- Painstaking determination pays off as I manage to get the electrical system working on the Chieftain. Now with the electronic gears functioning its almost time to fit the Leyland L60 Engine.

who doesn't love the concrete chieftan
It’s a good day when I can start the day with a video from your fine selves
Just shows the spread of this bunch of lunatics audience, for me a Hewes video is a good end to the day. Now bed time.
Your determination is endless Joe. I understand it's your money tied up in the Chieftain, but you've gone much further than most . 👍👏😃
I could watch you blokes sweep the workshop floor!
Riveting.
I'm coming to appreciate how through sheer willpower you will make the cement Chieftain a runner.
❤ Nice find with that lead. Great video as always. The noise damping Seb is a great addition!
Thanks for the video guys 👍
If I win the lottery next week I will pay for you to concrete the whole yard. Everybody needs a Seb in their life. All the best Mick.
It never ceases to amaze me what a dedicated team of mechanics/engineers can accomplish... well done! Impressive!
Absolutely amazing persistence as always. So, all it needs is for you to replace EVERYTHING with undrowned NOS parts, and it'll be a beauty.
Once again I am in awe at your can do positive attitude. And you can't beat having plenty of spares. Time for bacon buttie and tea.
How much joy did you detect on seeing that gear change dial register - Hardly surprising, the magic of editing seems like he'd been at it 2 minutes - but in reality..... Good job guys
I’m still buzzing
Can’t beat a good diesel engine sound
I can't hear that well on a good day, too much noise from driving tanks, firing main guns and driving trucks for 45 years, subtitles are wonderful. The old girl has come a long way thanks to you fellas, well done.
Eh?
@@johnnunn8688 😄
@@safn1949 I’m the same, RAF aircraft noise. I SAID, RAF AIRCRAFT NOISE, YA DEAF GET!
Got to say, seeing the vehicles actually getting completed, repaired, moved, sold and new ones coming in, feels refreshing not like the car shows of Discovery Channel (2008-2014) or some other UA-camr's, where they fix one vehicle per season or just jump the restorations completely or never finish it, and it just sits there.
Another excellent days work supervised by Ted, Sooper Smashin' can't beat a bit o' bully!
I was watching the last video, thought I’d heard drums and thought it was just me being looney and decided against mentioning it. My sanity has prevailed.
I love how you guys are so quick on these machines up and running. Most of these guys take weeks where you guys do it in a day or two . Good stuff
Life is too short to
I can’t wait to see her run ❤
6:45. A joyous moment. Why should we persist with the hopeless folks? Because anything is possible. Joe, you're an inspiration.
Takes me back DECADES, when i was put to work on duff Chiefies at Bovington. Although I was 'only' a Tels Tech REME, there was always a need for a Vehicle Electrician or CET (Control Equipment Technician) down the workshop. I can remember working upside down working on the RBJ (Rotary Base Junction - supplying eletrical connections from turret to hull) trying to get something working. No I wasn't trained to do stuff like that, but I was seen by the Vehicke Mechs as a 'Sparky' rather than a 'Wobbly' - and I could read EMERS!
Gearbox: As long as the connectors are the same at each end, the wiring doesn't care, obviously. It's fun to see this come back to life. Cleaning it up after that much water. Yipes.
Good timing Mr Hewes I was gonna turn utube off. Noww I'll make me cuppa n relax an hava good chuckle.. Good stuff. The Ol' Fella Downunda Greg.
Wiring....Ugg. I would have had a plethora of choice words changing those wires in such a cramped space. Great job. Can't wait for the next one for the engine install. Be careful around all the heavy equipment.
Best start to the day
Loving the bullseye 🎯 tune 👌💚💛❤️
Today’s advert was a lovely bubble bee on a flower with some cool base playing in the background.
Doing great!🎉❤
I can't help feeling it's like watching a neglected, abused animal responding to some TLC. Hewes style. It wants to run again and it knows it's in good hands. Fascinating to watch. Humbling when shown what can be achieved with the power of positivity (and a good jump pack), some useful spares and a bloody minded determination to not be beaten. Crack on.
I too enjoy, waking up and getting a cup of coffee, an English muffint, sitting down, turning on UA-cam, and seeing there is a new video from Mr. Hewes. The only thing that is missing this morning is a glass of orange juice.
proper work channel proper humans still working brings back fond times 50 yrs a blacksmith feels my hert with joy thanks
Cracking vid, the sheer joy in Joes voice when that gearbox worked was great to hear!
Who’s in the container playing the drums 🥁
Note to self, aluminium electrical connectors submerged for a period of time in non sealed connectors corrode badly and fail to operate as designed after they corrode.
Having said all that, with spares at a premium and not as common as they were 50 odd years back you're doing a bang up job mate.
Joke of the day: Why do the British drink 'warm' beer? Because Lucas electrical makes all the fridges!
I dont know why, but your videos are the most addictive ones that pop up in my timeline!!! To the extent of finding myself measuring out my small garden and thinking, I could fit a foden and a chieftain in there... lmao... ;-)
Thanks for the entertainment Mr Hewes!
