  • I had the unfortunate pleasure of a van break in on Thursday down at Premier Inn hotel Terminal 5 Heathrow.
    Parked over night with the van left empty thankfully! Came back to this.
    Still no CCTV or comms from the hotel.
    What do you think should be done? Let me know!
    Have you suffered a vehicle/tool theft? Let me know in the comments and check out the other content on my Social media. Most notably the comments on this TikTok

    Sorry to hear this, I'm a carpenter and this has happened 4 times in 20 years,, I'm completely in agreement with you on the deadlocks, or any visible security measures, on my relay I've locked the back doors inside and run a ratchets trap from the side door to the cab, also I've removed the little metal bar inside the lock from the back door keylock and drivers door so when they recently tried the screwdriver through the door trick, didn't work, I actually stay in the van when I'm working away 🤣 with a loaded nailer

    I had the same happen years ago with an SUV. I left an empty box in the back which could be seen into, but the mongrels broke in anyway. They got a GPS which was in a locked glove box, and the sad but funny part was they took a heavy small box which was under a blanket - it was an urn with my dad's ashes...

    Sorry that happened, had no idea the crime was that bad there, just goes to show what I know, Best thing I can tell you is dead locks and reinforced steel, and if you have to chain your tools to the floor or wall, Good luck and best wishes.

    Sorry to hear that Mark, am gutted for you what adds to the frustration is you are pretty much on your own although you have been more magnanamous about the police than I would be. Also totally agree with your showing what's gone on can't believe there are naive people thinking you are telling thieves something they don't know already, keep rolling with the punches fella👍👍

    I do believe that if you mainly leave your van empty like you say then order the van with windows. Even thieves will look inside before breaking in, no tools inside means no break in.

    Get abit of sheet steel riveted over the hole save the new door for when the van goes back to the lease company in case it happens again

    I'm sorry to hear about this.
    I was going to say about leaving it fully unlocked (Or at least the rear doors) given that you are emptying it but you already mentioned it and especially with it being on lease. With modern immobilisers, I do wonder if there's less risk of full vehicle theft than of the damage to the door. With any luck they might even close the door once they are done to keep the rain out!

      I had a car once that I couldn't lock the back door, they still broke a window to get in and rifle through my glovebox, leaving the worthless contents all over the floor.

    Sorry to hear about this Mark, it makes my blood boil hearing about these scum bags 😡
    The only way this can be combatted or greatly reduced is if we adopt the punishment that Saudi Arabia have for thieves and chop their hands off ! Sadly this will never happen though in this country, just makes me sick that these gangs are constantly getting away with it, and us hard working tradespeople are victims 😡🤬

    Scary Halloween video. Would be good to see move vids on how to prevent thieves getting away with our tools. The amount of skill it takes to steal stuff would be better if they put that NRG into an honest day's work.

    • @SoloBench
      @SoloBench 5 місяців тому

      Why? They would get far less money. And that's all this system cares about

    You were lucky Mark, never mind the power tools they could have got away with that pink pram !
    Seriously though, it makes you sick to the stomach regardless of what they get, always worth that extra 15 minutes at night to get the tools indoors

    Vehicle design will always be a problem, thicker steel means higher vehicle cost, lower fuel efficiency, lower payload etc. and not everyone wants/needs an extra level of security so it's down to you to upgrade it to your needs. Roof racks provide a decent level of protection against cutting through the roof (as long as the roof rack is secured well).

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Рік тому

      I don't disagree in terms of the entire vehicle. But a few additional measures around locks from manufacturers is essential. So much so they are all doing it on next gen vehicles so I am told since sharing this video.
      But like I said in the video the criminals just make more mess or start waiting for us to snatch the keys.
      Such a shame but the way of the world.
      If you are serious about reducing fuel consumption check out our videos on running the vans without racking and roof racks. Your welcome

    Get a magnet strip saying Amazon delivery all parcels emptied every shift , and once you go and do your job , take that sticker off or leave as it is , other tip to you , never put everything on a van roof , pipe storage , ladders you name it , even roof rack , straight away indicating for a thief’s it’s a tradesman van .

    • @SoloBench
      @SoloBench 5 місяців тому

      There's no point putting stuff like "all parcels emptied" or "no tools kept in vehicle"... it just means the opposite. Just put "delivery in progress" stickers on and that's it

    Often wondered why vans with no tools left overnight don't have a window and a night light to clearly indicate there is nothing of value, even the hardest of criminal minds will quickly work out its not worth it. The penalties are no where near hard enough, its not just tools to be sold on for a few quid, someone's livelihood their dependents and the greater society, which the criminals are all to ready to swallow up are all connected, shameful.

    My van got done 1 December lost all tools, I think police and government could do something they just not too bothered. There are car boot sale, flee markets. If you see man selling only power tools van full of that stuff just put up big fines to organisers. Point is if you choke off point of sale than there is no incentive to go around stealing. I think.

  • @johnb.9190
    @johnb.9190 Рік тому +4

    Hi Mark,the problem is not the thieves but the trade scum that buys the tools,if there is no market there is no reason to steal,I worked with an old spark in the mid eighties the had "stolen from Willie Stone " on all of his tools,stopped the local tool theft where he worked.

    It’s not like deadlocks do anything anymore ether know a plumber who had 2-3 vans up on a job away from normal area so they where sleeping in hotels
    They take a drill 2-4mm drill straight into the centre of the deadlock so you wouldn’t even notice drill into the dead locks and they are into the van
    Completely cleared the 3 vans out in about 10-20mins
    Hotel security came out at one point and they pulled out a baseball bat and told him he better go back inside
    By the time the police got their they were gone with all the tools and materials for the job
    And if they didn’t get seen by security you wouldn’t even know until you got to the job

    As I think I posted to you one good thing is you took all the tools out but it's the damage them getting in and they don't know that until they opened up your van. whether having a van with a window so they can see there are no tools? Maybe I'm naive but what happens to all these stolen tools? as I have never been offered cheap tools If I had been offered some drills and a tester with Mark the sparky Allison with a postcode or phone number I would know that they are stolen. Maybe a tracker like Nick Bundy had but you still have the problem of a hole in the van and a day off work sorting it out.

    Done all you can. Note all the heavy goods trucks with the back doors wide open while they have to stop for tacho rest, it's done to save having a knife put to the face because todays criminals are without any empathy or scruples. The worst thing about traders van theft is the £300 pound drill being swapped for the value of a bag of smack. At least we know their lives aren't great so they get theirs in some way.
