻
Mine has an alarm system that goes off if you glance near it.
When it rains especially.
Thank you
Really helpful video thank you
Thank you for your feedback 👍🏻
There's a little something called auto jigglers, and anyone who is halfway good at using them can get into any vehicle with a keyhole. Luckily, there's about 5 people in the world who are actually good at it lol
They are good and will let you gain access but would not be able to start the engine .
Thank you
Great information
Thank You for your feedback
Just buy a Transit with starting problems, they are readily available 🤣
Great video
Thank you for your feedback 👍🏻
How about getting side glass that is laminated like the windshield?
Thanks mate now I no how to Nick a transit 👍
Great vid how can I steal the new shape transits 2014+
great video
I just got my transit stolen stolen it was the newer shape 2014 transit trend, 10k of electricians tools and stock in the back.
can you do a video which considers this vehicle as now i am looking for a new van i still would like the same van due to the lower cost and features of the transit but i want to make it secure i cannot afford this again
Thanks if you can
how funny to just put a dummy one or reroute the cables so its in the connector is in the same place.
now get a power supply that put out some really high voltage preferably AC current :D
it will probably fry the living hell out of the thieves electronics.
Hahaha brilliant idea !!
I want to do this to my van. Any idea how I do it?
Yes swap pin 16 with pin 8 that will do the trick but be sure to remember to swap it back if you send in for repair etc 😀
Or pins 16 and 4 which swaps pos and neg will either fry their device or blow a fuse either way the van isn't going anywhere
I was wondering if it is possible to get someone to alter your small van car size van with cameras on the back aiming out and in front and in sides to protect your self against rouge police and a camera aiming at your speed so you always have evidence of all things in your car or van
Thanks for the vid👍but don't the thieves need the correct tibbe key code which they get from picking the outside lock which then allows them to insert the new ignition key then program it? Just trying to get my head around how they do it🙄👍
They usually just brake the locks off
If Freddie Foreman had a love child lol
Does this work on 13 plate I’ve locked my electric thob inside the van and my normal key won’t unlock the doors
My younger brothers 2018 transit went straight off his driveway. 12k+ tools gone. Don't know where the van went. All the police are willing to do is give a crime reference number.
ghostmanromeo uk it’s happening all the time mate
I don't think alot of people realise how quick the mk7 can be stollen. Tibbbe key for door then that will fit the ignition , quick hook up to the OBD with a hand held computer and of they go 😡
What's the can opener trick to open the sliding side door?
Quick question.. are the fixes the same to the 2013 shape
Thank you for the info. I have a Promaster. Any suggestions specific to the Promaster/Ducato? Thank you again in advance.
is the mk8 transit susceptible to this method of rear loom cutting ?
To open the door it's enough to have a screwdriver and a pair of clippers. All you have to do it's to spin the key locker from the door ...first they will break that rubber and spin that thing where the key goes inside the door.
This is a great video, I recently bought a MK7 transit to convert into a campervan and this solution seems like a very cost efftective option in addition to the wheel and pedal lock. However, having just removed my OBD and installed crimp connections I started my ignition and recieved an Engine Malfunction notifcation. This happened twice but, then stopped, could I have made a mistake? I know that I haven't mixed the wires up but, unlike your example I have at least 4 pairs of wires which connect into the same pin on the OBD, I paired these off into the bullet connectors rather than have lots of dangling wires. Would very much appreciate your thoughts, thanks in advance.
Should not make any difference mate could just be coincidence as long as the wires are kept separate and if there is any joining wires they would stay joined, other than that should be fine. 👍🏻 hope that helps.
Thank you for your feedback much appreciated
Can you speak about protecting a ram promaster from being stolen?
Buy a ford master key online then buy a electric key programmer to plug in the car .
Can they not come bk with a dlc conector and plug that in and still nick it🤔
I believe that if thieves have enough time and determination they would steel almost anything all depends on risk verses reward 😉 don't keep gold blocks in your van for instance
Thank you
Or you can just take the fuse out cutting the wires like that is o tt
Using a dummy OBD2 connector just tie half of the connectors to B+ and the other half to B- of the battery through a 25 amp fuse direct to the battery, no need for high voltage stuff. 25 amps of DC to their interface box will really fu¢|< it up and will fry the electronics in it. You can search for the pinouts with Google, make sure to reverse polarity between power and ground of the connector since the original OBD2 connector can supply power to a lot of the interface boxes. Having 12 volts at the data lines will also put the icing on the cake since data lines run most often at 5 volts.
Excellent like it. Would definitely fry anything connected. Great idea 🤣😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Audio is way too quiet, should compress and normalize audio to make it louder.
Noted thank you for your observation we are in early days of you tube and learning to make better videos.
as time goes on we will improve and with you guys giving us pointers like this one we can only improve thank you.
My 08 van was Stolen and then found my key wont start the van anymore any ideas bud? Pucka vid
You probably will have to have your key re programmed
Clearly manufacturers are wanting with their focus to make their vehicles secure, how about totally!!... surely a matter of marketing pride/opportunity..??
This guy is related to pottor payper
Transits fall apart with rust, surprising anyone would steal them there a pile of shite,I know I scrapped mine because of rust
My 5yr old Rotty sleeps in my van......no probs so far.
Thrive wiil surley have the connector hah
You fix this by not buying a Ford.
Simple thing you can do,buy a Mercedes sprinter instead,