I love it when all things start to go well and problems start resolving. Best part of restoration makes up for all the frustrations.
I can but imagine the smile of satisfaction you must have had when that lead turned out to work on the gear selector.
Ahhhhhh. Smug mode 🤗
Very impressive, Joe. Your tenacity and ingenuity is amazing. Thanks for the update.
I love it. "I'm not taking any chances" but you're working on a flooded tank that was filled with concrete. Still, we all hugely appreciate the time, dedication and skill you all show and share.
Further, without that door sound deadening we wouldn't have also thought we heard the thing dropping with the oil. Do report back!
I should be doing my own jobs not watch this but I find it interesting and relaxing 😂🎉 thanks Best wishes
Well done Joe. Your doggedness to fix these things never ceases to amaze me.
Glorious
Great job
soo happy you fixt the gears.
We need more epic drums
Another great video to watch over my morning coffee here in Australia. Love waking up to another post. Looking forward to seeing this tank up and running! Thanks guys.👍😎🇦🇺 You are brilliant at thinking outside the box when it comes to fixing stuff, just like me. You will be at 200 thousand subscribers very soon. Well done. Need more channels like yours. Really down to earth.
Great result even though it took a few rounds from the parts cannon!
Amazing how you bring a piece of yard art back to life again 👌
Good morning Mr H. Another interesting video thank you
Wonderful viewing Joe, thank you for the genuine excitement when things work for you. You just love these beasts don't you, so do we!!
Nice to see Seb on roller shutter door duty.
I take it Ted pulled rank!? 😂🐶
Good to see you have found Seb a useful job.
If you get that chieftain up , running with turret moving and painted up you lot truly are magicians . Hope you do 🤞🍀
It's difficult watching your videos till the end, because I know I'll get that bloody tune stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
🤣🤣
"This is our new machine that goes BING."
Cool hat!
“After replacing every electrical component and wiring harness in the tank… we got the gearbox indicator to work”. I feel your pain. At least you had spares.
That’s how I mechanic though. I have a noise, Let’s throw parts at it till it’s gone. At least I don’t pay for my labour.
Hell yeah, Today was worth waking up for.. Tomorrow tho, Nots so lucky
Don't worry about the temp gauge, if it's the same as the B60 / B80 then they go full deflection on open circuit so once you connect it to the sender it should resume normal service if the sender works. A wiring short circuit would give zero temp not max.
Good point! It be interesting to see if it works with engine in
It's time for a victory dance after the gear box changes.
It was cool to hear your excitement when the gears worked.
I understand completely that feeling. 😊
I'm so Happy you got the gear selector working lots of hard work you rock love the music 😊😅😢😂🎉
That is definition persistence! Each obstetrical overcome in the pursuit of victory!
Ha, really? that Chieftain must be a 45 ton anchor that you were going to pull , it was very "Optimistic" still had a good laugh. great videos.. Thanks
You guys are amazing! The things you accomplish bringing these tanks back to life are truly impressive! Where do you get all the spare parts! Hope you dont run out! Lol.
First class content!
Here in the Netherlands we have steel and reinforced concrete 'tiles' called Stelcon, 2x2 meter 14 cm thick with lifting points to make temporary (or permanent) floors and roads for heavy equipment. Not sure you have that in the UK but it might be an idea to pave around your workshop so you cut down on the inevitable mudfest. Just an idea, love the video's!
It's an absolute pleasure watching these.
Joe after watching quiet a few of videos I can only say you have something that money can’t buy and that is the great bunch guys and the young lady that getting stuck in with you through all the grease and grime and the Banter all round and I can see a lot of people would give there all for what you. Joe All The Best to You And Your Team.
Engine in, fired up, you will be doing laps of the farm before you know it.
What a legend the pom pom hat. awesome proper British Englishmen. Just like us in nz awesome ,down to earth. I live for your show.
Thank you for sharing your work.
Take away, a Tank makes a bad U- Boat.
Dear Joe,
How amazing that the gearbox of the Chieftain seems to work properly so I can’t wait to see the engine back inside and to see her running and driving.
I look forward to your next vlog and send you love from the Netherlands
Fantastic video - thankyou
Great video again. I always look forward to the next one 👍👏👏
Who knew we had drive by wire back in the 60's!
Awesome as always😊
Nice to see that gear selector finally move....good job!
Nicely figured out Joe👍. You shall not be beaten.
Speaking of a drumroll, the landscape around your farm looks exactly like in a special about a studio I once saw, it was in the middle of the countryside just like your place. Can’t remember the name of the studio or the groups that recorded there unfortunately, the only thing I can remember is that the neighbours complained about the noise in the middle of the night……😊
You just did two of the worst jobs I hated doing on the Chieftain - the dash and controller - and did them in pretty foul conditions! Kudos to you 👍
Just amazing…… phenomenal….!!!😎🦾🍻
i am MOST impressed at how you guyz are endless with ingenuity
It is magnificent
Great to watch
Much better than any ‘movie’
THANKS‼️
Keep going🥂
